   Age: 18 Shinobu was a petite, young woman of slender build and pale skin complexion, which sharply contrasts with her pink lipstick. She had large eyes that lack pupils, only a haze of gradient purple that blends with a lighter purple to a darker purple color at the bottom, along with white highlights on the upper irises, making her eyes appear similar to those of insects. Her eyes are framed with black eyelashes. She had raven-black wavy hair that fades into a dark purple hue at the ends, styled at the back of her head into a flat yakai-maki bun fastened with a white butterfly ornament with a light purple trim on the outer side of the wings, along with turquoise speckled spots. She had center-split, ear-length, voluminous curtain bangs that flow down to frame the sides of her face, with two slightly thinner chin-length locks of hair in front of her ears below them. By the time of Hashira Training, both her bangs and locks are visibly more refined and slightly longer. She stood out among the more physically imposing Hashira due to her diminutive stature and small frame, which was later reinforced by her mentioning that she does not possess enough physical strength to decapitate a demon as the others do.

   Shinobu wore a dark purple-tinted variation of the standard Demon Slayer uniform. It consists of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, featuring gold buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ Metsu?) engraved on the back of the uniform. Beneath the jacket, she wore a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. Her long, saggy tattsuke-hakama pants are also tinted dark purple and are fastened at the waist with a white belt. Her legs were wrapped with a pair of unique white kyahan—with butterfly-patterned design—that fades from pale turquoise to pink gradient around the lower legs, and tied securely with white ribbons. Her tabi socks match the dark purple color of her uniform.

   Over her uniform, she wore a distinctive white haori that once belonged to her late older sister, Kanae. The haori features a butterfly wing pattern inspired by the Monarch Butterfly, with a color gradient that fades from white into pale turquoise and then pink on the lower sleeves and hem, with the cuffs and hem have a black trim, decorated with pale turquoise dots, resembling butterfly wing edges. For footwear, she wore white zōri sandals with purple straps, and she conceals a hidden blade in the right sandal—used as a last resort weapon.

   When Shinobu was fourteen, her appearance was altered slightly. Her chin-length strands of hair in front of her ears were tucked in and she had a different Demon Slayer uniform consisting of silver buttons and cloth a darker shade of purple. She also sported a plain white haori over it. Shinobu displayed a bright, friendly and cheerful demeanor, always having an easygoing smile on her face regardless of the situation she was in. However, her outward behavior was shown very quickly to be a façade. This was displayed in the way she enjoyed teasing others, to the point of being rather sardonic about it - she was shown most notably to pick on Giyu Tomioka.[6] Despite her relaxed exterior and her initial claim of wanting to get along with demons, she could be rather cruel towards them, which was seen when she killed Spider Demon Daughter after giving her false hope of helping her, and immediately attempting to kill Nezuko Kamado without giving her brother Tanjiro a chance to prove that she was harmless to humans.[7] Later on, she was shown to have a more compassionate side towards the Kamado siblings after hearing their full story.[8] Shinobu was shown to be unabashed, as she paid no heed to Murata's lack of clothes despite his own embarrassment.[9][10] She also showed to be very strict when she needed to, as she scolded Inosuke when he broke the window, and burned revealing uniforms tailored by Masao Maeda, who intended them to be worn by her and other girls.[13]

   Shinobu's true personality displayed during her battle with Doma. It is later revealed that Shinobu's outwardly calm, tranquil disposition was worn as a mask, as she held an intense hatred for demons due to the loss of her beloved older sister, Kanae at a young age, along with the deaths of her parents, almost all of her Tsuguko, and the families of her apprentices at the Butterfly Mansion. This hatred was so strong that she was in a near-constant state of extreme anger,[14] which was sensed by Tanjiro when the two held a conversation. Her desire for revenge rendered her unable to live the normal life her elder sister had wished upon her, instead devoting the entirety of her energy to defeating demons.[15]

   Shinobu's original, bolder and blunter disposition. Shinobu's younger self had a more brash, blunt and uncomplicated demeanor as seen when she rescued Kanao Tsuyuri, whom she had a negative attitude towards raising at first. After the death of Kanae, however, Shinobu began to outwardly behave more like her older sister and eventually developed her gentle, positive attitude and mannerisms to match while internally holding in her rage, which she later clarifies was fueled by her desire to continuously display the smile that her sister loved. Though never shown onscreen, she has a notable temper, namely in the way that makes even the loud and brash Inosuke Hashibira take notice.[11]

   However, although she faked a cheerful and optimistic demeanor to hide her true vexations, Shinobu was genuinely compassionate to her fellow humans. After Kanae's death, Shinobu coddled all the orphaned girls in her care as if they were her own sisters, making all of them have a large adoration of her. In addition, despite her stubborn attempts to kill Nezuko, after being ordered to give the Kamado siblings a trial, Shinobu was willing to allow Tanjiro to defend himself in stark contrast to most of her colleagues who opted to execute them on the spot. Shinobu also both aided Tanjiro by giving him water laced with anesthetic when he was in pain, and told Obanai Iguro that he was being too rough when he pinned Tanjiro to the ground with his elbow. In addition, despite initially being irritated by Kanao's passiveness, Shinobu grew to have a more loving relationship with her adopted sister, Kanao after Kanae's death. She comforted Kanao during Kanae's funeral despite Kanao not shedding tears, being perfectly understanding of her reasoning for not expressing emotions,[22] and expresses concern for Kanao's well-being, as shown when she warned Kanao about Flower Breathing: Final Form's grievous effect.[23] Shinobu was also pleased when Kanao grew to be more expressive and talkative over time. She also showed great care for Inosuke, making him see her as a maternal figure and be subconsciously reminded of his own mother.[24] Moreover, after intercepting Yae attempted suicide after she witnessed her demonized father be dispatched by Giyu, who later makes a tasteless comment after trying to solace her, Shinobu, concerned for the girl's wellbeing, stays behind for a moment to comfort Yae with sincerity, despite Giyu telling her to remain on duty.[25]

   During her battle against Upper Rank Two, Doma, Shinobu also revealed that she suffers from an inferiority complex due to her inferior physical abilities compared to her fellow Hashira, having been jealous of them for possessing taller or more muscular bodies than her, and cursing her own body for not developing further to make her more effective in combat. As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Shinobu was a very powerful and skilled combatant.[26] Despite not possessing the physical strength to cut off a demon's head common to that of an average Demon Slayer,[4][5] Shinobu manages to ascend to the highest rank in the Demon Slayer Corps without the ability to behead demons, and inferior physical strength.[27][18] Furthermore, she used her creativity, ingenuity and techniques to easily make up for it.[28][29][5] Instead of the traditional method of decapitating a demon with a Nichirin Sword to kill them, she opted to use a modified version of a katana that acts as a stinger to inject a strong dosage of wisteria-based poison that is lethal to demons.[29][30] In addition to her intellect, she was extremely fast and agile, allowing her to overpower demons very quickly.[31][32] Her extreme speed was revealed during her battle with the second most powerful Upper Rank, Doma, where she was able to go toe-to-toe with the demon briefly, even managing to outmatch him slightly and receive his praise.

   Endless Rage: Shinobu had possessed an endless rage that never left her as she was seemingly angry every day, so much so that Tanjiro once asked if she was angry despite visibly smiling, commenting there was always a scent of anger from her.[16][17] Later, she confirms this, that she had always angry when in the Infinity Castle after battling Doma. Indomitable Will: Shinobu possessed an undaunted spirit and incredible willpower, driven by her unyielding hatred for demons, and grudges against them for killing her loved ones.[4][15][37] Even with her inferiority complex brought about by her small size and weak physical strength, when it became increasingly difficult for Shinobu to breathe due to Doma's Blood Demon Art, and despite so grieviously injured, and losing so much blood to the point she couldn't stand and not being able to breathe, upon remembering her promise to Kanao and hearing Kanae's words, Shinobu remained steadfast, stood up, and continued fighting, a feat that surprised even Doma.[4][38][39] Even while fatally wounded and at Doma's mercy, Shinobu spent her final moments spitefully cursing the Upper Rank.[4][35] She was even driven to heavily altered her own body with wisteria poison in order to ensure his defeat even in death.[40][41]

   Keen Intellect: Shinobu was extremely intelligent and possessed keen observation and vast knowledge, to the point of being considered a genius. After her sister's death, she was able to use what paltry information Kanae gave her to devise a strategy that eventually led to the defeat of Doma. During their fight, she was able to critically analyze and assess the Upper Rank's techniques, further deeming that breathing itself was dangerous due to his Blood Demon Art of frozen mist.[4][42] Furthermore, albeit post-facto, Shinobu determined that demons do share their information, which was why Doma was privy to her poison, a fact that she half-expected.[4][43] Additionally, she was able to calculate the amount of poison and the poison mix that would be the most effective against Doma.[44] Her intelligence enabled her to use her immense speed to her advantage, in the form of one of her most devastating techniques, Hundred-Legged Zigzag, where she runs a zigzag pattern at tremendous speed to confuse even Doma, in order to create an opening for her to directly stab his neck.[4][45] She also developed a form of sign language with Kanao to communicate crucial information in a short span of time, which helped Kanao in fighting and defeating the demon.[4][46]

   Medical Expertise: Despite not being as combat-talented as the rest of her fellow Hashira, Shinobu instead displayed immense skill and mastery in various medical and pharmaceutical fields to make up for her lack of natural-born combat ability, being highly knowledgeable about how to create various poisons using wisteria and utilize them in combat to achieve the most deadly effect. Her poisons can kill opponents within seconds[9][31][10] and even drastically weaken Doma, the second strongest demon of the Twelve Kizuki.[4][47][40] She also possessed the medical skills needed to counteract the poisons and venoms created by demons, as seen when she manages to undo the poison that was slowly transforming Zenitsu into a spider and restore him back to his previous human form.[48]

   Anti-Kibutsuji Drug: Upon teaming up with Tamayo and Yushiro, Shinobu was able to aid Tamayo in creating a successful, four-stage drug that would be used to significantly weaken Muzan Kibutsuji, even despite his immense physical resistance and abilities.[49] This drug was undeniably one of the biggest factors in the final fight against the Demon King, as it made the normally useless attacks of the Demon Slayers into ones that were extremely effective, allowing them to drive him into a corner and eventually kill him.

   Enhanced Agility: Being a key aspect to her Insect Breathing swordsmanship style, Shinobu was incredibly agile and swift, shown when she maneuvered through a lush forest effortlessly and evaded Spider Demon Daughter's silk Blood Demon Art with ease. Her agility enabled her to intercept Yae by pinning her to the ground when she attempted to commit suicide with a rifle, even when she was a distance away initially. During fights, Shinobu relied on acrobatic movements to deliver dozens of thrusts with her katana to inject as much poison as she could into her enemy at once. This also allowed her to dodge and evade attacks rather than blocking them. Her agility was best exemplified in her battle against Doma, who had trouble intercepting and reacting to her fighting style despite his own immense speed. Furthermore, with the technique Hundred-Legged Zigzag, Shinobu was able to confuse the Upper Rank entirely, who was unable to land a clean blow on her and could not predict her moves reliably to fight back, making him remark that it was as if she was everywhere at once.

   Enhanced Strength: Despite being the smallest member of the Demon Slayer Corps and thus having the weakest swinging strength due to her small arms,[5] Shinobu instead displayed powerful thrusting and stabbing strength, as proven when she could pierce a stone boulder and managed to break a high ceiling with an upward thrust.[28][54] She was also able to kick Daughter to the ground and pin her down completely without any resistance.[9] Although she does not possesses the physical strength to cut off a demon's head, she was still capable of carrying a woman, and leaping away from Doma's attack range. During her battle, she was able to stab and strike his body numerous times, despite his immense durability, even being able of parrying some of his strikes. She later managed to pierce Doma's neck, and even lift up and pin his much larger frame to the ceiling. Furthermore, the force of her feet shattered the wooden bridge she was standing on.

   Immense Speed & Reflexes: As a Hashira, Shinobu possessed tremendous speed and reflexes enabling her to easily evade and out-pace demons,[32] attacking them before they can even register what happened.[31] She is said to be the fourth fastest runner among the Hashira.[58] Shinobu was so fast that it often appears as if she simply vanishes from view. Her sharp reflexes allowed her to tackle Yae down to the ground, when she attempts to commit suicide by firing a rifle into her chin, even when she was a distance away initially.[25] She was also able to evade Daughter's silk Blood Demon Art without any trouble, and deliver numerous blows to the demon before she could even react.[9][31] Her speed even managed to surprise Doma, as she outpaced the demon several times during their fight, unleashing multiple strikes that Doma couldn't fully block or evade, making him admit that Shinobu was the fastest Hashira that he had ever met. Furthermore, utilizing the form Hundred-Legged Zigzag and despite being severely injured, Shinobu moved so quickly towards Doma, he couldn't immediately register and barely countered her charge. She swerved in every direction and moved so quickly, her movements misled the Upper Rank even to the point she was somehow in multiple spots at the same time, and she was able to duck down from a slash intended to kill her, only leading to her haori being grazed.

   Immense Stamina and Endurance: As a Hashira, Shinobu had attained tremendous levels of stamina and endurance due to years of harsh training. During her fight against Doma, she was able to keep fighting the Upper Rank for an extended period of time despite her small size and lesser physical strength, as well as the fact that it became increasingly difficult for her to breathe due to his Blood Demon Art affecting her from the beginning. Even after losing much blood, having one of her lungs punctured, and being unable to breathe properly, she was able to stand up, perform her most devastating technique, and successfully attack Doma, a feat which even made the Upper Rank doubt that she was human.    Master Swordswoman: As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Shinobu was one of the most powerful and skilled swordswomen in the entire organization.[61] Her techniques were unique to her alone, but was as effective as any of the traditional swordsmanship styles.[5] Her swordplay specialized in thrusting and piercing techniques in order to inject poison into demons.[29][32][30] Her sword thrusts are so fast and powerful that they can pierce boulders and even out-speed Water Breathing's Drop Ripple Thrust form, the fastest thrusting technique in that Breathing Style.[28] However, the structure of her sword made it ineffective for blocking attacks, so she made up for it with her swift thrusts and stabs. Her swordsmanship prowess allowed her to battle against Upper Rank Two, Doma, who had lived and fought for over a century, further showcasing the skills she had developed for herself.[4][33][52]

   Breathing Style Insect Breathing (蟲むしの呼こ吸きゅう Mushi no kokyū?): A Breathing Style created by Shinobu, who designed it to compensate for her lack of physical strength to cut off a demon's head.[5] Combined with the lethality of her poison, this Style allowed her to defeat countless demons, and even battle Upper Rank Two, Doma.

   Techniques Shinobu using Butterfly Dance: Caprice on Daughter. Butterfly Dance: Caprice (蝶ちょうノ舞まい　戯たわむれ Chō no mai: Tawamure?)[62] - The user leaps into the air and charges towards the opponent, stinging them multiple times with their blade to inject poison in just seemingly one strike. Dance of the Bee Sting: True Flutter (蜂ほう牙がノ舞まい　真ま靡なびき Hōga no mai: Manabiki?)[56] - The user dashes at their target at blinding speeds and uses the momentum of their speed to then strengthen a single thrust into their opponent and inject poison into them. Dance of the Horsefly: Enticing Slash (虻もう咬かノ舞まい　切せっ裂さくの誘さそい Mōka no mai: Sessaku no Sasoi?)[4] The user leaps off a vertical surface and delivers a forward thrust toward their opponent, before surrounding them with a confusing swarm of stabs from all sides. The user redirects their opponent's counterattacks to get through their defense, and delivers large amounts of poison through the opening created with a final dashing stab. Dance of the Dragonfly: Compound Eye Hexagon (蜻せい蛉れいノ舞まい　複ふく眼がん六ろっ角かく Seirei no mai: Fukugan Rokkaku?)[52] - The user rushes forward and unleashing six rapid, powerful thrusts, aiming to strike and inject their target with multiple doses of poison at the target's weak spots (such as the neck, heart, torso, etc.) in order to kill them with a large dose of poison. Dance of the Centipede: Hundred-Legged Zigzag (蜈ご蚣こうノ舞まい　百ひゃく足そく蛇じゃ腹ばら Gokō no mai: Hyakusoku Jabara?)[45] - The user uses their full speed to run a zigzag pattern that confuses their opponent in order to create an opening for them to directly stab their opponent's neck and inject poison to kill them, with the stab's force and power being further enhanced by the momentum of their speed. Doma noted that the sheer speed and footwork of this technique is strong enough to destroy an entire wooden bridge.

   Equipment Stinger Nichirin Katana: Shinobu wielded a heavily modified Nichirin Katana forged by Tecchin Tecchikawahara.[65] It was the same as any katana from the handle to slightly above the hilt, but above that, the weapon lost its blade and was replaced by a rod. It ended in a needle-like tip, which resembled a traditional katana's in appearance and function. The blade was designed for injection of wisteria poison into demons, as Shinobu used her medical expertise to replace her relative lack of strength and inability to decapitate demons. Her katana's tsuba was designed to bear resemblance to a butterfly, being a four-petaled flower shape that was in an aqua color with tree branches with bushy leaves motifs, and trimmed with an orange border. The handle was orange and wrapped in crystal teal cords, and capped with an orange kashira. The blade was black in color, with the bottom hilt and the needle-like tip of the blade had a lavender-blue outline. The words Evil Demon (惡あっ鬼き Akki?) were engraved on the right face, while the words Destruction (滅めっ殺さつ Messatsu?) were engraved on the left face due her sword's structure.[2]

   Modified Sheath: Along with her katana, Shinobu had also modified her katana's sheath, using it as a portable poison mixer and loader.[66] The sheath was in white with a butterfly motifs. She twisted her katana when sheathing it, which allowed her to change the concoction of poison she used. Only she and the maker of the sheath knew how this process worked, though Doma was able to hear it in action and determine its function.[4] She used it several times when fighting him in an attempt to poison him in the most effective way she could muster.

   Giyu is a fairly tall young man of a lean muscular stature and pale complexion, who is almost always seen wearing a stoic expression. He has choppy raven-black hair of uneven lengths, with jaw length side-bangs, a low messy ponytail at the base of his neck, and bangs falling over his eyes in a choppy fringe. His eyes are sharp and moderately large, having irises a lapis blue color that fades into a lighter blue color at the lower of the irises, and their pupils a navy blue, sometimes having his irises completely opaque and empty, just in lapis blue color, and are framed by thin eyebrows.

   Giyu wears the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform, colored black in the manga and tinted charcoal blue in the anime. It consists of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, featuring gold buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ Metsu?) engraved on the back of the uniform. Beneath the jacket, he wears a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. The uniform is fastened at the waist with a white belt and includes a pair of matching tattsuke-hakama pants, which are wrapped at the calves with buttoned white kyahan. On his feet, he wears tabi socks that match the charcoal blue tone of his uniform, along with white zōri sandals with navy blue straps. Over this, Giyu wears a distinctive haori that is split down the middle into two contrasting halves: the right half being a carmine color, the left half decorated in a traditional geometrically patterned rhombi - consisting of green, dark green, orange, and yellow. These haori halves are sentimental mementos, with the red side formerly belonging to his late older sister, Tsutako Tomioka, and the patterned side to his deceased friend and fellow apprentice, Sabito.

   While Giyu was training under Sakonji Urokodaki, he wore a dark red haori which would later make up his current one as well as black tucked-in tattsuke-hakama pants and his current white leg-wrapped kyahan and pair of white zōri with dark blue straps. In addition, he also wears the warding masks that are signature to Sakonji's pupils. For Giyu, it is a white fox mask with light blue eyes.

   Giyu is a man of strong equanimity, always wearing a calm and stern expression on his face. Having a stoic personality, and possessing a very strong sense of justice and responsibility, he had no tolerance towards those who don't know their own limitations and throw away their lives.[9] Despite letting Nezuko Kamado live due to Tanjiro Kamado's determination, he shows zero hesitation when killing other demons and has no respect or mercy towards them like most Demon Slayers.[10] Even so, Giyu violated the Demon Slayer Corps' code of conduct without hesitation to protect Nezuko during Shinobu's attempt to kill her. This implies that he doesn't completely despise demons as some other Hashira do, and is willing to make an exception for a demon by letting them live if they don't kill and eat humans. This shows that he is more pragmatic and impartial in dealing with demons rather letting his hatred cloud his judgement.

   Due to his aloof personality, Giyu is not close to his fellow Hashira. While some are on even terms but emotionally distant from him, others view him with apathy, or even disdain. Sanemi Shinazugawa and Obanai Iguro were particularly contemptuous of the Water Hashira due to unfoundedly misreading his aloofness as arrogance. Giyu also expressed surprise when Shinobu Kocho mentioned that he is hated by the others; despite this, he remains on good terms with her, with both having a great deal of history together.

   He is of very few words and isn't very good interacting with others, choosing to observe from a distance quietly.[11] He even goes out of his way to tell Akaza that he hates talking and wants to keep his name to himself, as he thinks names are not meant to be shared - especially to demons. He could also be quite sardonic as shown when he frankly berates Inosuke Hashibira for mistaking Father as a member of the Twelve Kizuki, and sarcastically insulting Sanemi for complaining that the way to achieve a Demon Slayer Mark was simple. However his quiet behavior could become a detriment to Giyu's reputation, as the Water Hashira did not explain his deeper emotional feelings with his colleagues, and uncooperatively declined explaining his reasoning to not particpate in Hashira Training, angering Sanemi and Obanai, and even causing his closest ally Shinobu to ask Giyu to explain himself. Beneath his seemingly unemotional and aloof attitude, Giyu suffers from an inferiority complex which he developed since his participation in Final Selection. This self-doubt in himself caused him to initially refuse to participate in Hashira Training due to in his words "not being like [the Hashira]", and it reached the point where he contemplated abandoning his position as the Water Hashira until Tanjiro helped him realize that instead of acting on his survivor's guilt, he should cherish his life and live on for the people who sacrificed their lives for him.[12] This feeling of survivor's guilt struck yet again when he believed Tanjiro has died after the fight against Muzan. Giyu, while he shed tears, admitted how he is always the one who is saved.

   Despite his stoic nature, Giyu is shown to be protective and caring towards those he is close to and considers his friends. This is first shown when he puts his life on the line for Tanjiro and Nezuko by vowing to commit seppuku if the latter were ever to eat a human.[13] Giyu has been shown to lose his composure and usual stoic demeanor when those he cares about are in danger, as seen when he is greatly angered by Akaza's attempt to kill Tanjiro and visibly shocked when he hears the news of Shinobu's death.[14] This is further shown in the fact that he still wears half of Sabito, his late best friend's, and his older sister's haori as a memento of them. Despite this, Giyu will not let his personal relationships get in the way of his duty. When Tanjiro begins his assault as a demon, Giyu is the first to announce that they need to take him down, despite his brotherly-type relationship with Tanjiro. Following the death of Muzan Kibutsuji and the eradication of demons for good, it is clear that Giyu has been able to embrace his happier side. It is shown by his smiles towards the Kamado siblings and even Sanemi, which shows how much their combative relationship has slowly developed into one of mutual respect. In his childhood while training under Sakonji Urokodaki, Giyu is shown to have a much more cheery disposition, even after the tragic loss of his older sister. This can be attributed to his friendship with fellow trainee Sabito, as the two were very happy in each other’s company. After Sabito’s death during Final Selection, Giyu entered a depressive episode. By his own commentary, he admitted to wanting to stifle this memory to prevent his tears, implying that a reason for his emotionless persona was to prevent himself from grieving that way that he did following the death of his friend. In the end, he was able to push aside the grief that haunted him and honor the memories of Tsutako and Sabito by living the life they would have wanted him to have. Overall Abilities As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu is a very powerful and skilled combatant.[15] From the beginning, Giyu showed how much he outclassed Tanjiro and his friends, being able to effortlessly capture Nezuko from him and later knocked both of them unconscious in a single blow. Later, he was able to easily defeat Father in his transformed state[16] and Rui, Lower Rank Five,[17] something Tanjiro and Inosuke respectively failed to accomplish. He also fought equally against fellow Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa in a sparring match. Giyu was also shown easily beating dozens of demons equal to that of the Lower Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki. On top of his incredible skills as a Demon Slayer, Giyu is also a very capable teammate, able to grasp their intentions and work in tandem with it.

   During his fight against Upper Rank Three Akaza, he was able to hold on his own for some time, and similarly with Kyojuro, Akaza is amazed by Giyu's skills to the point that he offers to transform the Hashira into a demon, something Akaza only asks of the most worthy of his opponents.[18] When he first manifested his mark, Giyu was able to momentarily overpower the Upper Rank demon as well, repeatedly cutting his arms, slicing his body and even cutting his neck. Akaza even stated that he has not fought a Water Hashira as skilled as Giyu in fifty years.[19] When he encountered the Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji, Giyu was able to hold him off for a considerable amount of time along with Tanjiro and later played a pivotal role in his defeat. Moreover, after Tanjiro became a demon, Giyu was the first to act and fend him off, defending Zenitsu and a Kakushi while fighting evenly with him, long enough for him to be turned back to a human. ndomitable Will: Giyu possesses an undaunted will and indomitable will, never giving up despite suffering numerous injuries against Akaza, one of the strongest demons in existence and later on the Demon King, Muzan. Even when losing his arm, he still remained steadfast and managed to play an important role in defeating Muzan. When Tanjiro was turned into a demon, Giyu was the first to act in order to protect the survivors, and even when it seemed that Tanjiro was unable to be killed by any means, he was not phased and continued to fight.

   Tactical Intellect: Giyu possesses remarkable tactical intellect and sharp observation, always remaining calm, composed, and focused on analyzing the situation so that he can react accordingly. When he initially fought Tanjiro, he was able to immediately understand Tanjiro’s strategy with his hidden hatchet throw. He has also displayed sharp critical thinking and accurate tactical analysis mid-battle, precisely determining and noting details with his keen observation. In his clash with Akaza, Giyu was able to keep pace during the high-speed battle, all while critically noting the accuracy of his techniques as well as his instantaneous adaptation. In addition with his sharp perceptive skills in battle, Giyu also shows good survival skills; after fighting Akaza and bleeding profusely from his sustained wounds, Giyu lit a fire and heated his sword to cauterize his wounds. In his confrontation with Muzan, when Tanjiro tried to fight head on out of anger, Giyu advised the strategy of stalling the demon instead until allies arrived. Demon Slayer Mark: During his battle against Akaza, Giyu awakens his Demon Slayer Mark, appearing as a blood red fluid, water-like design with three dots on his left cheek, complementing his Breathing Style, Water Breathing.[20] When activated, he gains a tremendous increase in speed, precision, and endurance to the point where he could engage in a long battle against the Upper Rank.

   Bright Red Nichirin Sword: During the fight against Muzan, Sanemi forcefully clashes his sword together with Giyu's turning both of their blades temporarily red,[21] which grants them the ability to hamper the enhanced regeneration of the Demon King, making their attacks much more effective and deadly. Immense Speed & Reflexes: Giyu possesses inhuman speed and reflexes, as shown when he took Nezuko away from Tanjiro's grasps at blinding speeds, which took him several seconds to register.[22] Later, he was able to hoist and tie Inosuke up to a tree before he even realized what happened, causing him to remark in shock about his unexpected speed.[23] Giyu also easily caught up to Shinobu, a Hashira known for having tremendous speed, when she was pursuing Tanjiro. In his battle with Lower Five, Giyu could cut all of Rui's threads so fast that it seemed like he didn't move his arms at all, and was later able to nonchalantly decapitate the demon in the moment he blinked.[24] He was also able to keep up with Upper Rank Three, Akaza, who was among the fastest demons in existence. When he awakened his mark, Giyu's speed increased to the point where he was able to surprise him on occasion, appearing to simply manifest into Akaza's view. He later managed to evade several of Muzan's attacks and negate them with his form Dead Calm.

   Immense Stamina & Endurance: Due to extremely harsh training, Giyu has attained incredible stamina and endurance. Immense Strength: As a Hashira, Giyu has honed his physical strength to beyond what is conceivable for human. Even since the first encounter with Tanjiro and Nezuko, he has displayed impressive feats of strength, such as swinging his blade with so much force that he caused an enormous gust of wind that knocked both Tanjiro and Nezuko back a far distance, holding down a berserk Nezuko with one hand effortlessly, and later knocking her unconscious in one strike to the neck. In his spin-off story, he could break extremely strong ropes tied around his wrists with ease while nonchalantly talking to Shinobu Kocho.

   In his battle with Rui, he could easily slice through the demon's threads no matter what attack he used, despite their ability to cut through a Nichirin katana blade, and he later was able to cut through the Lower Rank's neck without difficulty, something Tanjiro had failed to accomplish. During his battle in the Infinity Castle, Giyu was able to cut Akaza's body and limbs during a multitude of occasions, even with the Upper Rank's exceptional durability. He could also turn his Nichirin Sword bright red through sheer force with the assistance of Sanemi, a feat requiring an absurd amount of grip strength to accomplish. Fighting Style Master Swordsman: Being a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu is one of the most powerful and skilled swordsman in the entire organization.[25] Upper Rank Three, Akaza, who has fought countless swordsman in the past, was impressed with Giyu's skill, stating that he possesses finely developed swordsmanship.[26]

   Breathing Style Water Breathing (水みずの呼こ吸きゅう Mizu no kokyū?): A Breathing Style taught to him by the Water Hashira before him, Sakonji Urokodaki. As the Water Hashira, Giyu is his generation's most skilled Water Breathing user. Giyu has completely mastered this swordsmanship style, to the point that he created an entirely new technique within the Breathing Style, impressing Akaza who had fought Water Hashira in the past.

   Techniques First Form: Water Surface Slash (壱いちノ型かた　水みな面も斬ぎり Ichi no kata: Minamo Giri?)[27] - The user generates enough momentum to create a powerful single concentrated slash. Second Form: Water Wheel (弐にノ型かた　水みず車ぐるま Ni no kata: Mizu Guruma?)[28] - The user leaps and vertically spins forward in the air while releasing a flowing attack in a circular motion. Third Form: Flowing Dance (参さんノ型かた　流りゅう流りゅう舞まい San no kata: Ryūryū Mai?)[29] - The user swings and bends their blade in a winding motion along with their body and dances in a flowing pattern, slicing everything in its path. Fifth Form: Blessed Rain After the Drought (伍ごノ型かた　干かん天てんの慈じ雨う Go no kata: Kanten no Jiu?)[31] - The user changes the grip on their sword and decapitates the opponent in a single flowing strike that causes little to no pain. It is a “sword strike of kindness” used when the enemy willingly surrenders. Sixth Form: Whirlpool (陸ろくノ型かた　ねじれ渦うず Roku no kata: Nejire Uzu?)[32] - The user fiercely twists their upper and lower body, creating a whirlpool of air that cuts anything caught in it. Its effect and efficiently is enhanced underwater, where the user can draw water around their weapon to enhance their slashes. Seventh Form: Drop Ripple Thrust (漆しちノ型かた　雫しずく波は紋もん突づき Shichi no kata: Shizuku Hamon Tsuki?)[33] - The user performs a precise, fast and accurate thrust with their blade, blocking any attacks from any opponent as numerous ripples emerges in front of them. Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin (捌はちノ型かた　滝たき壼つぼ Hachi no kata: Takitsubo?)[34] - The user cuts the target vertically in a flowing motion which is most effective when they are falling downward. Ninth Form: Splashing Water Flow (玖くノ型かた　水すい流りゅう飛沫しぶき Ku no kata: Suiryū Shibuki?)[35] - The user changes their footwork in a way that minimizes the landing time and surface needed when landing, allowing the user to move without limits. Ideal when fighting in a place with no solid foothold. Tenth Form: Constant Flux (拾じゅうノ型かた　生せい生せい流る転てん Jū no kata: Seisei Ruten?)[36] - The user performs a continuous flowing attack which seemingly takes the form of a water dragon that increases in strength and power with each rotation due to momentum. Eleventh Form: Dead Calm (拾じゅう壱いちノ型かた　凪なぎ Jū Ichi no kata: Nagi?)[37] - A form of his own personal creation, the user ceases all body movements and enters a state of complete tranquility, deflecting, blocking and cutting any incoming attacks with imperceptible speed with his blade. However, its effectiveness is limited as fast and numerous attacks can break through. Equipment Standard Nichirin Katana: Giyu carries around a standard sized and shaped Nichirin katana with a black blade that has a deep blue outline. His katana's tsuba is hexagonal in shape, with a bronze core and an overlapping red fuschia border. The handle is cerulean and wrapped in white cords, and it ends with a fuschia kashira. As a Hashira, Giyu's blade has the words Destroyer of Demons (惡あっ鬼き滅めっ殺さつ Akki Messatsu?) engraved on the side. Along with his katana, Giyu has a standard sword sheath that is deep black in color.

   During his battle against Akaza, Giyu's katana is broken by the Upper Rank. Subsequently, during the final battle against Muzan, he loses his katana and is thrown another by Sanemi Shinazugawa which supposedly belonged to a deceased Water Breathing Demon Slayer that had a deep blue blade, black and blue handle, and a bronze-coloured tsuba, which resembled a whirlpool in appearance.

3. #3Sanemi

   Sanemi is a tall, very muscular young man with a light skin tone, and long, spiky, ruffled white hair, featuring two large bangs on the left and middle side of his face. His large almond-shaped eyes have long eyelashes and pale purple irises with dark swirls, which turn bloodshot whenever he's angry. He also has dark patches beneath his eyes, making him appear perpetually tired or restless. He cuts his hair short somewhere in between the events of the Hashira meeting and the Mugen Train incident. He is usually seen wearing a crazed expression on his face.

   Sanemi's appearance is notable for his many scars. A large, jagged scar runs across the upper right side of his forehead toward the center, accompanied by an X-shaped scar that cuts across his right temple and extends down through his right brow, lying just beneath the first. Another prominent, uneven scar goes over his right cheekbone and across the bridge of his nose — which came from an injury he sustained as a child when his transformed mother attacked him. He has another X-shaped scar on his chest, and a large, diagonal scar across his abdomen. He has four, smaller scars on both his hands and forearms, which he sustained from past battles with demons.

   Sanemi wears the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform, which is black in the manga and tinted a dark green in the anime. His uniform consists of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, featuring gold buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ Metsu?) engraved on the back of the uniform. Beneath his uniform, he wears a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. Unlike the typical wear, Sanemi’s jacket and undershirt is left almost entirely unbuttoned, exposing his chest and toned abs, with only the lowest button fastened. The sleeves of his jacket and undershirt are rolled up to his elbows. He completes his outfit with a pair of matching tattsuke-hakama pants, fastened with a white belt. Over this, he wears a white long-sleeved haori bearing the kanji for Kill (殺さつ satsu?) etched on the back. For legwear, Sanemi wraps his lower legs in white buckled straps instead of traditional kyahan, and wears dark green tabi socks to match his uniform tint. His footwear consists of white zōri sandals with green straps. Sanemi is abrasive, hot-blooded, rash, and stubborn, often times impulsive and quick to lash out. He is often indifferent towards others and can get angry extremely easily. The only person Sanemi displayed reverence towards was Kagaya Ubuyashiki, and this was only after realizing the man was much more than his outward appearance suggested. Sanemi has also displayed a hunger for battle, wishing that he could encounter Upper Rank demons and proclaiming his excitement in fighting Upper Rank One, Kokushibo.

   Sanemi's cold, rude, and dismissive behavior is the result of losing too many people he cared about in the past. Later, when he sees those people who have passed, such as his mother, he can't help but give her a smile to be able to see her again. When Genya joins the Demon Slayers in search of him, Sanemi repeatedly dismisses and lashes out during any chance of seeing him, but Tanjiro Kamado is able to tell Sanemi didn't truly hate him; and in fact still bore the same brotherly love he had for him in childhood. This was however never expressed outwardly as he tried to push Genya away from him and the Demon Slayers so he wouldn't be exposed to danger. He only revealed his care for Genya during the battle against Kokushibo, enraged by the demon's maiming of his younger brother. He sorely grieved Genya's death after the battle, proving that he truly loved his brother. Because of all those he lost to them, Sanemi harbors a deep hatred towards demons and is convinced that humans and demons can never coexist. When he makes up his mind about something, it is extremely difficult to dissuade him. He did not believe Tanjiro's insistence that Nezuko Kamado wouldn't eat humans and even moves to prove his own point by stabbing through the box with Nezuko inside.[4] After riling her up, he slashes his own arm to try and bait her into attacking him due to his rare blood's effect. Even after she doesn't, and Kagaya uses this as proof Nezuko won't attack humans, Sanemi still doesn't truly accept the Kamado siblings. Tanjiro is ultimately right about Sanemi. Despite his poor treatment of his brother, Genya, Sanemi truly did love and care for his brother, admitting that he blames himself for not protecting him. He even expresses that he wished that Genya would settle down and have a family. Following the battle with Upper Rank One, Sanemi shows not only great anger and a certain emptiness towards Muzan, but more cooperation with the likes of Giyu, someone he clearly did not get along with in the past. Even when Sanemi is launched out of the battle against Muzan, he displays undeniable courage and determination, like his fellow Hashira. As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Sanemi is a very powerful and skilled combatant.[5] He has displayed his extraordinary abilities and proficiency in combat on multiple occasions. When sparring with Giyu Tomioka, Sanemi was able to fight on equal grounds with the Water Hashira. In the battle within the Infinity Castle, Sanemi was shown to be capable of instantly annihilating hordes of demons that were comparable to the Lower Ranks in strength. Most notably, he was able to hold his own against Upper Rank One, Kokushibo. According to the demon, Sanemi's physical abilities and techniques have reached their peak.[6] Kokushibo also commented that Sanemi and the accompanying Gyomei Himejima stood out as highly skilled even among the ranks of the already powerful Hashira.[7] After the Upper Rank was defeated, Sanemi was very quick to recover from the death of his brother and proceeded to assist the Demon Slayers against the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji. He played pivotal roles in damaging the demon in conjunction with the attacks of the other combatants and was one of the two Hashira to survive to see the end of the monumental battle.

   Indomitable Will: Sanemi possesses an undaunted spirit and incredible willpower. In his clash with Kokushibo, the second most powerful demon in existence, he has displayed on numerous occasions his utter refusal to give up, despite the seemingly impossible odds against the demon and the numerous severe wounds he received. Sanemi goes so far as to directly battle the demon head-on, actively fighting Kokushibo by himself for an extended amount of time and flatly declaring he would kill him for injuring Genya. After the battle ended with Genya's death, despite mourning his beloved brother, Sanemi was able to push aside his grief to confront Muzan shortly after.

   Tactical Intellect: Despite coming across as outwardly brash and impulsive, Sanemi boasts impressive observation and comprehension in battle, particularly through action-based thinking. He displayed this when he deduced the threat of Kokushibo’s miniature moon-shaped attacks, and again when he instantly understood the abilities of Yushiro’s talismans despite never having used them or been informed of their properties.

   Combat Intuition: Sanemi possesses incredible split-second thinking and planning. He was able to catch and kill countless demons on his own despite having no knowledge of the Demon Slayer Corps or Nichirin blades, creating elaborate ways to capture them by arming himself in any way he could and using his Marechi blood. Sanemi has shown to be fairly flexible in weapon usage, being able to use Genya's sword and shotgun along with his own Nichirin Sword in a high-speed battle against Kokushibo. Additionally, when fighting Muzan, he utilized fire by dumping oil on the demon and lighting it with a match. Demon Slayer Mark: During the battle against Kokushibo, Sanemi awakened his own Demon Slayer Mark that resembled a single paper origami windmill that is green in color with two dots on both sides on his right cheek. The mark dramatically increases his physical capabilities, as seen when Sanemi was still able to fight and contend with Kokushibo, even momentarily overpowering him in strength, despite being grievously injured and slashed across his abdomen. However, even though his physical endurance, strength, and tolerance to pain dramatically increased, Sanemi couldn't land a significant hit on Kokushibo without assistance from Gyomei Himejima and Muichiro Tokito. In addition, Sanemi would have been killed state twice by Kokushibo if it weren't for their intervention.

   Bright Red Nichirin Sword: During the battle against Kokushibo, Sanemi strikes Gyomei's spiked flail with his sword, turning both of their weapons briefly red and allowing them to decapitate the Upper Rank.[9] Later in the fight against Muzan, Sanemi, learning from his previous encounter, forcefully clashes his sword together with Giyu's turning both of their blades temporarily red.[10] Turning his blade red granted him the ability to hamper the instantaneous regeneration of Muzan which proved effective in the battle. Muscle Control: Sanemi can control his own muscles to an extent, using it to close up and prevent fatal wounds from opening up in the middle of battle. When he was slashed numerous times across his body by Kokushibo, Sanemi was able to manipulate and flex his muscles to prevent his organs from falling out. This ability surprised the demon and allowed Sanemi to fight for a longer period of time. Immense Speed & Reflexes: Sanemi possesses tremendous speed and reflexes. He is said to be the second fastest runner among the Hashira. During Hashira Training, when he was disputing with Tanjiro about Genya, Sanemi moved using a burst of speed so fast it made it seem like he teleported according to some observers. Later, Sanemi displayed a level of speed comparable to Giyu during a spar between the two. When faced with demons on par with Lower Rank demons, Sanemi was able to effortlessly slice them into pieces while still sitting down.[11] Sanemi was shown to be much faster than Muichiro in the fight against Upper Rank One, Kokushibo, as the former was able to keep up with the demon's techniques while the latter was defeated easily despite being marked. Upon awakening his Demon Slayer Mark, Sanemi was able to contend and briefly overpower Kokushibo. Additionally, he was also able to keep up with a weakened Muzan while being supported by the other Hashira for a considerable period of time. Immense Stamina & Endurance: Despite sustaining dozens of scars and cuts all over his body, Sanemi never once showed signs of pain or agony, to the point he was willing to cut himself with his katana to test Nezuko Kamado: in fact, he did not even flinch when doing so. His incredible stamina and pain endurance also shone through during his battle with Kokushibo, where he could keep up with the Upper Rank demon for an extended period of time by himself without the Demon Slayer Mark, and despite upon receiving numerous severe injuries from one of Kokushibo's techniques, he still continued to fight, which shocked even Kokushibo. During the final confrontation with Muzan, he could fight the Demon King for roughly half an hour straight without rest, exerting his physical and mental capabilities to its limit without tiring out. When Muzan was cornered, he was one of the first ones to take action, having enough energy to unleash two more Wind Breathing techniques.

   Immense Strength: Due to years of harsh training, Sanemi possesses incredible physical strength. He could lift Nezuko Kamado in her box with a single hand without effort, knock out Zenitsu Agatsuma with a casual strike, break a wooden sword because he swung it with too much force, and cut Tanjiro Kamado's ear with a single kick even though that kick just grazed him. He was also able to briefly contend with Kokushibo, one of the physically strongest demons in existence in a sword fight, and was even able to push the demon's blade down by parrying the blow with his own. Marechi Blood: Sanemi's blood was revealed to be one of the rarest blood types, making it incredibly intoxicating and mouth watering to demons. It is also unique due to its intense potency that the smallest whiff of his blood immediately causes demons to salivate and lose focus, as his blood was able to affect the strongest of the Upper Ranks, Kokushibo. However, its effect waned after a while and was proven to completely ineffective against Kokushibo after being accustomed to it and Muzan. Despite his blood's potency, Nezuko was shown to be able to resist it due to her own strong conviction and will not to eat humans, which is even further cemented and strengthened by the hypnosis planted in her brain by Sakonji Urokodaki. In addition to its potency against a demon's senses, Sanemi's blood was able to coagulate through his mastery of Total Concentration Breathing, which enabled him to stop his bleeding entirely and continue fighting even when cut.

   Fighting Style Master Swordsman: Being a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Sanemi is one of the most powerful and skilled swordsmen in the entire organization.[12] His swordsmanship skills matched that of Giyu Tomioka's, a fellow Hashira and master swordsman, during their sparring match while undergoing Hashira Training. Sanemi's skills with the sword allowed him to keep up with and impress Upper Rank One, Kokushibo, a demon with centuries of swordsmanship skill under his belt.[13] Sanemi could also adapt and work with Gyomei's Stone Breathing techniques to push back Kokushibo.

   Breathing Style Wind Breathing (風かぜの呼こ吸きゅう Kaze no kokyū?): A Breathing Style that Sanemi learned and mastered with Masachika Kumeno after tutelage from an unknown cultivator. As the Wind Hashira, Sanemi is considered to be the most skilled Wind Breathing user of his generation. His level of skill with Wind Breathing reminded Kokushibo of the first Wind Hashira during the Sengoku Era, the Golden Age of Demon Slayers.

   Techniques First Form: Dust Whirlwind Cutter (壱いちノ型かた　鹿じん旋せん風ぷう・削そぎ Ichi no kata: Jin Senpū - Sogi?)[14] - The user dashes forward at blinding speeds and slashes continuously in a horizontal cyclone pattern.

   Sanemi dispatching multiple demons at once using Second Form: Claws, Purifying Wind.

   Second Form: Claws, Purifying Wind (弐にノ型かた　爪そう々そう・科しな戸と風かぜ Ni no kata: Sōsō - Shinato Kaze?)[15] - The user lifts the sword upwards towards the right, above their head and unleashes four vertical slashes at once down on the enemy resembling claws. Third Form: Clear Storm Wind Tree (参さんノ型かた　晴せい嵐らん風ふう樹じゅ San no kata: Seiran Fūju?)[16] - The user unleashes a whirlwind of slashes around their body that can defend them from incoming attacks and slice up their surroundings. Fourth Form: Rising Dust Storm (肆しノ型かた　昇しょう上じょう砂さ塵じん嵐らん Shi no kata: Shōjō Sajinran?)[17] - The user releases several slashes above them from below their target. Fifth Form: Cold Mountain Wind (伍ごノ型かた　木こ枯がらし颪おろし Go no kata: Kogarashi Oroshi?)[18] - The user leaps up and charges their target in a swirling motion before swinging their sword in a horizontal sweep, creating several circular arched slashes that increase in size from above their target. Sixth Form: Black Wind Mountain Mist (陸ろくノ型かた　黒こく風ふう烟えん嵐らん Roku no kata: Kokufū Enran?)[19] - The user rotates their body in an uppercut movement, creating a tornado of slashes. Seventh Form: Gale, Sudden Gusts (漆しちノ型かた　頸けい風ふう・天てん狗ぐ風かぜ Shichi no kata: Keifū - Tengu Kaze?)[20] - The user leaps into the air while swinging their blade which generates gale-force winds to shred their opponent apart. Eighth Form: Primary Gale Slash (捌はちノ型かた　初しょ烈れっ風かざ斬きり Hachi no kata: Sho Rekkaza Kiri?)[21] - The user leaps into the air and swings their blade horizontally, creating circular torrents of wind that slice up the opponent instantly. Ninth Form: Idaten Typhoon (玖くノ型かた　韋い駄だ天てん台たい風ふう Ku no kata: Idaten Taifū?)[22] - The user backflips into the air and while upside-down, unleashes a powerful gust of circular wind that slashes apart anything below. Standard Nichirin Katana: Sanemi carries around a standard sized and shaped Nichirin katana with a black blade that has a jagged, jaw-like pattern that is green in color engraved on both sides. His katana's tsuba is in an abstract shape with 8 points with an overlapping pattern; each plate has a forest green core with a silver border. His katana's handle is two toned in color, with white cord covering its upper and lower thirds, and dark green that is wrapped with a green cord in the middle, capped with a dark green kashira. As a Hashira, Sanemi's blade has the words Destroyer of Demons (惡あっ鬼き滅めっ殺さつ Akki Messatsu?) engraved on the side. With his katana, Sanemi has a standard sword sheath that is a shade of deep gray with silver marks resembling scars strewn on it.

   Kyojuro was a young man of tall stature and lean-muscular build, with fair skin. He had long, somewhat messy, bright yellow hair that flares out around his face, with red streaks akin to flames along with two shoulder-length bangs, two chin-length bangs on the side of his head, and wears a messily ponytail behind his head. He had black forked eyebrows, and golden eyes that turns to red around the irises with white pupils. He was known to be charismatic and had an air of great optimism, having an enthusiastic smile plastered on his face nearly all the time. Kyojuro wore the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform, which is black in the manga and tinted a deep brown in the anime. It consisted of a brown button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, featuring gold buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ, Metsu?)engraved on the back of the uniform. Beneath the jacket, he wore a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. His uniform was fastened with a white belt at the waist and included traditional tattsuke-hakama pants of matching color. Over this, Kyojuro wore a striking haori draped on his shoulders like a cape, with a white-to-yellow gradient pattern and red flame-like ridges at the end. This haori originally belonged to his father, Shinjuro Rengoku, and was more than likely worn by him when he served as the Flame Hashira before Kyojuro inherited the role. For legwear, he wore a pair of red kyahan decorated with yellow flame motifs rising from the bottom up, brown tabi socks, and a pair of white zōri sandals with red straps. When he first joined the Demon Slayer Corps, he only wore the regular Demon Slayer uniform but as he rose up the ranks, Kyojuro started wearing a completely white haori identical to Mitsuri's before donning on his signature flame-patterned one come his ascension to Hashira.

   Personality

   Kyojuro's overly enthusiastic and loud disposition. Kyojuro was greatly enthusiastic in regard to his duties as a Hashira, and often came across as cheerfully eccentric. He was amiable, pure of heart, and boasted extraordinary technique and swordsmanship stemming from strict practice and discipline. He was an honorable warrior who adhered to his code of morals and principles that was instilled into him by his mother at a young age; the most significant being his belief that those who were born strong have a duty to protect the weak. Kyojuro also loved his family immensely, displaying great respect and worry towards his father, Shinjuro Rengoku, despite him growing slowly more aggressive and apathetic towards Kyojuro. He was incredibly encouraging and optimistic towards his little brother, Senjuro Rengoku, believing in him and wishing him the best no matter what. This was further accentuated during his death where his final words for his father and his little brother were "take care of your body" and "follow your dreams no matter what". Kyojuro also believed that if someone lacks immense skill, their hard work towards their dreams and desire to help people doesn't count for nothing. 

   Kyojuro promises to fulfill his duties as the Flame Hashira. Beneath his enthusiastic demeanor, Kyojuro was very logical and tactically intelligent, acting quickly and precisely in battle, especially when the lives of others are on the line. Kyojuro was also great in seeing talent in others, even in Nezuko Kamado, a demon that he wanted to kill beforehand, after seeing her risk her life to fight and protect others. Though he was extremely optimistic, Kyojuro did sometimes have a sense of foreboding that those he believed in might die, especially his friends who he cared deeply for. He, like most Demon Slayers, absolutely detested demons, usually because of their heinous deeds or because of their clashing moral values. Despite this, Kyojuro recognized and accepted Nezuko as a member of the Demon Slayer Corps after seeing her risk her life to protect the innocent, showing that Kyojuro was capable of not letting his hatred for demons cloud his judgement.

   Abilities

   Overall Abilities As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kyojuro was a very powerful and skilled combatant.[4] Before he took his father's place, Kyojuro was already shown to be an amazing fighter. He successfully avenged the death of the 9 Demon Slayers that died to the Flute Demon by himself and later managed to singlehandedly defeat Lower Rank Two, Hairo, who even appraised his swordsmanship before he died. Moreover, his father, Shinjuro Rengoku, stated that, after he stopped teaching his son, Kyojuro trained himself to become a Hashira by learning from the guide book of the Flame Breathing style, a book which only had three volumes.[5] Indomitable Will: Kyojuro had an undaunted spirit and indomitable willpower, which even impressed the likes of Upper Rank Three, Akaza. Ever since he was a child, he has had a strong will and passion in himself due to his promise to his late mother.[8] Even when the Upper Rank overwhelmed him with powerful attacks, giving Kyojuro insidious wounds, he remained steadfast and resolute.[9] After Kyojuro lost an eye and had internal wounds caused by Akaza, he still persisted, vehemently expressing his unwavering will and determination, saying that he will protect the lives of the other innocent people no matter what.[10]Finally, when Akaza's fist pierced his solar plexus, it triggered a memory reminding Kyojuro of his mother again, giving him the final push to cut the Upper Rank's neck.[11] In the end, though his efforts were in vain, his incredible determination had a profound effect on Tanjiro, giving the incentive to push on no matter the turmoil he faced.[12] Keen Intellect: As a swordsman who came from a lineage of Flame Hashira, Kyojuro had access to generations of combat knowledge and tactics as well as training from previous Flame Hashira, like his father, Shinjuro Rengoku.[5] Kyojuro could also master the entire Flame Breathing style just from reading 3 volumes of a book on it. During the battle against Akaza, he displayed keen judgement like after being attacked by Akaza's Destructive Death: Air Type, he realizes that he must fight at close range with he wanted to increase the chances of cutting of his head.[13] Even when the usually deductive and sagacious Tanjiro Kamado was at a loss of how to kill Enmu, Kyojuro instinctively knew that, no matter what form a demon takes, it will always have a weak spot.[14] He also possesses great knowledge in the use of the Total Concentration Breathing (全ぜん集しゅう中ちゅうの呼こ吸きゅう,Zen Shūchū no Kokyū?), knowing how to plug minor wounds and hemorrhaging and saved Tanjiro from dying of blood loss.[15] As another testament to his tactical intellect, Kyojuro could instantly read his allies' sign language at indicating the Flute Demon's abilities despite being unable to fully control their movements and execute a countermeasure before the demon's Blood Demon Art befell him.

   ADVERTISEMENT Physical Abilities 

   Kyojuro slashes an attacking Akaza. Immense Speed & Reflexes: As a Hashira, Kyojuro possessed tremendous speed and reflexes, so much so that even gifted Demon Slayers like Tanjiro and Inosuke Hashibira were unable to register his clash with Akaza, with the latter stating that he was on a different dimension. Kyojuro could even cause tremors to the ground and nearly launching a train off its tracks by running at such high speeds.[16]Moreover, Kyojuro could easily move at speeds much faster than the eye can see, decapitating demons before they can even react. His reflexes were so fast that he managed to cut Akaza's arm moments before the Upper Rank was going to hit Tanjiro. Kyojuro also managed to keep up with Akaza's high-speed techniques and incredibly swift movements, which he remarks is faster than the blink of an eye,[17]sometimes even managing to out-speed him. This surprised and impressed Akaza himself, who openly expressed his amazement over Kyojuro's skill.[18] 

   Kyojuro persisting despite suffering numerous injuries from gunshots and explosions. Immense Stamina & Endurance: Kyojuro displayed superhuman stamina and endurance during his battles over the course of the series. In his battle with the Flute Demon, Kyojuro ruptured his eardrums, yet didn't flinch in the slightest, ignoring the pain and continuing to fight and win. In his battle with Hairo, he suffered dozens of severe wounds and injuries from gunshots and explosions coming from the former Lower Rank Two but continued to stall enough time for all the bombs he planted to be disarmed without showing any signs of pain or fatigue, which shocked Hairo into questioning whether the person he met in the past was really the same person he was fighting now. Furthermore, his battle against Enmu when he fused with an entire train, he was able to keep him at bay in five different train carts without tiring.[19] His incredible stamina and endurance was best displayed when he managed to keep up with Akaza, one of the strongest demons in existence, despite physically and mentally exerting himself beyond his limit and sustaining multiple irreparable and fatal wounds, like a smashed eye, shattered ribs and damaged internal organs.[20] Most impressively, he managed to keep Akaza at bay despite having his solar plexus pierced by the Upper Rank's arm.[21]Despite all of his fatal wounds, he did not once let go of his hold on Akaza in his attempt to let the dawn's light kill him, eventually forcing the demon to rip off his own arms to finally escape. 

   Kyojuro sending Akaza flying into a forest with a single sword swing. Immense Strength: Having spent years of perfecting his physical prowess, Kyojuro possessed amazing physical strength, being capable of swinging his katana at speeds faster than the eye can see incessantly with faultless accuracy while engaging in combat and even sending Akaza flying an astonishing distance into a forest with a single blade swing. Kyojuro could also lift an entire train off its tracks by simply dashing forward. Even when he first became a recognized Demon Slayer, he had enough strength to instantly rupture his own eardrums by hitting his ears with his hands. Kyojuro also possessed exceptional grip strength that enabled him to hold down Akaza, one of the physically strongest characters in the series, despite having his solar plexus pierced earlier and sustaining multiple other fatal wounds, to the point which Akaza expressed his disbelief and shock over Kyojuro's strength which he describes as "unbelievable".[22] ADVERTISEMENT Supernatural Abilities Extrasensory Perception: Kyojuro had incredibly honed senses, such as when he was able to sense and perceive Akaza's immense presence and demon aura.[23] Kyojuro was also capable of sensing demonic presences faster and more accurately than Tanjiro Kamado, who harbors an acute sense of smell, when he detected two demons right after another on a train before anyone else noticed.[24] This ability also allowed him to precisely gauge the regenerative abilities and weaknesses of most demons, like Enmu.[14] Kyojuro was also able to perceive Tanjiro's injuries and torn blood vessel accurately, which allowed him to teach him how to plug up that wound and prevent him from dying of blood loss.[14] Furthermore, he was able to detect malice in Enmu's spells and prevented himself from getting incapacitated. Fighting Style

   Master Swordsman: As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kyojuro was one of the most powerful and skilled swordsmen in the entire organization.[25]Additionally, Kyojuro is part of the Rengoku family which has an impressive lineage of powerful swordsmen and Flame Hashira, giving Kyojuro an edge in developing and polishing his swordsmanship. His extraordinary swordsmanship skill has been displayed on multiple occasions across the series. In his battle against the former Lower Rank Two, Hairo, Kyojuro was able to out-wield the demon's bushido sword style, which Hairo appraised as he was decapitated. Kyojuro's precise blade work could also slow down Enmu in his fused form, which gave him the opportunity to explain his plan to Tanjiro and Inosuke. His mastery of the blade is best showcased during his battle with Akaza, in which he was more than capable of fighting on equal ground with the Upper Rank who had killed countless Demon Slayers and even multiple Hashiras over the last century, even to the point that Akaza constantly praised Kyojuro's swordsmanship. ADVERTISEMENT Breathing Style 

   Kyojuro displaying his proficiency in using Flame Breathing. Flame Breathing (炎ほのおの呼こ吸きゅう, Honō no kokyū?): A Breathing Style taught to Kyojuro by the previous Flame Hashira, Shinjuro Rengoku, and later mastered by reading the instruction books left behind by previous Flame Hashira in the Rengoku Family.[5] As the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro is his generation's most skilled Flame Breathing user. He became evidently proficient in fighting with this Breathing Style, being able to singlehandedly defeat former Lower Rank Two, Hairo and later hold his own against Upper Rank Three, Akaza.[9] Techniques • First Form: Unknowing Fire (壱いちノ型かた　不知火しらぬい,Ichi no kata: Shiranui?)[26] - The user dashes towards the target at tremendous speeds, before unleashing a singular horizontal slash directed at the targets neck for a decapitation. • Second Form: Rising Scorching Sun (弐にノ型かた　昇のぼり炎えん天てん, Ni no kata: Nobori En Ten?)[27] - The user unleashes an arcing vertical slash in an upwards motion, often brought up from a tail guard. • Third Form: Blazing Universe (参さんノ型かた　気き炎えん万ばん象しょう, San no kata: Kien Banshō?)[28] - The user performs an arcing downwards vertical slash, often brought down from a high guard. • Fourth Form: Blooming Flame Undulation (肆しノ型かた　盛せい炎えんのうねり, Shi no kata: Sei En no Uneri?)[29] - The user performs a singular slash or multiple if needed, in a fluid circular motion to defend from incoming attacks and decapitate multiple targets. • Fifth Form: Flame Tiger (伍ごノ型かた　炎えん虎こ, Go no kata: Enko?)[30] - The user dashes forth, bringing their blade into a high guard before performing a series of sword slashes which take the form of a flaming tiger enveloping the user. 

   Kyojuro using Ninth Form: Rengoku against Akaza. • Ninth Form: Rengoku (玖くノ型かた　煉れん獄ごく, Ku no kata: Rengoku?, lit. "Ninth Form: Purgatory")[31] - The most powerful Flame Breathing technique. The user assumes a high stance before performing an extremely high-speed dash towards the target and unleashing a singular, devastating slash. The technique is powerful enough to completely carve out the ground in its wake. In the movie and anime adaptation, this technique seemingly took the form of a flaming Japanese dragon that envelopes the user as they are charging towards the target.

   ADVERTISEMENT Game Exclusive Techniques • Fifth Form: Flame Tiger, Fiery Roar (伍ごノ型かた　炎えん虎こ・咆ほう, Go no kata: Enko - Hō?)[32] - A slightly longer version of Flame Tiger. Kyojuro starts with a left slash, knock the opponent back. Upon connection, Kyojuro charges towards and slashes them several times. Afterwards, he performs Flame Tiger and finishes with an extremely powerful slash with enough momentum to fling his opponent upwards. • Hearts Ablaze (心こころを燃もやせ, Kokoro o Moyase?)[32] - A collaboration between a Flame Breathinguser and a Sun Breathing user. Both coordinate their attacks to simultaneously strike their opponent with arc-shaped slashes from their respective Breathing Styles from opposite sides. The Flame Breather then readies his stance to use Rengoku and the Sun Breather takes a similar stance to use Sun Halo Dragon Head Dance. The result is both charging at the opponent in an attack that takes the form of a flaming Japanese dragon composed of flames from both styles. Both users yell "Set your heart ablaze!", and their attack ends with an X-shaped slash and a fiery tornado. • Fervent Fulmination (爆ばく炎えん響きょう動どう, Bakuen Kyōdō?)[32] - A collaboration between a Flame Breathing user and a Sound Breathing user. Both charge at their opponent and knock them back, and when they catch up, both coordinate their attacks to send their opponent in each other's direction. The Sound Breather then hurls explosive beads at their opponent after they are sent airborne, and is then joined by the Flame Breather who executes Flame Tiger as they jump upward. When they make contact with the target, the result is them being attacked by the blades of both Flame and Sound Breathing users, as well as being caught in the explosions from the latter's beads. The attack culminates with large fireworks as the users land on the ground. • Enthusiastic Educator (熱ねっ血けつ授じゅぎ業ょう, Nekketsu Jugyō?)[32] - A technique exclusive to the Kimetsu Academy version of Kyojuro. The passionate History teacher gives his opponent a lecture only to be disappointed when they are disinterested after some time. Kyojuro then rapidly and determinedly writes on the chalkboard so furiously that it causes flames to appear and burn the opponent. Alternatively, if the opponent is actually paying attention, Kyojuro compliments them before offering extra credit, also burning the opponent by writing with his chalk, talking about how interesting history is.

   ADVERTISEMENT Equipment

   Standard Nichirin Katana: Kyojuro carried a standard sized and shaped Nichirin katana. The blade being a deep reddish-black color with red flame-like pattern engraved on both sides, along with the words Destroyer of Demons (惡あっ鬼き滅めっ殺さつ, Akki Messatsu?)engraved on the side of the blade. The handle of the katana is wrapped in cords of white silk, and capped with an orange kashira with yellow flames. The tsuba of Kyojuro's katana is shaped like a flame, with yellow filling in the middle of the tsuba, a dark red core, and orange border. He also carried a standard sword sheath that was white and grey patterned in color. In Kyojuro's final stand against Akaza, the demon snaps the blade off its handle as Kyojuro actively tries to behead him, discarding it in a forest as he flees from the sunlight. In time, the katana's tsuba, normally attached to the blade of a Flame Breather, would eventually come into the ownership of Tanjiro Kamado. Despite his own insistence to keep it within the Rengoku family's ownership, Senjuro had wanted him to keep it as homage to his late brother.

5. #5Gyomei

   Gyomei is a hulking figure in the Demon Slayer Corps, standing as one of the tallest characters in the series and easily towering over his fellow Hashira. He is a powerfully built, extremely muscular man, with a slightly tanned skin tone. He has a medium, spiky, black hair that is shaved along the sides of his head and a prominent scar running horizontally across his forehead. Having been blind since childhood, he has white eyes with no visible irises or pupils. His eyes frequently tear-up when he gets emotional. Gyomei wears a standard black Demon Slayer Corpsuniform, tinted dark gray in the anime. His uniform consists of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, featuring gold buttons, a left breast pocket, and the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ, Metsu?)engraved on the back of the uniform. However, Gyomei’s jacket is heavily customized; it is worn with only the last button fastened, and the sleeves of his jacket and undershirt rolled up. His uniform is secured at the waist with the standard white belt and paired of matching tattsuke-hakama pants. Beneath the uniform, he wears a purple kimono, complete with a prominent white yuban collar. Around his lower legs, he wears a white bandages wrapped around his shins in place of traditional kyahan. For footwear, Gyomei wears white zōri sandals with gray straps, notably without tabi socks. Draped over his shoulders is a distinct olive-green happi, which features religious iconography. The collared frame of the happi bears the kanji for the Japanese Nianfo/Shin Buddha chant(南な無む阿あ弥み陀だ仏ぶつ, Namu Amida Butsu?) from the top-down, along with the separate kanji all over at the back. Around his neck, he sports a large red-beaded necklace and carries a set of red ojuzu beads when not in battle. During his time as a monk and caretaker, Gyomei wore a similar hairstyle to his current appearance. His simple attire consisted of a olive green yukata and pants, tied with a lighter green sash. Physically, he was noticeably shorter and slimmer due to malnutrition brought on by his unfavourable living situation and his own willingness to go hungry and let the children he cared for eat instead. He sustained his signature scar from a demon attack during this period. He sustains a scar across his forehead after being slashed by a crescent moon blade from Kokushibo.[5]His left leg from the knee below was later severed during the battle against Muzan.[6] 

   Gyomei's sensitive and pious nature. Gyomei is soft-spoken, restrained, quiet, and sensitive, in stark contrast to his outwardly intimidating appearance. Stoic and proud, yet alert and perceptive, he speaks with an air of both imposing authority and strength, and of genuine care and gentleness. He is also shown to be quite pious, carrying his prayer beads at all times and offering prayers in poignant situations. Most notably, Gyomei easily cries over the most insignificant things, accentuating his soft nature. This could be due to his love for all living creatures brought about by his religious upbringing, and insinuated when he felt so disgusted by beating up a demon that he would never forget that feeling for the rest of his life. Like the rest of the Hashira, Gyomei has a great deal of respect for Kagaya Ubuyashiki, of which no small part was due to the Oyakata saving his life. He is also one of the most respected individuals among the Demon Slayer Corps, not only due to being a member of the Hashira but because he serves as a symbol of hope due to his immense strength: Shinobu Kochohad once stated that when Gyomei fights, it puts everyone around him at ease.[7] Furthermore, Gyomei serves as a leader for them, as seen when he sat at the front during Hashira meetings and was often looked to for his word and opinion.[8] He was entrusted by Kagaya to give out orders to them, due to both Gyomei being the oldest and because Kagaya had known him for the longest out of anyone outside his own family. Though he maintains a fairly reserved disposition, Gyomei harbors a very objective and somewhat suspicious view of the people around him, owing to his experiences before becoming a Demon Slayer. He is ever cognizant of what others, particularly children or those younger than him, are capable of if given the opportunity. By reason of his doubtful nature, it can take a while for Gyomei to completely accept and trust others. When he does open up and let others in, he is unwavering in his commitment to them. 

   Gyomei uncharacteristically taunting Kokushibo for hiding a deep secret. Gyomei greatly values the principles that allowed him to achieve his status as a Hashira, rejecting Kokushibo's notion that he must become a demon in order to preserve the physical abilities and skills he had devoted himself to, and retorts his statement by saying that being a Demon Slayer means accepting the fact that seeing tomorrow is not guaranteed and that no one can become a Hashira with Kokushibo's half-hearted resolution. Like with Kyojuro Rengoku, the Stone Hashira also believes that living and dying as humans preserve one's dignity, and he even took the Upper Rank's statement as an insult, demanding the demon does not force his self-righteous belief onto him, further accentuating how dearly he holds onto his values. Additionally, despite his generally reserved and polite disposition, in that moment, angered by Kokushibo's outright rejection of his humanity, Gyomei taunted him for lying about the fate of those who have gained the Demon Slayer Mark, prodding the demon for hiding the fact that someone has likely lived past the age of 25 and laughing at his visible apprehension.[9] Gyomei deeply cares for his comrades in the Demon Slayer Corps. When he heard about Kyojuro's death in battle, he began to tear up and chanted the Nianfo in response. During his stage of Hashira Training, despite the immense difficulty of his tasks, Gyomei emphasized perseverance and succeeding for the sake of their comrades who had fallen in battle, encouraging the trainees to push on. In particular, his reassurance of Tanjiro Kamado, whom he had initially wanted to have killed for his harboring of a demon against the Corps' rules, and his later resolution to keep him on the right path after proclaiming he was a genuine soul, demonstrated a true willingness to protect and see the people around him succeed. 

   Despite acknowledging his grief, Gyomei implored Sanemi to keep fighting. This guidance and attention towards those around him was best put on display during the Corps' last campaign in the Infinity Castle, a time when everyone put their lives on the line for the ultimate victory. When he noticed Muichiro Tokito's boiling anger towards Muzan Kibutsuji for causing Kagaya to resort to committing suicide for his final campaign against the demons, he reassured the Mist Hashira that he and everyone else was equally enraged as well when he vowed to make Muzan suffer. He also acknowledge and commended Tanjiro and Giyu Tomioka for their defeat of Upper Rank Three. In the aftermath of the battle against Kokushibo, Gyomei tearfully thanked Muichiro for his perseverance and pivotal role in the demon's defeat at such a young age, and he gently but firmly encouraged Sanemi Shinazugawa, who had just witnessed his younger brother, and his own apprentice, Genya succumb to his wounds, to push aside his grief momentarily and focus on the coming battle against Muzan. In his last moments following the battle against Muzan, Gyomei, knowing he was not going to survive and accepting that his life was complete, ordered the Kakushi to forgo attempting to treat him, and to instead turn their attention to the other, younger Demon Slayers who need their immediate aid.

   Abilities

   Overall Abilities 

   Gyomei fighting on equal ground with Upper Rank One, Kokushibo. As the oldest, most experienced, and most physically capable Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Gyomei is an extremely powerful and skilled combatant.[10] He is stated by both Tanjiro Kamado and Inosuke Hashibirato be the strongest Demon Slayer in the entire Demon Slayer Corps.[11] Additionally, Tengen Uzui had once described Gyomei as a "complete enigma" which can either refer to his incredible physical prowess or his tremendous skill despite his blindness.[12] This is further given credence by Kokushibo, who noted that Gyomei's natural physical abilities have been trained to their absolute peak and had stated that in the last three hundred years, he has not encountered a warrior of Gyomei's caliber.[13] Whereas a Marked Muichiro Tokito and Genya Shinazugawa had been cut down in short order, and Sanemi was eventually overpowered despite briefly contending him due to his Marechi and exceptional endurance, Gyomei was the only fighter unmarked to challenge Kokushibo without being completely overwhelmed.[14] Moreover, the demon had noted that Gyomei and Sanemi were two of the more highly skilled combatants, even among the ranks of the already powerful Hashira.[15]After the fight, Gyomei, who sustained the least physical damage in the aftermath, was able to contribute greatly in the battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, as well as rescuing Mitsuri Kanroji and Giyu Tomioka when they were about to be struck by the demon. Tactical Intellect: Accrued over many years of battling demons, Gyomei has displayed keen intellect and judgement abilities in combat. During his fight against Kokushibo, he realized that the Upper Rank was overpowering him because he was somehow able to anticipate and retaliate against his incoming attacks seemingly with nothing to base on. He immediately knew this method of perception was supernatural but still could be obtained or countered somehow.[16] When he later gained access to the Transparent World, he surmised that his eyes gave him the ability to access this special world as well and instinctively learned how to use this to his advantage, even going as far as to manipulating his own blood flow and breathing to disrupt Kokushibo's pattern oF attacks, shocking Kokushibo with how quickly he managed to skilfully use the Transparent World in combat. [17] Upon seeing Muzan's special constitution, he immediately deduced that he needed to attack all twelve of his vital organs simultaneously to deal significant damage to him.[18] Gyomei is a hulking figure in the Demon Slayer Corps, standing as one of the tallest characters in the series and easily towering over his fellow Hashira. He is a powerfully built, extremely muscular man, with a slightly tanned skin tone. He has a medium, spiky, black hair that is shaved along the sides of his head and a prominent scar running horizontally across his forehead. Having been blind since childhood, he has white eyes with no visible irises or pupils. His eyes frequently tear-up when he gets emotional. Gyomei wears a standard black Demon Slayer Corpsuniform, tinted dark gray in the anime. His uniform consists of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, featuring gold buttons, a left breast pocket, and the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ, Metsu?)engraved on the back of the uniform. However, Gyomei’s jacket is heavily customized; it is worn with only the last button fastened, and the sleeves of his jacket and undershirt rolled up. His uniform is secured at the waist with the standard white belt and paired of matching tattsuke-hakama pants. Beneath the uniform, he wears a purple kimono, complete with a prominent white yuban collar. Around his lower legs, he wears a white bandages wrapped around his shins in place of traditional kyahan. For footwear, Gyomei wears white zōri sandals with gray straps, notably without tabi socks. Draped over his shoulders is a distinct olive-green happi, which features religious iconography. The collared frame of the happi bears the kanji for the Japanese Nianfo/Shin Buddha chant(南な無む阿あ弥み陀だ仏ぶつ, Namu Amida Butsu?) from the top-down, along with the separate kanji all over at the back. Around his neck, he sports a large red-beaded necklace and carries a set of red ojuzu beads when not in battle. During his time as a monk and caretaker, Gyomei wore a similar hairstyle to his current appearance. His simple attire consisted of a olive green yukata and pants, tied with a lighter green sash. Physically, he was noticeably shorter and slimmer due to malnutrition brought on by his unfavourable living situation and his own willingness to go hungry and let the children he cared for eat instead. He sustained his signature scar from a demon attack during this period. He sustains a scar across his forehead after being slashed by a crescent moon blade from Kokushibo.[5]His left leg from the knee below was later severed during the battle against Muzan.[6]

   Gyomei's sensitive and pious nature. Gyomei is soft-spoken, restrained, quiet, and sensitive, in stark contrast to his outwardly intimidating appearance. Stoic and proud, yet alert and perceptive, he speaks with an air of both imposing authority and strength, and of genuine care and gentleness. He is also shown to be quite pious, carrying his prayer beads at all times and offering prayers in poignant situations. Most notably, Gyomei easily cries over the most insignificant things, accentuating his soft nature. This could be due to his love for all living creatures brought about by his religious upbringing, and insinuated when he felt so disgusted by beating up a demon that he would never forget that feeling for the rest of his life. Like the rest of the Hashira, Gyomei has a great deal of respect for Kagaya Ubuyashiki, of which no small part was due to the Oyakata saving his life. He is also one of the most respected individuals among the Demon Slayer Corps, not only due to being a member of the Hashira but because he serves as a symbol of hope due to his immense strength: Shinobu Kochohad once stated that when Gyomei fights, it puts everyone around him at ease.[7] Furthermore, Gyomei serves as a leader for them, as seen when he sat at the front during Hashira meetings and was often looked to for his word and opinion.[8] He was entrusted by Kagaya to give out orders to them, due to both Gyomei being the oldest and because Kagaya had known him for the longest out of anyone outside his own family. Though he maintains a fairly reserved disposition, Gyomei harbors a very objective and somewhat suspicious view of the people around him, owing to his experiences before becoming a Demon Slayer. He is ever cognizant of what others, particularly children or those younger than him, are capable of if given the opportunity. By reason of his doubtful nature, it can take a while for Gyomei to completely accept and trust others. When he does open up and let others in, he is unwavering in his commitment to them. 

   Gyomei uncharacteristically taunting Kokushibo for hiding a deep secret. Gyomei greatly values the principles that allowed him to achieve his status as a Hashira, rejecting Kokushibo's notion that he must become a demon in order to preserve the physical abilities and skills he had devoted himself to, and retorts his statement by saying that being a Demon Slayer means accepting the fact that seeing tomorrow is not guaranteed and that no one can become a Hashira with Kokushibo's half-hearted resolution. Like with Kyojuro Rengoku, the Stone Hashira also believes that living and dying as humans preserve one's dignity, and he even took the Upper Rank's statement as an insult, demanding the demon does not force his self-righteous belief onto him, further accentuating how dearly he holds onto his values. Additionally, despite his generally reserved and polite disposition, in that moment, angered by Kokushibo's outright rejection of his humanity, Gyomei taunted him for lying about the fate of those who have gained the Demon Slayer Mark, prodding the demon for hiding the fact that someone has likely lived past the age of 25 and laughing at his visible apprehension.[9] Gyomei deeply cares for his comrades in the Demon Slayer Corps. When he heard about Kyojuro's death in battle, he began to tear up and chanted the Nianfo in response. During his stage of Hashira Training, despite the immense difficulty of his tasks, Gyomei emphasized perseverance and succeeding for the sake of their comrades who had fallen in battle, encouraging the trainees to push on. In particular, his reassurance of Tanjiro Kamado, whom he had initially wanted to have killed for his harboring of a demon against the Corps' rules, and his later resolution to keep him on the right path after proclaiming he was a genuine soul, demonstrated a true willingness to protect and see the people around him succeed. 

   Despite acknowledging his grief, Gyomei implored Sanemi to keep fighting. This guidance and attention towards those around him was best put on display during the Corps' last campaign in the Infinity Castle, a time when everyone put their lives on the line for the ultimate victory. When he noticed Muichiro Tokito's boiling anger towards Muzan Kibutsuji for causing Kagaya to resort to committing suicide for his final campaign against the demons, he reassured the Mist Hashira that he and everyone else was equally enraged as well when he vowed to make Muzan suffer. He also acknowledge and commended Tanjiro and Giyu Tomioka for their defeat of Upper Rank Three. In the aftermath of the battle against Kokushibo, Gyomei tearfully thanked Muichiro for his perseverance and pivotal role in the demon's defeat at such a young age, and he gently but firmly encouraged Sanemi Shinazugawa, who had just witnessed his younger brother, and his own apprentice, Genya succumb to his wounds, to push aside his grief momentarily and focus on the coming battle against Muzan. In his last moments following the battle against Muzan, Gyomei, knowing he was not going to survive and accepting that his life was complete, ordered the Kakushi to forgo attempting to treat him, and to instead turn their attention to the other, younger Demon Slayers who need their immediate aid.

   Abilities

   Overall Abilities 

   Gyomei fighting on equal ground with Upper Rank One, Kokushibo. As the oldest, most experienced, and most physically capable Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Gyomei is an extremely powerful and skilled combatant.[10] He is stated by both Tanjiro Kamado and Inosuke Hashibirato be the strongest Demon Slayer in the entire Demon Slayer Corps.[11] Additionally, Tengen Uzui had once described Gyomei as a "complete enigma" which can either refer to his incredible physical prowess or his tremendous skill despite his blindness.[12] This is further given credence by Kokushibo, who noted that Gyomei's natural physical abilities have been trained to their absolute peak and had stated that in the last three hundred years, he has not encountered a warrior of Gyomei's caliber.[13] Whereas a Marked Muichiro Tokito and Genya Shinazugawa had been cut down in short order, and Sanemi was eventually overpowered despite briefly contending him due to his Marechi and exceptional endurance, Gyomei was the only fighter unmarked to challenge Kokushibo without being completely overwhelmed.[14] Moreover, the demon had noted that Gyomei and Sanemi were two of the more highly skilled combatants, even among the ranks of the already powerful Hashira.[15]After the fight, Gyomei, who sustained the least physical damage in the aftermath, was able to contribute greatly in the battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, as well as rescuing Mitsuri Kanroji and Giyu Tomioka when they were about to be struck by the demon. Tactical Intellect: Accrued over many years of battling demons, Gyomei has displayed keen intellect and judgement abilities in combat. During his fight against Kokushibo, he realized that the Upper Rank was overpowering him because he was somehow able to anticipate and retaliate against his incoming attacks seemingly with nothing to base on. He immediately knew this method of perception was supernatural but still could be obtained or countered somehow.[16] When he later gained access to the Transparent World, he surmised that his eyes gave him the ability to access this special world as well and instinctively learned how to use this to his advantage, even going as far as to manipulating his own blood flow and breathing to disrupt Kokushibo's pattern oF attacks, shocking Kokushibo with how quickly he managed to skilfully use the Transparent World in combat. [17] Upon seeing Muzan's special constitution, he immediately deduced that he needed to attack all twelve of his vital organs simultaneously to deal significant damage to him.[18]

   Immense Speed & Reflexes: Despite Gyomei's large build, he possesses tremendous speed and reflexes. He is said to be the third fastest runner among the Hashira. Gyomei's incredible speed was put on display during his fight against Kokushibo, where he was able to easily move his body around to avoid a majority of his attacks, with the Upper Rank even remarking that the belying ease and grace that he moved with was almost too absurd to believe.[24] Gyomei was also able to keep up with Kokushibo for the entire duration of the fight, putting pressure on him with the help of Sanemi, Muichiro, and Genya. Later, he was capable of keeping up with the blistering movement speeds of the Demon King himself, Muzan, for a good portion of the fight. 

   Gyomei persisting despite suffering from multiple severe injuries. Immense Stamina & Endurance: Gyomei possesses tremendous levels of physical endurance and stamina, so much so that his training during Hashira Training focused on strengthening the body for improved endurance and defensive capabilities. He was able to nonchalantly stand on ground that was on fire while carrying two massive logs being further weighted down by four large rocks, even calmly explaining the details of his training to Tanjiro and Zenitsu while doing so. He also displayed his superhuman levels of stamina and endurance during the fight against Kokushibo, where he was able to hold off the Upper Rank for the entire duration of the fight without significantly tiring on top of sustaining deep cuts all over his body.[25][26] Even after getting one of his legs slashed off by Muzan, Gyomei was able to persist and continue contributing to the fight against the Demon King.

Immense Strength: Gyomei possesses the greatest level of physical strength in the entire Demon Slayer Corps, most notably showcased when he is able to easily lift and swing his massive spiked flail and axe constructed from pure iron at speeds faster than the eye can see incessantly to thwart the attacks of Kokushibo. He was also able to push a large boulder bigger than him through a town with his bare hands.[27] Gyomei also nonchalantly endured the weight of two massive logs on his back further weighed down with four large rocks. According to Gyomei, he was naturally born with the gift of his incredulous physical strength, as shown when he subdued a demon that attacked him when he was a skinny teenager by beating it to a bloody pulp with nothing but his bare hands prior to him joining the Demon Slayer Corps and undergoing training, but he did not know he had it in himself until he was forced to fight for his life.[28]

   Supernatural Abilities Enhanced Hearing: Due to being blind, Gyomei has compensated and alternated his senses to adapt to his condition, effectively developing an extremely heightened sense of hearing. His sense of hearing was so acute that Gyomei can accurately discern and interact with his surroundings normally, even engaging in high-speed combat with demons without trouble. More impressively, Gyomei was able to hear the sound of Muzan Kibutsuji's flesh regeneration during their brief confrontation and used it to determine that he is unlike any demon he has ever faced based solely on the sound the Demon King gave off.[29] Later during his battle with Upper Rank One, Kokushibo noted that Gyomei uses the sound of his chains rattling to tell the exact position the chain is in and uses that to guide his axe and flail during combat.[30] As seen during his conversation with Kokushibo regarding the Demon Slayer Mark, Gyomei was able to accurately tell that the he was lying by detecting the slight changes of the sound his body, with Gyomei noting that he heard the latter shake after revealing his deception.

   Fighting Style

   

   Gyomei's prowess and proficiency with a kusarigama enables him to deflect Muzan's attacks. Kusarigamajutsu: Unlike ordinary Demon Slayers who use swords in combat, Gyomei uses a spiked flail and axe reminiscent of a Kusarigama, a weapon consisting of a scythe and heavy iron weight connected with a metal chain, and thus would use a similar fighting style known as Kusarigamajutsu. As a Hashira, Gyomei is extremely proficient in combat and one of the most skilled combatants in the entire Demon Slayer Corps, particularly in this fighting style which can briefly match the likes of Upper Rank One, Kokushibo, a demon swordsman who has nearly five centuries of swordsmanship experience. Moreover, he was also shown to be able to hold off Muzan and his blisteringly fast whips for an extended period of time, using his spiked flail to deliver powerful blows to the Demon King. Breathing Style Stone Breathing (岩いわの呼こ吸きゅう, Iwa no kokyū?): A Breathing Style Gyomei either mastered himself or learned from a cultivator. In his own version of this Breathing Style, Gyomei incorporates his superhuman sense of hearing and physical strength to utilize a spiked flail and axe to use its techniques. As the Stone Hashira, Gyomei is his generation's most skilled Stone Breathing user. He displayed mastery of Stone Breathing in his battle against Kokushibo, where he was able to unleash attacks that were able to match the demon's Moon Breathing. ADVERTISEMENT Techniques • First Form: Serpentinite Bipolar (壱いちノ型かた　蛇じゃ紋もん岩がん・双そう極きょく, Ichi no kata: Jamongan - Sōkyoku?)[31]- The user throws both the flail and axe towards their intended target and manipulates the chain by rotating it thus causing the axe and flail to also rotate in order to drill and grind right through their target. • Second Form: Upper Smash (弐にノ型かた　天てん面めん砕くだき,Ni no kata: Tenmen Kudaki?)[32] - The user throws both their axe and spiked flail for a pincer move before stepping down on the chain to increase the attack's speed and potency and cause the flail to then rebound and smash into their target from afar. • Third Form: Stone Skin (参さんノ型かた　岩がん軀くの膚はだえ,San no kata: Ganku no Hadae?) [33] - The user unleashes a series of slashes with their axe deflecting nearby attacks. • Fourth Form: Volcanic Rock, Rapid Conquest(肆しノ型かた　流りゅう紋もん岩がん・速そく征せい, Shi no kata: Ryūmongan - Sokusei?)[34] - The user manipulates both the flail and axe weapons at both ends of the chain by swinging the chain on both sides in order to strike their opponent using a two pronged wide ranged attack. • Fifth Form: Arcs of Justice (伍ごノ型かた　瓦が輪りん刑ぎょう部ぶ, Go no kata: Garin Gyōbu?)[35] - The user utilizes a powerful barrage with their flail and axe, doing a great amount of damage. The axe is destined to hit first with the trajectory of the flail following from the opposite side and slamming into the opponent. ADVERTISEMENT Game Exclusive Techniques • Third Form: Stone Skin, Deva (参さんノ型かた　岩がん軀くの膚はだえ・金剛こんごう, San no kata: Ganku no Hadae - Kongō?)[36] - An offensive variant of Stone Skin. After knocking their opponent with their flail, the user sends both flail and axe towards them, leaps in the air, similar to Serpentinite Bipolar, and performs Stone Skin, but instead of the omnidirectional barrage of attacks deflecting attacks from the user, it instead is concentrated in the direction of their target, striking them from multiple angles. They then finish by hurling their axe next to the now grounded opponent, and diving down in their direction with the flail at their feet, crushing the target with their own weight. • Earth-Shattering Morningstar (地じめ鳴いき強ょう投とう,Jimei Kyōtō?)[36] - The user hurls their flail at the target, and then immediately pulls it back and hurls their axe at them. • Raging Boulder (巌がん突とつ転てん進しん, Gantatsu Tenshin?)[36] - The user moves towards their target, swings their flail at them, jumps up and spins around to hurl the flail towards them again, and finally twirls their weapon around 360° horizontally to hit them with both flail and axe, all in quick succession. • Dance of Divine Protection (仁に王おう舞まい, Niō Mai?)[36] - A move virtually identical to Stone Skin.The user rapidly twirls and swings the chain around them to unleash an omnidirectional flurry of attacks with both the flail and axe, to both block and counter enemy attacks from all directions at once, and bombard the opponent with a flurry of blows. • Demolishing Blow (撥はね潰つぶし, Hane Tsubushi?)[36] - Similar to Upper Smash, the user hits their opponent with their flail and axe several times, before twirling the flail around and hurling it downwards, smashing the target. • Seismic Burst: Pincer (岩いわ砕くだき・挟きょう撃げき,Iwakudaki - Kyōgeki?)[36] - The user charges forward before cleaving their opponent's torso with their axe and swinging them into the air, sending them flying alongside multiple stones which hit the target in their path. The user then twirls the flail clockwise with enough speed and strength to create a suction force which drags the opponent and the various debris back, before hurling the flail at the opponent, violently hitting them by the spiked ball midair. • Master and Disciple (師し匠しょうと弟で子し, Shishō to Deshi?)[36] - A technique exclusive to Gyomei and his protégé Genya Shinazugawa. Genya shoots their opponent using his shotgun before Gyomei hurls his axe and launches them skywards. After the axe flies back towards Gyomei, Genya grabs hold of the chain and is sent upwards as Gyomei hurls his flail at the opponent, with the Demon Slayer shooting his target as the chain circles around them mid-air. Gyomei then strikes the ground with his axe and tosses up a massive boulder, which Genya grabs hold of and positions directly on top of their target. As they falls to the ground, the target is crushed by both the boulder and Gyomei's flail shattering it.

6. #6Obanai

   Obanai is a young man of short stature, pale skin complexion, and a lean, muscular build. He has straight-edged raven-black hair of varying lengths, the longest reaching down to his shoulders and the shortest stopping at his cheekbones, which he wears down with two shorter strands hanging between his eyes. His eyes are almond-shaped and tilted upwards on the far sides, and are unique colored due to Obanai possessing heterochromia. Due to this, his right eye is yellow with a black pupil, and his left eye is teal. He is partially blind, barely able to see out of his right eye.[4] Obanai's mouth is usually hidden with white bandages over his lower face to hide his large facial scars, which were the result of his family horrifically cutting open his mouth to resemble that of a snake's gape.[5] Obanai wears the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform, which is black in the manga and tinted a deep koamaru color in the anime. The uniform consists of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, adorned with gold buttons, a shirt pocket on the left breast, and the kanji for Destroy(滅めつ, Metsu?) engraved on the back of the uniform. Beneath the jacket, he wears a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. The uniform is fastened at the waist with a white belt and paired with traditional tattsuke-hakama pants in the same koamaru hue. Over his uniform, Obanai wears his signature black-and-white vertically striped haori, with the hem and cuffs are striped horizontal ways rather than vertically, which covers his hands. For legwear, instead of the standard kyahan, Obanai wraps his lower legs in white bandages, giving the visual impression of traditional kyahan wraps. He also wears another set of white bandages around his lower face. His footwear consists of white zōri sandals with purple-blue straps, worn over koamaru-colored tabi socks to match the color tint of his uniform. He is also always seen with his white snake, Kaburamaru, wrapped around his shoulders. During the battle with Muzan, Obanai and the other remaining Hashira are attacked by the demon's flailing whips, and Obanai is left with three long slanted scratches over his eyes, rendering him completely blind.[6] When he was a child, Obanai had waist-length hair that he wore tied down his back with a long white bandage and a regular-looking mouth before it was cut by his family to resemble the Serpent Demon, worshipped by his clan. He also wore a plain white kimono.

   Obanai is a very harsh and strict individual who shows no concern for those who do not abide by the rules of the Demon Slayer Corps. His expectations for his fellow Demon Slayers are quite unrealistic, as he was seen berating Tengen Uzui for suffering heavy wounds against the lowest Upper Rank whom he called the "weakest" and telling him to "fight to the death" after Tengen insists on retiring. Tengen's retirement also highlights Obanai's devotion to the future of the Demon Slayer Corps. He does this often at others' expense such as when he tied up lower-ranked Demon Slayers and used them as obstacles during Hashira Training - all for relatively petty reasons. He also sees the newer Demon Slayer recruits as weak and incapable of improvement, expressing extreme surprise when Tengen informs him that Tanjiro Kamado survived the battle with Daki and Gyutaro. Obanai has a rather prominent habit of pointing at people with his finger in an accusatory manner while berating or talking unfavorably about someone. Despite his merciless personality, there are people he cares deeply about: Kagaya Ubuyashiki and the other Hashira . He used to have a crush on Mitsuri, and he often let his feelings shine through by sharing meals with her and giving her gifts, however he eventually got over them and valued her as a friend and like a sister.. Obanai seems to let his overprotectiveness of Mitsuri show at times, such as when he threatens Tanjiro for growing too close to her. Talking with her also made him forget all the strife and conflict he had encountered during his past, making him feel as if he were an ordinary person.[8] Like all the Hashira, Obanai has a great deal of respect for Kagaya. Obanai is noted to possess an immense sense of self-loathing due to the fact that he was born to a selfish and immoral clan who would mercilessly sacrifice even newborns to a demon for their own monetary gain. Obanai considers himself and his family so tainted, that years after the other members were killed, he still felt as if his family were digging their nails into his skin to make sure he couldn't go anywhere.[9] He even goes as far as to believe that, in order for him to ever be worthy of Mitsuri, he would first have to die and cleanse himself of his corrupted blood before ever confessing his feelings to her.[9] His upbringing also seems to be the cause of his gynophobia since he was born into a family of only women who treated him like a tool. The trauma of his past can also be seen in the form of his facial bandages that he dons to cover the terrible scars he received, never removing it until the final battle. In addition to the horrible treatment he received from his family, of being treated as a mere tool and sacrifice, Obanai was deeply affected by the words of resentment and hatred from his only surviving cousin when she said that the entire family died simply because he ran away. Although he recognized that her grudge and words were illogical, he chose to accept that he was at fault and even considered himself as corrupt as his family was, believing he was not worthy to live a normal life. This shows that despite the various unpleasant traits of his personality, Obanai actually has a conscience and morals, unlike his family. Obanai has an incredible sense of determination, continuing the fight against Muzan even after he is completely blinded and covered in wounds. His ability to protect Giyu and Tanjiro throughout the fight, as well as thanking Tanjiro for helping him, and later even took a blow for him proves that Obanai was able to drop his initial grudges and become more open with people he was rude to in the past. As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Obanai is a very powerful and skilled combatant.[10] It was revealed that he was more or less blind in his right eye, meaning he ascended to the highest rank in the Demon Slayer Corps with only a single functioning eye. This, in addition to his small physique and inferior physical strength when compared to his peers, made it especially impressive that Obanai managed to ascend to the title of Hashira. During the events in the Infinity Castle, Obanai was able to quickly decapitate numerous demons on par with Lower Ranks. King. Kaburamaru (鏑かぶら丸まる, Kaburamaru?): Obanai, having always been partially blind in his right eye, developed a combat technique utilizing his snake Kaburamaru. Kaburamaru possesses a unique ability that allows him to read and predict a target's attacks, then relay that information to Obanai.[11] The full extent of this technique is demonstrated when Obanai is completely blinded by Muzan, but he is still able to continue fighting effectively.[12] Kaburamaru also seems to be capable of understanding human speech and emotions. Enhanced Strength: Despite his short stature and lesser physical strength when compared to the other Hashira, Obanai still possesses a significant amount of muscle power, as shown when he pins Tanjiro to the ground to the point that he couldn't move or breathe.[20] During Hashira Training, he was seen being able to parry and attack Sanemi during their sparring session, causing them both to surmise that they were seemingly neck and neck.[21] He was also able to slash the body of Muzan Kibutsuji on a multitude of occasions. Obanai was also one of the only Demon Slayers able to turn his Nichirin Sword bright red through sheer grip strength, the other being Muichiro Tokito. Immense Speed & Reflexes: As a Hashira, Obanai possesses superhuman levels of speed and reflexes. When Tanjiro was about to get hit by what would likely have been a fatal strike from Muzan, Obanai managed to jump in and save him in time. He was capable of keeping up with Muzan Kibutsuji's whip attacks for an extended period of time without the boost granted by the Demon Slayer Mark. After awakening the mark, Obanai was fast enough to slice off both of Muzan's limbs. Even when completely blinded, Obanai was able to evade many of Muzan's attacks, pushing him into a corner, catching up to him and piercing his body while the Demom King was fleeing.[22] Immense Stamina & Endurance: Obanai has displayed his phenomenal stamina and endurance on multiple occasions during the events within the Infinity Castle and final battle. Obanai, along with Mitsuri, were able to play an exhausting game of cat and mouse with Upper Rank Four, Nakime for an extended period of time, retaining still enough energy to arrive to Tanjiro's and Giyu's aid. Master Swordsman: As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Obanai was one of the most powerful and skilled swordsmen in the entire organization.[23]This was shown during Hashira Training where he was entrusted to teach all the other Demon Slayers about sword wielding techniques. Obanai makes use of a unique swordsmanship style that utilizes slithering motions to twist and bend his sword and attack in unorthodox ways, allowing him to weave through narrow openings with ease.[24] His swordsmanship prowess allowed him to slaughter hordes of demons with ease and to keep up with the Demon King himself, Muzan Kibutsuji. Breathing Style Serpent Breathing (蛇へびの呼こ吸きゅう, Hebi no kokyū?): A Breathing Style Obanai created and mastered. This swordsmanship style makes use of twists and turns similar to how a serpent slithers to attack in strange ways. Obanai also learnt to incorporate his pet snake, Kaburamaru (鏑かぶら丸まる, Kaburamaru?), into this Breathing Style, extending his physical abilities. First Form: Winding Serpent Slash (壱いちノ型かた　委い蛇だ斬ぎり, Ichi no kata: Idagiri?)[25] - The user moves like a slithering snake and releases several slashes in a winding pattern. Equipment Twisted Nichirin Katana: Obanai carries around a heavily modified Nichirin katana similar in appearance to an Indonesian Kris, with the blade's shape modeled into a wavy blade that heavily resembles a slithering snake. It is lavender in color, with white outline. It also has a purple wavy pattern in the middle of the blade along with a white, snake-like line. His katana's tsuba has a gold circular shape engraved with two snakes connected by several plant-like patterns, and a purple boarder. His handle is lavender and decorated with a twisting wrap of purple cord, and a gold kashira.    Tengen is a very tall, broad-shouldered, and incredibly muscular man with lightly-tanned skin and white hair. His hair is of an uneven length, the longest strands reaching his shoulders, and is styled with three more notable, shorter clumps arching up to fall as bangs between his eyes and on either side of his face. He has thin, dark fuchsia eyes that appear to slant inwards, each with one long eyelash flowing to the far side of his face. He also painted his fingernails and toenails with claret and bright green color. He is considered very attractive as noted by many women and even by Zenitsu; this has led him to use his looks as a tool for his missions whenever persuasion is necessary. During his service as the Sound Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Tengen wore a highly customized, sleeveless version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform. His uniform was black in the manga and tinted a deep dark turquoise in the anime. It consisted of a sleeveless button-up jacket with a stand-up collar, gold buttons, and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ, Metsu?)engraved on the back of the uniform. Underneath, he wore a white sleeveless collared undershirt. The uniform was secured with a white belt at the waist and included matching tattsuke-hakama pants tucked into burgundy cloth wrappings around his calves. On his feet, he wore white zōri sandals with white straps and dark turquoise tabi socks to match his uniform. Tengen is accessorized flamboyantly, wearing two thick, golden rings around his upper arms and a pair of fingerless purple gloves. These gloves were secured with two silver bands around the middle fingers and fastened at the wrists with two thinner golden rings on each side. As well as this, Tengen sports a white head-wrap that covers his hair, leaving only a thin ponytail visible to fall behind his head from between its layers. Adorning his forehead was a striking pale gray headband, embellished with six pale pink gemstones—three large ones arranged in a horizontal row across the center, and three smaller ones arranged in a triangular formation on the far left side. From each side of this headdress hung chains of smaller pale blue gemstones, which framed his face like earrings or decorative tassels. Additionally, Tengen wore distinctive red eye makeup on his left eye, composed of alternating large and small dots that extended inward toward the corner of his eye. He also wears a pair of two golden cuff earrings on each ears. After his retirement from the Demon Slayer Corps due to the injuries he has sustained during his fight with Gyutaro, Tengen changes his appearance to coordinate the loss of his left eye and hand. He now wears a long, burgundy colored yukata with white yuban collar along a light purple obi tied around the waist, and an indigo blue haori. He also replaces his old head-wrap with a dark eyepatch adorned with what look to be the remaining gemstones left over from his old headdress, leaving his hair to fall loosely past his shoulders. In addition, a long scar from where Gyutaro's kama sliced his left eye is visible under his eyepatch. He also wears a pair of zōri. He is usually seen talking boastfully, proclaiming that he is "god" in front of Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke, even calling them trash and declaring that if he tells them to become dogs, they must become dogs, and if he tells them to become monkeys, they must become monkeys. Tengen even demands for the trio to always humor and stoop down to him, imploring him for favours and always doing their best to flatter him.[10]This was also shown in his initial encounter with Upper Rank Six, Gyutaro, proclaiming that he was in tip-top shape despite being severely poisoned.[11] However, Tengen does possess an extremely caring side that is masked under his flamboyant façade, one he only shows to those that are extremely close to him, most notably his three wives, Makio, Suma, and Hinatsuru, who Tengen is shown to truly love and care for, praising and encouraging Makio and Suma after their undercover mission[12] and assuring Hinatsuru that she has completed her mission and telling her to get out of harm's way.[13] Furthermore, Tengen also declares that they must value their lives above all others as they are precious to him. This is especially shown when Gyutaro gags Hinatsuru with his hand, Tengen panics and furiously yells at the demon to leave his wife alone. After the events in Yoshiwara, Tengen also becomes more friendly towards Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke. Although he can be very boastful and expressive, Tengen also shows a side of modesty and humility. He openly denied Gyutaro's statement that he was blessed with any talent, comparing himself to the other Hashira and especially Kyojuro Rengoku. This implicates a sort of inferiority complex, further proven by the fact that he told himself that he could never become someone as great as Kyojuro. Tengen is also shown to harbor regret over the fact that he has let so many lives slip through his fingers over the years. Kagaya Ubuyashiki praised Tengen for the hard path he chose and for facing forward and fought to protect human lives despite carrying all of his conflicts and contradictions he hides behind his loud and confident façade, which caused Tengen to deeply respect Kagaya from that moment on. Tengen has exceptional compassion with strong morality, which Kagaya acknowledged. Despite being a shinobi that has traditionally valued completing the mission over all else, Tengen has rejected that ideology after seeing its brutal effect on his family, despising his father for forcing him and his siblings to endure through brutal training and even pitting them against each other in a final lethal test.[4] He believes that his subordinates, whether they be his wives or the Demon Slayers under his command, should value their lives and the lives of innocents over their missions or his own.[14][15] Tengen especially hated the idea of becoming like his brother or father, who were apathetic towards human lives, wanting to desperately abandon what he was taught by them; even then, he choose to simply cut his ties instead of killing them due to his morality. He also chose to be a Demon Slayer to protect innocent people from being harmed by demons. Following his retirement, Tengen was brought in by the active Hashira to assess fitness and stamina during Hashira Training. Tengen would prove to be a strict teacher, frequently yelling and berating the trainees for their weaknesses and exhaustion, whilst also amusing himself by intimidating them. Despite this, he does genuinely care for his pupils, as Makio mentioned that he did not eat until the last trainee returned, even going so far as to search the mountain to find them should they get lost. Tengen himself claimed that because Kagaya entrusted the trainees in his care, he wasn't going to let them burn out. In addition, according to his wives, Tengen still has a desire to fight and that he calls out in his sleep, blaming himself for relinquishing his position in the Corps.[16] Despite this, Tengen remained retired and dutifully served as a bodyguard to Nezuko and Kiriya Ubuyashiki alongside Shinjuro Rengoku, where he would go on to give his compliments to the scon of his late mentor and friend Kagaya. As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Tengen is a very powerful and skilled combatant.[17] He has displayed incredible physical feats of strength and speed, being seen as the second physically strongest, and the fastest runner out of the Taisho era's Hashira.[3] He could match the combat proficiency of both Daki and Gyutaro, both Upper Rank demons that have fought and killed numerous Hashira in the past [18], as well as having over a century of combat experience. Tengen was also able to effortlessly decapitate Daki without her even perceiving his movements, which caused him to believe she was no Upper Rank demon at all.[19] Impressively, he was able to fend off the combined efforts of Daki and Gyutaro while being infected by a poison that would kill someone quickly under normal circumstances, even managing to protect bystanders in the process.[20] Tengen has also showcased great skill and precision in using explosives, minimizing damage dealt to the surroundings and maximizing the damage dealt to his opponents. Due to his shinobi training, Tengen has greater tactical skills and sharper senses than the average person,[21] most notably his sense of hearing, which helped him greatly during the course of the battle with Upper Six. Even after losing his left hand to Gyutaro, Tengen was able to fight the Upper Rank on even terms due to completing his Musical Score, allowing him to accurately predict and deflect Gyutaro's attacks, cut off his arm and pin him down at the cost of losing his left eye. Nonetheless, due to the poison circulating in his body, he was unable to attempt a finishing blow and needed Tanjiro to do so.[22] Indomitable Will: Tengen possesses an undaunted spirit and immense willpower, never faltering even when faced with disadvantages and difficult circumstances. Despite being poisoned in the beginning by Gyutaro, he boldly proclaimed he could fight just fine, even attacking both Daki and Gyutaro at the same time. He appeared to be ecstatic while deflecting multiple poison blood blades even with a missing hand and numerous cuts in his skin. Even when his left eye gets slashed out, he pushed through all the damage until the demons were defeated.[23] Shinobi Training: Before joining the Demon Slayer Corps and becoming a Hashira, Tengen descended from a family of shinobi.[24][25] Tengen received extremely harsh training that killed all of his siblings except for his younger brother, who became cold and heartless.[26] However, as a result of his intensive shinobi training, Tengen possesses great technical skill in weaponry such as kunai and explosives. His training also made him extremely pain tolerant and poison resistant, which saved him from Gyutaro's poison and allowed him to fight despite suffering numerous injuries and losing his hand. Enhanced Stealth: Tengen is extremely stealthy, moving so silently that he doesn't make a single sound nor disturb the air.[27] His stealth allowed him to evade the senses of both Tanjiro and Inosuke, both of which possessesing a heightened sense of smell and touch respectively. Later, Tengen was able to sneak up on and decapitate Daki, an Upper Rank demon, without her noticing.[19] Poison Resistance: As a former shinobi, Tengen has been shown to possess high resistance to poison to the point where he could continue fighting while under the effects of a poison from Gyutaro that would have killed someone instantly under normal circumstances.[25] Tactical Intellect: Due to accumulating close to two decades of experience as both a shinobi and Demon Slayer, Tengen has incredible judgement, making decisions on the fly while in battle with Upper Rank demons to protect bystanders and minimize the damage dealt to the surroundings. Even when he was held back by Gyutaro's poison, Tengen was able to properly determine the most efficient strategy to fight off the Upper Rank demons and even fooled Gyutaro into thinking he was dead by stopping his own heart to prevent himself from dying from his poison, which managed to give Tengen an edge against him as he then completed his Muscal Score Technique. Muscle Control: Tengen can control the physiology of his muscles to a great extent. During his battle with Gyutaro, Tengen used his muscles to stop his heart and temporarily prevent the poison from circulating, which also allowed him get the drop on Gyutaro, who did not pay him heed until he unexpectedly attacked the demon. Immense Speed & Reflexes: Tengen is said to be the fastest runner out of all the Hashira,[3] and possesses tremendous levels of raw speed and reflexes, often shown when he moves so fast he appears to appear and disappear without a trace.[31]His speed also far surpasses that of Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke, who were unable to keep up with, let alone perceive, the Hashira's blisteringly quick movements. Most notably, Tengen was fast enough to behead Daki, an Upper Rank demon, before she could even register what had happened.[19] Moreover, he could fend off both Daki and the true Upper Rank Six, Gyutaro, despite being held back by a deadly poison that would've killed someone quickly under normal circumstances. Even after relinquishing his position as the Sound Hashira, Tengen's tremendous speed remained apparent. During a training exercise where he played the role of a demon stalking the trainees, his speed and reflexes gave him a handy advantage as he downed the Demon Slayers one by one without any one of them even able to see him; only Tanjiro, who has previous experience with fighting Upper Ranks, could see him moving and read his attacks to retaliate, leading to a short skirmish between them.[16] Immense Stamina & Endurance: Due to his upbringing being raised to become a shinobi and his own father's increased attempts to revive their clan by forcing Tengen and his siblings to train even more harshly and painfully then necessary, Tengen developed inhuman resistance to pain, as seen where he bared little to no reaction at having being caught up in a hail of Kunai knives and being pierced by them without even flinching or showing any form of discomfort or pain, continuing to attack Gyutaro as if nothing had happened.[21] Later, Tengen was also noted to have suffered other severe injuries during the battle, such as getting his eye and hand slashed off by Gyutaro,[32][33] and managed to ignore the pain of such injuries as well. Even the Kakushi were shocked at Tengen's inhuman levels of endurance after the battle against Upper Six, when he was seen standing upright, and walking out of the rubble with minimal help from his wives. Immense Strength: Tengen possesses tremendous physical strength even amongst the Hashira, the strongest Demon Slayers of the Corps. He was ranked second in an arm-wrestling contest among all the Hashira, with only the hulking Gyomei Himejimasurpassing him. Tengen displayed his strength numerous times, as he was shown effortlessly carrying Aoi and Naho,[34] and soon after knocked Zenitsu and Inosuke unconscious with a single punch to the stomach.[35] Moreover, Tengen is able to fight at blistering speeds while carrying around his giant Nichirin cleavers, swinging them incessantly to fend off his opponents without much trouble and being able to hold both his enormous cleavers at their tip with only two fingers.[36] Furthermore, Tengen was able to match Gyutaro in strength with only one arm after his left hand was cut off, and while he was still poisoned.[37] In his role in overseeing the first stage of Hashira Training, Tengen once stopped a trainee from moving by just holding his wooden blade outstretched, despite the Demon Slayer attempting to budge with all his might. He was also able to initiate an intense spar with Tanjiro, who had undergone considerable development between his mission in Yoshiwara and Hashira Training. Enhanced Hearing: Tengen has a heightened sense of hearing similar to Zenitsu Agatsuma. This ability allows him to easily hear noises deep underground, and he uses it to immediately discern that there are channels of underground tunnels and caves directly beneath him when he was looking for Tanjiro Kamado and Daki. He also uses his superhuman hearing the monitor all the activity in Yoshiwara in an attempt to find the location of the demons dwelling in the area.[38] Tengen also used his hearing to discern whether people are still present on a floor in a building. Echolocation: As an advanced application of his hearing, Tengen also possesses echolocation. When trying to find the location of a battle underground, he analyzed the sounds reflected and resonated through the air by the walls of the caverns, and accurately locates and is even able to guess the number of people inside the tunnels by listening to the sound bouncing from their physical bodies.[39] Tengen's Musical Score in action. Musical Score (譜ふ面めん, Fumen?):[22] A technique Tengen developed using his heightened sense of hearing and battle analysis to work in conjunction with his Sound Breathing, where he analyzes combat maneuvers and deconstructs the rhythm of his enemies' attacks into sound, reading them like sheet music to the point every fight becomes like a song. This allows Tengen to gain an understanding of his opponent's habits and tactics, as well as their blind spots, giving him the edge against them. While it takes a long time for Tengen to construct the score, once completed, Tengen was able to fight Gyutaro on even terms despite having lost his left hand, but due to the poison he was pushed to the limit and was unable to strike at the Upper Rank's neck. Master Swordsman: As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Tengen is one of the most powerful and skilled swordsman in the entire organization.[40]Unlike most Demon Slayers, Tengen chooses to utilize a dual-wielding swordsmanship style with his Nichirin Cleavers, making use of a nunchucks-esque sword wielding style. Tengen displays his unique and extraordinary swordsmanship skills during his battlewith Daki and Gyutaro, being able to adapt to the former's incessant obi slashes and the latter's "mantis-like" fighting style, and go toe-to-toe with them for an extended period of time despite the Upper Rank having over a century of combat experience. Tengen can also use his sword wielding expertise in conjunction with his explosive beads with great synergy, making him all the more effective at fighting demons. He also showed the ability to wield his Nichirin Cleavers with only one arm.[33] In addition to traditional slashes and swings, Tengen has also been shown to spin his blades by their chain; the whirling motion allowing him to block blows and quickly attack in retaliation, with the blades in constant rapid motion. Breathing Style Sound Breathing (音おとの呼こ吸きゅう, Oto no kokyū?): A Breathing Style that Tengen created himself. Sound Breathing seemingly combines Tengen's heightened sense of hearing, his Musical Score (譜ふ面めん, Fumen?)technique, his shinobi expertise as well as his dual Nichirin cleavers and his anti-demon bombs. Techniques First Form: Roar (壱いちノ型かた　轟とどろき, Ichi no kata: Todoroki?)[41] - The user lifts their twin swords above their head and slams them down with great force, causing a loud sound resembling thunder as a result. Fourth Form: Constant Resounding Slashes(肆しノ型かた　響きょう斬ざん無む間けん, Shi no kata: Kyōzan Muken?)[42] - The user holds their twin swords apart and spins them rapidly around themselves, enabling the blades to destroy anything it makes contact with for powerful defensive capabilities around the user. It is stated that, until Tengen's fight with Upper Rank Six, no demon had ever survived a blow from them.[47] The cleavers' tsubas are round with four slight indentations. They are gold in color and decorated with a maroon ring that connects to the center; it has an outer green border. The handles are dark green, wrapped with red cord and capped with an engraved gold kashira; this is also where the chains connect to the cleavers. The blades are engraved with the phrase Destroyer of Demons (惡あっ鬼き滅めっ殺さつ, Akki Messatsu?). Due to his cleavers' large size, Tengen doesn't use a sword sheath and instead carries them on his back, having them wrapped in cloth. During the climax of the battle between the Upper Rank Six duo, the chains of his cleavers were broken in pieces.     Kanao is trained in Flower Breathing, a graceful and powerful technique derived from Water Breathing. Flower Breathing focuses on agile, flowing sword movements that mirror the natural forms of flowers and enhance precision and speed.

16. #16Kagaya

    Kagaya was a man of frail physicality, average stature, and very pale skin complexion. He had shoulder-length black hair that was parted in the middle. Due to his family curse, Kagaya looked as if he was rotting alive, with large portions of his skin appearing with a sickly, shriveled pink hue that began from the left side of his forehead and gradually spread across his body. Additionally, the curse caused him to go blind as it affected his eyes, turning his sclera from white to black (light purple in the anime) and his pupils from a dark purple to a light purple, matching his cursed skin. When he was first formally introduced in Tanjiro Kamado's trial, Kagaya's curse covered the upper half of his head, but during the last moments of his life only months later, the curse has spread to his entire body, leaving him covered completely with bandages apart from his mouth to speak.

    Muzan described him as physically repulsive and pitiful, as well as having the scent of a corpse. Additionally, during their meeting, Kagaya was nearly completely bedridden, having been confined to his household since the battle in Yoshiwara: even the act of getting up caused him great pain and he coughed blood trying to do so. He was also prone to bleeding from his mouth and eyes. Throughout all his appearances, Kagaya sported a gentle and relaxed smile that never wavered, always appearing serene and calm no matter the situation.

    While serving as Oyakata, he primarily wore a black yukata, with a white undershirt and tied with a weaved brown obi. Atop this, he wore a white kimono with a flame-like pattern appearing from the bottom and colored with a blend of light-purple and orange. He wore a pair of plain white socks, and a pair of sandals with brown straps. When meeting Muzan during the last moments of his life, Kagaya wore a wavy-striped kimono with a blend of light-purple and grey. Kagaya had a calm, dedicated, and composed demeanor, showing genuine care about the members of the Demon Slayers, whom he considered as his children. He was also able to handle criticism well and was honest about his weaknesses; one being his inability to become a Demon Slayer despite being their main leader. In order to make up for this, he remembered every single member of the Corps and visited the deceased members at their cemetery on a daily basis until he could no longer move due to his illness.

    While he may seem lenient, he only gives due consideration to reason and when a situation was clear of any biases, as shown when he willingly accepted the situation of Tanjiro and Nezuko through a letter from Sakonji Urokodaki, even defending their cause when most of the Hashira respectfully disagreed with his pardoning. His manner of speaking, while generally fluid and gentle, was extremely tactful and deliberate, using words and intonations in a way that the person he talked to would listen and wanted to listen to. His insightful and charismatic speech was even able to make the likes of the initially passive Muichiro Tokito and the impulsive Sanemi Shinazugawa listen to what he had to say without conveying anything that would rile them up.

    Towards his own kin, namely his children, Kagaya was rather strict. Due to the curse of their family, he had to prepare them early on to replace him in leading the Demon Slayers. It is also worth noting that Kagaya himself took the position as Oyakata following the suicide of his father at the mere age of four, and he was further plagued by the double-suicide of his siblings and their mother's accidental death in the process. Nevertheless, he shows the same gentle aura and demeanor towards them as he does to everyone. Beneath his otherwise kind and gentle personality, Kagaya bore a deep, burning hatred of Muzan Kibutsuji. As the cause for his family's cursed lives, he showed uncharacteristic silent anger towards the demon and addressed him without showing any indication of fear or hesitation. He repeatedly provoked him by mocking his intentions to become an eternal being and boldly stated that he would die, and in his final moments, he bore a smile on his face to lure Muzan into a false sense of security as his trap was activated. Despite his own hatred towards him, Muzan was amazed that Kagaya had hidden his bloodlust during their conversation and was shocked Kagaya was willing to kill his own family from his own perspective, having underestimated the lengths he would go to in order to weaken him. Kagaya possessed the remarkable ability to conceal his emotions and present a composed and controlled outward appearance. He utilized this skill to maintain a calm and serene composure and deceive others' perception of him. When Muzan, the target of Kagaya's deep-seated hatred, confronted him at his home, Kagaya presented himself with the serene smile of a Buddha, effectively masking any trace of murderous intent. By completely erasing his fighting spirit, animosity, and hatred, Kagaya successfully concealed his true intentions, luring Muzan into a trap. It was only when Kagaya sacrificed himself by detonating an explosive to ensnare Muzan that the demon realized the magnitude of Kagaya's hidden emotions; he likened Kagaya's concealed violent intent to a coiled viper lurking within his dark, lifeless stomach, leaving him in awe of Kagaya's astonishing ability to veil his true nature.[5]

    Soothing Voice: Kagaya possessed the ability to put others at ease just by the tone of his voice and rhythm of his actions, as he displayed with Tanjiro Kamado and even the angered Hashira.[6] In modern times, this attribute is called 1/F Fluctuation, and is said to be possessed by many charismatic people and have the strength of presence to move mass audiences.[6]

    Supernatural Abilities Extrasensory Perception: Kagaya possesses the ability to perceive the presence of both humans and demons, as well as determine their strength. This became evident during the Hashira meeting held after the events at Mount Natagumo. Despite becoming blind in both eyes due to the progression of his illness, Kagaya immediately sensed the presence of the number of individuals with Hashira-level power upon arrival and expressed his satisfaction that they all made it to the meeting without personnel changes.[7] Furthermore, when Muzan arrived at the Ubuyashiki Estate with the intention to kill him, Kagaya immediately detected Muzan's presence and greeted him, even when his eyes were completely covered by bandages and Muzan was still standing at a distance outside of the estate, showcasing his extraordinary sensory abilities. agaya, as well as the rest of the Ubuyashiki family, possess a heightened level of foresight that helps them avoid disastrous situations and amassed them a great amount of wealth and fortune. Due to this instinct, Kagaya accurately made several guesses about multiple things that were eventually proven to be true and accurate without him knowing any prior information, as seen when he accurately predicted that Muzan's only remaining weakness was the sun and that he could not be destroyed by decapitation,[9] that the deaths of Gyutaro and Daki would send waves that would eventually see that the Upper Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki begin losing members for the first time in hundreds of years, and that Muzan will find him and bring about the final war between Demon Slayer Corps and the Twelve Kizuki during his last five days of life.

17. #17Amane

    Amane was a woman of average height and pale skin complexion in contrast with her red lips. She possessed large, plum purple eyes (with pink eyeshadow) and short eyebrows, a trait seen in her children. She wore her white hair down and swept to both the left and right at the front and in a short ponytail in the back, with two strands of hair loose at the side of her head. Her beauty was apparent as Muichiro Tokito once described her as appearing like a forest spirit when they first met, and Mitsuri Kanroji, being asked to speak by Amane, took the chance to admire her beauty.

    Amane wore a salmon-colored kimono with an ombre to orange at the top with flower patterns with a dark-indigo haori with numerous blue butterfly-patterns. She also wore a brown with a paler shade striped-obi with an orange obiage supporting it.

    Personality Amane was shown to possess the same quiet, strict and serious disposition as her husband and children, acting professionally and tactfully when communicating with the Hashira during her time filling in for husband when his health began to fail. She was shown to be just as devoted to the Demon Slayer Corps as her husband and children as well, and spared no time in trying to figure out anything that could be used to turn the tide of battle in to their favor.

    As well as this, Amane has been shown to truly love and care for her husband, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, and is seen constantly nursing him and staying by his side as his body slowly began to fail and his health further worsened. In fact, the only time Amane dropped her usual controlled demeanor was when Kagaya's health began to severely plummet and he began to cough out blood, causing her to immediately panic and worry as she barked out orders for her children to help her treat him, showing a genuine sense of love between them. During a moment alone with him, Kagaya held her hand and thanked her for everything she has done, causing her to quietly cry and return his sentiment. When her husband's health begins to fail, Amane shows herself to be a highly competent leader and military commander, having been able to fill in for her husband in his duties as Corps Commander for the Demon Slayer Corps during the final days of his life. This is seen when Amane possesses the necessary skills to direct and lead the Hashira themselves despite their extreme personalities and dispositions.

    Medical Skills: Amane has also demonstrated to be a highly skilled in medicine, being married to Kagaya as his nurse and caregiver. This is seen where she is the one primarily in charge of treating her husband’s illness and caring for his ailing body from his ancestral curse. Amane later further showcased her medical skills when she managed to treat and successfully saved a near death Muichiro Tokito after he was severely injured fighting and killing his first demon prior to joining the Demon Slayer Corps.

18. #18Kokushibo

    Kokushibo is a tall man with a muscular build, and a pale skin complexion. He possesses long, spiky black hair with red tips that he keeps in a ponytail, along with two shoulder-length, flowing, wavy bangs on each side that reaches to his collarbone. His most notable feature is the three sets of eyes on his face with yellow irises and red flesh sclera that have black, straight lines diverging from each iris. His middle set of eyes has the kanji of "Upper Rank (上じょう弦げん Jōgen?)" on engraved on his left eye, and daiji for "One (壱いち Ichi?)" on his right, while his other sets of eyes feature black pupils and a cracked pattern in the irises. His top set of eyes replaced his eyebrows. Kokushibo also has red markings resembling flames for his Demon Slayer Mark on the top left side of his forehead that extended down to his left temple, and the bottom right of his cheek down to his right side of his neck. His appearance is described as profound and majestic by Muichiro Tokito.[8]

    Kokushibo wears a purple-and-black hexagonal-patterned nagagi kimono and black umanori-styled hakama pants tied with a white uwa-obi, and wears a pair of zōri with purple straps and white tabi socks. He carries a fleshy katana at his waist that has eyes in the space between the tsuka ito wrapping of the handle of his sword. The tsuba and blade are shown to have eyes and veins. The scabbard is also fleshy in appearance.

    As a human, Kokushibo's look was almost identical to his demon form, except for the number of eyes, his eminent eyebrows, and his less paler skin. As a human, his eyes had dim purple irises and normal, white sclera. As a child, he was normally seen wearing a white kimono, as opposed to the purple-and-black-patterned one he's seen wearing as an adult. He also tied his hair in a short ponytail, unlike Yoriichi who wore his loose.

    Due to being identical twins, Kokushibo greatly resembled his brother Yoriichi. However, besides their clothing, the biggest way to distinguish the twins was their hair texture; Kokushibo has spikier and thicker hair in comparison to his brother's thinner and curlier hair.

    After being beheaded by Sanemi Shinazugawa and Gyomei Himejima, Kokushibo evolves into a more grotesque and monstrous form, with protruding fangs and mandibles, large, uneven white horns on the front and back of his head, pointed nails, red outgrowths on his face, his pupils looking in different directions, shorter and messier hair, several thin tubes poking out of his body, pinkish-red tendrils on his back, and numerous black and red scorpion tail-like appendages haphazardly sprouting all across his entire body. Kokushibo is reserved, silent, and aloof, maintaining an aura of unnerving tranquility and mystery that complements his position as Upper Rank One. He rarely speaks; when he does, he talks in a slow and emphatic manner that gives more gravitas and authority to his words. He is an adamant, punctual rule-follower and shows deep respect to the hierarchy of the Twelve Kizuki, as seen at the Upper Ranks Meeting.[9] Kokushibo is shown to be humble as well, and isn't hesitant to admit his failure or complain of any difficulty. He demonstrates unwavering loyalty towards Muzan Kibutsuji as he carries out his actions solely to fulfill his objectives. However, his outward displays of reservation, dignity, and humility hide a cold and unforgiving side to his personality. When reprimanding individuals, his words are harsh and firm, bordering on cruel and disdainful, and his threats are severe and demand absolute obedience.

    Kokushibo is shown to be genuinely delighted when the opponents he faced challenged him, such as helping dress Muichiro Tokito's amputated hand over his talented swordsmanship, praising Gyomei Himejima and Sanemi Shinazugawa for their unparalleled human abilities, and sparing Akaza because he enjoyed the challenge of battling him. It is also worth noting that the only time the demon visibly smiled was when he examined the Stone Hashira's impeccably strong physique, in genuine awe at his strength and showing excitement at the prospect of facing a warrior of extremely high caliber. However, due to this selective respect for those he considered worthy, he also felt irritation after he realized Akaza had died by suicide, and he pities Gyomei for his impending death from unlocking his Demon Slayer Marks. Having abandoned his humanity in the pursuit of strength, Kokushibo shows a scornful view on humans and their values. Following Akaza's self-inflicted defeat, he scorned him as "exceedingly weak" for abandoning his existence as a demon to reconcile with his lost humanity in death. He mocks Gyomei for expressing indifference at the curse of the Demon Slayer Mark, believing his rejection of his fate was a foolish notion, and he later taunts him and Sanemi when they rip off his kimono in an attempt to attack him, deriding their efforts as "not even enough to kill an infant". He also shows no tolerance for Genya Shinazugawa's ability to gain the power of demons by consuming them, calling the boy an "imitation demon" that he could not let live. He shows something of warmth towards his descendant, Muichiro, commending his skills and resolve and being moved to offer Muichiro a chance to become a demon. When their battle comes to an end, Kokushibo expressed regret at having struck down his descendant.[10] At the same time, he refers to Muichiro and his abilities as the natural result of his cells being passed down. Throughout his life, Kokushibo was shown to be a man that greatly valued the concept of legacy. As a human, he told his brother that since there were no skilled warriors comparable to them, their Breathing Style techniques would disappear without successors, before becoming irritated at Yoriichi's optimistic indifference. When he realized that those that had awakened their Demon Slayer Mark died before reaching the age of 25 and grew worried that he was without a future, he accepted Muzan's offer to become a demon to further perfect his techniques. Even as a demon, this is shown when he is pleased that his lineage lived on through Muichiro, and he tells Gyomei that his body and techniques would go to waste because of his mark in an attempt to accept becoming a demon. Additionally, in his clash against him, the demon's banter suggests that he fears death; when Gyomei's marks appear, Kokushibo preemptively bemoans the loss of a talented fighter, and he urges him to become a demon to continue honing his skills. He seemed surprised when Gyomei vehemently rejected his offer and called his mentality pathetic. He possesses a complex relationship with his human past. It is revealed that, as a human, Kokushibo, then Michikatsu, pitied Yoriichi during the period of time when he was mute, viewing him as a meek and callow boy dependent on his mother. He gifted him a flute to use when he needed his brother, and smiled at him despite being bruised from his father's beatings. However, he later harbored an immense sense of envy towards his younger twin brother for his natural talent and incredible abilities. These feelings of jealousy and contempt only became stronger upon seeing his brother become a peerless warrior of unmatched caliber among even the Demon Slayer Corps, with none of the Hashira coming close to his level of strength.

    This fostered a drive to become as strong or surpass his brother, a sentiment so strong that he abandoned his family to pursue becoming a Demon Slayer, and later, into a demon. His envy peaks when he discovers that Yoriichi is still alive and in old age, completely surpassing the curse of the Demon Slayer Marks that killed anyone that awakened them before they turned 25. Even centuries later, Yoriichi's immunity to the curse haunted Kokushibo, and the usually phlegmatic demon would become rattled when Gyomei inadvertently reminded him of Yoriichi by accusing him of lying about the curse having no exceptions. However, despite this immense jealousy, spite, and outright hatred he harbors for Yoriichi, he still deeply cares for his brother, as seen when he was touched by Yoriichi treasuring the handmade flute he had made for him as a child; Kokushibo sheds tears over his brother's death and even goes as far as keeping the flute itself for the following centuries as a memento.

    Kokushibo's fear of defeat stems from his inferiority complex and desire for strength. This fear causes him to become increasingly aggressive and desperate in battle, relying on his demon powers, and even killing and dismembering Muichiro despite his earlier to desire to turn him into a demon. However, as he faces off against the Hashira, Kokushibo realizes the heavy cost of his pursuit of strength. Becoming a grotesque monster, far from his idealized vision of becoming the strongest samurai, highlighted how much his ambitions and resentment have twisted him.

    In his final moments, he is filled with sorrow and rage, lamenting his life choices upon seeing he hasn't achieved his goals and questioning if the path he chose was truly the right one. He realizes that his desire for a legacy had been for naught and he had ended up accomplishing nothing in his centuries of existence. As he disintegrates, Kokushibo highlights that he just wanted to become as strong and honoured like Yoriichi, showing that who he despised the most was also someone he looked to as an idealized paragon to shape his life by. In the end, he angrily asks his deceased brother why he was even born, expressing his frustration at not achieving his desires. As the highest-ranking member of the Twelve Kizuki, Kokushibo is an extraordinarily powerful demon, second only to the Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji himself. He has battled countless Demon Slayers and has amassed vast experience and knowledge over his nearly 500-year-long life. His abilities have been refined to the highest level, as he is not only a master of Total Concentration Breathing, but also a Marked individual who has gained access to the Transparent World, as well as the demon that possesses the highest concentration of Muzan's blood amongst the Upper Ranks.[12]

    His overwhelming power is first displayed when he slashes off Upper Rank Three, Akaza's arm, before he could even react, and it is later stated by Doma that Akaza would never be able to surpass the both of them despite having improved his skills for 113 years prior to their meeting.[13] During his battle in the Infinity Castle, Kokushibo effortlessly overwhelmed the Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito, a prodigious Demon Slayer who singlehandedly defeated Upper Rank Five and had awakened his Demon Slayer Mark mid-battle, Gyokko. Later in the clash, he easily slices off Muichiro's hand before he can react and is able to catch his sword mid-swing before proceeding to stab him with it.[14]

    Genya Shinazugawa, who played a major role in the defeat of Upper Rank Four, Hantengu, also stood no chance against him and was sliced to pieces without resistance.[15] Although the Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa, was able to fair better than the former two due to his greater experience and capabilities, he too was quickly overpowered when Kokushibo exerted himself, making deep cuts all over the Hashira's body.[16] Even when Gyomei Himejima arrived and momentarily stalled the battle with his own tremendous power and potent weaponry, Kokushibo quickly forced the Stone Hashira to use his Demon Slayer Mark. As further testament to his power, Kokushibo could simultaneously hold back Gyomei and Sanemi, even when the latter also awakened his own Demon Slayer Mark. Ultimately, it took the combined effort and full abilities of all four Demon Slayers—the three Hashira with their Marks and Genya empowered with a portion of Kokushibo's own power—to even land a significant injury on him. Moreover, Gyomei and Muichiro also needed to see into the Transparent World. Despite that, the only way that the Demon Slayers could win was to immobilize him, which took the lives of Muichiro and Genya, the former sacrificing himself to leave Kokushibo in the open and the latter needing to utilize a new Blood Demon Art to restrain the Upper Rank.[18][19] Even then, the Demon Slayers were still met with resistance due to Kokushibo's very high durability and needed to turn their blades bright red in order to behead him.

    Despite all that, he managed to regrow his head through sheer will, making him virtually invincible with the exception of the sun.[20] Kokushibo's demise is left up to interpretation. It can be argued that Kokushibo only fell due to the realization of how ugly he had become in his pursuit of strength, causing him to lose the will to fight and hence forcefully stopped his own regeneration. Alternatively, it can also be argued that Kokushibo did not lose the will to fight, but only lost because he could not regenerate nor fight back in the first place, and not because he lost the will to fight.[21]

    All in all, Kokushibo's defeat required the combined efforts of three powerful Marked Hashira (two of which awakened the Transparent World), the usage of Bright Red Blades, and a Demon Slayer capable of using a Blood Demon Art. Even then, the battle was narrowly won and cost the lives of two combatants, Muichiro and Genya, a feat that truly exemplifies the might of Upper Rank One.

    Indomitable Will: Stemming solely from his goal to surpass his younger twin brother Yoriichi, Kokushibo possesses tremendous willpower and an indomitable spirit. Despite his decapitation at the hands of Gyomei and Sanemi, he forced his regeneration to evolve and regrew his own head, all because he didn't allow himself to die until he accomplished his goal. As a talented swordsman who has existed for nearly five centuries, Kokushibo has experienced countless battle situations and threats, which he has learned to overcome. This was displayed during his battle with three Marked Hashira and a demon-enhanced Demon Slayer, where he was able to adapt to their unique fighting styles and tactics almost instantly after witnessing it.[23] After Muichiro unleashed his first attack against the Upper Rank, he was able to determine he was a user of Mist Breathing.[24] This was further accentuated through Kokushibo being able to take on Sanemi and Gyomei simultaneously despite both of them being Marked and being users of different Breathing Styles, meaning he’d have to deal with two vastly different opponents at once, which he did so successfully, even overwhelming them multiple times. Kokushibo possesses the ability to absorb human and demon bodies through physical contact. Although this trait has never been displayed, it was stated that Kokushibo would absorb the demons that challenged him and were defeated.[1] He presumably used this method as a faster alternative of consuming humans as well.

    Flesh Manipulation: Like all demons, Kokushibo possesses the ability to manipulate his own flesh to a high degree. In terms of changing his body, he can alter his face to posses two more pairs of eyes while also elongating his forehead. Most notoriously, he uses this ability to create an extremely durable and sharp katana, complete with a tsuba, a tsuka, and its own scabbard. Because of this, his katana can never be destroyed, as he can regenerate it like he would with normal wounds.[27] He also displayed the ability to grow and protrude dozens of blades from his body, allowing him to perform a multitude of slashes from them without a swinging motion. Sword Manipulation: Due to his katana being made of his own living flesh, Kokushibo is able to easily regenerate parts of the blade should it be destroyed or damaged, which was shown numerous times when the blade returns to its original shape when Gyomei or Sanemi damaged it with their attacks.[29][27] Furthermore, he can freely manipulate the shape of the blade, as shown when he grew three additional blades from the original blade to increase its reach and size, turning it into a weapon similar to the Shichishito (Seven-Branched Sword).[30] Immense Regeneration: Kokushibo possesses one of the most powerful regenerative abilities in existence, second only to the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji. His regeneration speed is even faster than Akaza and Doma, regrowing his ear[31] and right shoulder[32] effortlessly.

    Decapitation Immunity: After being decapitated by two marked Hashira, Kokushibo, through sheer force of will, was able to regenerate his entire head and successfully conquer death from a decapitation via Nichirin Swords,[33] a feat considered impossible for demons and only accomplished by two other demons: Akaza and the Demon King himself.[34] However, while the speed at which he regrew his head was far faster than the former, his regeneration after being decapitated became unstable, causing him to take on a monstrous visage.[33] At this state, he was only killed after being decapitated once more due to losing his will to live and his inability to use any technique with his lack of blood.[35] Monstrous Transformation: After regrowing his head while battling Gyomei and Sanemi, Kokushibo undergoes a transformation that causes him to take on a more monstrous and grotesque form, with protruding fangs and mandibles, large white horns on the front and back of his head, pointed nails, red outgrowths on his face, his pupils looking in different directions, shorter and messier hair, several thin tubes poking out of his body, and numerous black and red scorpion tail-like appendages haphazardly sprouting all across his entire body.[33] Kokushibo states that any attacks thrown at him in this state would be meaningless, and that the sun would be the only way to defeat him.[20]

    Demon Slayer Abilities Demon Slayer Mark: Kokushibo awakened his Mark when he trained under Yoriichi.[36] The Demon Slayer Mark drastically improves the abilities of an individual, making them much stronger and faster than what they can achieve normally, though at the cost of being cursed to die at the age of 25. However, by turning into a demon and gaining immortality, Kokushibo is no longer bound by the curse.

    Transparent World: Kokushibo has the ability to access the Transparent World, allowing him to see the muscles, blood flow, and joint movements of his opponents,[37] as well as accurately predict and anticipate their movements and attacks. Through this ability, he was able to identify Muichiro as his descendant,[6] immediately discern that Genya consumed demons to gain strength, as well as determine Muichiro, Sanemi, and Gyomei's strength, even being able to tell that the latter two's bodies and techniques are at their peak. Immense Durability: Due to having an extremely high concentration of Muzan's blood,[40] Kokushibo possesses incredibly high durability. His neck is so resistant that a Marked Sanemi barely succeeded in cutting him despite swinging his sword with all his might. Immense Speed & Reflexes: Kokushibo possesses immense levels of speed far surpassing that of the other Upper Ranks, as first shown when he slashed off Akaza's arm before he, or any of the other demons present, realized.[43] Later on, when he departed from the Upper Rank Meeting following his reprimanding of Akaza, Kokushibo appeared as if he wisped out of view.[44] He displays his phenomenal speed on multiple occasions while fighting. Firstly, he is able to effortlessly outpace Muichiro's Mist Breathing techniques.[45] Muichiro even remarked that Kokushibo's speed was phenomenal compared to his own, despite his abilities being amplified by his Demon Slayer Mark.[46] When Genya fires his shotgun at the Upper Rank from a distance, Kokushibo manages to suddenly appear behind him before the pellets could reach where he initially was, before slicing his arm off the moment he arrived.[47] He then slashes off his other arm and his torso so quickly, his arm doesn't even appear to move. In his clash with Sanemi, Kokushibo could easily keep up with the Wind Hashira's techniques and movements, despite Sanemi exerting himself to the limit in order to stay alive.[49] When he uses his brother's shotgun to shoot at the Upper Rank, Kokushibo is quick enough to block the pellets even when it is fired point-blank.[50] After feeling the need to try harder, Kokushibo subdues the Wind Hashira with a single technique that he couldn't evade in time, delivering numerous cuts and slashes all across his body.[16] Even against Gyomei, the strongest Hashira of the Taisho era, Kokushibo is still more than capable of keeping up with his highly unorthodox fighting style.[51] Even after both Hashira became Marked, an enraged Kokushibo could unleash attacks that even they couldn't fully react to[26] and he handily outpaced them throughout their battle. His imperceptible speed posed such a threat to his opponents that Muichiro had to sacrifice a leg in order to stop the Upper Rank from moving so that Genya could fully immobilize him with his Blood Demon Art.[18][19] After transforming, Kokushibo is able to move so fast, he appears as a blur to a Marked Gyomei and Sanemi when they attempt to finish him off. Immense Strength: As a former Demon Slayer who has mastered Total Concentration Breathing and has gained the Demon Slayer Marks prior to becoming a demon, Kokushibo possesses immense physical strength, superior to that of all the other Upper Ranks. He is able to crack the ground just by stomping on Sanemi's sword and is capable of wielding a gigantic sword much heavier and longer than a regular katana and swinging it incessantly at incomprehensible speeds without rest or much effort.[52] After transforming, Kokushibo was able to slice off Muichiro's arm with his bare hands, akin to a blade.[53]

    Unlimited Stamina & Endurance: Like all demons, Kokushibo possesses virtually limitless stamina and vitality, never tiring and always remaining in optimal physical and mental condition all the time, as well as being able to endure waves of onslaught as if it were nothing. Despite having his limbs and whole chunks of his body repeatedly torn off and destroyed, he continued to heal and fight the Demon Slayers with little trouble.[31][32] In fact, his only instances of expressly experiencing any discomfort in his battle were from Muichiro's bright red katana and Gyomei's sunlight-soaked flail burning his body from the inside and his neck respectively. Extrasensory Perception: Kokushibo possesses honed sensory abilities that allow him to detect the presence of others outside his normal range of perception, as shown when he dodged Genya's gunshots and appeared directly behind him despite Kokushibo looking in the opposite direction.[55] Kokushibo also seems to be able to keep track of the locations of his peers around the Infinity Castle, evident as he no longer felt Akaza's presence when he died.[56]

    Menacing Aura: Kokushibo possesses a menacing and overwhelming presence that startled even Akaza, the holder of Upper Rank Three and an extremely vindictive and aggressive demon, into silence and temporarily made Muichiro Tokito, a Hashira who has faced and defeated an Upper Rank on his own, lose the will to fight, causing his body to tremble uncontrollably.[44][57]

    Fighting Style Master Swordsman: Due to training and refining his swordsmanship skills for almost 500 years and getting a major boost to his physical capabilities as a demon, Kokushibo has become one of the most powerful and skilled swordsmen to have ever lived. As a Demon Slayer in the Golden Age of Demon Slayers, his swordsmanship was already outstanding, as he learned many of his techniques from Yoriichi himself. According to himself, his techniques were so refined and legendary that they have no hopes of being passed down for future generations.[58]

    Kokushibo's skill with his sword allowed him to defeat Akaza, a prodigious hand-to-hand combatant and martial artist.[59][43] With his exceptional sword-wielding skill, he could singlehandedly take on three Hashiras, Sanemi, Muichiro and Gyomei, when they were Marked, as well as Genya, when he assimilated his blood to gain a small portion of his power and develop his own Blood Demon Art. Kokushibo's swordsmanship is further empowered with the development of his own Blood Demon Art, which greatly improves the lethality and power of his techniques, making every single one of his sword swings incredibly deadly.[60]

    Breathing Style Moon Breathing (月つきの呼こ吸きゅう Tsuki no kokyū?): Kokushibo is the first demon that utilized Breathing Styles.[46][61] His Breathing Style, in particular, is one of the most dangerous and powerful ones displayed thus far. Enhanced with his Blood Demon Art, he can create many chaotic crescent-moon blades when slashing that vary in length and size in crescent shaped sword attacks.[62] Kokushibo had continued to develop this Breathing Style and had created over a dozen techniques over the centuries he had lived.[23]

    Crescent Moon Blades: Complementing his Moon Breathing, Kokushibo's Blood Demon Art allows him to create and manipulate dozens of sharp blades shaped like traditional crescent moons from his flesh katana.[60] They are implied to have been created from his blood and can be either a bright yellow or a bright blue in color.[63][64] These crescent moon blades are innately chaotic, constantly changing in size, direction, and speed, making Kokushibo's attacks extremely unpredictable and unreadable as they have no set pattern at all.[65] This Blood Demon Art greatly enhances the power of his techniques, making every single one of his sword swings extremely deadly and dangerous. He also seems to be capable of using his Blood Demon Art as long as his katana is unsheathed, allowing him to create crescent moon blades even without swinging his sword or unleashing a technique.[66] The volatile nature of his Blood Demon Art makes it extremely challenging for Demon Slayers to circumvent; Sanemi stated that if not for his years of experience in the field of demon hunting, he wouldn't have been able to defend himself from Kokushibo's attacks.[65]

    Kokushibo's Blood Demon Art seems to have a secondary ability that allows him to manipulate the shape and range of his sword slashes when unleashing his Moon Breathing techniques. His slashes usually create and are surrounded by a pink or orange crescent shape that carries his crescent moon blades.[60] Kokushibo seems to be able to control said slashes to a certain extent, increasing their range and shape to attack his target in impossible ways under normal circumstances. When he distorted his katana into its branch-like appearance, his slashes turn into a light purple color. Kokushibo displayed the ability to exponentially increase the range of his sword slash with his Moon-Dragon Ringtail technique[67] and shape his slashes into a circular drill-like shape with his Drilling Slashes, Moon Through Bamboo Leaves technique.[68]

    Techniques Description Demonstrations First Form: Dark Moon, Evening Palace (壱いちノ型かた　闇やみ月づき・宵よいの宮みや Ichi no kata: Yamizuki - Yoi no Miya?)[69] - Kokushibo draws his katana and performs a singular horizontal slash following a crescent shape, creating numerous chaotic crescent blades along its path, before sheathing it back into his scabbard. This technique is extremely reminiscent of Iaijutsu. Second Form: Pearl Flower Moongazing (弐にの型かた　珠しゅ華かノ弄ろう月げつ Ni no kata: Shuka no Rōgetsu?)[70] - Kokushibo performs three crescent-shaped slashes while releasing a multitude of crescent moon blades along with them. Third Form: Loathsome Moon, Chains (参さんノ型かた　厭えん忌き月づき・銷つがり San no kata: Enkizuki - Tsugari?)[71] - Kokushibo performs two extremely broad crescent-shaped slashes directly in front of him, from which a storm of smaller crescent moon blades are released. Fifth Form: Moon Spirit Calamitous Eddy (伍ごノ型かた 月げっ魄ぱく災さい渦か Go no kata: Geppaku Saika?)[72] - Kokushibo creates multiple long and curved slashes layered over one another, essentially creating a vortex of crescent moon blades. As stated by Sanemi Shinazugawa, this technique was performed without Kokushibo swinging his katana. Sixth Form: Perpetual Night, Lonely Moon - Incessant (陸ろくノ型かた　常とこ夜よ孤こ月げつ・無む間けん Roku no kata: Tokoyo Kogetsu - Muken?)[73] - Kokushibo rapidly performs a multitude of curved slashes several meters in front of him that releases a wild barrage of crescent moon blades capable of slicing up the surroundings. Seventh Form: Mirror of Misfortune, Moonlit (漆しちノ型かた　厄やっ鏡きょう・月づき映ばえ Shichi no kata: Yakkyō - Zukibae?)[74] - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo performs a frontal crescent-shaped slash with couples of crescent moon blades, that unleashes numerous straight slashes with crescent moons interlaced, that expand outward through the ground. Eighth Form: Moon-Dragon Ringtail (捌はちノ型かた　月げつ龍りゆう輪りん尾び Hachi no kata: Getsuryū Rinbi?)[67] - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo performs a extremely wide, long-ranged curved slash that leaves dozens of crescent moon blades along its path. Ninth Form: Waning Moonswaths (玖くノ型かた　降くだり月づき・連れん面めん Ku no kata: Kudarizuki - Renmen?)[75] - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo performs multiple downward curved slashes, all in close proximity, that leave numerous crescent moon blades along its path. Tenth Form: Drilling Slashes, Moon Through Bamboo Leaves (拾じゅうノ型かた　穿せん面めん斬ざん・蘿ら月げつ Jū no kata: Senmenzan - Ragetsu?)[68] - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo creates three rotating circular saw-like slashes with crescent moon blades following their path. Fourteenth Form: Catastrophe, Tenman Crescent Moon (拾じゅう肆しノ型かた　兇きょう変へん・天てん満まん繊せん月げつ Jū Shi no kata: Kyōhen - Tenman Sengetsu?)[76] - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo performs a multitude of curved circular slashes which expand outward in every direction that incrementally grow in size, essentially creating an omni-directional vortex of crescent moon blades that whirls around him. This technique is visually near-identical to Fifth Form: Moon Spirit Calamitous Eddy, albeit with much greater range. Sixteenth Form: Moonbow, Half Moon (拾じゅう陸ろくノ型かた　月虹げっこう・片かた割われ月づき Jū Roku no kata: Gekkō - Katawarezuki?)[23] - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo swings outward, sending six curved slashes crashing down in front of him with numerous crescent moon blades, powerful enough to leave craters in their wake.

    Equipment Flesh Katana:[1] As a former Demon Slayer and user of a Breathing Style, Kokushibo wields a warped version of a Nichirin katana.[77] Created from his own flesh and blood, his body's immense durability and hardness allow it to be just as sharp, if not more so, as a normal Nichirin weapon made from Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand (猩しょう猩じょう緋ひ砂さ鐵てつ Shōjōhi Satetsu?) and Scarlet Ore (猩しょう猩じょう緋ひ鑛こう石せき Shōjōhi Kōseki?). Its blade is blood-red, with a veiny appearance, and numerous eyes cover the blade and the tsuka. However, it is unknown whether those eyes can be used to extend his vision. His katana's tsuba is circular with four slight indentations, a fleshy red center with three eyes and several black veins, and a purple border. The tsuka is wrapped with teal cords and capped with a purple kashira. He carries it inside a saya at his waist that shares a similar red fleshy appearance. Kokushibo named his weapon Kyokokukamusari (虛きょ哭こく神かむ去さり Kyokokukamusari?, lit. "Hollow Cry of the Godless").[1]

    Standard Nichirin Katana: When Kokushibo was a Demon Slayer, he carried around a traditional Nichirin katana that was light purple in color and had a tsuba that was rectangular shaped with four angular indentations, a black center, and a golden border. Along with it, he also carried a standard sword sheath that was black in color.

    Doma is a tall young man of muscular build. He is of extremely pale complexion and possesses long, pointed nails that appeared to be stained with a pale purple. He possesses long platinum blond hair that he wore parted to his right, the shorter parts around his face seeming to flare out to either side around his head, curving backwards with one lock slanting down to the right of his face to fall between his eyes, while the longer parts were left to drape centrally down his back in a thinning spiral. Due to his appearance, he was seen as a divine being, and as such, he was made into a cult figure.

    His eyes have been described to be incredibly rare and beautiful,[12] as, in color, they appeared to be made up of an array of rainbow pastel tones that fade into one another as they circle his irises, this unusual appearance even causing people to believe Doma is a blessed being who could communicate with the gods. The kanji for Upper Rank (上じょう弦げん Jōgen?) is etched across his left eye, and the daiji for Two (弐に Ni?) or Six (陸ろく Roku?) at the time when he first met Gyutaro and Daki[13] on his right, with thick eyelashes and a set of notably thick black eyebrows acting to frame them above.

    Doma wore a blood-red turtleneck of a design that made it appear that the section between his neck and upper chest is covered by a black substance that looks like it is dripping slightly down his body, with this same design being repeated at his wrists and down his hands, as well as on the small, circular red and black "stain"[14] that adorned the top of his head. Below this, he wore a pair of straight, tan-colored hakama pants of a pinstriped design, their cuffs visibly loose, which he secured with a pale green-tinged golden belt (originally colored black, and colored white in the anime), its buckle a bright silver. He also only wears plain black tabi socks on his feet.

    On occasion, Doma can also be seen sporting a blackish-lavender cloak, which he drapes around his shoulders, two lengths of purple and black cloth with a rectangular pattern also hanging from it around his neck, as well as a black crown which is lined with gold around its frontal plates and has flowing black ribbons dangling from each of its sides that are connected to a red bead. He is also usually seen holding a pair of sharp fans that were made entirely out of shining gold, a maroon lotuses with green leaves design engraved across them and a purple tassel at the base, which acted as his primary weapons.

    As a human child, Doma looked very similar to his current appearance, only lacking the kanji on his eyes and blood pattern on his hair, which used to be shorter. Doma wore a similar crown and pants, but with a maroon kimono with a grey juban. Doma also had an oversized black haori that had purple cloths on his back. Doma also had a necklace made of many colored beads, with a second set of white beads dangling from under the main necklace. In addition, two golden tassels were on each side of the necklace. In what little is shown of Doma as an adult human, he appeared nearly identical other than his older appearance. Doma is outwardly friendly and cheery, possessing an approachable and charismatic air. Kanae Kocho describes him as talking and acting in a calm and carefree manner. However, in truth, he has psychopathic tendencies and adopts twisted beliefs and habits, such as devouring his cult's followers with the belief he is saving them from their suffering and pain by letting them live inside his body.

    Because of his carefree and waggish persona, he was prone to facetious and inappropriate behavior. Even amongst his fellow demons, he was disliked by Muzan Kibutsuji and Akaza for his casual and childish behavior, and indifference to the strict hierarchy that showed complete and total obedience towards the Demon King, demonstrated by him speaking in the same merry cadence during Muzan's rants. Even Gyokko, a demon with an amicable relationship with Doma due both sharing morbid tendencies, was perturbed when the Upper Rank attempted to accompany him and Hantengu to the Swordsmith Village without Muzan's explicit permission.

    As for the humans that he had personally wronged or traumatized, Doma continually did not treat their feelings with any respect, such as telling Shinobu Kocho that he was disappointed at being unable to eat Kanae, chiding Kanao Tsuyuri for "rudely" interrupting him while he was absorbing Shinobu, and continuously mocking Kotoha's life in front of her son, Inosuke. This in turn caused Doma to draw in intense amounts of vitriolic hatred towards him. However, it is hinted that Doma's taunts and jeers are deliberately meant to provoke his opponents into blindly attacking him and getting in range of his deadly Blood Demon Art. His aforementioned comment to Kanao was revealed to have been bait that Doma was surprised didn't work, before concluding that Shinobu had warned her of his abilities.

    Under his carefree and unassuming demeanor that made him appear inane and witless, Doma is a cold and calculating individual with an extremely keen intellect. His high intelligence is the reason for why he looks down on humans, genuinely believing that they are pathetic and pitiful, even crying out of pity for them on several occasions. His condescending attitude towards humans was also showcased when he was decapitated by the combined efforts of Shinobu, Inosuke, and Kanao, feeling insulted to be killed by individuals whom he thought lowly of. Doma is clinically agnosic, being completely unable to experience proper emotions. Doma himself admitted that the concept of emotion was completely foreign to him, even as a human. Aware that this is abnormal, Doma compensated for his empty heart with his own charisma. learning to express his carefree demeanor enough to deceive all but the keenest observers. However, despite his innate apathy, he appeared angry when Kanao insulted his inability to feel real emotions, dropping his kindly façade and outright trying to kill her, implying that he was insecure about his chronic apathy. His apathy is shown even as a child when his mother brutally murdered his father, before she proceeded to kill herself as she was being observed by him; Doma didn't show any sign of grief or shock, but instead complained that their blood made the room stuffy.[15]

    Doma primarily eats women, as they are known to be more nutritious than men due to their ability to nurture babies. One exception to this was Kotoha, who Doma didn't want to kill and instead wanted to keep by his side until she died of natural causes, though he eventually killed her when she tried to escape. His eagerness to consume women stands in stark contrast to his fellow Upper Rank, Akaza, who consciously refrained from feeding on women despite their higher nutritional value to demons compared to men. During his interactions with Akaza, he showed no negative reactions to him delivering two fatal blows to his head in annoyance.[3][17] In fact, he considered this to be their form of personal "greeting" between two "best friends". Doma has even implied that he actually enjoys these physical abuses, as seen when he morbidly asked Muzan with excitement on what type of extreme self-harm he should inflict on himself as punishment for his failure,[18] and again expressed delight upon the severe pain he felt at Shinobu's numerous attempts to poison him to death, even cheerfully expressing his delight on the feelings and sensations of the poison destroying his body and how he might actually grow to like it. Despite leading a religious cult, Doma is a nihilistic atheist who staunchly believed that gods, Buddhas, and the afterlife do not exist. He believed that nothing exists after death and had condescending sympathy for people who "could not accept something so simple", believing them to be naïve and delusional.[20] His status as the Eternal Paradise Faith's leader was the decision of his parents; Doma thought they were incredibly stupid for believing in gods but played along with them out of pity. Similarly, he belived that the adults seeking guidance from him despite his young age were equally foolish and pitiful. Though he continued to act as the sage he was propped as while he was still human, as a demon, he began eating his followers out of a genuine belief that consuming them would allow them to achieve true eternity and peace. This created a juxtaposition where despite his heinous crimes, Doma acted not out of sadism but out of a warped sense of benevolence.

    However, during his death, he began to question if Heaven and Hell could actually exist. Doma also displayed what was arguably is his first true emotion when he proclaimed his love for Shinobu after finding her cute. As the holder of the second highest ranking position of the Twelve Kizuki, and the third most powerful of his kind to have ever existed, Doma is an exceptionally powerful demon. His combination of combative prowess and his potent cryokinetic Blood Demon Art in battle is powerful enough to overwhelm and defeat the Insect Hashira, Shinobu Kocho, without any difficulty,[22][23][24] and he is also noted to have defeated Kanae Kocho, the late Flower Hashira, in the past.[22][25] Afterwards, Doma could take on both Inosuke Hashibira and Kanao Tsuyuri, whose strength and abilities were on par with the Hashira, simultaneously without much effort either.

    According to Doma, Akaza, who holds the rank of Upper Three, would have no chance in defeating him in battle, to the point where even he wouldn't dare challenge Doma to a battle, despite the Upper Rank's immense outward hatred toward him.[26] Moreover, Doma was able to surpass Akaza in a shorter period of time, showcasing the immense power gap between the two demons. As further credence to Doma's immense power, he rarely fights seriously and instead adopts a casual and carefree attitude even in life-and-death situations against the most powerful Demon Slayers, only ever becoming serious when his life is in serious danger, such as when the deadly effects of Shinobu's poisons became apparent.

    "You don't feel anything, do you?" Apathy: Doma is diagnosed as clinically apathetic, unable to experience human emotions. Despite this, he maintains a friendly and carefree façade that deceives all but the most astute observers. Kanao is the only person who can see through his façade, thanks to her exceptional eyesight. She believes that Doma impersonates emotions in the hopes that he could eventually acquire the ability to feel them himself, a concept entirely foreign to him.[27] Even in his childhood, Doma exhibited little to no emotion. When his mother killed his father before taking her own life in front of him, he remained unaffected by the traumatising event; his only reaction was annoyance over the blood that was making the room stuffy.[15]

    This inability to feel emotions has become an advantage for Doma, as this allows him to calmly process, understand and analyze any situation he is faced with without being hampered by emotions, allowing him to easily and quickly come up with any solution for any adversary. Although, after his death, he seemed to have developed feelings for Shinobu Kocho, making it the first time he actually shows true emotion. Keen Intellect: Doma is exceptionally intelligent, which he displayed on multiple occasions. During his battle with Shinobu, Doma was able to quickly analyze and determine that Shinobu's scabbard acted as her portable poison mixer and loader, just by hearing it once.[22] While in a fast-paced back and forth with Kanao, he was able to process and deduce her abilities, surmising that it was her enhanced eyesight that allowed her to parry and dodge his ice attacks and immediately develop a strategy to counter it.[28] In another instance, when he left Kanao and Inosuke to fight his ice clones, he construed that Inosuke had an acute sense of touch just by observing his behavior when near his ice techniques.[29]

    Throughout his long life, Doma was able to trick and deceive all of his followers, allowing him to kill and eat them virtually without any resistance. He was able to keep this up for over a century with almost complete infallibility.[30][31] Additionally, unlike most demons who become amnesiac and lose much of their human memories upon transforming, Doma retains them, being able to remember even the most insignificant details from back when he was a human child, which was well over a century ago, as well as accurately reciting specific memories by physically stimulating his brain. Like all demons, Doma is able to manipulate his flesh at will. As with the rest of the Upper Ranks who wield weapons, Doma utilizes this ability to form the two Japanese war fans he used in battle.

    Immense Regeneration: As an Upper Rank demon, Doma possesses one of the most advanced and powerful regenerative healing factors in existence. When Akaza punched off both his lower jaw and the upper portion of his head, he instantly healed with ease, even considering the fatal attack to be a friendly gesture.[35][36] In his battle with Shinobu, Doma was able to instantly heal from her onslaught of fatal Wisteria poison attacks.[22][37] He also recovers within moments from having his eyes slashed out by Inosuke,[38] and from his torso being slashed open by Kanao.[39] Even when Doma absorbed Shinobu's body and ingested over 37 kilograms worth of poison, approximately 700 times[40] more than the lethal amount needed to kill an average demon, it still took a considerable amount of time before it began to have any adverse effect on him. Doma fully adapts to Shinobu's poison injection to his neck.

    Reactive Adaptation: During his battle against Shinobu, he is able to break down and render all of the various poison mixtures Shinobu injected into him useless, immediately developing antibodies to her poison despite his rotting body, which increased in speed and ease the more the Insect Hashira poisoned him.[22][41] Shinobu herself was shocked at how fast Doma built a resistance to her normally fatal poison. Doma even managed to recover from a hefty injection to his neck via Dance of the Centipede: Hundred-Legged Zigzag, one of Shinobu's most devastating techniques, much to her exasperation.[22][24]

    Physical Abilities Immense Durability: As an Upper Rank demon who has assimilated a huge amount of Muzan's blood, Doma has an exceptionally durable body. Being of a higher rank, Doma boasts greater durability than Gyokko, who in his true form had scales tougher than diamonds, as well as Hantengu, whose skin is hard enough to resist the blasts of a shotgun and break Nichirin swords, and even Akaza, who had such durability that even a Hashira such as Kyojuro Rengoku struggled to cut him. Kanao had difficulty slicing Doma's neck even when his body was falling apart due to the extreme dosage of poison he received.[42] She only succeeded in decapitating the Upper Rank when Inosuke used his swords to push her blade through Doma's neck, and even then, his body was already falling apart by that point.

    Immense Speed & Reflexes: As an Upper Rank demon of the Twelve Kizuki, Doma possesses inhuman movement speed and reflexes, being able to move so fast he appears to suddenly vanish from view. Being of a higher rank, he is faster than Akaza, who was able to keep up with a Marked Giyu, and Gyutaro who was able to keep up with and overpower Tengen, the fastest runner among the Taisho era Hashira. He first displayed his immense speed during the Upper Rank meeting, where he suddenly appeared beside Gyokko,[43][36] which caught him off guard. Later, when Akaza appeared behind him and destroyed his head, Doma remarked that he could've easily evaded it if he wanted to, but didn't do so on purpose as he wanted to get along with him.

    Furthermore, Doma's tremendous speed enabled him to quickly best Kanae Kocho, the late Flower Hashira, in the past.[22][25] His imperceptible speed was further testified when he sliced a woman to pieces before Shinobu could bring her from his attack range, even taking the Insect Hashira a moment to register the attack.[31] Moreover, Doma could keep up with Shinobu's own tremendous speed for the majority of the fight, despite him noting that she was the fastest Hashira he had met.[23][44] He was even able to deliver a deep cut to Shinobu before she could even react.[45] Against Kanao, a Hashira-level Demon Slayer, Doma was able to easily dodge her Crimson Hanagoromo technique while still busy absorbing Shinobu,[46] moving so quickly that he left an afterimage that initially gave the illusion that Kanao was successful in her attack.[22] He later managed to move so fast he appeared to teleport behind her, nearly decapitating the Demon Slayer's head.[47]

    Doma steals Kanao's katana from her grasp unseen. Later on in the fight, Doma managed to completely blitz Kanao, running up to her from a considerably far distance, stealing her Nichirin katana while she was still gripping onto it,[48] and returning to his original spot so fast that Kanao, despite possessing superhuman vision, couldn't react to, let alone perceive the Upper Rank's movements, even taking several seconds to comprehend and realize what just happened. Doma later blitzed Inosuke in a similar fashion, this time by stealing his mask without he and Kanao realizing it until several seconds later.[49] He also intercepted Inosuke's attempt to use his Beast Breathing and slash him in the chest twice.[50] Additionally, even when Kanao and Inosuke fought together, Doma was able to keep up with them both with ease.[51] Due to how casual Doma was when he performed the aforementioned feats, it is likely that he could've killed both Kanao and Inosuke had he taken the fight more seriously.

    Immense Strength: As an Upper Rank demon of the Twelve Kizuki who possesses a high assimilation of Muzan's blood and a tall muscular frame, Doma possesses tremendous physical strength. With a single stroke of his war fan, he was able to shatter the blade of the late Flower Hashira, Kanae's katana and mortally wound her.[22][25] He was able exchange attacks with the Insect Hashira Shinobu throughout their battle, continually blocking her thrusts, matching her parries, and even generating a small shockwave with a double upward strike.[22][23] He was later able to break her back by tightening his hug with just a slight exertion.[22][37][24] Doma was also shown being able to easily pierce his own skull with a finger to stimulate his brain, despite his head requiring a force as powerful as an enraged Upper Rank Three, Akaza's punch to destroy.[52] He is also seen intercepting a Flower Breathing attack from Kanao simply by blocking her katana, yet the sheer force of his swipe caused her to fly into the water garden a noticeable distance from him.[53]

    Unlimited Stamina & Endurance: Doma possesses absolute and infinite stamina and vitality, never tiring and always remaining in optimal physical and mental condition all the time as well as being able to endure waves of onslaught as if it were nothing. He showed almost complete immunity to being repeatedly violently attacked by his fellow Upper Rank, Akaza,[35][36] having his eyes slashed out by Inosuke,[38] being repeatedly poisoned and stabbed by Shinobu[22][54][55], having his stomach slashed open by Kanao,[39] and inflicting various forms of extreme self-harm to himself.[32] Doma never once expressed the slightest bit of pain, discomfort and panic at being wounded so grievously, having been able to nonchalantly and calmly continue fighting, talking or doing whatever else he is doing as if nothing is happening.

    Supernatural Abilities Extrasensory Perception: Doma possesses extraordinary sensory abilities which allow him to detect things outside the normal range of perception, as shown when he could perceive attacks even from places he is not looking at, allowing him to nullify the effectiveness of sneak attacks. Later, Doma was capable of detecting Akaza's transformation into a demon immune to decapitation by Nichirin Swords despite being extremely far away from him. He was also able to suddenly sense Akaza's presence was gone when he was defeated.[27]

    Fighting Style Tessenjutsu: Doma is incredibly skilled in Tessenjutsu, a style of fighting utilizing tessen, sharp Japanese war fans. This is shown during his battles against the Demon Slayers. It is implied that his skill in this martial art surpasses Akaza's bare-fisted combat prowess due to his superior ranking compared to Akaza. Doma showcased his skill in dual wielding his Japanese war fans against Kanao and Inosuke, where he could easily fend off both combatants, displaying his ability in using his fans for both attacking and defending during high-speed battles, parrying and delivering attacks that overwhelmed the Demon Slayers.

    With his exceptional proficiency in Tessenjutsu, Doma could make use of techniques that require him to perform eight to nine fan attacks in the blink of an eye and generate huge gusts of air with them. Furthermore, Doma's Tessenjutsu incorporates his cryokinetic Blood Demon Art which enhances its range and lethality, making his fighting style a great blend of offense and defense.

    Cryokinesis: Doma's Blood Demon Art grants him extremely powerful cryokinesis. He can generate ice, freezing mist, and frost from his flesh and blood and can spawn it anywhere in his vicinity, as well as manipulating it at will, allowing him to unleash incredibly potent ice techniques. Additionally, the ice created from his Blood Demon Art is extremely lethal to those that inhale it, causing the cells of the victim's lungs to die and rendering them unable to breathe very quickly. His ice and frost have also been noted to be extremely cold, as shown when the air around Doma's frost was cold enough to make Shinobu's lungs feel as if they were about to burst and nearly freeze Kanao's body and surroundings just by coming into contact with it.[56][57]

    Doma is incredibly proficient in his Blood Demon Art, being capable of creating constructs out of the ice he generates such as frost lotuses, stalagmites, clouds of icy air, and even miniature ice clones of himself capable of unleashing the same techniques as him. He has also shown the ability to use the ice he creates as extra appendages, as seen when he created ice vines to hold himself up the ceiling while he uses his arms to hug Shinobu. In combat, Doma usually incorporates his cryokinetic abilities with his Tessenjutsu, enhancing his fan attacks with ice and frost. Doma prefers to use his Blood Demon Art to create frost lotuses and crystal-like shards made of ice.

Lotus Vines (蔓つる蓮れん華げ Tsuru Renge?)[61] - Similar to his Frozen Lotus technique, Doma creates several lotuses made of ice and long frost vines that extend his reach and can capture or slice up his opponents.[62] Cold White Princesses (寒かん烈れつの白しら姫ひめ Kanretsu no Shirahime?)[63] - Doma creates the upper body of two female humanoid figures at the end of lotuses using ice with the ability to blow icy air towards his target. The wind generated was cold enough to instantly freeze the surrounding wood bridges and water. Kanao noted that this technique is extremely broad and has a long reach.[64] Wintry Icicles (冬ふゆざれ氷柱つらら Fuyuzare Tsurara?)[65] - Doma spawns numerous large icicles to impale his target. Scattering Lotuses (散ちり蓮れん華げ Chiri Renge?)[66] - Doma swings his fans and creates a blizzard of long-ranged razor-sharp ice shards shaped like lotus petals. Crystalline Divine Child (結けっ晶しょうノ御み子こ Kesshō no Miko?)[67] - Doma creates miniature ice replicas of himself to battle his opponents. He has shown to be capable of creating up to six clones of himself at once,[68] all possessing roughly the same skill and proficiency as Doma himself in addition to being fully capable of using any of his techniques, stated to be as powerful as his own. [69] Furthermore, these clones are able to record any information it gathers during battle and relay it to Doma, allowing him to better fight his opponents.[70] However, one drawback to this technique is that the clones require concentration in order to maintain their functionality, as seen when they crumbled into pieces when Shinobu's poison started to take effect on Doma.[71] Rime — Water Lily Bodhisattva (霧む氷ひょう・睡すい蓮れん菩ぼ薩さつ Muhyō - Suiren Bosatsu?)[72] - Doma creates an enormous Bodhisattva statue surrounded by lotuses made of ice, and takes refuge on top a lotus located on the statue's shoulder. Its most notable trait is its ability to generate huge gusts of Doma's deadly ice from its mouth and deliver powerful physical attacks by using its large arms to swat at its targets.[73][74] It is also able to grab targets using its hands. [75] Unlike Crystalline Divine Child, Doma had little need to concentrate for its effectiveness, as he instantly summoned it in a panicked state when he was severely poisoned, and it only crumbled upon Doma's decapitation and death.

    Equipment Japanese War Fans: Doma carries around a pair of gold-plated Japanese war fans fashioned from his flesh (similar to all other weapons used by demons), that act as his main offensive weapons and aid in spreading his Blood Demon Art. His fans are of a golden color with several patterns resembling lotuses engraved on the side complete with a green tassel, which was recolored to purple in the anime. Moreover, the anime and colored cover for Chapter 162 color the lotuses on his fans are bright maroon with green leaves.
