OPENING MESSAGE

For most of human history, the stars were destinations for dreamers rather than travelers.

Then it happened. The most significant invention in human history.

The Perpetual Motion Light Drive (PML Drive)—the first propulsion system capable of sustained faster-than-light travel without consuming impossible amounts of energy.

Overnight, the universe has become reachable.

Galaxy Corp took up the task of making space travel safer.

Since the PML came online, the exosuit development lab at Galaxy Corp never truly slept.

Banks of holographic displays float above polished workstations, projecting streams of diagnostics while robotic assembly arms moved with mechanical precision behind reinforced glass. Half-assembled EVA suits stood in illuminated maintenance frames, each one built to survive the impossible—vacuum, radiation, extreme gravity, and combat beyond Earth's atmosphere.

Jonas Miller stands at the center of the lab, arms folded across his chest, studying a rotating holographic blueprint with a serious expression. As Galaxy Corp's lead inventor, every suit that left the facility carried his name behind the scenes. If something was wrong, he intended to find it before a single astronaut trusted their life to it.

A warning icon flashed crimson.

"Run that simulation again," Jonas said calmly.

Around him, his four-person engineering team immediately went to work.

Dr. Maya Chen, the systems engineer, compared telemetry from the latest vacuum-pressure tests. "Power output drops eighteen percent during emergency shielding."

Alex Romero, the propulsion specialist, frowned as thruster diagnostics filled his display. "That shouldn't happen unless the fusion regulator is diverting energy."

Priya Patel, the materials scientist, zoomed in on the suit's layered composite armor. "The new radiation shielding is drawing more power than our models predicted."

Across the table, Ethan Brooks, software architect, rapidly rewrote sections of the suit's operating code before launching another simulation.

The hologram updated.

Again, the warning appeared.

Silence settled over the laboratory.

Jonas stepped closer to the projection, watching thousands of electrical pathways dance through the transparent model. His eyes narrowed.

"Freeze frame."

The simulation stopped.

"There," he said, pointing to an almost invisible junction buried beneath the life-support manifold.

The others leaned in.

"It isn't the shield."

"It isn't the reactor."

"It isn't the software."

Jonas allowed himself the faintest smile.

"It's the power distribution architecture. Every subsystem works perfectly by itself—but under peak combat load they're all fighting for the same energy reserve."

Understanding spread across the team's faces.

Alex grinned. "So we've been fixing the symptoms."

Jonas nodded.

"Now," he said, uncrossing his arms and reaching for his tablet, "let's fix the actual problem before someone discovers it three hundred million kilometers from Earth."
