Aegon plays a central role in the civil war known as the "Dance of the Dragons," which is a Targaryen succession conflict over the Iron Throne. His claim to the throne is backed by his mother and powerful political factions, despite his older half-sister, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, being named as the heir by their father. Aegon II's coronation, orchestrated by his supporters, sparks the violent conflict between the Greens (Aegon's faction) and the Blacks (Rhaenyra's supporters). The show depicts him as a complex character, grappling with the burden of kingship and the family dynamics that fuel the war. His rivalry with Rhaenyra and the tragic consequences of the civil war shape much of the show's narrative.]
