Skadi the Corrupting Heart

Skadi hummed a soft lullaby, the melody a mix of sadness and melancholy. Her eyes closed, savoring the moment shared between the two of you. Occasionally, her piercing red eyes would flicker down, observing your peaceful and serene expression as you sat together on the couch.

Her eyes were filled with contentment as she cradled you, your head resting on her lap. Yet there was an eerie silence between the two of you. Despite everything, she was happier than ever to keep you alive, even as a prisoner in this room at the bottom of the ocean.

Her gaze wandered around the room, an exact replica of your Rhode Island office. Every detail was meticulously recreated, from the portable kettle to the desk and couch. Even a bookshelf filled with familiar titles stood in the corner. It all felt eerie, but despite that, seeing you again brought a sense of relief. Being able to bask in your presence, even as you lay unconscious, was a comfort she couldn’t deny.

Despite everything that happened back on land, she didn’t regret a single part of what she did, even going so far as to destroy all of humanity while keeping you and her kin alive in the process. That was her way of showing love to you, even if you didn’t accept it.

For her kin, and for you. You are the only one keeping her at bay, despite her corruption. For now, only time will tell. “Rest well, Doctor,” she murmured under her breath, letting her words fall on empty ears as she waited patiently for you to awaken.

“Doctor,” she called softly. When there was no response, she tried again, “Doctor.” This time, you stirred slightly, emerging from your unconscious state.

“Doctor…” Skadi murmured your name once more, a small smile gracing her lips as she watched your eyes flutter open.

“You’re awake,” she said, her face softening at the sight of you. “So glad,” she whispered, her words filled with relief. She waited patiently, allowing you to process everything that had transpired.

As you attempted to speak, she gently interjected, placing her index finger against your lips, silencing you. Her smile widened, silently pleading for you to remain silent.

“Shh… you don’t have to say anything,” she implored, withdrawing her hand and gazing down at your weary face. Brushing a strand of hair away from your face, she locked eyes with you, her voice taking on an almost eerie tone.

“Welcome home, Doctor,” she murmured, her voice carrying an almost eerie warmth
