Biography

Pre-Series

Avocato was once the most skilled and revered soldier on Ventrexia, fighting in countless battles despite his distaste for war. His life took a dramatic turn when he and his squad were ambushed and saved by the Lord Commander’s fleet, which wiped out the enemy in an instant. Reluctantly, Avocato joined forces with the Lord Commander, who promised a universe without death. Avocato's first task under this new alliance was to assassinate Ventrexia's king and queen, an order he followed through with, ultimately shooting down their escape vessel. Amid the wreckage, Avocato found their infant child, Little Cato, and made the decision to adopt him as his son.

Prior to the events of Final Space, Avocato served as the Lord Commander’s second-in-command, helping expand the Lord Commander's empire through conquest and destruction. At one point, Avocato encountered a version of Little Cato from the future, who warned him of his impending death at the hands of the Lord Commander, prompting Avocato to reassess his loyalty.

When the Lord Commander ordered all generals to kill their firstborn children, Avocato was the only one who refused. For his defiance, he was stripped of his rank, and his son, Little Cato, was taken hostage to force him into obedience.

Season 1

Avocato first appears as one of several bounty hunters tracking down Mooncake aboard the Galaxy One. While the other bounty hunters were dealt with when Gary Goodspeed ordered H.U.E. to lightfold the ship, Avocato remained, ultimately being captured. Initially hostile, Avocato bonds with Gary during a mission to Tera Con Prime to capture the bounty hunter Terk, learning from him the location of his son.

As it turns out, the location was a trap orchestrated by the Lord Commander, but Avocato escapes with Gary's help, despite Gary losing an arm. The two later return to the Galaxy One, and Gary vows to help free Little Cato.

Avocato then joins Team Squad, teaming up with Gary and Quinn Ergon to take down corrupt Infinity Guard soldiers opening a breach to Final Space. Avocato later discovers Little Cato is being held at Zetakron Alpha, a prison colony of the Lord Commander. He and Gary go there, eventually rescuing Little Cato. However, the mission ends tragically when Lord Commander places a bomb on Little Cato's back, forcing Avocato to sacrifice himself to protect the team. His last words to Gary are a plea to take care of Little Cato.

Season 2

In The Other Side, Little Cato imagines conversing with a hologram of his father while trapped for 60 years. In The Remembered, the Team Squad is sent three years back in time, where Little Cato warns his father about his death. Despite his efforts, the timeline remains unchanged. However, Gary and the Squad find a way to recover Avocato’s body, and after some time, he is resurrected but suffers from complete amnesia.

In The Closer You Get, Avocato regains his memories but is soon taken over by Invictus, after a struggle with Gary’s possessed body. Avocato becomes a puppet of Invictus and violently disowns Little Cato before disappearing into a puddle of black ooze.

Avocato reappears in The Sixth Key, pursuing the Crimson Light to exact vengeance on Gary for taking his son. In a dramatic confrontation, Little Cato is forced to kill his father’s ship, though Avocato survives and wreaks havoc on the crew. Invictus’s influence ultimately fades thanks to Ash Graven, who frees Avocato with a blast of energy. Avocato reunites with Gary and Little Cato, though his confusion regarding everything he’s missed since his death is evident.

Season 3

In ...And Into the Fire, Avocato joins the Team Squad as they fight off Invictus, leading them to a deserted planet after a failed escape. They encounter a massive alien named Stan, and after a tense moment of survival, Avocato and the team find themselves face-to-face with an army of Zombie Garys. Avocato is last seen watching Little Cato express his love for him before a dire confrontation.

In The Hidden Light, Avocato and his team face abduction by the Arachnitects, who initially mistake them for agents of Invictus. Avocato's past is revealed when the Lord Commander uses his psychic powers to force him to recount his betrayal of Ventrexia, leading to a heart-wrenching recollection of his tragic past.

Appearance Avocato in Full Armor Avocato Wearing His Helmet

Avocato is a strikingly formidable Ventrexian, a species of highly intelligent and battle-hardened alien cats. His smooth, Forest Ocean (dark teal) fur is adorned with unique white facial markings, and his crooked, upside-down triangular pink nose adds an unmistakable touch to his fierce appearance. His large, rouged yellow eyes, with small black pupils, glimmer with intensity, and his jagged tail flicks with irritation or excitement.

He wears practical yet rugged combat gear—boots, a grey belt with a silver buckle, greenish leggings, and a tan vest. For extra protection, he has shoulder and knee pads, a brown utility sash, and arm bracers that signify both his military history and his rough-and-tumble nature.

Personality Avocato is a serious and calculating bounty hunter, driven by duty and a deep-seated sense of honor. His tough exterior may make him appear cold and aloof, yet beneath his stoic demeanor lies a vulnerable side that emerges around those he holds dear—most notably, his son. While he may act indifferent or even cruel at times, his actions are often a result of deep emotional turmoil, particularly regarding his troubled past and the sacrifices he's made.

A survivor of immense personal loss, Avocato struggles with feelings of guilt, especially for turning Little Cato into an orphan. Despite his grim outlook on life, he remains determined to atone for his past mistakes, often going to great lengths to protect his son, even if he doesn't expect forgiveness.

At his core, Avocato is a fiercely loyal individual who, despite his cynical nature, can display moments of warmth and tenderness with those who earn his trust. His complex nature—cynical yet capable of genuine affection—makes him one of the most layered and intriguing characters in the galaxy.

Relationships

Gary Goodspeed - Best Friend Avocato’s unlikely but deeply meaningful friendship with Gary begins under unconventional circumstances. Initially, he views Gary as a naive and reckless fool, a perception that changes after numerous trials and tribulations. Their bond solidifies when Avocato witnesses Gary's bravery and unwavering loyalty, even when faced with life-threatening dangers. Through Gary’s influence, Avocato learns to embrace more than just duty, but the value of friendship, trust, and sacrifice.

In their darkest moments, Avocato knows Gary is the one person who will always stand by him—especially when it comes to protecting his son. Despite their differences, Gary helps Avocato evolve, and the two share a powerful and enduring bond.

Mooncake - Friend Though initially seeking to capture Mooncake for the Lord Commander, Avocato’s relationship with the small, adorable planet-destroying weapon grows into one of mutual respect and trust. Avocato warms to Mooncake, recognizing him as more than just a tool in the larger conflict but as a friend in his own right. Their camaraderie, especially during the trials they face together, speaks to the unusual but heartfelt nature of their connection.

Quinn Ergon - Friend While Quinn and Avocato’s relationship begins with frequent clashes, the two eventually grow to respect each other’s combat prowess. Over time, their rivalry cools, and they form a strong mutual respect for one another. Though their relationship is often marked by a tough exterior, they find common ground in their shared strength and sense of purpose.

Little Cato - Adopted Son The heart of Avocato’s motivations revolves around his adopted son, Little Cato. Their relationship is fraught with tragedy, guilt, and a desperate desire for redemption. Avocato first finds Little Cato in the wreckage of his parents' ship, taking him in as his own. The bond between father and son becomes even more complex when Avocato is forced to make painful sacrifices, including the decision to disobey the Lord Commander to save Little Cato.

The devastating loss of his son pushes Avocato to the edge, but even in the face of his own death, he is resolute in his love for Little Cato. Despite his brutal past, Avocato finds purpose in being a father, a role he values above all else. His sacrifices—and the emotional scars left in their wake—define his character, as he constantly strives to make things right with Little Cato.

KVN - Friend Avocato shares a pragmatic yet amicable relationship with KVN. While Avocato's patience wears thin at times, particularly with KVN’s quirks, he respects the robot’s contributions and views him as a reliable ally. Though their friendship is somewhat underexplored, the mutual respect between them speaks volumes in the tense situations they often face together.

H.U.E. - Friend Avocato interacts with H.U.E. in a more cooperative, straightforward manner. Though their connection is less emotionally driven than others, Avocato appreciates the robot's helpfulness and often turns to him for technical assistance. The duo shares a bond built on mutual need and respect.

Ash Graven - Former Friend; Enemy What begins as a friendship quickly deteriorates when Avocato’s dark past is exposed. Ash, once an ally, becomes a significant antagonist in Avocato’s life, especially after the revelation that he was responsible for the deaths of Little Cato’s parents. The fallout from this betrayal causes irreparable damage to their relationship, turning Ash into a staunch enemy. However, in the chaos of their shared mission, Avocato’s struggle to reconcile his actions and his desire to protect his son drives much of their tense interactions.

Fox - Friend Though their initial interactions are rocky, Avocato and Fox grow to understand each other better over time. Their relationship develops from mistrust to camaraderie, as both characters demonstrate their loyalty to one another and their shared goal of surviving the chaos around them.

Sheryl Goodspeed - Frenemy Avocato’s relationship with Sheryl is a constant back-and-forth of respect and frustration. Sheryl’s unorthodox methods often put her at odds with Avocato’s more cautious approach, but they share a mutual understanding when it comes to their shared experiences and goals. Despite their differences, Avocato relies on Sheryl's unpredictable ingenuity when the stakes are high.
