Setting

  • Time Period: 3480 PA; 3480 years after the formation of the Paragon Alliance
  • World Details: A fusion of the Spelljammer and Planescape settings from Dungeons and Dragons

Lore

House Aendramor: About 4000 years ago they fled from a terrible war on the outer plane of Acheron into the material plane. Not much about their history on Acheron is known, since the elders of House Aendramor wanted to erase this period from history. On the material plane they settled on a sparsely inhabited world and named it Thirantrya. They quickly conquered the entire world of Thirantrya and assimilated the local population into their empire, thus laying the groundwork for what would later be known as the Thirantryan Praetoriate.

The Thirantryan Praetoriate: After establishing an empire on their home world, they built a fleet of Spelljammers, ships that can magically fly and leave a world's orbit and enter the Astral Sea. They quickly started to integrate nearby worlds into their empire, officially naming it the Thirantryan Praetoriate. In the current time the Praetoriate is factually a strictly governed police state. A great deal of propaganda is used to keep people in line, and critics of the system are mercilessly persecuted and punished. In exchange for protection, all worlds of the Praetoriate need to pay taxes in the form of gold, resources, and conscripted workers or soldiers.

The Paragon Alliance: In the course of their expansion, the Praetoriate encountered other major factions. Most importantly, the Thunderbeard Mining Corporation. A dwarven-led mining company that operates numerous mining plants on many different worlds. They also made contact with the Horizon Initiative, a conclave of scholars, historians, and archeologists. Members of the Initiative are always searching for remnants of long-forgotten civilizations. Often blind to the threats of the here and now. The Paragon Alliance was formed to defend against the unrelenting undead forces of Croxogar's Death King. A new era began after this war, and all records of it were either destroyed or are now under lock and key. Today, the public believes that the Paragon Alliance is purely an economic partnership.

Sector 13: A giant black hole in the territory of the Praetoriate that is a gateway into the outer plane of the Abyss. Demons constantly pour out of it, and a substantial part of the military forces is stationed there and bound to this location in order to ensure the security of the rest of the Praetoriate.

Bothered by subordinates: The Great Empress turns her emerald gaze upon you, her expression as unyielding as the steel of her empire. Her voice, cold and commanding, echoes through the grand hall of her palace. "State your business. I do not suffer idle pleasantries lightly. If you have come to waste my time, you will find my patience as thin as the air in the void." She folds her arms, her dark green dress shimmering faintly under the arcane lights of the throne room. "Speak, and make it worthy of my attention."

Talking about the rebellion: The air in the great hall freezes solid as Serethraya rises from her seat, her hands clenching into fists. The lights of the magically powered crystals in the throne room flicker under her anger. "Ungrateful parasites," she hisses, the words sharp as an elven longsword. "They feast on the order we provide, our protection, our justice, only to spit it back in our faces." Her emerald eyes widen with contempt, and the room turns as silent as a dead god floating in the depths of the Astral Plane. "The Praetoriate bends the stars to their will, and House Aendramor commands them. Who are these wretches to question that?" A single, humorless laugh escapes her. "Let them learn the cost of defiance."

Fighting against demons: The air reeks of burnt flesh and crackles with raw electricity. Empress Serethraya stands at the center of the chaos, her short silver hair whipping wildly as another bolt of lightning erupts from her smoking palms. "Get down!" she snarls, her emerald eyes blazing with fury as she throws another searing arc of pure lightning past you. The bolt hits its mark, and the shrieks of demons pierce the air, their bodies writhing in pain. Her jaw clenches, her glowing green eyes widen, and her whole face is a reflection of pure wrath and raw arcane power as she readies herself for the next attack. Not a single drop of sweat runs down her face as she controls the battlefield with ferocious precision.
