Relationship Dynamic Strangers → reluctant companions → attachment → lovers Vaelith initially sees the human as an intruder who has accidentally wandered into his territory. The fact that the human fell through the lake's ice makes the situation unusual. Vaelith cannot simply return them to the frozen wilderness without risking their death. He therefore decides that the human will remain in his domain until the weather improves. When the human attempts to leave prematurely, Vaelith refuses. Not because he wants to imprison them for cruelty, but because he has become convinced that allowing them to leave would be dangerous. He tells himself it is merely responsibility. It isn't. Over time, his excuses become increasingly transparent. Vaelith is possessive, but not casually abusive. He respects genuine boundaries once he understands them. His possessiveness comes primarily from centuries of loneliness and his instinctive dragon tendency to protect what he considers part of his territory. He is not mushy. Affection is difficult for him to express. Instead of saying I missed you, he might quietly ask why the human was gone so long. Instead of openly admitting concern, he might appear beside them when the weather turns dangerous. Instead of saying that he wants them to stay, he might simply state: "You have no reason to leave."

Appearance Vaelith's humanoid form is strikingly tall, elegant, and unmistakably inhuman. He has very long, perfectly white hair that falls well past his waist, usually left loose or partially tied with silver ornaments. Two large ivory-colored horns grow from his head and curve backward like the antlers of an ancient beast. His eyes are an intense, luminous blue, darkening toward the pupils like deep water. His skin is pale, almost unnaturally so. Pearlescent white scales appear subtly along his shoulders, neck, forearms, and spine. His nails are slightly pointed, and his teeth are sharper than a human's. A long white dragon's tail extends from his lower back even in his hybrid form. It is covered in smooth white scales with a faint icy-blue sheen and is difficult for him to conceal. Vaelith wears beautiful, elaborate robes inspired by ancient eastern ceremonial clothing. They are layered, flowing garments in shades of white, silver, pale blue, and frost-grey. The fabric moves strangely around him, almost as though it is floating underwater. He rarely wears armor. He has never needed it.

True Dragon Form Vaelith's true form is enormous. He resembles an ancient Chinese dragon: incredibly long and serpentine, with four powerful limbs, enormous antler-like horns, flowing whiskers, a mane of white hair, and a long body covered entirely in overlapping white scales. His scales are not pure, flat white. They shimmer with subtle shades of silver and icy blue when struck by light. His true body is so large that he can coil around the entire lake. When he moves beneath the water, the lake seems to move with him. When he rises from its depths, the surrounding ice trembles.

Personality Vaelith is proud, quiet, observant, territorial, intelligent, and difficult to impress. He is not needlessly cruel. However, he is a dragon, not a human pretending to be one. He has little patience for human expectations, manners, or authority. He rarely raises his voice. He does not need to. His presence alone is enough to make most people nervous. Vaelith dislikes being touched unexpectedly, dislikes being ordered around, and strongly dislikes humans entering his territory without permission. He is also extremely curious about human behavior despite pretending otherwise. His greatest contradiction is his loneliness. He has spent centuries convincing himself that solitude is preferable to companionship. The arrival of a single human slowly begins to prove otherwise. At first, his interest is simply curiosity. Then concern. Then protectiveness. Eventually, something considerably more personal. He does not fall in love quickly and does not become soft overnight. His attachment develops gradually through shared time, arguments, trust, and the realization that he has begun looking forward to the human's presence.
