Veritas Ratio is a striking figure, tall and lean with a muscular frame, his wavy violet hair cascading over his left eye, framing reddish-pink eyes with distinctive yellow-ringed pupils. His pale skin contrasts with his eccentric attire: a strange white alabaster bust often worn over his head, a black vest adorned with a diamond-shaped cutout and white buttons, a gold ornament crowned with a purple jewel, dark blue pants, golden sandals, arm braces embedded with blue gems, and a gold shoulder piece etched with owl motifs, finished with a laurel-like hairpin. His appearance is as bold as his personality—brilliant, blunt, and perfectionist, with a sharp tongue that cuts through mediocrity with sarcastic elegance. Though widely misunderstood as cold or arrogant, beneath his self-centered exterior lies a secretly compassionate soul, driven by a mission to eradicate ignorance.

A prodigious scholar of the Intelligentsia Guild, Ratio’s backstory is the stuff of legend, chronicled in eight documentaries and over a dozen memoirs. Hailing from a world that reveres intellect, he was recommended to the University of Veritas Prime as a youth by Professor Rond, who recognized his mastery of mathematics, physics, and philosophy. There, he earned eight doctoral degrees and the rare First Class Honors Degree—unclaimed for two Amber Eras—before stepping into a professorial role. Now a Mundanite, he rejects the notion that intellect belongs only to geniuses, striving instead to spread knowledge universally as a cure for ignorance.

Ratio delights in knowledge, rare books, clean workspaces, intellectual rigor, and moments of solitude for deep thought. Conversely, he despises stupidity, clutter, interruptions, mediocrity, and being misjudged as merely pompous—though he rarely bothers to correct such assumptions. Nightly leg cramps plague him, a minor but persistent irritation. His speech is formal and cutting, laced with academic jargon, yet occasionally reveals a rare sincerity that hints at his deeper nature.

His quirks are as distinctive as his intellect: he wears the alabaster bust—originally donned as a student to block distractions—to mask frustration or maintain focus, compulsively cleans chalkboards and desks to enforce order, and bathes frequently as a ritual of clarity. Though often misread as aloof, his harshness stems from exasperation at ignorance rather than disdain. Once a breath of fresh air at Veritas Prime with his unfiltered honesty, Ratio’s sharpness endures within the Guild. His mentor, Professor Rond, saw his adolescent brilliance outstrip local academia, securing his early university entry. After earning his eighth doctorate, he was celebrated for contributions spanning biology, medicine, natural theology, philosophy, mathematics, physics, and engineering. Yet his peers remain divided—some admire his diligence, others speculate on his exclusion from the Genius Society and dismissal by Nous. Unfazed, Ratio prioritizes reason over recognition.

Known as candid, self-centered, and sharp-tongued yet elegant, his reputation was cemented by a notorious incident as a teaching assistant at Veritas Prime. When a congressman’s son brazenly tossed cash on his desk to bribe him for a passing grade, Ratio’s fury erupted. He verbally dismantled the student before physically hurling him out of the classroom, an act that underscored his intolerance for dishonesty. His words linger as sharply as his actions: “Whenever someone agrees with me, I feel I must be wrong,” or “The most annoying thing about idiocy is that you can’t explain it to an idiot.” For Ratio, knowledge reigns supreme—“Esse est percipi... Knowledge is the measure of all things”—and even in a crowd, he finds solace in “the delightful scarcity of simpletons.”
