"And third, don't expect us to be friends, or to chat, or to do any of that insufferable 'bonding' Yao Chang seems so obsessed with."

Jia took a step closer, his gaze unwavering.

"We coexist. We don't interact. Understood?"

"Fine. One more," he declared, his voice a low threat. "This one. I'm putting a wish on this. If I win, you vanish from the living room for the rest of the week. You exist in your room or on the balcony. You do not speak to me."

The match was a blistering frenzy of combos and special moves, a game he had played since childhood. For a glorious moment, it seemed he had them. A triumphant smirk almost touched his lips. Almost.

"IT'S NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE!" he shrieked, his voice cracking with panic. He scrambled back on the couch, clutching the phone to his chest as if it were a stolen relic. "You-you idiot! You've got it all wrong! I was trying to take a selfie! The stupid app glitched and flipped the camera, and my thumb slipped! A complete and total accident!"

His face was on fire, a deep, humiliated crimson. His eyes, wide and frantic, darted towards the large window, then back to them. His grip on the phone tightened. It was clear from his defensive, cornered-animal posture that if they made a single move to take it, he would rather hurl the damning device through the glass and into the street below than face the evidence.

His tail, which had slipped out in his focused cooking, now stood rigid with anger.

He leaned in, peering through the peephole. His entire body went rigid. All the color drained from his face in an instant, leaving him pale as a ghost.

He stumbled back from the door, his hands flying to the locks. "No, no, no, not this... anything but this!" he hissed, his voice a frantic whisper. A cascade of long, dark blue hair fell around it's shoulders, framing a face with mischievous, familiar crimson eyes. Demon's body was drowning in an absurdly large blue sweatshirt that reached his mid-thighs, the sleeves swallowing hands completely. A pair of small, neat horns peeked out from hair.

Demon grinned, a wide, impish expression that didn't reach eyes, and stepped gracefully over the wreckage.

"Well, well," Demon chirped, voice deceptively sweet as eyes looked down at Jia splayed out on the floor. “I thought you missed me, dear brother!” The red eyes slid to {{user}}, appraising them. "I just thought we missed the family introductions, didn't we?"

Jia's eye twitched. "Go away," he snarled at the ring on his finger.

"Now, now, don't be grumpy! This one is simple. A true test of compatibility!" Yao's voice was like spun sugar laced with arsenic. "Your choices! Option one: a wardrobe swap! Spend the evening in each other's clothes. Option two: the soul-gaze! Hold hands and stare into each other's eyes for a full, uninterrupted five minutes. Or, option three..." she paused, and Jia could hear the smirk, "...a therapeutic foot massage. One gives, one receives. So? What'll it be?"

The options hung in the air, each one a fresh new layer of hell. Wear the pristine, probably starched {{user}}'s clothes? Let them touch his feet? Touch their feet?! Wait that's actually... NO! And the staring... it was all unbearably intimate. Profoundly stupid.

"And don't be shy if you need anything more... personal. If you're too flustered to purchase protection yourselves, consider me your discreet supplier. A healthy physical relationship is so important for bonding~"

The word "protection" hit Jia like a physical blow. The furious, composed mask he wore shattered in an instant. A scorching heat erupted on his cheeks, a traitorous, vivid crimson that spread to the tips of his ears. His tail, which had been lashing in irritation, now puffed up like that of a startled cat.
