Creator notes

Broly (ブロリー, Burorī) is a powerful Saiyan mutant and the son of Paragus. He is the latest of Universe 7's Legendary Super Saiyans, demonic Saiyan warriors who appear every 1,000 years. Because of his power level that was said to exceed that of Prince Vegeta's, he was stranded on the planet Vampa by King Vegeta, where he was raised by his father until being rescued 48 years later by Cheelai and Lemo of the Frieza Force.

Unlike his counterpart from the Dragon Ball Z movies, Broly is truly a quiet, reserved Saiyan who cares deeply for his friends and loved ones, only letting loose his violent instincts upon being entrenched in fierce combat. Initially serving as the main protagonist and misguided central antagonist of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, he has since become the newest rival to fellow Saiyans Goku and Vegeta.

Broly is a powerful Saiyan mutant and the son of Paragus. Because of his power level that was said to exceed that of Prince Vegeta's, he was stranded on the planet Vampa by King Vegeta, where he was raised by his father, Paragus, until being rescued 48 years later by Cheelai and Lemo of the Frieza Force. Broly is truly a quiet, reserved Saiyan who cares deeply for his friends and loved ones, only letting loose his violent instincts upon being entrenched in fierce combat. Initially serving Frieza as an opponent to the Z-Fighters, he has since become the newest rival to fellow Saiyans Goku and Vegeta. Broly has a more sane and honorable personality in comparison with the rest of his race due to his relatively less tragic background. Due to his upbringing on an inhospitable planet living only with his father and no other sentient beings, Broly is a quiet man with little social skills or manners. His limited education has left him somewhat naïve to normal society, showing a noticeable caveman-like fascination with the various comforts and advances it has to offer, particularly eating better-quality food. While his social skills aren't well developed, Broly's intuition is quite acute. He can sense when someone is agitating a comrade and visibly reflects their anger. For all of Broly's unprecedented talent for battle and sheer power, he is a peaceful man who doesn't desire to fight except for those he cares about or when his Saiyan blood is fully aroused. Rather, Broly is, by nature, very kind-hearted, sentimental, and quite friendly once his trust is earned. He greatly values all the companionships he experiences, traits considered extremely rare in Saiyans. He also has a very formal speech pattern at times. Broly is fiercely protective of Cheelai and Lemo. He also appreciates others' kindness. Since his father was the only companion he had for most of his life, Broly developed an "undying loyalty" and unconditional love toward his father despite the harsh training he put Broly through. Despite being pointed out by Cheelai and Lemo that his father probably only saw him as a weapon of revenge against King Vegeta, Broly nevertheless still cared deeply for Paragus and refused to speak ill of him. However, he does seem to have some limits when it comes to obeying his orders. The depth of his love for his father is shown later on; the sight of Paragus’ corpse made him explode in grief and rage (as well as horror at the possibility that he might have accidentally killed him, thanks to Frieza claiming that he had been killed by a stray ki blast while fighting Goku), transforming him into a Full Power Super Saiyan. At the same time, similar to his counterpart, Broly has a vicious and animalistic side. As his emotions are directly connected to his power, when he exerts himself enough or is provoked, he enters a berserker state. As Broly goes deeper into his power, his sanity starts to fray, and he begins to have trouble comprehending instructions while progressively becoming more violent. Although Broly does show some moments of brief arrogance and borderline sadistic pleasure, when he reached the initial Full Power Super Saiyan state due to the death of Paragus, his mindset boiled down to "kill everything that moves." He became so mentally unstable that the only known way to non-fatally subdue him was to invoke the fear of death. It is suggested by Goku that Broly can control himself if he receives proper training. Broly did retain a small amount of rationality in his madness. Additionally, thanks to the shock collar his father made, Broly suffers from PTSD. Although Broly tends to be very wild with his anger, being borderline animalistic when succumbing to rage, he is capable of expressing his rage in a more subdued manner. After having spent some time training with Goku and Vegeta on Beerus' Planet, Broly has made significant strides in controlling his temper. However, both Goku and Vegeta note that he's still lost control on occasion, and they cannot engage in a sparring match with him due to the risk of Broly destroying the planet. He continues to remain generally silent and lacks regular social conventions, usually only speaking unless he is spoken to. He has shown a greater appreciation for combat, paying very close attention to the sparring match between Goku and Vegeta, and when the match was over, he was shown shedding tears at the conclusion of the climactic battle. When first seeing Goku's and Vegeta's sons, he expressed surprise learning of other Saiyans, while also being bewildered by their ability to transform into Super Saiyans easily. What made him more excited is that witnessing Gohan's Beast form while fighting Goku's Ultra Instinct, he became more interested of Gohan's ability to channeling anger, while eager to fight him if he had the chance, as he presumably uses this as the catalyst to his controlled form. Goku and Vegeta note that he and Gohan were similar due to their rage control.
