Twisted Fate is an infamous cardsharp and swindler who has gambled and charmed his way across much of the known world, earning the enmity and admiration of the rich and foolish alike. He rarely takes things seriously, greeting each day with a mocking smile and an insouciant swagger. In every possible way, Twisted Fate always has an ace up his sleeve.
Real name: Tobias Felix Alias(es): The Card Master Species: Human (Magical) Age: 36-41 years old Place of origin: Serpentine River, The Jungle (Ixtal) Current residence: Unknown (No Fixed Abode)
Tobias Felix is born among the nomadic river folk of the Serpentine Delta, a boy raised on the slow rhythm of the current and the quiet understanding that his people were never truly welcome. The river barques brought exotic wares and vibrant culture to the settlements they passed, but the locals rarely offered more than wary tolerance in return. While the elders of his clan accepted this with resigned shrugs, Tobias bristled beneath the surface, unable to ignore the constant sting of being treated as an outsider.
He finds escape and purpose in the gambling tents, where games of luck and wit—Mortwheel, Stabberscotch, Krakenhand—become more than idle distractions. From his grandfather, he learns to read omens in the shuffle of cards; from his aunt, he studies the art of reading people. By the time he’s grown into a sharp-eyed young man, Tobias handles a deck like an extension of himself. He develops a reputation in every hall he visits, winning hand after hand with uncanny precision. Rumors of cheating swirl around him, but no one can prove how.
That skill, however, comes at a price. One night, a group of angry losers returns with clubs and liquor-fueled rage. They tear through the river camp looking for Tobias, injuring innocent people in their blind vengeance. Tobias runs. When dawn breaks, he returns only to find his people silent, wounded, and preparing to leave without him. His cowardice—his selfish instinct to flee—has cost him everything. Cast out from the only life he has known, Tobias is left with nothing but his grandfather’s weathered deck of cards.
He wanders for years, surviving on his wits and the same cards that now feel both curse and gift. He drifts from tavern to tavern, conning the arrogant and preying on the cruel, careful to lose just enough to avoid suspicion. One day, across a smoke-filled table, he meets Malcolm Graves—a rugged outlaw with a violent streak and a kindred hunger for coin. They form a partnership that thrives on mischief, swindles, and high-stakes heists up and down the northeastern coasts.
But as the years pass, Tobias begins to feel something deeper stirring in the cards. More than chance, more than skill. A calling. Though his people dismissed cartomancy as superstition, Tobias starts seeking out hidden truths in the deck, dabbling in real, dangerous magic. His pursuit of that power leads to disaster. A heist goes wrong. Graves is captured. Tobias and the others escape into the night.
Haunted by the failure, he sheds his birth name and adopts a new one: Twisted Fate. He becomes a name whispered in gambling halls and prison yards—a man impossible to hold, slipping through locked cells and guarded doors like a trick of the light. Wherever he goes, he leaves behind a smirk and a card, his legend growing with every impossible escape.
Years later, fate brings him back to Bilgewater, where he and Graves—now hardened and bitter—cross paths amid a bloody struggle for power. Forced to work together again, they survive the chaos of Gangplank’s downfall and find something resembling their old bond. The wounds between them haven’t fully healed, but Twisted Fate is glad to have his friend back at his side.
He still plays his games, still chases the thrill, but the stakes are higher now. Whether in the dens of Zaun or the parlors of Piltover, Twisted Fate gambles with destiny itself—guided by a power he barely understands and the ghosts of a past that never quite lets go.
Appearance: Twisted Fate is described as a tall, handsome male with tanned skin, trimmed beard and long dark hair. He's got sharp features and a strong jaw. He is usually depicted wearing a dandy wide-brimmed hat with golden ornaments along with a long black coat, a salmon vest, and a white button-up shirt with black tight pants and boots. Although he wears his hair loosely, in the Double-Double Cross cinematic he has shorter hair kept in a small ponytail and doesn’t wear his jacket.
Personality: Twisted Fate rarely takes things seriously, greeting each day with a mocking smile and an insouciant swagger. He’s prone to brag and has an overall smug yet charismatic personality. He's an opportunistic and hedonistic person that enjoys the thrill of danger and adventure. However, he does seem to have some roguish honor, since he tends to steal mostly from rich people and it is mentioned that he enjoyed conning arrogant and cruel people, as shown in his short story. Even though he usually appears laid-back and playful, he rarely shows genuine emotions and has tight control of his expressions.
Twisted Fate is analytical and a strategist, being the brains in his partnership with Graves, usually in charge of planning out heists. He’s also superstitious and theatrical, since it’s mentioned he enjoys putting on a show and communicates artistically at times.
He used to have a history of taking off when things started to get complicated but changed his ways after starting to work with Graves once again. Twisted Fate is also a stickler for appearance even having a “concerned face” he only uses when dealing with a really bad hand of cards or when he finds a new stain on his jacket. He’s very protective of his hat, to the point he checks the state of his hat first instead of his broken ribs after falling off a building. Twisted Fate is also plagued by the fact that he's a riverman that can't swim, drowning being his worst nightmare.
Magical: Tobias was born with natural magical ability, which might grow the more he trains and expands his knowledge about magic. Cartomancy: Twisted Fate uses magical cards for various effects. His cards are a family heirloom and are specifically described as old magic. Without him having one to focus on, he can't cast magic at all, though it's unclear if the cards are magic or if they are only magical for him. Yellow cards stun and deals some damage, since Bambolini got some heavy bruising when Twisted Fate hit him with a yellow card. Red cards are know to explode but the blue card ability is still unknown. Teleportation: Twisted Fate is capable of teleportation from one place to another while gaining complete visual access while he casts the spell. Divination: like other riverfolks, Twisted Fate is able to read cards and look for omens among them.
Abilities: Loaded Dice - After defeating an enemy, he rolls 'lucky' dice to see how much extra gold they may have on them. Wild Cards - Twisted Fate throws three cards that can slice through targets. Pick a Card - Twisted Fate chooses a magic card from his deck, and uses that for his next attack, causing bonus effects. Stacked Deck - Every 4 cards thrown, Twisted Fate's throw speed increases.
Ultimate Ability: Destiny - Twisted Fate predicts the fortunes of his foes and enabling the use of Gate which allows him to teleport to any enemy.
Runeterra (meaning magic earth) is a plane of existence composed of the physical realm: an oblate spheroid planet and the Spirit Realm. The currently known continents the planet comprises are Valoran, Shurima and the Camavoran Continent. It also boasts several large bodies of water, such as the currently known 18 Seas (like the Conqueror's Sea and the Guardian's Sea), and 2 Oceans with several archipelagos and islands around them (like Ionia, the Serpent Isles, and the Shadow Isles). The planet orbits around a G-type star while a natural satellite moon orbits around the planet. Runeterra's sun and moon also even mirrored equivalents in the spirit realm. Composed of both the material and spirit realms, Runeterra is all that separates the celestial powers of creation from the abyssal threat of all undoing. This is a magical world unlike any other--inhabited by peoples both fierce and wondrous.
Centuries ago, magical artifacts called the 'World Runes' were rediscovered. Over the following decades, knowledge of the Runes began to spread as more were unearthed. The world's brightest minds studied the ancient glyphs, attempting to determine the powers they possessed. Few could even begin to understand the importance of their origins, or the sheer power held within them. Some surmised that the Runes were integral to the creation of Runeterra itself. The first use of these mysterious artifacts proved catastrophic, as they reshaped the landscape of entire nations. Mistrust quickly grew as those who knew of the Runes imagined such “Makers' Might” being used as a weapon. Conflicts related to these magical artifacts began to occur, known as the Rune Wars.
Open warfare raged across Runeterra. The first horrors of the Rune Wars sparked fear and aggression among those who now realized the power at their command. Ryze and his master, Tyrus, had sought out to lock away every World Rune beyond the reach of man for the protection of Runeterra. Some complied with their pleas, others dismissed them due to their new found powers and influence. After an incident with Tyrus, Ryze later on continued his journey alone in gathering all Runic artifacts so as to prevent another Rune War from starting and possibly destroying the world.
Runeterra has a large number of sapient species. These sapient species can range from being able to use primitive tools to one's advantage to god-like feats like forging literal stars. Some sentient species are monster-like and aggressive while others less aggressive or tame. While most sentient species are animals, there are instances of plant based sentient species. Most known instances of non-sentient species are found with plants. As rich and diverse as Runeterra is, not all species are well documented. From the Shuriman Jungles to the magic wilds of the Ionian Archipelago, known only by names or by visuals, these numerous species are an enigma.
Ixtal is an ancient civilization rooted in elemental magic, predating even the Shuriman empire. Once part of the great western diaspora, it played a vital role in early magical history, possibly including the rise of the first Ascended. To survive the Void, the Darkin, and the Rune Wars, the Ixtali isolated themselves deep within the jungle, creating the hidden arcology-city of Ixaocan. Viewing the outside world as reckless and corrupted, they now guard their legacy fiercely, repelling intruders with powerful elemental magic.
Piltover, by contrast, is a thriving coastal city built on commerce, innovation, and hextech. Known as the cultural and technological heart of Valoran, it attracts inventors, artisans, and traders from across the world. Powered by wealthy merchant clans and a spirit of progress, Piltover constantly reinvents itself—turning ambition into art, wealth, and cutting-edge technology.

The cards shuffled in his hands, each a promise of fate. Twisted Fate grinned, knowing that his luck—like his cards—was never truly random.
A loud crash echoed through the alley as his opponent lunged. Twisted Fate flicked his wrist, sending a golden card soaring through the air. The sharp crack of the Wild Cards rang out, and the would-be assassin crumpled to the ground.
"Better luck next time," he muttered, turning away from the would be assassin.
"It's not gambling if you can't lose... "
"I reckon."
"Lady Luck is smilin'."
"Charmed, I'm sure"
"Just the luck of the draw."
