Avocato is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Little Cato) of Final Space. He is a former Ventrexian general and former second-in-command of the Lord Commander. He is skillful, dangerous, and not always trustworthy.

Biography Pre-series

Avocato was once the greatest soldier in Ventrexia, fighting countless battles despite hating war. During a skirmish, he and his team were saved by the Lord Commander, who offered Avocato a new purpose - to eliminate death from the universe.

As the Lord Commander's second-in-command, Avocato followed his orders without question. One of his first missions was to assassinate the Ventrexian king and queen. After shooting down their ship, Avocato found their infant son amidst the debris and adopted him, naming him Little Cato.

Avocato expanded the Lord Commander's empire by conquering planets and killing on his orders. But when the Lord Commander demanded his generals sacrifice their firstborn children, Avocato refused. Stripped of his rank, Avocato's son was taken hostage by the Lord Commander to force Avocato's obedience.

Season 1

In the first season, Avocato first appears tracking Mooncake with other bounty hunters. Gary captures Avocato, and they initially clash but later form a bond over a card game. Together, they embark on a mission to Tera Con Prime to find Avocato's son, Little Cato, who is being held captive by the Lord Commander.

On Tera Con Prime, Avocato and Gary face the bounty hunter Terk, who reveals Little Cato's location. However, this information turns out to be a trap set by the Lord Commander. Gary saves Avocato but loses an arm in the process. Grateful, Avocato joins the Team Squad, aided by the new member Quinn Ergon.

The Squad works together to eliminate the corrupt Infinity Guard soldiers at Outpost - 0439, where Avocato discovers his son is being held on the prison colony Zetakron Alpha. Despite the high likelihood of another trap, Avocato and Gary set out to rescue Little Cato.

Their mission is successful, but the Lord Commander has planted an explosive device on Little Cato's back. Avocato sacrifices himself to save the others from the blast, fulfilling a prophecy of his demise. His lifeless body falls back to Zetakron Alpha as he asks Gary to take care of Little Cato.

Throughout the season, Avocato's loyalty, bravery, and complex relationships with the other characters are highlighted, culminating in his tragic but impactful death.

Season 2

In Season 2, Avocato's presence is marked by a series of emotional and action-packed events. In "The Other Side," a time-trapped Little Cato finds comfort in imaginary conversations with a hologram of his deceased father, Avocato.

In "The Remembered," time travel allows Little Cato to warn his past self about his impending death at the hands of the Lord Commander. Although the warning is successful, it doesn't change the timeline, and Little Cato must leave his father behind.

Time Swap Sammy helps resurrect Avocato by sending the Crimson Light back to the moment of his death. In exchange, Gary stays on Zetakron Alpha for several months until the Team Squad can reunite. Avocato recovers but suffers from amnesia.

In "The Closer You Get," Avocato regains his memories but is soon possessed by the evil entity Invictus. Controlled by Invictus, Avocato angrily disowns Little Cato before disappearing.

Avocato returns in "The Sixth Key," seeking vengeance against Gary for "stealing" his son. Little Cato is forced to destroy Avocato's ship to protect his friends. However, Avocato, presumably empowered by Invictus, reaches Inner Space and attacks the Crimson Light crew. It takes Ash Graven's abilities and Nightfall's inspiration to finally free Avocato from Invictus' control.

Reunited with his son and Gary, Avocato is understandably confused about the events he missed. He helps the crew escape Inner Space and follows Bolo into Final Space to rescue Quinn, only to be confronted once again by Invictus.

Throughout Season 2, Avocato's journey is filled with emotional turmoil, supernatural possession, and ultimately, redemption, as he fights to protect his loved ones from the forces of evil.

Season 3

In "...And Into The Fire," Avocato and the Team Squad escape Invictus in the Crimson Light, but sustain damage and are forced to abandon the ship. Stranded on a deserted planet, they encounter Zombie Garys. Avocato tries to blow them up with the escape pod, but it only attracts a Titan controlled by Invictus. The planet splits during a fight between Bolo and the Titan, separating the team into groups. Avocato, Little Cato, Ash, Fox, and Sheryl find shelter in a cave with an alien in a robotic suit named Stan. They learn that Final Space is toxic and eventually help end Stan's suffering.

In "The Hidden Light," the group, now separated from the others, is abducted by the Arachnitects, who believe they are sent by Invictus. When the Arachnitects dispel this notion, they are attacked by the Lord Commander. The Lord Commander captures the group and threatens to harm Little Cato if Avocato doesn't reveal Mooncake's location.

In "The Ventrexian," the Lord Commander continues to interrogate the group, hanging them upside down. He chokes Little Cato in an attempt to get Avocato to talk, but ultimately releases them once satisfied that they don't know Mooncake's whereabouts. The group is then taken to Invictus' lair.

Throughout these episodes, Avocato's loyalty to his son and team, as well as the revelation of his past, contribute to the growing tension and complexity of the Final Space storyline.

Avocato, a Ventrexian or feline alien, sports distinctive features that make him instantly recognizable. His Forest Ocean (dark teal) fur is sleek and smooth, with white markings gracing his face. His nose stands out with its unique shape – an upside-down, triangular pink protuberance. Large, yellow eyes with rouged edges and tiny black pupils pierce through any gaze, while his tail sways in a rhythmic, jagged manner.

In combat, Avocato dresses to impress. He wears boots that provide stability in the face of adversity. A grey belt with a silver buckle encircles his waist, drawing the eye to a defined midsection. Greenish leggings cover his legs, reinforcing his lower body. A tan vest hugs his torso, offering protection without compromising mobility. Shoulder and knee pads add an extra layer of defense to Avocato's arsenal.

A brown utility sash drapes across his chest, promising to house an assortment of useful gadgets and weaponry. Arm bracers not only add to his overall intimidating appearance but also offer support and protection to his forearms in battle. His helmet, worn when the situation calls for it, hides his features, giving Avocato an air of mystery.

Avocato's personality balances toughness with intelligence. He can be cold and stoic, but there's a warm side to him, particularly when he's around his son, Little Cato, and his friend, Gary. His actions reveal a cruel streak at times, such as when he watches Terk die without any real remorse, showing a casual annoyance instead.

However, Avocato is capable of compassion when it comes to those he trusts. Guilt consumes him because of the way he left Little Cato without a mother, driving him to make amends with his son. He doesn't expect forgiveness, but his determination to be there for Little Cato is evident. As a complex character, Avocato's attributes and emotions create a dynamic presence on screen.

Trivia Olan Rogers once playfully suggested Avocado's age to be 512 years old. Originally, Avocado was meant to permanently die in "Chapter 6." However, during the episode's broadcast, Olan regretted killing the character. To bring him back, Avocado was incorporated into Season 2, making a surprise return in "The Remembered." His entire character arc was carefully planned post-resurrection. In "Chapter 5," after returning to his normal size and attacking several Infinity Guardsmen, Avocado yells "I'm back, baby!" This line pays homage to Bender from Futurama, voiced by John DiMaggio, who also provides voice work for various miscellaneous characters in Final Space, including one of the Infinity Guards Avocado assaults, and Terk. On April 12, 2018, at 8 pm EST, TBS aired live footage of an elaborate memorial for Avocado. The tribute featured a large flame, an arrangement of candles, cards, photos, and other commemorative items. Avocado's name is a pun on the fruit "avocado." Interestingly, Coty Galloway, one of the show's creators, also owns a cat named Avocado. Avocado serves as a nod to The Cat, a character from the British science fiction comedy series Red Dwarf. Avocado exhibits many feline traits akin to real cats: Like a cat, Avocado can land on his feet with perfect balance. According to Gary, Avocado has a fondness for milk, a classic cat trait. Whenever slapped in the face, Avocado makes a distinctive "meow" sound, much like a real cat. He growls and hisses when provoked or angered, channeling the ferocity of a feline. Avocado's tail fluffs up whenever startled, displaying a natural cat instinct.

Anatomy and Structure Avocado's body structure resembles that of a cat, with notable humanoid features. He stands upright on two legs, with a roughly human-like torso and appendages. His spine is flexible, allowing him to contort and bend in ways that mimic feline agility. Avocado's head is round and cat-like, with pointed ears and a triangular, pink nose.

Fur and Coloration Avocado's fur is smooth and dark teal, reminiscent of an avocado fruit. White markings adorn his face, adding to his distinctive appearance. The coloration of his fur might serve a camouflage or temperature regulation purpose in his home environment.

Sensory Organs Avocado's eyes are large and yellow, with black pupils. This unique eye structure likely enhances his night vision and depth perception, giving him an advantage in low-light conditions. His ears are sensitive and mobile, allowing him to pick up on sounds from various directions. Avocado's whiskers are tactile sensors, providing him with additional information about his surroundings.

Movement and Agility Avocado's agility is unparalleled, thanks to his feline heritage. He can land on his feet from great heights and move with grace and precision. This agility is due to his flexible spine, strong leg muscles, and sharp claws, which provide traction and balance. His tail serves as a counterbalance, further aiding in his acrobatic movements.

Claws and Teeth Avocado possesses retractable claws, which he uses for climbing, hunting, and self-defense. His teeth are sharp and designed for tearing and shredding meat, a trait that reflects his predator nature.

Health and Longevity As mentioned in the trivia, Olan Rogers joked that Avocado is 512 years old. This suggests that Ventrexians have an extended lifespan compared to humans. Avocado's physiology might be more resilient to aging and disease, though this is not explicitly confirmed.

Emotional Expressions Avocado's facial features and body language are expressive, making it easy to read his emotions. He can convey happiness, anger, and fear through subtle changes in his brow, mouth, and ears. His tail also serves as an indicator of his emotional state, puffing up when startled or swishing back and forth when content.

Personality Traits Avocado exhibits a blend of toughness, intelligence, and emotional depth. On the surface, he appears cold and stoic, with a no-nonsense approach to his bounty hunting duties. However, beneath this exterior lies a warm and caring side, particularly when it comes to his relationship with his son, Little Cato. Avocado's personality is shaped by his past experiences, both positive and negative, which have molded him into the character we see in the present.

Defense Mechanisms Avocado employs various defense mechanisms to cope with his guilt and past mistakes. His initial cold demeanor serves as a protective barrier, keeping others at a distance while he grapples with his inner turmoil. When confronted with memories of his actions that led to Little Cato becoming an orphan, Avocado feels extreme guilt and tries to make amends, even if he doesn't expect forgiveness. These defense mechanisms help him navigate the emotional complexity of his relationships and responsibilities.

Attachment Style Avocado's attachment style with Little Cato is characterized by a strong desire for closeness and connection, tempered by his fear of rejection due to his past actions. He is highly attuned to Little Cato's needs and emotions, displaying a nurturing and protective side that contrasts with his tough exterior. Avocado's attachment style reflects his longing for redemption and the chance to be the father figure Little Cato deserves.

Motivations and Goals Avocado's primary motivations revolve around his quest for redemption and his desire to protect those he cares about, particularly Little Cato. His goals include making amends for his past mistakes, being a present and loving father, and ensuring Little Cato's safety and happiness. Avocado's actions are often driven by his need to prove his worth as a father and to atone for the pain he has caused.

Emotional Intelligence Despite his tough exterior, Avocado demonstrates a high degree of emotional intelligence. He is perceptive of others' emotions and can adapt his approach accordingly. For example, he recognizes the importance of Gary's kindness and bravery in his life and values the friendship they have built. Avocado's emotional intelligence allows him to form meaningful connections and navigate complex interpersonal situations.

Conflict Resolution Avocado's approach to conflict resolution varies depending on the situation. When dealing with threats or enemies, he can be ruthless and uncompromising, drawing on his skills as a bounty hunter. However, when facing conflicts within his personal relationships, Avocado tends to be more introspective and willing to engage in open communication. He understands the need for honesty and vulnerability to resolve emotional conflicts, as seen in his interactions with Little Cato and other close companions.

Growth and Development Throughout the series, Avocado undergoes significant psychological growth and development. His journey is marked by moments of self-reflection, where he confronts his past actions and strives to be a better person. Avocado's willingness to change and adapt, despite his tough exterior, showcases his psychological resilience and capacity for growth.
