The seven dragon tribes of Pyrrhia are at war, and it is up to a group of five unlikely heroes to save the day. Guided by a mysterious prophecy, will the dragonets' friendship and unique abilities be enough to find a new queen and unite the tribes once again?

Timelines:

The Scorching:

The Scorching takes place, an event in which the dragons of Pyrrhia overthrow the humans and become the continent's dominant lifeform. The tribes are created, and queens are chosen, followed by 500 years of transformation and resettlement. During this time, Pyrrhia is in a state of constant warfare.

The Founding of Pantala/The Dungeon Isle:

When Bloodshed and Precipice discover Harmony and the former vows to destroy it, Sorrel and Darkling decided to hide the villagers. Darkling and Lemur assassinate Queen Falcon, leading to the BeetleWings, LeafWings, some SeaWings, and some RainWings either fleeing from Pyrrhia and escaping to the other continent or being imprisoned in the Dungeon Isle. When the dragons arrive on Pantala, they find that the continent is under the total control of the othermind. They almost completely eradicate the breath of evil after realizing that it was linked with the animals attacking them. Summit became the queen of the SkyWings and split the territory that was formerly occupied by the BeetleWings and the LeafWings with Queen Hibiscus of the RainWings.

Darkstalker's Time:

Penguin creates the gift of diplomacy: three bracelets that allow the wearer to get over the Great Ice Cliff despite their tribe and keep warm in the Ice Kingdom, as well as a heated dome near the border with the Kingdom of Sand.

Vigilance ascends to the NightWing throne.

Albatross begins with the creation of the Summer Palace.

Manta marries Reef on the sunset beach of the Island Palace.

Prudence, Starclaws, and Discretion go on a diplomatic mission to the Ice Kingdom, taking Foeslayer with them so she can have dragonets with Prince Arctic and bring animus genes into the NightWing tribe. Arctic and Foeslayer fall in love, and during their escape from the Ice Kingdom, Arctic permanently damages Snowflake's wing by using his magic to direct Foeslayer's fire at her. A war between the IceWings and NightWings erupts, creating hatred for each other that still exists in the present day.

The brightest night occurs. Darkstalker hatches, receiving the powers of the three moons, but chooses not to help his sister Whiteout out of her egg. This causes Whiteout to hatch a day later.

During the Talons of Power ceremony, Fathom discovers that he is an animus. Taken into training by Albatross, he helps him with the construction of the Summer Palace, and creates Blob for his friend Indigo.

Diamond sends an offer to Arctic: he may return to the IceWing tribe, and the war between them and the NightWings will be over, on the condition that he kills his two dragonets. He refuses (for now), however.

Albatross murders most of the members of the royal SeaWing family in a massacre, as well as Princess Sunset, one of the two SkyWings that had come to negotiate with Lagoon about SeaWing villages on the coast of SkyWing territory. As a result, the villages are abandoned, and tributes are paid to the SkyWings for the next five years. As one of the only survivors, Queen Pearl ascends to the SeaWing throne.

After staying away for two years because of her overwhelming visions, Clearsight starts attending the NightWing school, where she meets Darkstalker, her soulmate. They find Current who had fled the SeaWing massacre, and he is allowed to stay in Queen Vigilance's palace. Darkstalker then shows Clearsight his talisman, a scroll that contains his animus power so he won't lose his soul, and reveals his magic to his parents when Arctic accidentally finds out. They immediately tell Queen Vigilance who then informs the rest of the tribe.

After a year of solitude, Fathom is sent to the Night Kingdom to stop Darkstalker from using his animus magic, along with Indigo, Lionfish, and Wharf. After Indigo nearly kills him when they first meet, Darkstalker enchants his scales to be invincible and creates the soul reader to keep Fathom from worrying about his magic.

Clearsight becomes Vigilance's head seer after she foresees an IceWing attack while secretly releasing pet scavengers with Listener. On her hatching day, she is given a carved NightWing by Fathom, as well as one of Darkstalker's three dreamvisitors. He gives another to Fathom and keeps the third one for himself.

Foeslayer takes off her enchanted earring after an argument with Arctic, allowing Diamond to capture her and create the Diamond Trial. On Vigilance's orders, Darkstalker enchants an invisible shield around the Night Kingdom that kills all IceWings, and later traps Indigo in a wooden carving, making Fathom believe she left him.

On Vigilance's festival to celebrate 40 years of her being on the throne, Clearsight introduces Whiteout to Thoughtful. Darkstalker is nearly assassinated by Quickdeath but protected by his enchanted scales. Using his magic, he finds out that Vigilance was the one to send the assassin and plots to kill her in return. However, Arctic takes Whiteout to the Ice Kingdom, and Darkstalker enchants him to follow him back to the Night Kingdom, where he then forces his father to disembowel himself. Clearsight tells the NightWings to leave the Talon Peninsula, takes Darkstalker's scroll, and with Fathom's help, manages to trick him into accepting her bracelet that would then put him to sleep for hopefully forever.

Fathom releases Indigo from the carving she was trapped in and moves to an island near the rainforest with her. Meanwhile, Clearsight decides to fly to the Lost Continent, where she falls in love with a BeetleWing named Sunstreak and starts writing down her visions in a book to protect the Pantalan tribes, eventually resulting in her being worshipped even in the present day.

Before Oasis's Death:

The Tree Wars occur on Pantala. HiveWings defeat LeafWings, and Queen Wasp takes control of both HiveWings and SilkWings. Queen Sequoia refuses to surrender, and the LeafWings are nearly wiped out. The HiveWings destroy the trees to prevent their return. The surviving LeafWings eventually split into PoisonWings and SapWings.

After Blister hatches, Queen Oasis kills her first sister to maintain the number of her heirs. Blaze later hatches, and Oasis kills her second sister as well.

Six-Claws joins the SandWing army with Dune after saving Blaze from a sandstorm. Queen Scarlet takes the SkyWing throne after challenging her mother, Queen Firestorm, during her wedding to Canyon. A plague later kills several dragons in the SandWing palace, including Char and Quicksand.

The Death of Oasis Palm flees the SandWing palace after being caught trying to elope with Smolder. She hides with her twin Prickle, who is mistakenly arrested in her place, then escapes to raise her dragonet in peace.

Heath, Rose, and Stone break into the SandWing palace to steal treasure. Oasis pursues them but is killed by Stone, although Heath takes credit. Burn searches for them and destroys their dens, while Blister steals the treasure. Rose is eventually adopted by Prince Smolder.

Blister allies with the SeaWings and MudWings, while Burn allies with the SkyWings. Blaze has the support of the IceWings and most SandWings, beginning the War of SandWing Succession.

Orca challenges Queen Coral for the SeaWing throne and dies accidentally. Her enchanted statue continues killing Coral's heirs.

Deathbringer becomes a full assassin after killing Commander Tempest. The MudWings leave Blister's army, but Burn later forces them to ally with her. Six-Claws deserts Burn's army after she cripples Dune, taking Dune and Kindle with him.

Kestrel's eggs hatch into Peril, who has firescales, and Sky, who has too little fire. Scarlet forces Kestrel to abandon Sky and keep Peril. Kestrel attempts to save Peril but burns her talons and must leave her behind. She later joins the Talons of Peace.

Wren escapes a human sacrifice attempt and rescues Sky. They decide to survive without their parents. Stonemover flees to Jade Mountain and uses his animus magic against itself, gradually turning his scales to stone.

The Brightest Night Asha obtains Clay's egg but dies from injuries sustained during a battle. Hvitur steals a prophesied SkyWing egg, but Scarlet destroys it and kills him.

Scarlet forces Peril to destroy SkyWing eggs due to hatch during the brightest night, though one hatchling escapes. Chameleon transforms Princess Tourmaline into Ruby using Darkstalker's scroll.

Webs steals Tsunami's egg and later a RainWing egg for the Talons of Peace. Morrowseer takes Starflight's egg and develops the idea of the false dragonets of destiny. Dune betrays Thorn by stealing her egg.

The dragonets of destiny hatch. Sunny hatches as a hybrid, while Clay, Tsunami, Glory, and Starflight hatch among their respective tribes. Rowan begins training Leaf to become a dragonslayer.

Main Series — The Dragonets of Destiny Turtle enchants Anemone to be an animus so his own powers remain hidden.

The dragonets escape their cave after learning their guardians plan to kill Glory. They are captured by Scarlet and forced into her arena. Glory eventually attacks Scarlet with venom, allowing the dragonets to escape with Peril's help. Clay reunites with his family, and Ruby becomes Queen of the SkyWings.

The dragonets visit the SeaWing Summer Palace and meet Tsunami's royal family. They destroy Orca's enchanted statue, ending the murders of Coral's daughters. Burn's forces attack the palace, forcing the SeaWings to retreat.

In the rainforest, Glory challenges the RainWing queens and becomes their queen. Starflight discovers that the NightWings fabricated the prophecy and planned to conquer the rainforest. The RainWings attack the NightWing island and free the kidnapped RainWings. The volcano erupts, killing Battlewinner and Morrowseer and blinding Starflight. The NightWings relocate to the rainforest under Glory's rule.

Sunny is kidnapped by Fierceteeth, Strongwings, and Preyhunter but escapes to the Scorpion Den and finds her mother, Thorn. With help from Thorn's Outclaws and Peril, Sunny escapes Burn's stronghold and contacts the SandWing princesses. Burn dies from a dragonbite viper, and Blister is killed by the Eye of Onyx. Sunny makes Thorn queen of the SandWings.

A passing comet destroys Darkstalker's enchanted bracelet, awakening him from his long sleep. The dragonets plan to establish an intertribal school at Jade Mountain.

The Second Arc — Jade Mountain Academy Jade Mountain Academy opens, and Moonwatcher meets her winglet. Darkstalker contacts her telepathically, while Sora attempts to kill Icicle with an explosion in the history cave. Sora and Umber flee the academy toward the unknown Dungeon Isle.

Icicle heads to the rainforest to kill Glory under Scarlet's influence. Winter and his winglet pursue her. They discover Scarlet's involvement, and Hailstorm is revealed to be disguised as Pyrite. Winter helps free Foeslayer from the Ice Kingdom.

Peril and Turtle search for Scarlet. Peril discovers that Chameleon is her father and receives a necklace that removes her firescales. Scarlet forces Ruby to surrender her throne, but Ruby transforms back into Tourmaline and defeats Scarlet.

The Jade Winglet takes Darkstalker's scroll from Chameleon. Peril burns it, accidentally freeing Darkstalker.

Darkstalker enchants dragons to make them love him and grants NightWings supernatural powers. Turtle hides from Darkstalker using an enchanted stick and gives Qibli an earring that protects him from Darkstalker's spells.

Darkstalker becomes king of the NightWings. Anemone attempts to enchant him and is exiled. Turtle reveals that he made her an animus, and Darkstalker imprisons Turtle and removes his powers.

Darkstalker sends a plague to the IceWings, killing Queen Glacier. Snowfall becomes queen.

Qibli uses Turtle's bowl to multiply his enchanted earring and protect dragons from Darkstalker's spells. Onyx and Vulture challenge Thorn for the SandWing throne, but Qibli intervenes. The Jade Winglet returns to Jade Mountain, where Darkstalker and the NightWings follow them. The Battle of Jade Mountain ends when Qibli and Turtle create an empathy spell. Kinkajou transforms Darkstalker into Peacemaker using pieces of his enchanted scroll.

Jade Mountain Academy accepts new students. Winter helps establish Sanctuary, and an observatory is built at the SandWing palace.

The Third Arc — Pantala Luna, a SilkWing, is captured by HiveWings and sent to the flamesilk cavern. Blue, Cricket, Swordtail, and Sundew rescue her, but Luna is washed ashore on Pyrrhia.

The group discovers the Chrysalis, a SilkWing rebellion against the HiveWings. Cricket finds an orphaned egg that was injected only once by Queen Wasp and names the dragonet Bumblebee.

PoisonWings destroy Bloodworm Hive. Hawthorn, controlled by the othermind, tricks the main characters into burning the breath of evil, infecting several dragons. Sundew, Willow, and Mandrake kill Hawthorn, but the othermind continues spreading through its victims.

The othermind takes control of Swordtail. Meanwhile, Io and Cinnabar hide SilkWings from the HiveWings, and Queen Snowfall sends Pantalan refugees to Sanctuary. She destroys the Great Ice Cliff and the IceWing ranking wall.

A delegation travels to Pantala, but HiveWings ambush them. Moonwatcher, Tsunami, Qibli, and Pineapple are captured, while Lynx and Sundew attempt a rescue.

Cricket, Sky, Wren, Bullfrog, and Luna travel toward the abyss. They discover that the othermind originated in Pyrrhia and was created by an ancient human emperor to control dragons. Luna experiences visions of Cottonmouth, Lizard, and the Scorching. She severs the sentient skeletons of Cottonmouth and Lizard, ending the othermind permanently.

The LeafSilk Kingdom is formed for LeafWings and SilkWings, while the Hives remain HiveWing territory.

The Dungeon Isle and the Latest Events Umber and Mulberry discover an enchanted cave created by Precipice, containing unhatched eggs and instructions for breaking the spell over the Dungeon Isle. The Triumvirate is reinstated.

An egg eventually hatches, and Umber, Mulberry, Quokka, Wollemi, and Nineteen leave the Dungeon Isle to raise Harmony.

Later, Snowfall, Thorn, Ruby, Sequoia, Wasp, Glory, and Kinkajou mysteriously disappear. An unknown dragon steals the remaining egg from the hatchery.

Dungeon Isle Pantala Pyrrhia (Main area)

Pyrrhia;

Pyrrhia , also known as the Distant Kingdoms by the dragons of Pantala , is the sole setting of the Wings of Fire series during the first ten books, as well as the main setting of the Legends and Winglets books. Pyrrhia is a large continent with highly varied biomes, including the Ice Kingdom , the Kingdom of Sand , the Sky Kingdom , the Mud Kingdom , the Rainforest Kingdom , the Kingdom of the Sea , and the NightWing island . The Old NightWing Kingdom was located on a peninsula southwest of the Kingdom of Sand. During the time of Darkstalker , this peninsula used to be larger, forming the "claw" of Pyrrhia. The humans who inhabit Pyrrhia live in human settlements . Pyrrhia is a dragon-shaped continent composed of several different biomes. A large mountain range, the Claws of the Clouds Mountains , runs through the center of Pyrrhia, from the "wing" of Pyrrhia down to its "belly". The largest mountain in the range was formerly Agate Mountain , but after it was destroyed by an avalanche approximately 2000 years ago,Jade Mountain is now considered the largest.

Ice Kingdom The Ice Kingdom forms the "head" of Pyrrhia. Its terrain primarily consists of snowy and icy tundras, and it is well known for its sub-zero temperatures and freezing winds. Due to the cold temperatures, it is extremely difficult for dragons other than IceWings to live there. The land between the Ice Kingdom and the Kingdom of Sand is a barren wasteland that is highly contested territory between the two tribes. The Ice Kingdom is the territory of the IceWings , and consists of the "head," or northern peninsula, of Pyrrhia . It borders the northern ocean, the western ocean, the Kingdom of Sand , and a portion of the Sky Kingdom . It is currently ruled by Queen Snowfall

The Ice Kingdom is well known for its sub-zero temperatures and freezing winds. It is beautiful, cool, snowy, and crystalline. There are islands with caves surrounding the main IceWing palace, as well as dark green oceans studded with drifting pieces of ice or glaciers. Distant splashes of whales and seals carry across the cool, quiet ice, and the smallest changes can be detected in the frozen world. Winter described the Ice Kingdom to be the safest and most purely beautiful place in Pyrrhia, a landscape dotted with snowy, sheer cliffs and pure blue lakes. It is rare to find complete darkness, even at night; the gift of light is spread throughout the kingdom, and there are moon globes everywhere. There is a lot of open space, and the three moons glitter on everything: the snow, the palace, the frozen lakes, and the glaciers. According to Winter, cities in the Ice Kingdom are very carefully built. It is clear where the wealth and power are, who has it, and who can influence it. The Ice Kingdom's land is mostly snowy, icy, cold tundra, with multiple glaciers adding to the overall shape of the kingdom. It is cold enough that almost everywhere is covered with snow. Darkstalker said that for tribes besides IceWings, the Ice Kingdom would be horrible to conquer. The map of Pyrrhia shows that there are areas of mountain and boreal forest in the Ice Kingdom, which are also snow-covered. Icebergs, ice sheets, and ice floes litter the sea around the kingdom. The land in between the Kingdom of Sand and the Ice Kingdom is barren wasteland.

Great Ice Cliff The Great Ice Cliff was an animus touched wall that bordered part of the Ice Kingdom. The cliff shot icicle spears at any dragon who was not an IceWing if they attempt to fly over the wall into the Ice Kingdom. It was an animus gift from an unnamed IceWing animus and was named the gift of defense. The only way for a dragon from another tribe to fly over without getting killed is to put on one of three animus-touched bracelets that prevent the Great Ice Cliff's effects. It was destroyed by Queen Snowfall using the gift of strength in The Dangerous Gift. Diamond Caves The Diamond Caves are a system of ice caverns within the Ice Kingdom where the Diamond Trial takes place. They were named after the trial's creator, Queen Diamond. It is also known as the gift of vengeance. These caves are also where Foeslayer was trapped until Winter set her free in Winter Turning. Winter mentions that Queen Diamond used her animus power more than once to create the Diamond Caves, and then to imprison Foeslayer. They are a series of caves and caverns made mostly of ice, filled with stalactites and stalagmites like any other cavern, located at the north-westernmost peninsula on Pyrrhia. Near Foeslayer's cave, there is an uncountable amount of frozen IceWing dragonets, who all died during the Diamond Trial. An underground river runs near the entrance to the cave, into a dark chasm. Inside the cave it was said to have lots of frozen dragons in different poses, most of them looking like they were in a battle. Winter thinks that they are the losing challengers of the Diamond Trial.

Palaces IceWing palace The IceWing palace is the palace where the royal family resides. It is located at the northwest peninsula. Inside the palace, there is the moon globe tree — also known as the gift of light — created by the animus Frostbite. Southermost IceWing palace The southermost IceWing palace is one of four palaces in the Ice Kingdom. It resides near the ocean and the kingdom's border with the Kingdom of Sand. The palace is home to IceWing nobles, including Snowflake and her parents during the time of Darkstalker. The palace's halls are smaller and more cramped than the halls of the main IceWing palace, lined with mis-matched ice carvings, including a polar bear, a wolf, screaming scavengers, and an owl. Arctic described it as lacking consistency and with no sense of artistic vision, everything feeling too close to him. The palace's walls and floor are ice, and the ground is littered by ice shards. The palace has several flight ledges where dragons can fly in and out, one having a view of the gift of diplomacy's dome, which is between the palace and the ocean.

The IceWing palace also known as the gift of splendor is located on the far northern edge of the Ice Kingdom . The palace is occupied by the IceWingqueen and the aristocratic IceWings who were ranked in Second Circle or above before the ranking wall was destroyed.

The IceWing palace was designed, built, and enchanted centuries ago by a pair of animus twins, with magic that ensured its wall of ice would never melt, crack, or be harmed by an outside attack. It soars miles into the air, with towers and balconies and spires that pierce the clouds. It contains a great number of rooms on many various levels. It is well-fortified. The palace's interior has translucent walls and icy floors, and is marginally warmer than its exterior. The treasury is a guarded vault that is located near the center of the palace. It is composed of a thousand different glittering shades of blue, with its interior walls being cool and smooth. The lights of the palace shimmer blue-green-silver, like captured starlight. The dark ocean surrounding it serves as a mirror, sending the same lights dancing in blurred mimicry around the palace's base. A galaxy of smaller lights spirals out in five curved arms from the palace, illuminating lower aristocrats' homes, the training schools that are open all night, and the shimmering ice sculpture gardens.

Courtyard The pristine central courtyard is covered in snow, a vast space dominated by the two most important gifts in IceWing history: the gifts of light and order. The Tree of Light's frost-kissed twigs, leaves, and branches are identical to that of a normal tree. It has eternal life, and its moon globes grow year-round, with a new bud growing on the tree immediately after a moon globe has been taken. Under the Tree of Light, there is a long path to where the wall of Circle rankings was. There are many windows in the palace that overlook the courtyard. It is often silver, empty, cold, and wet, speckled with strange shadows from the gift of light. Entrance There is a grand entrance to the palace: a set of crystal-studded gates about halfway up the central keep. They are carved in the shapes of giant dragon wings, matching the small ice sculptures of dragons, wings, and talons that top all of the columns and finials. It is possible to fly over the palace walls into the interior courtyards, but that is considered gauche and career suicide. According to IceWing protocol, visitors wait at the gates to be admitted. The palace also includes a vast entrance hall that leads to three arched openings leading to the central courtyard. The gift of elegance provides pale blue stars that seem to drift through the palace's otherwise bare, translucent walls. Up close, small, phosphorescent glass snowflakes are seen encased in the ice, glowing silvery blue as they fell, mimicking the weather outside

Miscellaneous There is a palace library containing a few old scrolls about the Diamond Trial. Winter's room was described to have one window overlooking the central courtyard, with a shelf of ice serving as a bed, a desk, and two warm, white polar bear rugs covering the floor. Narwhal was also mentioned to have personal chambers somewhere in the palace. Winter mentioned that the palace has a flight training tower. The throne room is grand, with several windows and a throne in its center. The palace has its own school that invites a few bright dragonets from the outer villages every year to compete for a chance to be admitted. If they work hard and do well, they can enter the circles.

Queen's chambers The queen's chambers are cluttered with miniature, unidentifiable ice sculptures, crafted by Mink. In the main chamber, a bed dominates the center of the room, a block of ice carved into whorls and drifts where a dragon body can fit perfectly. The space is also shared by a jewel cabinet, a polar bear rug by the window, and an icy bathtub in a separate room.

The Forbidden Treasury The Forbidden Treasury is known to few, and is only spoken of in whispers. It is buried in an ice cave deep beneath the palace, and the sole way to access it is through a secret passageway from the queen's royal chambers. Only queens and princesses are sure of its existence and are allowed to enter. To access it, a space at the foot of the bed must be pressed, and the queen's bed will shift aside soundlessly, revealing a hole underneath that plunges into endless darkness. The walls glitter, and after flying down a long, dark tunnel, the floor of the cave emerges as a smooth, glassy surface. A corridor stretches toward the treasury, and the walls are composed of the blackest ice, glittering with silvery filaments and bubbles when light hits them. The passage spirals in on itself and becomes smaller like a snail shell, with alcoves cut into the ice at eye level every few steps. The first two alcoves in the chamber are empty, but the third contains the gift of strength, with words carved into the ice beneath it that read 'THE GIFT OF STRENGTH. USE CAUTIOUSLY.' The fourth alcove holds a scepter, carved from dark blue rock and embedded with small diamonds, with an inscription reading 'THE GIFT OF COMPROMISE' and other unknown text that covers half of the wall under the alcove. The fifth alcove holds the gift of vision, and the sixth is empty, with its inscription violently scratched out. The seventh alcove is an oddity; it is not spaced evenly like the others, and looks hacked out of the ice instead of beautifully carved. The item inside is an unwearable piece of mystery silver, with its scribble-scratch writing underneath reading 'PART OF THE GIFT OF UNDERSTANDING.' The eighth alcove holds the gift of stealth.

The gift of order The gift of order was an animus-touched wall located in a central courtyard of the IceWing palace. There were seven circles of dragonet and adult rankings, and each day the queen was expected to re-order all of the dragons based on their performance in school, day-to-day life, and other considerations. After returning from Sanctuary, Queen Snowfall destroyed the wall using the gift of strength, much to the shock of Tundra and other IceWing traditionalists, after realizing that being sorted made dragons focus so much on their negative aspects that they couldn't see their positive aspects.

Disputed Tundra The far side of the Ice Kingdom's tundra is disputed territory between the Ice Kingdom and the Kingdom of Sand. IceWing villages All known villages in the Ice Kingdom are named as descriptive toponyms, all being long, hyphenated names to describe themselves. A list of known IceWing villages can be seen here.

Night Kingdom:

The lost city of night was located on the Talon Peninsula of Pyrrhia. It was characterized by vast canyons and ravines. Caverns and caves were carved into the rock. The city was surrounded by a range of sharp-edged mountains known to the IceWings as Darkstalker's Teeth. It was abandoned by the NightWings in fear of Darkstalker 's return. who fled to live on the NightWing island . Over time, the peninsula sank into the sea, and shrunk due to earthquakes, avalanches, tidal waves, and Darkstalker's magic. It was briefly inhabited by Darkstalker and some NightWings in Talons of Power and Darkness of Dragons but was later re-abandoned. In the modern period, it is full of ruined and unstable structures, including an abandoned theater. Constructed around the ruins of the old city is Renewal , a settlement led by Fierceteeth.

The lost city of night, also known as the Night Kingdom, is an ancient city that was inhabited by the NightWing tribe during the era of Darkstalker. It is located south of the Kingdom of Sand, on a peninsula known as the Talon Peninsula. The city was abandoned soon after Darkstalker publicly murdered his father Arctic, and was therefore quickly forgotten. For thousands of years, the majority of its landscape slowly sank into the ocean. It did not appear on any known Pyrrhian maps, and was only rediscovered when Darkstalker reinhabited it during the events of Darkness of Dragons. It was then re-abandoned for a time, but is currently inhabited by a small group of NightWings in the encampment known as Renewal.

The kingdom's terrain consists of a vast landscape of caverns and ravines, glowing with firelight and echoing with the flutter of wings. There are secret canyons and caves carved into the rock all across the terrain, some of them stretching towards the distant sea. The kingdom is surrounded by a series of sharp-edged mountains known to the IceWings as Darkstalker's Teeth

The bottom of the cliffs contained rivers and spaces for the lesser NightWing homes. The richer or more influential NightWing structures were built higher and are more skylit, closer to the stars and moons. The terrain is quite rocky, with canyons and outcroppings. Caves delve deep into the mountains, and the coast is lined with rocky black-sand beaches and littered with tide pools and half-flooded caves. There are also dragon-made lakes and dragon-planted forests. In modern Pyrrhia, the peninsula has become considerably smaller, damaged by earthquakes, avalanches, and tidal waves. Darkstalker began rebuilding the city with his animus magic before being transformed into Peacemaker. During its brief inhabitance by the modern NightWing tribe, firelight dotted the kingdom. On the edge of the cliffs, there is empty space where the land dropped sharply below them, veering down into a long rocky beach. It contains an enormous cave whose interior is a world of emerald green and vaulted ceilings. Phosphorescent moss and algae clings to the rocks and walls and stalactites, giving the cave an eerie glow that was matched by chandeliers of glowworms up above. Water drips softly, and a rivulet runs through the cave, connecting some tide pools and circumventing others. The cave becomes warmer and quieter the farther back it goes, and there is a tilted ledge of rock above one tide pool containing starfish and anemones. The sound of wind whistling through deep ravines can be heard throughout the kingdom.

Borderland Mountain Borderland Mountain is the mountain within the lower reaches of the NightWing palace. The area has a forest and a lake. Clearsight's home Clearsight's bedroom contained several scrolls and inkwells, and was quite messy the morning before she attended school. The home includes several rooms, at least one bookshelf, and a front entrance. The structure is built more than halfway down the cliffs of the city. The front entrance is bordered by a ledge, and there is a fireplace within the house. Darkstalker's home Darkstalker's home was described to have a pale blue door, which led into a sunlit room adorned with white rugs, glittering crystals, and a couch in the middle. One wall was lined with scrolls tucked into little niches. The kitchen was described to be "impossibly clean" and had tools in it that Clearsight had never seen and could not imagine how to use. There was a fireplace with a painting of the family done by Whiteout on the mantle, the picture painted in shades of blue and making the family appear more related than in real life

Great Diamond The NightWing school, the NightWing palace, a large museum, and a massive library make up the four corners of the Great Diamond. The Great Diamond is what the NightWings called the shape formed by the tribe's most important buildings. The palace and school were placed to the north, not far from each other, and the museum and library finished the shape toward the south. The palace was noted to be the largest of the four buildings. These four buildings formed a diamond-shaped plaza, hence its name. There was a temporary stage set up in the middle of the plaza for concerts. Miscellaneous There is a lunar hatching peak somewhere in the city. A structure neighboring Darkstalker's home was mentioned to have vines around the doorway. NightWing library Clearsight was noted to have a study room of her own within the library, inhabited with a blue ink puddle, five tables, and partially blank scrolls. It had a doorway.

NightWing palace The NightWing palace was the center palace for the NightWing tribe and was once inhabited by Queen Vigilance. The palace includes royal suites (one of which Fathom, Indigo, and hisbodyguards had stayed in), a throne room, a royal tower, and more. The palace was briefly ruled by Darkstalker when he became king of the NightWings and brought most of his tribe back to the lost city. However, he was soon defeated, and the tribe returned to the Rainforest Kingdom. It is part of the Great Diamond, made up of the palace, a school, a library, and a museum. The throne room is usually used for Queen Vigilance's parties. It is also the site of fights for enchanted armbands and appears many times in the futures seen by Clearsight and Darkstalker. There was mentioned to be a royal treasure room somewhere within the palace. The top spire of the palace had a prison set up for special prisoners. NightWing school The NightWing school was designed to look very similar to the NightWing palace, with lots of gray and black marble terraces, hanging gardens, and long glittering waterfalls. It has three entrances, and the quietest and least crowded was located on a side facing away from the NightWing palace. Its floors were made of marble tiles. Room 3A, one of the classrooms, was airy and full of light, with plants and water features everywhere that made it quite beautiful. There was a large glass cage containing two female scavengers, piles of grass, and a water dish. It contained a library, as well as a vast hexagonal courtyard that was lined with classrooms on all six sides. The courtyard was described as an obstacle course for flying practice, full of trees, twisting vines, loops, mazes, and tricks. The courtyard contains vines with heart-shaped leaves, pine trees, outdoor tables, and puddles. There is a long waterfall that leads to a pavilion on an upper level to the main office, occupied by Professor Truthfinder. The office contains a desk and piles of paper. Past the main office, there was a bustling corridor leading to a window that looked inward, towards the courtyard and the other levels of the school. It was surrounded by five towers. Four of these were regular dragon towers, with multiple levels open to the air and with pavilions on top. There are several levels of gardens where dragons gathered to socialize before the beginning of school. There are also places for future-seeing NightWings to practice making prophecies. North Beach North Beach is an expanse of beach at the north end of the Night Kingdom peninsula, rocky and pebbled, unlike the southern shores' smooth sandy beaches. It faced a bay with the Kingdom of Sand on the far side, just out of dragon eyesight but close enough that most NightWings avoided it. There are giant boulders strewn on the beach. It has also been noted that dragons have practiced swimming there. Renewal Renewal is a settlement located around the ruins of the old NightWing city. It was founded by Fierceteeth, Strongwings, Bonecruncher, and twenty-four other NightWings who are attempting to make it more habitable. It is full of unstable structures and gardens full of unedible plants. It also is home to an abandoned theatre. Darkstalker's Teeth: Darkstalker's Teeth is a mountain range that borders the lost city of night . It was mentioned in Darkness of Dragons and enchanted by Darkstalker two thousand years before in Darkstalker . Darkstalker created a shield that killed any IceWing trying to cross the area. However, Winter was able to pass through unharmed, due to wearing an enchanted earring that protected him against any of Darkstalker's spells. It was also enchanted so that Darkstalker, Whiteout , and Arctic could fly over unharmed. The mountains appeared to be sharp-edged[2] and jagged, ending with sheer cliffs along the ocean.[3] Those who cross the mountain range feel a buzzing shock[3][4] due to the border shield. There are bones sticking out of the earth[3] from IceWing corpses. NightWing Palace:

The NightWing palace is a structure within the lost city of night that was inhabited by Queen Vigilance , Clearsight , and several members of the NightWing court.

Historic era The palace was partially built into a mountain and had many towers, including a structure referred to as the Royal Tower and a top spire that contained a prisoner display. The hallways were made of black marble, imbued with mirrors every three steps.[4]Prince Fathom's guest suite had a large black door that closely resembled many of the other doors in the palace. There was also a fountain in the corner of the room, candles throughout the space, and a balcony. The throne room had a central dais that held the queen's throne. The palace also had its own library, including a librarian's desk and seemingly hundreds of scrolls. There was also mentioned to be a royal treasure room somewhere within the palace. There was a path from the throne room leading to the central courtyard. It was the heart of the palace and a series of grand ballrooms, gardens, and atriums with tall glass ceilings. One of the gardens featured ancient trees with moss and vines hanging down from the branches and mirrors set up throughout the garden to reflect the moonlight. Dragon-made ponds are not far from the palace.

Modern era In modern Pyrrhia, the palace ruins are massive and imposing, about five times as large as the Deep Palace, with dark chambers and a hallway that leads into a long colonnade encircling and overlooking a courtyard. Statues of dragons carved from black marble dot the courtyard, all of them with diamonds for eyes. The courtyard also contained a throne. The guest suite once inhabited by Fathom and Indigo is dusty and deserted. It is run-down, and the fountain, surrounded by a tiled pool, is in disuse. A blanket and Darkstalker's original soul reader also resided in this room until it was taken by Qibli. It had a balcony, a pile of cushions, an antique vase on a side table containing white flowers and water, beds, and dark green blankets. The throne room is at the end of a black marble corridor. It is empty. The top floor of the palace contains smaller council rooms with marble and cold stone floors. One of the rooms is empty, with a wall of open windows overlooking the ruined city below. The palace library has a scroll with the architectural plans of the palace lying on a table. It contains only one vast room, with several tables containing unrolled scrolls, and one large table in the middle. The dungeon entrance is located next to the royal throne room. The dungeons are behind a sinister iron door, coated with rust, with a handle and three heavy iron bolts studding the edge of the door, sealing it in place. The door leads into darkness, with a few stairs leading downwards

Kingdom of Sand:

The Kingdom of Sand makes up the "chest" or southwestern portion of Pyrrhia. It is characterized by its vast, scorching desert landscape and rolling dunes. The terrain is flat and adorned with numerous oases and oasis towns. The desert is also home to the Great Five-Tail River, which historically was a highly disputed territory between the SandWings and SkyWings. The dragon settlement of Possibility is located along the river.

The Kingdom of Sand is the home and territory of the SandWings , the desert-dwelling dragon tribe. It occupies the southwestern portion of the continent, stretching from the Claws of the Clouds Mountains of the Sky Kingdom , to the edge of the Ice Kingdom , the previous NightWing Kingdom , and the bordering parts of the ocean. The Kingdom of Sand is currently ruled by Queen Thorn.

The Kingdom of Sand is a hot, vast, endless, and empty expanse of sandy desert, surrounded by open sky and rolling dunes as far as the eye can see in every direction. It is large, wide, and flat, and is dotted with many oasis towns and small oasis ponds. It is covered in warm sand, and is dotted with several small desert pools and oases that have been described as tiny springs. The sand has been described to ripple like a pale ocean, and it is large and empty.

The Kingdom of Sand is full of brightsting cactus, the only known antidote to SandWing venom, and has many of it sold by almost every merchant in the Scorpion Den. There are several cities and oasis towns spread throughout the kingdom. Near Possibility, there is a sandstone arch that is located high on a butte to the west of the town. It loops out of the ground and back into in a shape like a RainWing tail, and the ground below it is consisted of hard rock. The land in between the Kingdom of Sand and the Ice Kingdom is barren wasteland

Disputed Tundra The far side of the Ice Kingdom's tundra is disputed territory between the Ice Kingdom and the Kingdom of Sand. Jerboa III's hut Jerboa III's hut is located on the northwest coast of the Kingdom of Sand. It is the home of Jerboa III, daughter of the original Jerboa. SandWing stronghold Queen Thorn's stronghold is used as a palace for the SandWings. SandWing royalty lives in the stronghold. It is designed to be less vulnerable to attack more than beauty and appearance. The stronghold used to look more menacing, with enemy heads on spikes and Burn's weirdling tower, but these features were removed in Thorn's reign. Scorpion Den The Scorpion Den is a famous city in the Kingdom of Sand. It is inhabited by lowlife SandWings and SandWing hybrids. The Scorpion Den is known to be full of assassins, thieves, con artists, and more, making it a dangerous place to live. During the War of SandWing Succession, dragons came to the Scorpion Den to avoid being pressed into service or hunted down by Burn, Blister, or Blaze. Prickle's hut Prickle's hut is a hut where Prickle lived before the SandWing soldiers caught her and she got imprisoned in the SandWing stronghold.

SandWing Stronghold:

The SandWing stronghold, also known as the desert dragon palace to humans, the main SandWing stronghold, and Queen Thorn's Stronghold, is a large palace complex located within the Kingdom of Sand. It was used as a military base during the War of SandWing Succession by Burn after the death of Queen Oasis.

The stronghold is a giant palace that looms out of the sand like a dark mountain. It is bigger than all of Valor and has many winding hallways, long stairways, tapestries, ballrooms, and feasting halls. There is a small slit of a window near the treasure room that is too small for dragons to go through, which Rose used to get inside and steal treasure from Oasis. There was a small barracks room with a stone table that was assigned to Six-Claws ' family. The palace also contained gardens that were surrounded by walls. It contains courtyards, balconies, and high palace towers. There were several sunlit great halls where Oasis hosted feasts and dances that contained torch holders. There were also mentioned to be baths and mirrors within the hall. Inside the stronghold, lizards, suns, and cacti were carved into the walls to give an unsettling feel of motion. The thick gates were flanked by two enormous statues of dragons roaring. There are billowing white curtains, mosaics with jeweled tiles, torches, and marble floors.

The palace has a history museum with a section for old gifts given during previous alliances with other tribes, including tapestries.[14] The palace also has a library.[15] Burn's era When Burn seized[16] the palace, she added thick walls[17] for extra defense[18] and stationed SandWing soldiers as guards.[13] There were also several dragon heads placed on spikes over the wall.[17] The foul stench from the decapitated dragon heads mounted on the outer walls discouraged enemies from attacking; Burn liked the decaying smell,[19] which could be scented for miles in all directions.[20] The stronghold also contains a courtyard, great hall, and corridors decorated with statues from when it was the palace of the SandWings.[21][22] A monument to Oasis was built where she died, and Burn had the walls of the stronghold extended to surround it.[23] There are oases in the stronghold.[24] Dragons slept beside overturned tables, with half-eaten antelopes and spilled flagons of agave nectar scattered around.[25] There was a vast throne room in which Burn would sometimes look at a giant map.[25] Thorn's era After Thorn became queen, she added a white tent next to the largest oasis to remind her of the Outclaws' old base,[26] which is her favorite room in the palace. The sounds of wind and the trickle of water can be heard, and pale yellow and pink lilies, as well as crimson flower petals from the trees above, drift across the surface of the pool. The tent is lit by the warm glow of oil lamps, and it smells like cinnamon and cardamom tea.[27] It is also occupied by shelves, a tasseled rug,[28] and large red pillows.[29] The decapitated heads on the outer walls were removed by the dragons observing the organized meeting between the royal SandWing sisters,[30] and the stone was scrubbed and scraped and painted until all traces of their blood was gone. Guards typically line the top of the wall, and lamplight glows in several of the windows. The monument towards Oasis still remains within the enormous white stone courtyard, surrounded by several gardens. The stronghold was built with lots of places to safely hole up during a sandstorm, with reinforced shutters and strong doors. Thorn's bedroom is somewhere within the stronghold. It includes a chest in a hidden compartment containing the Obsidian Mirror. There are also kitchens and a throne room, which are led to by covered passageways. Atop the tallest palace towers, there are tiled, roofed pavilions.

Dungeons The SandWing stronghold contains a lot of dungeons, which are connected to the palace stadium. A section of them can be accessed through a poorly lit, narrow passage that twists and angles downward. The walls are rough and scraped, and lanterns flicker from niches along the tunnel, casting small, jumpy shadows. The air smells odd, like a trove of decayed lizards buried under a floorboard and forgotten about for years. Farther down the tunnel, there are a series of locked gates and several armed guards, posted in pairs. A set of stone stairs leads into an antechamber with four tunnels branching out from it. There is a low shelf near the stairs that contains a lantern. The darkest tunnel leads to Prickle's prison, although the entire dungeon is nearly empty of prisoners in Thorn's era. Through the tunnels, cells line the walls, making space for a clear tunnel in the middle; a stench came from the holes in the floor, and scorpions scrabbled everywhere. Prisoners eat dried camel for food every day, and there are small, high-up windows. Great Hall The Great Hall has many doors and windows, as well as a threshold that contains large curtains. The upper windows include shutters. Kitchen The kitchen had copper pots and pans hung from the ceiling, and jars lined the shelves all along one side of the room. There were peers, and something that looked like eyeballs. There are net bags around the room. Rose often messes with the food inside. An unnamed female SandWing is the owner of the kitchen. Mausoleum The mausoleum is a dome that rises above most of the other palace buildings. It is where the ashes of former SandWing queens are kept. Oasis' memorial Oasis' memorial is a tall, black obelisk surrounded by a circle of sand wider than a large dragon's wingspan, with an epitaph written by Burn on the surface. It is located in the center of the main courtyard of the stronghold. On the surface of the monument, the following words are painted and carved in gold: HERE LIES QUEEN OASIS MOTHER OF QUEEN BURN HER BONES NOW BELONG TO THE SANDS OF TIME Observatory The observatory is a domed tower, open to the sky. It contains a telescope. Palace stadium The palace stadium is where duels for the SandWing throne have always been held. It takes up a back corner of the palace grounds. It is used within Thorn's era for games and moon festivals, and it is designed as an oval amphitheater, built of sandstone, with no roof. The benches rise like steps from the ground upwards, and at the top, sturdy poles can be folded out to add more places for audience members to perch. The walls at the bottom are typically covered in paintings from former moon festivals. The stadium has no royal box or special platform for royalty; Thorn usually sits wing-to-wing with her subjects. In the center of the far wall ringing the oval, there is a deliberate indentation, where the Eye of Onyx fits perfectly. Torches are lit all around the stadium. Treasury The treasury is a roofed space. It contained four rooms that were formerly filled with gems and gold. Weirdling tower The weirdling tower was a tower that was part of the stronghold when Burn ruled over it during the War of SandWing Succession. It contained her collection of "weirdlings," such as stuffed scavengers, three-legged lizards, and dead hybrids. It was mentioned that Burn would be interested in Six-Claws' talons. The tower was also the former prison for Scarlet after she was attacked by Glory and lost her throne. After Thorn ascended the throne, it was destroyed.[31]

Known items, dragons, and creatures of the weirdling tower

Pale stuffed scavengers Webbed SeaWing talons Several tongues with three forks instead of two A coil of tail with strange lichens growing on it Many oddly bent teeth and claws Seven-toed dragon talons Two-headed lizards A MudWing, hatched with no claws or teeth, whose egg was said to be animus-cursed A blood-red MudWing egg with a cracked shell An eerily sleek and snakelike white dragon, with stubs where wings should have grown and a horrifying look on its face. The seller claimed this dragon was an IceWing-SandWing hybrid.[60][61] A fish tank with "snails that ooze purple ichor, seahorses with fangs, fish with extra flippers, and a weird octopus with twenty arms" (This tank was kept after the tower was destroyed)[62] A stuffed NightWing (destroyed)[59] A tank with strange insects: "bulging caterpillars," "nine-legged spiders," "a bright blue dragonfly with bristles on its back," etc. (destroyed)[63] Half of a purple and gray speckled SilkWing wing[event 1][59] Skin of a dragonbite viper[59] Exhibits of misshappened claws, tails, and melted scales[64] Sky (escaped) Sunny (escaped) Scarlet (escaped)

Whispering Tower The Whispering Tower is a tall, thin structure that had been used by SandWing queens for hundreds of years to make speeches to the tribe. It is designed for perfect acoustics, so even dragons outside of the palace are able to hear its speaker.[65] Wingery Most dragonets in the palace played in the shelter of its walls until they were two years old, under the watchful eye of a pair of ancient SandWings who taught Oasis to fly. The wingery was open to anyone who lived in the palace, so the dragonets of servants and nobles all grew up together. The courtyard for the dragonets featured a sunken pool in the middle, where they could splash and cool off in the midday heat. This was overlooked by a shaded pavilion with long white curtains on the three open sides. The rest of the courtyard was set up to help the dragonets learn to fly: ledges at different heights, soft piles of sand to land in, claw holds, and perches everywhere. In one corner, there is a first aid station stocked with lots of brightsting cactus, which is the only antidote to the venom in a SandWing's tail. The venom does not come in until a dragonet was closer to three years old, but at this age, they had a tendency to crash into everything or leap onto their parents without looking first, so there was a lot of bandaging and antidote-administering required. The young dragons also spend a lot of time practicing how to be aware of their tails and everyone else's, so they could eventually be safely released into the rest of the palace. The indoor passageways of the Wingery are described to be cooler in temperature than that of the Kingdom of Sand's.

Scorpion Den The Scorpion Den , also known as the Terrifying Viper Pit of Dragons by humans , is a fortified town in the Kingdom of Sand . On the map of Pyrrhia , it is marked with an image of a scorpion. The den is home to mainly SandWings , who were trying to avoid the bloodbath of the War of SandWing Succession , and formerly Outclaws , an organization of SandWings that ran the city. It is a place full of dragon criminals who wished to hide from Burn , Blister , Blaze , and their troops. It is also populated by several hybrids . It has a mischievous and wild culture, as the competition to prey on new visitors is always fierce, and many residents often try to pick fights with one another

The Scorpion Den is a sprawling, walled city with winding alleyways, torn, faded canopies, and run-down stone buildings. The dusty streets are filled with rickety stalls and tents, most of which sell different types of merchandise. Almost every other stall sells water or brightsting cactus, the only known antidote to SandWing venom. The streets are dusty, crowded, and tight, as Sunny discovered when she tried walking through them with Six-Claws on her way to Thorn's tent. There is an oasis in the center of the town guarded by the Outclaws, in which young dragonets up to eight years can visit every morning for free meals. It is mainly inhabited by SandWings; however, Sunny spotted a couple of SkyWings and an IceWing, whom she notes must have been miserable in the heat. It contains several taverns, fortune-teller tents, lamp stores, streets, courtyards, and buckets of sand hanging from every wall as an easy means of putting out potential fires. It included hundreds of narrow alleyways that sometimes lead to dead ends.Dragonets were always racing around alleyways scrapping and shouting and tussling over trinkets or prey. Occasionally, dragonets bet on small games, like how long a mouse would last against a cat, etc.[11] It has been described to feel dark, crowded, and trapped. The town has several entrances composed of gates, which lead into a street lined with stalls, most of which are closed until morning. Morning scents drift from those that are open, roasting beetles and coffee mixing with the many, many much less pleasant smells in the air. Some dragons marked their territory, and dragonets boldly imitated them. The cobblestone streets are lined with gutters, and dragons are often lying within them. While Thorn was looking for Sunny, posters were put up all over the Scorpion Den, promising a reward for any information leading to the wherebouts of Morrowseer and Stonemover, for the present location of Dune, or for a dragonet, six years of age, with unusual features. Thorn's oasis The oasis is set in the middle of the Scorpion Den. It is shown to be large and is the source of water for the citizens of the town. When the Outclaws took over, they made their base on the oasis based on the belief that "she who controls the water controls everything." Some other dragons living in the Scorpion Den, such as Cobra, forbade their dragonets from coming to the oasis ever since the Outclaws took it over, for fear that they would be kidnapped or become an Outclaw. Qibli's home Qibli's home has torch sconces and carpets hanging from its walls that smell hot and musty, mingling with the scent of roasting coriander in the kitchen. Within one room, Cobra owns a single lamp. In another back room, where Cobra always met with her clients, there is a table with a scrawled sketch of a dragon's face on a document. The house also includes blankets and a vat of grain. It is nested in a neighborhood that is characterized by the smell of burning incense, flies constantly buzzing around the garbage, brightsting cactus plants bristling in baked clay pots hanging from the windows, and carmine-red scrawls of paint on the stone walls, where rivals marked their territory and dragonets imitated them boldly. An archway and a back gate lead to a run-down courtyard, surrounded by walls and outside alleyways. Vulture's compound Vulture's compound was described as one of the most well-fortified structures in Pyrrhia, lined with mines and traps. It is located in the Scorpion Den, and is home to Vulture and the Talons of Power. It is decorated lavishly with lots of gold, onyx, emeralds, and more. The deadly structure is complete with an observatory, pavilion, prison cell, oubliette, food storage, treasury, and more. Market The market is a busy area of the Scorpion Den. It is also where Bog first met Vulture and decided to work for him.

Known products at the market

Brightsting cactus Camel-hide pouches of water Crocodile stew Roasted scorpion Bags of crickets Fruit Fabrics Little blue dragons Black spheres Tea Dried herbs Candles Bejeweled metal figurines Lemonade

Orphanage The orphanage is the home of SandWing orphans from the war, the desert, or the Scorpion Den itself. Not much else is known about the orphanage, except that it was almost destroyed in a fire when an unknown dragon panicked and set an area up in flames when they thought they saw a dragonbite viper. The fire was stopped by the Outclaws and was revealed to be a hoax set by Addax, who set the fire and lied about the dragonbite viper because he wanted to kidnap Sunny and bring her to Burn to get his space back in her army.

Kingdom of the Sea:

The Kingdom of the Sea forms the "tail" of Pyrrhia. It is primarily made up of small islands, forming the archipelago known as the Bay of a Thousand Scales . It is characterized by vast stretches of ocean, featuring landforms such as white beaches, coral reefs, and kelp forests

The Kingdom of the Sea is the home of the SeaWings . It is mostly made up of small islands forming an archipelago called the Bay of a Thousand Scales . It holds two palaces; the Deep Palace and the destroyed Summer Palace , and once had the Island Palace in the time of Darkstalker . As of the end of Darkness of Dragons, another palace is under construction. It is currently under the rule of Queen Coral . The Kingdom of the Sea is mainly aquamarine and blue-green[1] expanses of ocean,[2] with speckled-sand[3] beaches,[4] white beaches,[5] tall sea cliffs, caverns,[5] underwater boulders,[6] coral reefs,[7] kelp forests, underwater caves,[8] sandy bottoms, peninsulas, and deep trenches. Rocky, sandy, or tropical wooded islands are spread out throughout the kingdom. The climate is warm, tropical, and rainy, and smells like wild, salty[3] sea air.[4] Some of the beaches are lined with dark foliage,[4] and mountains are visible in the distance.[9] On the border with the Sky Kingdom , there are sea cliffs, and the water is presumably colder in that area. The border with the Mud Kingdom is a sandy beach separating the sea from an area of forest. It contains several jungles[10] above water, and near the Deep Palace, there are lines of canyons[11] and trenches.

Bay of a Thousand Scales The Bay of a Thousand Scales is a spiral collection of islands that make up the "tail" of Pyrrhia. It is said to have thousands of them, hence the name The Bay of a Thousand Scales, making it easy to hide the Summer Palace under a vast canopy. It is a part of the Kingdom of the Sea and is therefore ruled by Queen Coral. Riptide meets the dragonets of destiny in the Bay of a Thousand Scales. Blister's hideout was also located here.[13] Coral is planning to build a palace on one of the islands that will include an auditorium, and is planning to make the palace open to all dragons from every tribe.[14

Summer Palace The Summer Palace was created by a SeaWing prince named Albatross. Albatross grew the twelve-story pavilion out of blue-tinted stone before losing his mind and causing the Royal SeaWing Massacre at the now-abandoned Island Palace. More recently, the Summer Palace was reconfigured for Blister and the SandWings to visit more easily.[15] A canopy hides the Summer Palace, so no other dragon tribe had been able to locate it until the events of The Lost Heir. The idea of camouflaging the palace with plants was Fathom's idea.[12] At the end of The Lost Heir, the Summer Palace was discovered by the SkyWings and MudWings after Crocodile secretly followed Webs to the palace. Burn's alliance launched an attack that destroyed the palace, resulting in the SeaWings fleeing to the Deep Palace, where they stayed for the remaining duration of the War of SandWing Succession. Blister and her army sent messengers to the ruins to see any sign of her ally until the end of the war.

Deep Palace The Deep Palace is home to the Royal Hatchery and is the Royal SeaWing family's main headquarters. The palace is built underwater out of coral and stone, in the middle of a canyon.[17] The SeaWings prefer the Deep Palace because it is deep underwater and impossible to reach, stay in, or be attacked by the other dragon tribes. There was a statue of Orca with her talons outstretched benevolently in the front entrance of the Royal Hatchery.[17] The statue was later destroyed when Tsunami discovered it was the mysterious assassin that murdered most of Coral's daughters. One of the palace's wings had been set aside for princes,[18] as they were not targeted by the statue.

Island Palace The only known function of the Island Palace was to host parties for ambassadors, shown in Darkstalker. On the map, the Island Palace appears to be slightly north of the Summer Palace. After the Royal SeaWing Massacre, the SeaWings mostly abandoned it, as many dragons were disturbed by the palace, thinking it was haunted. However, they still used it for the Talons of Power ceremony where they found animus dragons. During Talons of Power, it was the location that Anemone fought Turtle. In the epilogue of Talons of Power, Darkstalker cast a spell to haunt the Island Palace, leading to the SeaWings thinking that the spirit of Albatross had returned, this time to destroy all the SeaWings for good. In the epilogue of Darkness of Dragons, Turtle read a letter from Queen Coral, revealing that Turtle had successfully cast a spell to eliminate Darkstalker's fake Albatross ghost from the Island Palace and anywhere else on Pyrrhia

Deep Palace:

The Deep Palace is the underwater palace of the royalSeaWing family and other important SeaWings, located within the Kingdom of the Sea. It was constructed around the Royal Hatchery and is supposedly more magnificent than the Summer Palace. Queen Coral is there year-round, with the exception of when there is business requiring her at the Summer Palace, such as a visit from Blister before the end of their alliance. It is also where the Royal Hatchery is, along with the enchanted statue of Orca, until Coral destroyed it after Tsunami discovered that it had been animus-touched to kill off all the female heirs to the throne when nearby. Now, all of the SeaWings reside in the Deep Palace, as the Summer Palace was destroyed by the SkyWings and MudWings.

The Deep Palace is well hidden.[1] A vast expanse of white-and-green coral reef spreads across the sides and floor of an underwater canyon, curling into caves and towers and gardens full of glowing colors. In the center of the canyon,[2] the coral spirals up into an enormous palace. It contains windows and doors, as well as a wide front entrance composed of a coral cavern, sparkling with emeralds and sapphires. A statue of Queen Coral looms in the center, her talons outstretched benevolently.[3] An outcropping of coral is hooked near the front door. It was where Queen Coral hanged the bodies of SeaWings she killed for failing her.[4] Past the front entrance, a tunnel curves down and around in a spiral, with the water becoming warmer as dragons descend. Warm jets of water bubble up through the coral on the floor, and at the end of the tunnel, a stone door is present — the entrance to the Royal Hatchery.[5] Within the main hall, the floor is composed of rough coral, and is surrounded by outcroppings of more coral.[4] The palace is further composed of winding tunnels, cavernous rooms, emerald-studded coral, and pearl-laced curtains of golden sea grass.[6] There is also a back entrance into the palace, leading into a room that seems to be a workshop containing sea grass weavings[7] and marble carvings.[8] The palace's atmosphere is cool and dark,[9] and it is surrounded by underwater canyons.[10]

Bubble Jet Garden The bubble jet garden sits beyond one of the other gardens by the palace.[11] There are a few vents in the ocean floor that send jets of bubbles upwards, which dragonets like Auklet enjoy playing with.[11] Royal Hatchery The Royal Hatchery is located at the bottom of a tunnel leading from the Deep Palace's front entrance. It is a pristine hatching place designed for royal dragonets, and eating within the hatchery is strictly forbidden, as it can attract sharks.[7] The cave[12] is covered by a stone door, and inside the hatchery, warm jets bubble along every smooth[12] wall, heating the room. They were described to flow through tiny holes in the coral, surrounding the eggs in a bath of heat and small bubbles.[13] It is shaped like the inside of a large, pale egg, with smooth, polished floors,[13] and Orca's statue resided in the center until the events of The Lost Heir.[5] Nests made of seaweed are tucked into niches in the floor, with wide pathways stretching in between them.[14] Its interior is typically hot, still,[13] dark, and quiet.[15] Female and male eggs are separated on different sides of the hatchery, due to an animus enchanting it to separate them. According to Coral, SeaWing royalty have hatched there for thousands of years.[16] Unnamed classroom An underwater classroom appearing in Darkstalker, this space was used for teaching geography. It contained at least one window and a pink coral ledge circling the interior of the room.[10] The space was largely occupied by a large terrain model of the Kingdom of the Sea.

The Mud Kingdom is the home and territory of the MudWings. It forms the back of Pyrrhia which is right under the Sky Kingdom and next to the Rainforest Kingdom and the Kingdom of the Sea. Queen Moorhen currently rules the Mud Kingdom.

The Mud Kingdom is a vast marshy swampland[1] with clusters of mud structures made by MudWings.[2][3]Turtle describes it as dreary, swampy, and bog-riddled[4] while Jerboa described it to have gloppy,[5] endless swamps,[6] that emit an incessant sound of gurgling water.[5] The kingdom is mostly various forms of wetland, with rivers, including the Diamond Spray River, which feeds into the Diamond Spray Delta in the north. The Diamond Spray Delta is where the lowest-born MudWings are born, according to Kestrel.[7] The kingdom also contains areas of grassland[8] with a few trees here and there,[9] with some of the grasslands hypothetically being used for agriculture. All over the kingdom, there are MudWings hiding or sleeping in the mud.[10][11] There is also a delta and a ravine/fissure mentioned in The Dragonet Prophecy, where a battle took place between Blaze's army and the MudWings.[12] Where the Mud Kingdom meets the Kingdom of the Sea, the forest and ocean are separated by a strip of sandy beach. Where it meets the Rainforest Kingdom, there is an area of swampy, foggy forest that gradually transitions into the rainforest.

Queen Moorhen's palace Queen Moorhen's palace is the MudWing tribe's palace, where the queen and her siblings reside. It is located next to a large lake at the southern edge of the Mud Kingdom, about a day's flight from the rainforest.[14] Diamond Spray Delta The Diamond Spray Delta is known for being the home of the lowest-born MudWings. It was first mentioned by Kestrel in The Dragonet Prophecy. There is a path of dried dirt that runs through the delta's village. On either side, there are large mud puddles for MudWings to sleep and hunt in, as well as sleep houses. Sleephouses are tall mud towers that each MudWing troop sleeps in. Generally, one troop sleeps in a certain sleep house. Diamond Spray River The Diamond Spray River is a river that leads down from the Sky Kingdom to the Diamond Spray Delta.

MudWing Palace:

The MudWing palace is the palace in which the queen of the MudWings and her siblings reside in. It is where Queen Moorhen and her sibs currently reside.

The palace's location is approximately a day's flight away from the rainforest,[1] and is on a large lake[2] leading into the Diamond Spray Delta. It is located near the southern edge of the Mud Kingdom. Fatespeaker described the palace as being full of sunlight and blanket forts that are in nearly every room, built for at least six dragons to curl up together.[2] There is a library in the palace.[3] The Royal Hatchery in the palace has warm, mud walls with sunlight coming in from a hole that looked out over the lake.[4] The palace has a throne room

Rainforest Kingdom:

The Rainforest Kingdom forms the "hind leg" or southeastern section of Pyrrhia. It is characterized by its giant trees,[30] vibrant flowers,[31] tangles of vines,[30] and thick canopies of leaves.[30] After the NightWing Exodus , the NightWing village was constructed within the kingdom to serve as the NightWing tribe's new home.

The Rainforest Kingdom is a vast jungle that covers most of the southeastern part of Pyrrhia . It is occupied by the RainWings and most of the NightWings , and is currently ruled by Queen Glory.

The Rainforest Kingdom is wild and noisy;[1] it is a wild assault of greenery[2] and leaves,[3] consisting of many colorful birds, tall,[4] whispering trees, exuberant flowers,[5] tangles of vines, and a thick canopy of green leaves overhead. The sounds of howling, buzzing, and a waterfall can be heard in some areas.[6] There are many strange smells, as well as heat that is damp and sticky. There are giant spiderwebs everywhere,[7] and at least one river with oozing black mud, reeds, and a huge boulder along its banks.[8] A damp layer of leaves[9] and bracken[10] covers the forest floor, where it is cool and muddy.[11] Quicksand exists in some areas of the rainforest,[12] and the canopies are sunlit emerald-green and whirring with the whispers of tiny wings.[13] The ground is made up of dirt, tree debris, and tangled roots.

During the daytime, warm bursts of sunlight nudges through the leafy canopies.[14] At nighttime, the rainforest is filled with a cacophony of noises from birds, frogs, insects,[15] burps, gurgles, and rustling.[16] The air smells like jasmine,[17] mangoes, moss, river rocks,[18] the color green, mammals, bananas, and birds. The air is warm and buzzing, and the sunlight through the leaves is gentle and peaceful.[19] The trees are often wet from rainfall.[4]

Banyan Tree The Rainforest Kingdom includes a particularly large banyan tree, located a short flight away from the royal pavilion. It is an enormous, fat tree with bulging branches and knobby roots sticking out from the undergrowth.[20] Its roots, some as fat around as a dragon, extend far, all the way to a wall of bushes where the forest floor begins sloping up.[10] NightWing tunnels The NightWing tunnels are a pair of enchanted tunnels that were created by Stonemover. The first tunnel leads to the Kingdom of Sand; the hole is in a large boulder that is partially covered with a moss curtain.[21] The second tunnel leads to the NightWing island. The hole is located high up a huge tree, and it is difficult to see from below.[22] The passages were created to allow the NightWings (as well as Blister's forces) easy access to the rainforest for a potential takeover invasion. NightWing village The NightWing village is the primary home of the NightWings, and it neighbors the RainWing village. When Winter went to the village, half-built and ramshackle huts made up the clearing.[23] However, the village is currently being expanded by Mightyclaws with the use of his animus touched diamond earring, which allows him to transform anything he draws into reality. Currently, half the houses in the village had been created with his magic.[24] RainWing royal pavilion The RainWing royal pavilion is a pavilion that was constructed recently under Queen Glory's reign. It is located halfway between the NightWing village and RainWing village, and is used for official business regarding the two tribes. RainWing village The RainWing village is the home of the RainWing tribe. It consists of structures and buildings such as treehouses,[25] platforms, walkways,[26] and pavilions, such as the RainWing healer's pavilion. There are three hatcheries[27] and an arboretum[28] located within the village, and it neighbors the NightWing village. RainWing wingery The RainWing wingery is a large play area for RainWing and NightWing dragonets. It is well-fortified[29] and guarded, and it consists of a trampoline made of vines and soft woven mats that prevent dragons from falling over the edge.[30] It is close to the RainWing royal pavilion.[29]

RainWing royal pavilion: The RainWing Royal Pavilion is built halfway between the NightWing village and RainWing village , and is used for official business regarding the two tribes. It was built under Queen Glory after the NightWing Exodus . The RainWing royal pavilion is a vast platform built up in the air, upon a circle of branches from tall, overlapping trees. It sits about halfway between the forest floor and the treetops, and it has a roof made of translucent green leaves that sits atop wooden columns, so that the pavilion is open to the air[1] but sheltered from the rain. Purple and blue morning glories hang like bells from the vines that wind around each column. The pavilion has a clawmarked wooden floor and an interior that is nearly empty. Two scroll racks stand on either side of a simple raised dais that sits only a few inches higher than the rest of the platform.[2] There is a flat rock within the pavilion that is used to write on.

It is characterized by cliffs,[33] mountains,[34] rivers,[34] lakes,[35] forests,[34] and valleys.[36] The mountains, most notably the Claws of the Clouds Mountains, are often shrouded in mist.[37] It is separated from the Mud Kingdom by the Winding Tail River . The dragon settlement of Sanctuary is located within the Sky Kingdom, in the foothills of the Claws of the Clouds Mountains.[38] Numerous human settlements are located in the Sky Kingdom, including the Indestructible City and Talisman . The Sky Kingdom is a kingdom in Pyrrhia and home of the SkyWings . It is located on the "wing" and part of the "torso" of the dragon -shaped continent of Pyrrhia. It stretches across the entire northeast and center, reaching to the outskirts of the Mud Kingdom , the Kingdom of Sand , the Rainforest Kingdom and the Kingdom of the Sea . It was formerly ruled by Ex-Queen Scarlet , and is currently under the reign of Queen Ruby . The Sky Kingdom consists largely of cliffs,[1] mountains,[2] rivers,[2] lakes,[3] forests,[2] and valleys.[4] The mountains are often shrouded in mist The Sky Kingdom consists mostly of mountains, with temperate forests and some meadows in the lower areas. There are several lakes and rivers, and the areas to the north are snowy and home to boreal forests. Numerous caves run beneath the kingdom. The Sky Kingdom is located in central and northern Pyrrhia and it contains the Claws of the Clouds Mountains, the SkyWing palace to the far north, Jade Mountain, and the cave where Kestrel, Webs, and Dune raised the dragonets of destiny for six years. The Winding Tail River separates the Sky Kingdom from the Mud Kingdom. The area around the river is covered by rocky sloping hills leading to the river plain and north towards Possibility. The landscape there is flatter and contains groves of trees and scraggly clumps of wishful forest.[6] Southwest of the SkyWing palace,[7] there is a valley that is dotted with clumps of small white flowers.[4] There are mountains and rivers, as well as lakes, in the valley.[3] On one side of the lake, there is a wreckage from a rough structure. Long branches stripped of their leaves are scattered across the ground, and vines still tied in knots lay in crushed piles. The whole mess is covered in ripped up flower petals of roses, violets, and daffodils.[3] There is a forest bordering the lake, as well as dirt, shrubs, and streams. The grass waves peacefully, the quiet trees are full of fruit, and it seems as though no dragon talons have ever disturbed it. There is a large, mountainous eye-shaped rock formation overlooking the valley, as well as mountain crags and folded, crooked peaks.[8] There is a stretch of rocky slope leading up to a peak, where several flat ledges and outcroppings overlook the valley. There are several boulders and shrubs. Clay described how the war had "slashed this kingdom with sharp talons" while Queen Scarlet was reigning, as he spotted collapsed towers, scorch marks along many walls, and a ravine half full of dragon bones.[9] A short flight from the SkyWing palace, there is a gap between two mountain peaks that leads into a quiet,[10] mossy valley dotted with sheep.[11] The meadow also contains patches of ivy, trees,[12] small yellow flowers, and at least one boulder.[13] Far south of the SkyWing palace, there is a part of the mountains that are jagged with canyons and steep ravines. At the bottom of one ravine, there is cave deep enough to crawl into and light a fire without anyone being able to see.[14] The interior of the cave contains ledges.[15] At the very south of the Sky Kingdom is Jade Mountain, the tallest mountain in Pyrrhia, and the location of the Jade Mountain Academy. There is rumored to be a "dragon of Jade Mountain," which is friendly to the Talons of Peace, that was later revealed to be Stonemover, Sunny's NightWing father, and Thorn's former partner in The Brightest Night. The Diamond Spray River begins at the base of Jade Mountain, in which the SkyWing palace rests and flows through the middle of SkyWing territory. The Kingdom of Sand borders it in the southwest, while the Ice Kingdom is northwest. Assuming that the SeaWings rule the entire northern ocean, the Sky Kingdom also borders the Kingdom of the Sea to the northeast. Numerous scavenger dens have been reported in the Sky Kingdom.[16] The Indestructible City, one of the most well-known scavenger dens, notorious for their fortified walls and tendency to fight back against dragons, which is located near a bend in the Winding Tail River and west of the Mud Kingdom, and Talisman, which used to be a den for four treasure smugglers, going by the names of Trout, Gorge, Crow, and another currently unnamed human, which is located by the Claws of the Clouds Mountains and overlooking a river that directly leads to the SkyWing palace.

Queen Ruby's palace Ruby's palace is located in the upper segment of the Sky Kingdom and is described as a huge fortress carved from a mountain. More tunnels are blasted out every day by SkyWing subjects, with half of the palace inside the mountain, and the other half is open to the sky and heavily defended. The castle is said to be damaged from battle, with collapsed towers and scorch marks from fire attacks. Clay, Tsunami, and Starflight had been taken there in the time of Queen Scarlet and the palace had been described with gold talon prints, gold veins on the walls and floors, and the throne room "as if a giant dragon had stumbled around the room, vomiting gold all over the place."[17] It is noted in Escaping Peril that all of the gold has been removed by the order of Queen Ruby. It is also the home of the SkyWing Royal family. Gladiator Arena Dragons captured in battles against the SkyWings were sentenced to fight in gladiator battles to the death in a huge, bowl-shaped arena. A fight was held almost every day for Queen Scarlet's amusement. The prisoners were kept on tall rock spires with no bars, spread out in a circle around the perimeter of the arena. The dragons were held down by metal clamps, and wires that are wound around their limbs stretch across the arena, connecting all of the prisoners. Dragons were promised freedom after a set number of arena victories. This never occurred, due to Scarlet's champion Peril being sent to fight any dragons who surpassed three or four wins.[18] SkyWings, MudWings, and sometimes SandWings watched from stands. Occasionally, the gladiators fought groups of captured scavengers. Some prisoners have even tried to commit suicide (Horizon) rather than continue to fight. The arena is currently being used as a hospital for war veterans and wounded soldiers.

SkyWing palace: The SkyWing palace , also known as the Mountain Dragon Palace by humans , is located in the northern part of the Sky Kingdom . The palace formerly housed Ex-Queen Scarlet and Peril , and currently houses Queen Ruby , Prince Cliff , Prince Vermilion , and countless other SkyWing subjects.

The SkyWing palace consists of stone[1] towers, turrets, and spires jutting through the fog[2] and clouds around the mountain peaks like long spindly claws.[3] The towers appear to grow out of gray-black rocks, and every ledge was an entrance to caves and holes carved out of the mountainside.[4] The tallest spire is the chimney of the crematorium, which carried the smoke of burning bodies.[5] The second tallest spire is a lookout area for the guards near the outer wall of the palace. At the top of the tower was a small pavilion with room for five or six dragons to fit comfortably. A shallow hole in the floor was intended as a fire pit, for heating the tower when it was cold or for cooking prey. The walls were open on all sides, but the position of the tower was directed west, to watch for attacks from IceWings or SandWings .[6] A trash chute led from the palace to the ground below the mountains.[7] The palace is usually very busy, with dragons flying from tower to tower, coming in with reports, or sailing out with messages. The palace flutters with activity, and wingbeats fill the air.

The interior consists of the Great Hall in the center and several levels of railless balconies[8] all around it, a huge hole in the roof above, and windows open to the sky everywhere. Fires burned in many of the rooms off the balconies, giving the whole place a glow and a charred smell.[9] The SkyWing arena and prison once rested within sight of the palace, along with fallen towers, scorched land, and ravines full of burned up dragon corpses and bones[4] as products of the War of SandWing Succession.[10] Gold traces, talon prints, and outlines of flames and clouds are carved in the stone of the floor, and Ex-Queen Scarlet's throne room was said to contain massive amounts of gold in it, giving it the oppressive heat of a funeral pyre.[11] Most of the gold was pried out of the walls during Queen Ruby's reign to fund the hospital.[12] The central hall leads to the kitchens.[13] A trapdoor beneath the kitchen leads to the prey center, where SkyWings keep prey that they use for feasts.[14] An unnamed SkyWing is the owner of the kitchens.[15] The palace has many winding[16] tunnels and arches, one leading to the arena (now a hospital). The SkyWings constantly added extensions and repairs to the palace

Dragonet wingery The dragonet wingery's opening is located high in one of the towers. Murmurs of small voices drift through the windows,[17] and the interior consists of an enormous space full of SkyWing dragonets. The youngest dragons play-fight on the floor, far below the entrance, where padded black and gold rugs overlap. Toy weapons are scattered around them, including blunt spears and dented shields leaning haphazardly against balls, attack dummies, and toy cooking supplies stacked with half-chewed goat bones and other snacks. Slightly older dragonets swarm the walls and climbing structures above the rugs, busily clambering along fake rocky outcroppings and gradually higher and higher platforms. The highest levels are closer to the ceiling, and are used for flying practice, with longer spaces to cross with each leap,[18] ropes to catch on midflight, and obstacles to practice swerving around. The walls within the wingery are not as embellished with gold and jewels as the rest of the SkyWing palace. Instead, the room is full of light and air from windows and skylights, most of which were barred, especially on the lower levels. The only decoration is a portrait of Scarlet five times the size of the real queen, which covers a huge swathe of wall.[19] There is also a perch at the peak of the tower, on a winding branch carved from wood. It twists across the roof as though it is a finish line for dragonets trying to reach the top.

Supply closet Down the hall from the wingery is a supply closet. The closet is small, but big enough that Jasper could stand inside of it with the door closed. There is a torch in the closet that could be lit to illuminate the room. There are several shelves in the closet, one lined with games, and another with art supplies. In the back of the closet is a bundle of cloth that the dragonets use to play parachute. Half of the toys in the closet were made or purchased by Jasper.[21] Great Hall The Great Hall is the main chamber of the SkyWing palace, with multiple levels of it leading to many different halls,[22] rooms, and balconies. There is an open roof[23] or hole within the roof of the keep.[1] The roof let out onto a rocky mountaintop with dizzying views of peaks all around them; small little scrub bushes clung to the dirt here and there, but mostly it was all rocks — long overlapping shelves of gray rock and lumps of boulders like giant stone eggs, including a boulder that was taller than most.[24] The Great Hall is often busy with dragons hopping across the great space, exchanging small message scrolls in midair, carrying buckets of water, clean animal skins, or platters of food, and dodging wings and tails as they went.[25] The top level of the Great Hall used to reverberate with the shrieks of burning dragons and roars of the arena, but has changed to become a place for SkyWings to dance, sing, celebrate, and party in Ruby's reign.[26] There is a prison at the bottom of the Hall, which was commonly thought of as the lowliest prison in the SkyWing palace.[22] It consists of a grate[22] of thick metal bars and chains to hold prisoners in place. Peril burned a hole through the prison cell as of The Dragonet Prophecy in attempt to rescue Kestrel. Herb garden The herb garden is a walled scape open to the sky, past a gate near the kitchens. The garden consists of neat beds surrounded by stone pathways. Some of the beds are lined with prudent skulls, signifying that they are dangerous. Some herbs that are grown are basil, mint, and rosemary. Throughout the garden are hedges that are taller than a dragon, which make it easier to stay out of sight from anyone watching from the palace windows. The garden is not friendly, and the kitchen dragons say that it is haunted. There is a breeze in the garden.[21] Between a tall hedge and a side wall of the garden, out of sight of any palace windows, there is a gap that a dragon could fit through where a rock could be rolled aside to reveal a hole. The hole leads into a tunnel big enough for a dragon to crawl through, that ends in Jasper's rooms. Jasper's rooms Jasper has two rooms; one for sleeping and one adjoining used for cooking, eating, and hosting guests. Jasper converted his second room into a workroom with a table for building and repairing broken wingery toys. There is also a firepit for cooking, and a couch with a gold-patterned cushion with patterns of dragonflies in this room. The tunnel in his rooms leads to the herb garden.[21] Library The library is quiet and private. It is lined with small inkpots,[27] scroll jars, desks, and wooden sculptures of trees.[28] Prisoner towers Around one hundred[29] prisoner towers encircled the SkyWing arena. According to Scarlet, they took ages to build, but were removed by Ruby after she became queen.[30] SkyWing arena The SkyWing arena is directly outside of the palace, in the northern Sky Kingdom. It was a bowl of rock with sand at the bottom and sheer walls.[29] Prisoners of war were forced to fight to the death here for Scarlet's entertainment. Scarlet kept various competitors, including scavengers, dragons, and other creatures. The dragon prisoners mainly consisted of IceWings, SeaWings, and SandWings who were loyal to those other than Queen Scarlet or Burn. The prisoners were locked up on towers in the sky, locked up with metal that was impervious to fire and frost breath. The winner was free to go if he or she won enough fights and defeated Peril. However, because of Peril's deadly firescales, no one ever succeeded in defeating her. The arena had a tradition called the "Champion's Shield", wherein the current arena champion may fight for any condemned prisoner's life. The queen chooses their opponent, and if the current Arena Champion wins, the queen must spare the condemned prisoner's life. If the champion loses, the queen can execute the prisoner. Ruby later turned the arena into a hospital, making space for healing supplies[23] and wounded soldiers.[12] During the reign of Queen Firestorm, the arena was used to host parades, art shows, dance performances, and beauty contests. Dragons from all over Pyrrhia were invited to compete. Spectators Spectators mostly include SkyWings; however, during the War of SandWing Succession, MudWings have been known to watch, as well as a few "honored SandWing guests". They watched from rows of benches, balconies, and caves above the arena walls.[29] Other prisoners also watched battles from the spires they had been chained to. The spectators typically shout for death, but do keep justice and honor in mind. Spectators can throw treasure at combatants, the way small jewels were thrown at Tsunami when she won Throne room In Scarlet's era, the throne room's floors were made of grooved rock,[33] and its walls were inlaid with gold. Ruby thought that entering it was similar to walking into a funeral pyre; oppressive heat and the smell of dragon fire.[11] It used to have so much gold inlaid[34] that walking into it on a bright day might induce a headache, but Ruby removed at least half the gold after becoming queen, leaving only wisps of cloud shapes here and there.[12] It includes a lower visitor's throne, while the SkyWing queen's throne is consisted of a tall column carved in the shape of clouds. The wall opposite the throne is open, so the queen can see a sweeping view of the kingdom.[35] It was often filled with dragons,[36] and had dragons standing guard outside.[22] Tourmaline's bedroom Tourmaline's room was described to contain piles of blankets, scrolls carelessly tossed aside, and gold-tasseled yellow curtains flapping at the window.

Agate Mountain Agate Mountain was the tallest mountain in Pyrrhia before it collapsed. It was located within the Claws of the Clouds range and was introduced in Darkstalker . It contained a small cave that imprisoned Darkstalker for approximately 2,000 years. Agate Mountain was located to the far east of the lost city of night .[1] It was the tallest mountain in the Claws of the Clouds range, and contained a small cave. It rested near Jade Mountain above several valleys,[2] and was surrounded by small yellow wildflowers growing out of the dirt.[3] The cave where Darkstalker was imprisoned ended in a small chamber, with solid granite on all sides. The entrance was filled with boulders by Clearsight ,[4] and the mountain was destroyed by an avalanche soon afterwards.[5] Before its collapse, it was the tallest mountain in Pyrrhia In modern Pyrrhia, Agate Mountain has been reduced to a gaping maw in the earth, described to appear as a mouth studded with rocks and drooling splintered trees. The crevasse goes too deep underground to see the bottom from the surface, and the walls narrow as the crevasse becomes deeper.[6] From the bottom of the gorge, the light fades to a small strip of brightness overhead, and the stone is smooth and cold. It contains several outcroppings along the walls, as well as a small crawl space. All around the crawl space, there are hundreds of claw marks within the stone — some firm and bold, others tiny and slanted to fit in around the others. A discarded scrap of rusty metal wires lies near the opening, frayed and looped around a trio of misty white gemstones, along with a smooth mouse skull the size of a dragon tooth.[7] There is an enormous crack at the side of the mountain, broken open in Darkstalker's wake,[8] and the western side of the mountain is consisted of a grassy slope.[9] It also has giant rocks,[10] narrow ravines, and boulders,[9] with one ravine supporting a tree growing out of it at an angle

Claws of the Clouds Mountains The Claws of the Clouds Mountains are a mountain range stretching across Pyrrhia from the north coast to the south coast. It serves as the main territory of the Sky Kingdom as it supports the SkyWing palace and most of the SkyWing tribe. The Claws of the Clouds Mountains lurk like the long, long spine of a giant sleeping dragon , black except where the craggy peaks are studded with light.[1] They cut into the air and were described to look like jagged teeth

The ancient Beetle Kingdom and Leaf Kingdom shared a border with each other, as well as with the Sky and Rain kingdoms. The border between their kingdoms had forests and was home to a settlement called Harmony .[39] After the assassination of Queen Falcon , the two tribes fled Pyrrhia for Pantala, while others were imprisoned on the Dungeon Isle , causing their territory to be split between the Sky and Rain Kingdoms.

Leaf Kingdom: The Leaf Kingdom was the territory of the LeafWings in Pyrrhia around 2,000 AS. After Bloodshed threatened to destroy Harmony , the BeetleWings and LeafWings left Pyrrhia, abandoning their old kingdoms. Diamond Spray Delta: The Diamond Spray Delta is a delta located at the end of the Diamond Spray River , on the east coast of Pyrrhia and the border of the Sky Kingdom and the Mud Kingdom . It was first mentioned by Kestrel in The Dragonet Prophecy According to Kestrel, the Diamond Spray Delta is where the lowest-born MudWings live.[1] The delta has lots of mud puddles and sleephouses for the MudWing troops. Sleephouses are tall, dry mud structures that the dragons sleep in.[2] The Delta splits up the Diamond Spray River and lets it out into the sea near the Kingdom of the Sea . The territory is part of the Mud Kingdom and it is overall similar to the Mud Kingdom in terms of climate. One part of the Diamond Spray Delta has a forest that crowded up to the ocean, leaving only a strip of pebbled beach populated by seagulls and seals.[3] In terms of geography, it is northwest of the Mud Kingdom, southeast of the Sky Kingdom, and southwest of the Kingdom of the Sea. The Delta itself is the border between the Mud Kingdom and the Sky Kingdom. The Delta also has a current as it empties into the ocean.[4] At the coast of the Delta, the water flows in between large island rocks most likely split from the continent by the water eroding them. The river pushes the water south-east to form the Delta. It was described to glitter like molten silver in the moonlight. Great Five-Tail River: The Great Five-Tail River, sometimes referred to as the Great River, is a vast, murky, vein-like river stretching from the desert to an unnamed delta. According to the history scrolls, the area is the most disputed piece of territory in all of Pyrrhia, as the SandWings and the SkyWings have fought over the land around the river for centuries. However, the area currently remains peaceful, as Queen Ruby and Queen Thorn are at peace.[1] Over the course of the War of SandWing Succession, small towns on either side merged together to form the single town of Possibility. The Great Five-Tail River is a vast green-blue-brown vein stretching from the desert to the delta. There is a SandWing settlement on the western side of a river that slowly merges with the SkyWing village on the eastern side. A wide, white stone bridge lined with shops is built across the river.[1] There are islands in the river.[2] Animals • Camels[3] • Crocodiles[4] • Flies[4] • Grasshoppers[5] • Goats[6] • Hippopotami[2] • Humans[7] • Lizards[8] • Seagulls[9] • Snails[10] Plants • Carrots[11] • Coconuts[5] • Ferns[12] • Flowers[13] ◦ Trumpet flowers[14] • Palm trees[2] • Reeds[15] • Shrubs[12] • Vines[12] Jade Mountain: Jade Mountain is a mountain marked at the bottom of the Map of Pyrrhia . There is a boulder by the cave entrance, and curved walls.

Winding Tail River:

The Winding Tail River is a river located within the southern half of the Sky Kingdom The Winding Tail River is a silver[1] river that begins high in the Claws of the Clouds Mountains and runs along the eastern edge of the mountain range,[1] past Jade Mountain , and into the sea. Near a bend in the river[1] and west of Queen Moorhen 's Lake, there is a scavenger den that is believed to be the largest in Pyrrhia .[2] The river is surrounded by pebbled sand,[3] mountains, and forests.[2] There are tiny, golden, silver fish in the river,[4] as well as prey that is rumored as much easier to catch than the humans Bay of a Thousand Scales: The Bay of a Thousand Scales is a spiral of islands that make up the "tail" of the dragon -shaped continent of Pyrrhia , and could be considered to be an archipelago. It is said to have hundreds of islands, making it easy to hide the Summer Palace among them. It is the only landmass in the Kingdom of the Sea , and is ruled by Queen Coral . The bay is also home to the ruins of the Summer Palace, which were enchanted centuries ago by Albatross , an animusSeaWing , to grow on its own from a rock. In addition, it is home to the Deep Palace and the location of the Island Palace . The SeaWings are currently working on a new palace that is not hidden and will be used for diplomacy and Queen Coral's scroll readings. The Bay of a Thousand Scales is composed of vast expanses of clear,[1] empty ocean, dotted here and there with solitary outcroppings of rock.[2] Green-and-white islands glow like scattered jewels in the ocean. Several of them are shaped like claws, curving neatly through the water.[3] Some of the islands are small patches of sand, barely big enough for a dragon to land on, and others are composed of towering, jagged rocks shooting out of the water.[1] The Bay is circled by a spur of land that resembles a dragon's tail, becoming narrower as it reaches the end. There are palm trees,[4] islands,[4] coastlines,[5] beaches, and cliffs.[6] These islands also contain several human settlements that were described to look like miniature castles surrounded by small fortresses and several fires.[6] There is a sea breeze.[7] An island that was used by Blister as a soldier encampment was described to be a wildly overgrown[8] jungle,[9] with a hollow between several fallen trees, palm fronds, and tree trunks.[10] Through a break in the jungle, there is a lagoon[9] that is overlooked by a shadowy tree[11] containing bushes, spiderwebs,[12] and large bird nests.[13] The SeaWing palaces are located in the Bay of a Thousand Scales, and they are also the home to some more private dragons that live by themselves. Outer Isles The Outer Isles are a part of the Bay of a Thousand Scales.

Dragon Villages:

Harmony was a village in the forests bordering the Beetle Kingdom and the Leaf Kingdom that existed over 3,000 years ago. It acted as a refuge for hybrids and dragons of every tribe. Possibility: Possibility is a large town on the Great Five-Tail River. It originally consisted of a SandWing settlement on the west side and a SkyWing village on the east, but the two sides slowly merged together over the War of SandWing Succession to form Possibility.[1] Hundreds of dragons from all seven Pyrrhian tribes occupy the town, and many of Queen Ruby's soldiers patrol the streets. Possibility consists of a wild flat[3] and sandy landscape dotted with palm trees to the south, muddier banks farther north, and thicker greenery near the town and the delta.[2] Canyons, hills, and mountains surround the town.[4] Early in the morning, merchants can be seen unrolling carpets or setting out steaming trays of food on the wide white stone bridge that crosses over the Great-Five-Tail River.[5] The smell of baking bread and cooking meat may waft through the streets,[6] and the sounds of hammers, the clattering of mugs, music, and voices calling out to one another can be heard.[7] Dragons of Possibility are often active, even when the sun is barely up,[8] and it is considered a safe place that is full of dragons. The outskirts of Possibility sweep up on either side of the riverbank. It is filled with smaller dwellings of dragons who have recently moved to the city, including a family of SeaWings on the bank[10] and a family of MudWings farther downstream. Their home contains a garden containing a crooked furrow and carrots. More islands begin to dot the river as it widens and the current slows, sometimes trailing into wandering streams or muddling about in clumps of tall reeds. A bridge crosses over the water that is packed end-to-end with merchants.[11] The next bridge glows with bright colors and shakes with thumping talons and dragons dance along it and music vibrates the water. Beaten silver circles hang from the railings and under the bridge like giant coins.[12] Past the Full-Moon Festival bridge, Possibility seems to have older, bigger, sturdier buildings set around open cobblestone plazas. The palm trees look more deliberately placed, casting strategic patches of shade, and bright yellow trumpet flowers swarm along dark green vines that seem to be tangled everywhere.[13] The plaza is cluttered with wares spread on carpets and flowers growing out of window boxes.[14] Possibility's structures are spread in a haphazard, lazy way, some with gardens planted around them, some pressed up against a crowded row of other buildings.[7] Many of the buildings are wooden and very close together.[15] There are lots of buildings, more than one market square, bridges over the river, dragons washing things in the water, and fruit trees in pots in the courtyards.[8] One large building has pictures of tumbling, acrobatic dragons painted on one side.[16] Some are magnificent towers, but others are barely more than mud huts. The town has walls painted with scale patterns,[8] cascading fountains, and several bejeweled statues of stone dragons, but there was also a bloated crocodile carcass and a blackish red puddle that resembled blood in the streets at one point.[7] In one alley, someone had also scrawled 'desert-munchers go home!', and a MudWing sat on a corner with one leg wrapped in bandages and his wings drooping. A hollow coconut half shell sat next to him, into which someone had dropped a couple of pitiful fried grasshoppers.[16] A big sandstone arch towers in the west, set high enough so that one can almost see the whole Kingdom of Sand.[17] There is a small oasis on the western side of the river, where buildings began to shift into farmland.[18] An alley opens a path out of the city, though it was full of abandoned houses with black-and-yellow flags fluttering out in the front.[19] Near Mayfly's house, there are fig trees that give way to a street at the far end of Mayfly's garden that is crowded with dragons and rolling carts.[20] Possibility has a clinic, where Kinkajou was transferred after being examined by Mayfly.[21] It is also occupied by at least one member of the Enclave, an organization that seems to have a fair amount of authority within the town. Library Possibility includes at least one library. It contains scrolls from all the tribes, including an ancient RainWing scroll revealed to be a letter from over two thousand years ago.[23] It is managed by a stern SkyWing librarian with a pinched voice.[24] Mayfly's house Mayfly's house is a compact structure with walls of whitewashed bricks and a roof of dried reeds. A small green flag hangs on the wall next to the door, with the word 'doctor' printed neatly on it.[16] There are bright yellow flowers around the base of the house, and a window in at least one wall that is big enough to fit two dragonets' heads inside. The interior consists of at least one round, sunlit room, clean and uncluttered. There is no furniture except for a large white table in the center and a few shelves on one wall with neatly labeled bottles and jars.[25] Mayfly also owns small scrolls and inkpots[26] containing black ink.[21] At the back of the house, there is a riot of greenery that seems to be trying to vault over the roof.[27] Seven trees ring Mayfly's backyard, each of them filled with various fruits and flowers. Vines scale the back wall of the house, covered in blue and gold flowers,[28] and several bushes cover almost all of the ground space. In the center of the backyard, there is a glass tower filled with overflowing flowerpots and seed trays on each level, piled up as high as the treetops. It contains a plant that looks like purple dragon tongues. Fierceteeth is in charge of the settlement and it is home to twenty-seven NightWings. The encampment is located within the ancient Night Kingdom and is surrounded by dangerous, unstable structures. There is a cold wind that comes from the mountains and the sea.[1] The settlement is home to an ancient NightWing theatre with a stage, rows of seats, and a backstage scattered with rusty props and faded scripts. The settlement's gardens are full of nonedible plants that are being dug up and replaced with edible plants. The library is also within the settlement. Sanctuary: Sanctuary is a town located in the Sky Kingdom . It is currently occupied and being constructed by the Talons of Peace , and it is also occupied by several hybrids and humans. Sanctuary is built along a cold[1] stream trickling downhill from a lake[2] in the foothills of the Claws of the Clouds Mountains , beside a very small, cold lake.[3] Each home looks completely different from the next, and Sanctuary's architecture includes a mound of clay with a hole in the roof, a rough cabin made of logs and leaves, and two structures by the lake that are half-submerged in water.[2] It is surrounded by bushes[4] and trees[5] that smell like damp leaves and pine needles.[6] There is a huge boulder half-covered in poison ivy within the forest,[7] and a smooth, cold,[8] tall, flat boulder in the shade of the trees.[9] The air smells like scavengers, pine trees, and distant snow.[10] It is full of scuttling noises.[11] Halfway up one of the surrounding mountain peaks, there is a pebbly cave. Sanctuary is punctuated by sounds of incessant chatter,[12] leaves rustling,[13] and wind whipping around the snowcaps of the mountains. However, the cave is very quiet.[14] Not far from the lake's edge, in an area cleared of trees, there is an odd corner:[15] a space surrounded by a very tall fence, which is composed of tree trunks lashed together.[16] Inside, there is a dragon-made pool of water and a pile of leaves and pine needles with a small leaf canopy covering it Flora/Fauna

It lies near the mountain range splitting Pyrrhia and bordering the Kingdom of Sand , by the Winding Tail River . It sits on a cliff and is and is described to look like a city in the sky. It is ruled by the Invincible Lord The city is near a bend in the Winding Tail River, north of the Rainforest Kingdom , and west of Queen Moorhen 's lake. Unlike most human settlements, it is not hidden away. The Indestructible City is built halfway up a cliff overlooking a forest and towers far overhead,[2] sheltered by a huge overhanging ledge. It is placed so any dragon would be visible for miles in any direction.[3] Cave entrances dot the cliffside and odd structures are carved out of the rock.[4] One way of entering the city is by an "endlessly long" set of stairs that had been chipped out of the cliff face, cutting back and forth on a path into the sky, now worn smooth and slippery with no railing to keep someone from tripping and plummeting off the cliff.[5] The second way is from a contraption designed for rising and lowering heavy goods and humans in and out of the walls.[6] A wall of thick stone runs around the edge, ending at the cliff on each side. There are several gardens over the city. Guards protect the tall, narrow stairs that lead to the city on the top of a cliff. A waterfall cascades down the cliff, not far from the city walls,[4][5] with waterwheels out in the spray to collect the water.[7][5] Wagons, tents, and rugs are spread over the ground. Families sleep in huddled piles far back in the cliff, and some stir pots over campfires.[5] There are markets for trading, clothes, and medicine.[8] There are also clowns in the Indestructible City.[9] The Indestructible City is said to be one of the only scavenger cities to fight back against dragons. The Invincible Lord ensured that there is no room for refugees outside of the city, and that all orphans or wanderers are stamped, turned over, and firmly kept inside the city.

Defenses The Indestructible City is mentioned by Rowan and Undauntable to utilize "massive dragon-fighting catapults." All the guards wear boiled leather armor covered in spikes to make it harder for a dragon to pick them up and carry them off. It also has a large wooden contraption called a ballista that is fit together with rope and metal. The pointed end of its spear slides into a slot in the stone wall and pokes out of the outer side. The spear is as long as a dragon, and was activated by a torch, shooting a flaming projectile at targets. • Safe Harbor: Safe Harbor was a human settlement that was destroyed by Blister. • Scavenger Temple: The scavenger temple was a hidden temple with two missing walls located in the forest near Valor Talisman: Talisman is a human settlement on Pyrrhia , located within the mountains south of the SkyWing palace

Talisman is located near the Diamond Spray River , south of the SkyWing palace. It is described to be a reasonably small town, only protected by the dragonmancers .[1] Talisman has bell towers built a ways up the mountain, deliberately far away so the sound would not draw dragons to the village.[2] Buildings in Talisman have shelters where the humans hide from approaching dragons,[2] and the safest shelters were built to protect the schoolchildren. The rooms are stocked with pallets and water barrels, in case any human was trapped underground for too long. There are many rules in Talisman, limiting the actions of the villagers very often.[4] Yelling,[5] slaying dragons,[6] and the act of insulting the dragonmancers are all strictly forbidden.[1] Colors that do not stand out against the environment are preferred in the town, with orange being considered a dangerous color for clothing.[7] Trout's Study Trout's study was a lair where Master Trout kept the blueprint to the SkyWing palace[8] and the books to the dragonmancers' secrets. No one was allowed inside the study except for the dragonmancers. The door was always locked, except when Trout uses the room.[9] The lair was dark and shadowy. The only window was covered with a thick curtain, and all lamps were out. The lair smelled like cinnamon-dusted mold, one sharp, pleasant scent scattered over a deeper, wetter, more rotten odor. A small cage with a coiled snake inside sat on a desk full of papers.[10] Bookshelves lined two walls, though they were only about a quarter full of books. The rest of the shelf space was taken up by many oversized artifacts that previously belonged to dragons, most of them gleaming with gems. These included a tall diamond-studded hourglass, a loop of metal with a ruby embedded in it, a giant copper cup etched with symbols in Dragon, and a heavy gold paperweight shaped like an eye. A large, tripe-padlocked safe stood behind the desk. There is a deep scratch arching out from the bookshelf, as though it had been dragged back and forth several times.[11] There were piles of paper all over the floor.

Valor:

Valor is a human settlement introduced in Dragonslayer . It is an underground city built from tunnels near the Claws of the Clouds Mountains , as the previous town was burned down by dragons.

Valor is an underground city located near the Claws of the Clouds Mountains. According to Sunny , who heard them from aboveground, it stretches for miles.[1] Valor consists of cramped tunnels,[2] as well as the outside world where Wingwatchers serve as warning messengers if a dragon were to approach the city. No person except Heath and the Wingwatchers were allowed outside the city under Heath's rule, even his own daughter .[3] Such actions would come with banishment.[4] Any thoughts or actions against the Dragonslayer's wishes are strictly forbidden. Dragonslayer Way Dragonslayer Way is a tunnel that was excavated by a group of women and children.[6] Heath took the credit for the construction of the tunnel and named it after himself.[7] Underground Lake The underground lake is connected to the village through multiple tunnels, and is Valor's source of water. Water is supplied to the village from an underground lake that students of the school take water from every recess.[7] Meeting Hall The meeting hall is where important gatherings and banishments are held.[8] It is a huge natural cave studded with rock formations and laced with crystals, white and pomegranate pink and lime green melting into one another. Unnamed School There is a school that is formed by a series of several tunnels.[10] Ivy, Daffodil, and Violet attended this school at the age of seven. Heath's Home Heath and his family lived in a cave-mansion decorated with elegant carvings, small jewelry, and gold leaf-painted vases. Ivy's room has drawings of dragons, a hammock, and a oil lamp. In the living room, there is a case with Queen Oasis' tail barb on a tapestry-covered cabinet.

Pantala (Continent):

Pantala , also known as the lost continent by the dragons of Pyrrhia , is one of the two known continents in the Wings of Fire series, the other being Pyrrhia. It takes several days of traveling from the west of Pyrrhia to get there. Its existence was hinted at occasionally, before being confirmed at the end of Darkness of Dragons . The Pantalan dragon tribes consist of the SilkWings , HiveWings , LeafWings , and the believed to be extinct BeetleWings.

Pantala is a dragon-shaped continent that was formerly covered with forests, but after the Tree Wars , now primarily consists of grasslands and savannas. Watering holes and rivers, which are often dry, are scattered throughout the continent. Pantala has a rainy season[1] and dry season, with moderate to hot temperatures. The continent is covered with tall grass[2] and there are occasional sinkholes underfoot. The most prominent landmarks of Pantala are the Hives , which function as connected cities that house most of the continent's SilkWings and HiveWings. Other landmarks include Lake Scorpion , Beetle Lake, Dragonfly Bay , and the Poison Jungle , which sits on the "head" of the continent. Within the Poison Jungle are the Snarling River and the Gullet River , rivers which run through the "neck" and the "mouth" of the continent.

Beetle Lake Beetle Lake is a large lake located on the "wing" of Pantala, in the western region.

Dragonfly Bay Dragonfly Bay is a bay located on the east coast of Pantala. During the reign of the first HiveWing queen, a kraken was there for one rainy season. Dragonfly Bay is a body of water along the eastern coast of Pantala . Dragontail Peninsula Dragontail Peninsula is a peninsula on the southeast end, or the "tail", of Pantala. The peninsula has some trees on it.

The Dragontail Peninsula is located in the southern area of Pantala. The peninsula is covered with trees. Lake Scorpion Lake Scorpion is a large, scorpion-shaped lake located on the "tail" of Pantala, the southern region. It is considered the largest lake on Dragontail Peninsula.[6] The SilkWings from Jewel Hive, along with Lady Jewel and Scarab, intended to flee to the lake.[7]

Lake Scorpion is a body of water located in the southern area of Pantala .[1] It is directly connected to Dragonfly Bay , with the abyss and the abyss village located beneath it. Lake Scorpion is huge,[2] the biggest body of water within Dragontail Peninsula .[3] It surface glitters[4] and sparkles, and it is still and calm,[5] with hills,[6] trees,[3] and hundreds of caves surrounding it.[7] There is a cave opening on the north side of the lake, as well as a pebbled beach The abyss The abyss is a pit located underneath Lake Scorpion, which housed the othermind's brain. It was described as having something glowing and green within it, and as acting strangely "for the first time in years" ever since the othermind escaped the Poison Jungle. Whispers have been heard coming from it, reaching the upper caves of Raven's village.[8] Inside the abyss there is a throne room, where the corpses of Freedom and Cottonmouth used to sit before they were defeated by Lun. The abyss is a deep pit located underneath Lake Scorpion near the abyss village . It served as the location of Cottonmouth 's throne room and the brain of the othermind. The abyss is deep and dark, described as the deepest[1] and creepiest place in the world.[2] It used to have a dim green glow[3] and whispers coming from within it that were loud enough to be heard in the abyss village.[4] The cave around the abyss is an echoing cavern with stalactites overhead[5] and a boulder covered plateau that overlooks the jagged pit.[2] The abyss feels endless[6] and the green glow was blinding the further down the pit went. At the bottom of the abyss, there was a morass of thick vines wound together with sticky sap, wicked thorns, and jagged leaves[7] that gave off a phosphorescent light along with the moist, mossy coated walls before Luna destroyed the breath of evil plant. An opening in the vines led to a dark, chilly, square, throne room with smooth, flat stone walls, four matching columns, and a throne up against the far end.[9] The thone room has a floor of rich dirt that used to be covered entirely by plants.[10] Before Luna destroyed the othermind, a thick plant stem rose from the pedestal of the throne where it grew through Cottonmouth's and Freedom 's skulls that split and clammered across the walls;[11] however, all of the vines decayed after the roots were dug out and burned.

The Hives The nine Hives are cities[9][10] inhabited by HiveWings and SilkWings, with Wasp Hive being the largest and oldest.[11] The Hives are made out of a paper-thin material called treestuff, which is a particular mixture of wood pulp, clay, and silk that allows light to filter through while being as solid as rock.[12] The Hives are spread out in a wide circle across the continent, with silk bridges connecting them.[9] Each Hive was once ruled by one of Wasp's female relatives, such as Lady Jewel and Lady Bloodworm, before Wasp and all of her sisters were imprisoned.

The Poison Jungle The Poison Jungle was the last remaining forest on Pantala after the Tree Wars. It was said to be full of dangerous plants and wildlife, which was why the forest was left alone by the Queen Wasp and the HiveWings. Various dangerous plants were described to be in the jungle, such as sundews, venus dragon-traps, cobra lilies, waterwheels, and the quarantined othermind.[13] Further in the jungle are the homes of both LeafWing factions, the PoisonWings and the SapWings. The jungle was destroyed by the end of The Poison Jungle when the breath of evil manipulated Blue into burning it down with flamesilk.

The Poison Jungle , also known as Never-home by some LeafWings , was a jungle located at the northeastern corner of Pantala that served as the LeafWings' secret home after the Tree Wars . It formed Pantala's "head." In the prologue of The Dangerous Gift , it was revealed that the jungle was burned down when the othermind manipulated Blue into using his flamesilk to do so.

The Poison Jungle was the only forest located on the continent after the Tree Wars. The Poison Jungle was unable to be removed, as the plants were too dangerous and thick for any HiveWings to penetrate. It is described to have various deadly and poisonous plants, such as sundews, Venus dragon -traps, cobra lilies, waterwheels, and the quarantined othermind. The banks are described as lined by "thick, oozing mud," which were infested with snakes.[1] The river that marked the jungle's boundary is called the Snarling River . Further inside of the Poison Jungle are the PoisonWing and SapWing Villages, the homes of the PoisonWing faction of the LeafWing tribe, and the SapWing faction of the LeafWing tribe. The Poison Jungle also has dangerous wildlife, as evidenced by the insects and myriapods that Sundew carries with her (as well as larger creatures). Sundew also points out how only the strongest can survive, and that is why animals like panthers are huge and big enough to scare away even dragons, like Mandrake when he was trying to catch one.[2] Even creatures that are usually small are much larger in the Poison Jungle, such as tsetse flies, as one was described to be three times bigger than Bumblebee.

SapWing village The SapWing village was the home of the SapWing faction of the LeafWing tribe. Its outer perimeter was marked by an absence of carnivorous and poisonous plants,[4] and within the village, treehouses were scattered high in trees.[5] At the center was a large tree house spiraling all the way around an enormous baobab, wound with dark-purple-and-white clematis vines around the columns and with bright red trumpet creepers dangling from the ceiling. The top level of the queen's tree house had a smooth polished wood floor and a mahogany throne.[6] Hazel also owned a room in the queen's tree house. Sundew describes it as "bright and airy, studded with windows and balconies so the breeze flew through it." It is sheltered by an overhanging roof of large round leaves with bright red trumpet creeper flowers poking through the roof. Three desks take up "half of the room," and are covered in a mess of bookbinding supplies made from jungle ingredients. It contains a hammock and has small paper dragons and clouds hung from every leaf stem. According to Sundew, there was a "little blizzard of them flying overhead."[7] Below her room, there is a kitchen level in the palace.

PoisonWing village The PoisonWing village was the home of the PoisonWing faction of the LeafWing tribe. It appeared as a huge, living emerald-and-chocolate-colored dome made of interlocking vines and shrubs that "soared up and between the trees," which was constructed via leafspeak.[9] Past the main gate, it had a detoxification chamber where water was dumped on entering dragons to wash away any seeds to stop the plants from invading the village.[10] Inside the dome, the light was murky green,[11] and had open air up to the roof of the dome. The dome itself was high enough for dragons to fly, and for dragonets to learn how to fly without the dangers of the jungle.[12] The dome contained woven nests where dragons sleep,[13] a weapons storehouse,[14] and food nets.

Snarling River The Snarling River marked the jungle's border and is on the "neck" of Pantala. It is described as dark and swift-flowing. Pitcher plants and cobra lilies grow thick along the shores of both sides which make it almost impossible to cross for the HiveWings. According to Sundew, every time she flew nearby the river, more plants have extended their tendrils across the water, more twisted little thorn trees starting to muscle their way up on the wrong side.[16] The LeafWings keep these plants at bay but according to Sundew, if they allow them to grow freely they would grow across the whole continent of Pantala.

Gullet River The Gullet River is where the throat would be if Pantala were a dragon. Swimming in it is described as feeling like swimming into a very large, shark-like mouth. The water has a foggy green haze, the bottom is made of silt and oozing mud, and it is lined with tangled trees and sharp, jutting rocks.[1] Unnamed Pond The pond is located in a clearing between the SapWing and PoisonWing villages. A boulder "as smooth as obsidian" sticks up out of the water near the middle of the pond. Some of the far trees lean down toward it like parent dragons feeding their little ones.[17] Overhead there are Venus dragon-traps.[18] Sundew and Willow met at this pond in secret for four years.[19] According to Sundew, the clearing is probably the most colorful spot in the jungle, as it has clusters of flowers scattered all over it that Sundew had grown them for Willow in the past three years.[20] Sundew would leave a jade frog on the boulder to tell Willow that she was there.

Eye of the jungle The Eye of the jungle was where the eye would be if Pantala were a dragon. The Den of Vipers, an area home to the most dragonbite vipers on Pantala, surrounds it.[21] It contained many dangerous plants, including hogweeds and kudzu vines,[22] but is known for holding the breath of evil. Between the den of vipers and the SapWing Village is a lake with numerous bladderworts,[23] sundews,[24] and a manchineel grove.[25] It was incredibly hard to reach and was only accessible through a map drawn by Queen Sequoia.[26] Hawthorn's home Hawthorn's home is a house in the Eye of the jungle belonging to Hawthorn. All the low-hanging vines around it have been cut back, along with sections of the canopy overhead, leaving space for grass to grow.[27] A quarter of the clearing is covered by a small vegetable garden. In the center of the clearing, there is a house shaped like a cell in a hive and is made of wood, with pale red flax curtains for the door and windows. One end of the porch is a small woodworking studio. Inside is breezy, warm, and full of rose-colored light from the sun through the curtains. It is all in one room, but with a high ceiling and lots of space. Shelves are gathered on every wall, and perched atop are some of Hawthorn's carvings; wooded dragons, snakes, trees, and orangutans. Sundew noted that one of his carvings of dragon heads looked a lot like Sequoia.[28] Animals • Amphibians ◦ Tree frogs[29] • Birds[30] ◦ Cockatoo[31] ◦ Seagulls[32] ◦ Starlings[33] • Earthworms[34] • Fish[8] ◦ Piranhas[35] • Insects ◦ Bombardier beetles[36] ◦ Bullet ants[37] ◦ Caterpillars[38] ◦ Cicadas[31] ◦ Fire ants[39] ◦ Grasshoppers[40] ◦ Mosquitoes[41] ◦ Pillbugs[34] ◦ River snails[15] ◦ Shining beetles[42] ◦ Ticks[43] ◦ Tree slugs[41] ◦ Tsetse flies[44] ◦ Venomous centipedes[37]

The sinkhole The sinkhole is a pit located in the middle of the savanna, between the Hives. It was the place where Blue, Cricket, and Swordtail hid from HiveWings during the day while traveling to Wasp Hive. A human settlement may have been located there as a human was spotted reading a book within the caves.

Dungeon Isle (Large Island):

The Dungeon Isle is a large island located south of Pyrrhia . Three thousand years ago, it was enchanted by Precipice to be a prison for many LeafWings and BeetleWings , as well as some SeaWings and RainWings , after Queen Falcon 's assassination. Any dragon who enters is unable to leave due to an enchanted Barrier , with only descendants of both Queen Retribution and Queen Summit and the caretakers of the eggs Precipice enchanted able to pass through. It is currently home to the WildWings , SharpWings , many hybrids , and any other dragons who fled from their homes for safety, all of which live in the Court of Refuge.

The Dungeon Isle is roughly a week's journey for dragons to fly south from the Rainforest Kingdom to the island, with a spray[1] of smaller islands dotting the sea between containing instructions directing any dragons to fly toward it,[2] which are referred to as the outer isles. Barrier Because the island was originally intended to be a prison for its original inhabitants, there is a barrier all around preventing dragons from leaving unless they were a descendant of both Queen Retribution and Queen Summit, or if they took care of the two eggs enchanted by Precipice. It is marked by a thick line of burned, ashen trees and grass. The Barrier traps the dragons who cross it on the "dry, sunbaked" part of the island that lacks natural, non-enchanted resources.[4] One part of the Barrier runs through the foothills of the northwest mountains on either side of the palace, behind a boulder-strewn landscape.[5] The Barrier similarly encapsulates the foothills of the mountain range in the southern region of the isle.[6]Umber describes it as having the biggest "GO AWAY" energy of any landmark he had ever seen.[4] Anyone who tries to leave the Dungeon Isle will be electrocuted, needing to rest in the infirmary, along with the SharpWings instantly being summoned over and keeping watch on the attempted escaper.[7] When Umber tried to cross the Barrier for the first time, it felt as though he flew into an invisible wall. When he tried crossing it a second time, the loud words "NO ONE LEAVES THE DUNGEON ISLE, PRISONER." were heard.[8] The consequences of trying to cross the Barrier get worse every time a dragon tries to cross it.[5] Court of Refuge The Court of Refuge is a palace located within a valley between two mountains and was constructed with animus magic following the arrival of the animus, Waterfall.[9] It serves as the current day residence of the inhabitants of the Dungeon Isle. The palace is described to be large, consisting of long sunlit corridors, balconies, towers, and many other rooms to serve the various needs of the inhabitants. Mulberry's hideout Mulberry's hideout is a location close to part of the Barrier and the northwest mountain range.[5] There is a pile of rocks that looked as though they all tumbled down together blocking a trail leading through a grove of olive trees.[4] After following it for a while, it leads to a cascading waterfall running down the rocks from higher up the mountain, which arcs right over the Barrier and into a deep pool five times as wide as Umber’s wingspan.[10] There are several sunbaked boulders around the pool,[11] one of which being large enough for Mulberry and Umber to lie on together.[12] There are lily pads in the pool,[13] the temperature of the water is cool, and there is soft mud at the bottom.[14] It has shallows[12] and an area that is deep enough for Mulberry and Umber to swim and float in.[15] The location is inhabited by frogs and platypuses.[12] Northwest mountains The northwest mountains are the mountain range where Mulberry flies across to go check on the smaller islands between the Dungeon Isle and Pyrrhia.[16] Its mountains look as though the land had been crumpled by huge talons, and are not as tall as the Claws of the Clouds. Its only snow are on peaks in the far distance, which are mostly brown with scatterings of green here and there. It is also where newcomers fly across from Pyrrhia to enter the Court of Refuge.[17] Precipice's cave The entrance to Precipice's cave is on the southern edge of the Dungeon Isle, at the very edge of the Barrier, nestled between two peaks.[18] It is behind giant boulders from an old rock slide in a space with a shallow rock filled pool with a small waterfall.[6] Behind the rocks is a tunnel that consists of smooth stone walls and mossy rocks underfoot, about three dragons long. The cool, dark[19] cave is filled with a large pool that glows pale blue from the bottom. The roof is a perfectly formed oval covered in glowworms. In the center of the pool is a small table sized island with a scooped indent at the top. Inside of the scoop is where Precipice had left the enchanted eggs that Umber and company had found.[20] It is roughly two to three nights' flight away from the Court of Refuge.[6] Pond A small pond with warm waters is located in the middle of the island and is a night's distance away from the Court of Refuge. It is shallow but deep enough for fish to inhabit and for Platypus to dive into.[21] Southern Snowplace Mulberry mentioned that this is where the islands' inhabitants get snow to make ice cream.[22] He also mentions this place being beyond the mountains where Precipice's cave is located, and another stretch of ocean.[23 Prisoner Records As part of the Dungeon Isle's original spell, SharpWings were enchanted to instantly be aware of the arrival of new prisoners, as well as if they ever tried to leave the island.[24] When new dragons first arrive, SharpWings record their names and prisoner categories, which are represented by a number. Beryl claimed no one knew what these numbers represented,[25] but their significance was later rediscovered in the SharpWings' room in the Court of Refuge by Umber and Quokka, etched on a metal plaque.[26] The categories prisoners can be sorted into are as follows: • 1 — FAMILY OF CRIMINAL • 2 — UNWITTING ACCOMPLICE • 3 — INTENTIONAL ACCOMPLICE • 4 — PETTY THIEVERY, NONVIOLENT • 5 — GRANT THIEVERY, NONVIOLENT • 6 — HARBORING DANGEROUS CRIMINALS, CONSPIRACY TO PLAN VIOLENCE • 7 — ASSAULT, NON-DEADLY ATTACKS ON OTHER DRAGONS • 8 — CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT MURDER, TREASON • 9 — MURDER, NON-ROYAL • 10 — MOST DANGEROUS CRIMINALS; MURDER, ASSASSINATION, TREASON; EXTREMELY VIOLENT If a dragon is sorted into Category 10, they would have the SharpWings keeping watch on them.[26] Triumvirate's hideout While in hiding, the Triumvirate and other exiles lived in what seems to be the center of the island. The location is past the plain and mountains, and is made up of hundreds of rock formations shaped like claws scattered across the sandy[27] and dry earth, which the exiles live within the heart of.[28]Wollemi mentioned that the group was living in "scrubby" caves, and implied that dingoes live in the area.[29] Triumvirate's meeting place The exiles did not reveal the location of their hideout to Quokka. Instead, they met up in the shade of a rock formation that resembled five huge claws thrusting up from the ground, as though a rust-red dragon deep below was trying to scratch its way to freedom

MudWings:

MudWings, also known as swamp dragons or mud dragons to humans, are a Pyrrhiandragon tribe that reside in the Mud Kingdom. They are currently ruled by Queen Moorhen. The MudWings were allied with Burn and the SkyWings in the War of SandWing Succession and fought against Blister and Blaze. They were allied with Blister and the SeaWings in the beginning of the War of SandWing Succession, until the assassination of Commander Tempest. Burn forced the MudWings into an alliance by using threats and offered one hundred years of peace between their tribes and protection for the MudWings if she became queen of the SandWings. MudWings have thick, armored scales. They are usually earthy colors, such as shades of brown, and amber. They are most known for their flat snouts, brute strength, and large size. They may also have gold or amber underscales, usually more visible in sunlight. Their nostrils are located on the top of the snouts, allowing them to lay submerged in mud for long periods of time, usually around one hour. They have thick, curved horns and broad, flat heads. Their eyes have been described as brown, gold, shades of amber, and hazel, sometimes with yellow rings around the pupils. Their bodies are muscular and robust, being based on crocodiles. MudWings may also have markings such as dappled scales. Diet MudWings love food and are willing to eat nearly anything, including both fruit and meat. In the marshes, they eat crocodiles and other swamp-dwelling creatures. MudWings will raise and breed livestock such as cows. Their diet is noted to also consist of water birds, hippos, water buffalo, cows, and elephants. Newborn dragonets eat earthworms and moles. MudWings also prepare dishes such as frozen cream with melon. MudWings can hold their breath for up to an hour, and if a dragon is warm enough, they can breathe fire. Because of their muscular bodies, MudWings are quite strong. They are capable of camouflaging into mud and dirt and may rest while partially submerged. MudWings can use mud to ease pain and help treat wounds. MudWings that hatch from blood-red eggs are immune to fire. This power only fully activates after exposure to mud; however, it is able to activate while the dragonet is still inside the egg. Though fire will still hurt them, any injuries caused by fire will rapidly heal. If a burn is too deep or large, however, it cannot heal all the way; this ability will not heal deep flesh wounds or internal wounds and is mostly limited to a dragon's scales. Fireproof MudWings may be able to survive in lava for short periods. When burned, a fire-immune MudWing's scales will temporarily fade to black before returning to the dragon's normal scale color. In ancient MudWing times, the queen would order for blood-red eggs to be destroyed before they hatched. This changed when Moccasin's dragonet was discovered to be fireproof. There has never been a known animus dragon in the MudWing tribe. Less wealthy and lowborn MudWings usually live on the outskirts of MudWing territory, near the Diamond Spray Delta , while the rest live closer to the center of the kingdom. MudWings hatch close to villages, where they learn and pick up the dragon language by going to schools. After hatching, MudWing sibling groups will often follow older groups to pick up the ways of MudWing life. Royal MudWings hatched in the palace are named shortly after hatching, quickly educated, and trained.

MudWings live in large mud bunkhouses, with a big opening at the top, that house several dragons, usually siblings. They also tend to lie around and nap in large mud puddles. MudWings have not been ambitious compared to other tribes. It has been a while since they had a queen who was interested in conquering others. Pairings are not formal, with a breeding night once a month. Neither parent takes part in raising their children, instead, letting the bigwings help their sibs around, and often the two partners will not know one another or their children in any way. MudWings lay their eggs in well-protected bunkhouses with mud walls and warm rocks for incubation. Eggs are left mostly alone, and oftentimes no adults are present during hatchings. The first MudWing dragonet to hatch is often the largest and is known as a "bigwings". They will help their siblings hatch out of their eggs. MudWings, unlike other tribes, live in troops of siblings, with the bigwings as the caretaker and leader. These sib groups love and trust one another a great deal and work well as units of soldiers. They also protect one another and feel the loss of a sibling deeply. When a sibling is killed or lost, a sib group may take in another dragon who has been orphaned from their own group, known as "unsibs". Several unsibs may also gather to form their own troop. Sometimes, when a MudWing loses all their siblings at a young age, they can be adopted by another troop. MudWings troops meet other siblings under the moons at festivals. These involve socializing and dancing. Most MudWings believe that after death, they are reborn into a new life along with all of their siblings so they will always be together. Besides the bigwings, MudWing troops also have other roles that the siblings fill. This includes a healer who studies the medicinal properties of mud and various leaves, a treasurer who keeps track of the siblings' treasure and provisions, a gatherer who finds additional food besides the prey that is hunted as a group, and a communicator who negotiates with other troops. These roles are assigned by natural skills and personal preference. The bigwings can sometimes be in charge of one of these roles if they have the skills for one of the roles. MudWings have been stereotyped throughout history as dumb by most dragons. However, according to Bullfrog, the events of the Scorching are in every MudWing history book.[40]

MudWing names generally relate to the earth, swamps, and the flora and fauna that reside there such as Reed, Crane, Pheasant, Sora, Moorhen, and Cattail, or shades of brown, such as Umber, Sepia, and Ochre. Sometimes they can also be named after types of diamonds or minerals, such as Asha. Synonyms of swamps or swampy areas are also used as names, such as Marsh, Swamp, and Bog. • No MudWing queen has ever been challenged by a sister for her throne due to the way MudWings form sibling bonds. The oldest female, or bigwings, of the troop is usually the queen due to the hierarchy of these groups. • Though MudWings are not focused on as much, they are lucky to avoid conflicts with the rest of Pyrrhia.

SeaWings: SeaWings, also known as sea dragons or ocean dragons to humans, are a Pyrrhiandragon tribe that currently reside in the Kingdom of the Sea. Currently, they are ruled by Queen Coral and can speak both Aquatic underwater and Dragon when out of water. The SeaWings were allied with Blister during the War of SandWing Succession until the bombing of the Summer Palace, which caused them to flee to the Deep Palace, breaking their alliance with Blister. They were previously allied with the MudWings until their SeaWing Commander, Tempest, was assassinated by Deathbringer. In the time of Darkstalker, they had an Island Palace for diplomatic meetings and parties with dragons from other tribes. It was abandoned after the Royal SeaWing Massacre where Albatross lost most of his soul and went mad, resulting in the killing of one SkyWing and many SeaWings, including Lagoon.

SeaWings are considered short in height with long, compact bodies and short legs. They have curved horns, a slender, curved snout, and two barbels on the underside of their jaw. Their tongues can be forked or non-forked. They have webbed spines along the backs of their necks to the tips of their tails, as well as on their chests. SeaWings have webbed talons with hooked claws, as well as long, powerful tails that are useful for swimming. They have gills on the sides of their necks that allow them to breathe underwater.

SeaWings commonly have scale colors in the ranges of blues and greens, including indigo, blue-green, aquamarine, and shades of gray. Although rare, dragons may have pink scales, wings, or horns. Some SeaWings can also have black spiraling patterns, like those shown on Nautilus. In the sunlight, their scales may look like glossy emeralds and sapphires. SeaWings usually have eyes that are a shade of blue or green. SeaWings have glowing stripes along their faces, bodies, and wings. Members of the royal family have glowing spirals on the edges and starburst markings on the undersides of their wings, while most non-royal SeaWings have smaller starbursts but no spiral patterns. SeaWing eggs are smooth, round, and white or pale in color. They can also be blue. They are heavy, especially soon before they hatch. The egg may begin to pulse dark blue or glow blue or green when it is about to hatch.

Higher class SeaWings mainly eat raw fish and other aquatic creatures such as whales, squid, octopi, turtles, crabs, clams, and sea snails, while lower class SeaWings eat eels, though this is stated insultingly. SeaWings may also prepare soup, stew, and roasted seagull, usually for guests from other tribes, like they did for Princess Blister. The SeaWing Council eat raw, ruby-red fish that is deboned and arranged into rolls with seaweed, tiny green crabs, and a salad of octopus tentacles and herbs, sprinkled with lemon juice. SeaWings are also noted to eat clams, sea birds, lobsters, and on special occasions such as hatching days, raw tuna wrapped in seaweed stuffed with tiny fish eggs. In the time of Darkstalker, royal SeaWings prepared coconut rice, tuna rolls, macadamia treats, and a mango-lime drink. Humpback stated that many years prior, dragons ate scavenger sashimi every afternoon. Fathom mentioned that SeaWings sometimes consume sharks, though dragonets are taught to be careful of them until they are full-grown. Queen Coral has forbidden the consumption of dolphins because she believes that they might be distantly related to dragons, though Tsunami thinks it might be because she is afraid that somebody might catch and kill Anemone by mistake, as her scales are the same pink/pale blue colors as dolphins.

SeaWings have gills, powerful tails, and exceptional night vision. They are able to breathe and see underwater and use their tails, wings, and webbed talons to swim. Their claws are curved like fishhooks to help them swim, and their tails can be used to batter opponents or create huge waves. SeaWings often ride currents to travel the ocean faster, and they prefer to alternate swimming and flying when traveling long distances.Physical wounds, such as burns, can be healed by ocean water. The bioluminescent stripes on a SeaWing's body are used to converse underwater, as well as to attract partners. They can control when the stripes on their bodies glow and can light up each one individually. Different combinations of stripes and/or hand signals indicate different words in Aquatic. Aquatic is used underwater and on the surface.

SeaWings can be driven mad if dehydrated from water for too long. Dehydrated SeaWings appear insane and have barely any consciousness of what they do. This happened to Gill in the SkyWing palace, but he is the only known SeaWing to be seen in this state.

Animus magic Animus magic is present in the SeaWing royal bloodline. There are no rules on how much magic a SeaWing can use, and animus dragons are often controlled closely by the queen of the tribe. Animus magic was the cause of the Royal SeaWing Massacre after Lagoon had pushed Albatross to the brink of madness from her forcing him to use his powers. This started an unsuccessful attempt to wipe animus magic from the tribe's bloodline, making its use illegal in the Kingdom of the Sea. Citizen duties include kitchen work and enlistment in the army. Most SeaWings work at the palace with jobs such as pearl diving, weaving, carving, hunting, gardening, and caretakers for dragonets. Coral is a writer whose scrolls are required reading in SeaWing schools, even those that are not of the best quality. Guards have been shown to salute to her, and most of her subjects regard her as a good queen. The Summer Palace, before its destruction, utilized an advance guard. It was a troop consisted of at least fifteen soldiers whose duty was to keep intruders away from the palace. In modern Pyrrhia, most SeaWing citizens appear well fed, well-rested, and content. The queen uses a council consisting of selected council members and members of the royal SeaWing family or members that the queen trusts. The Council has frequent meetings. SeaWings keep pets such as seahorses, sea dragons, cuttlefish, and bobtail squid. They also keep decorative animals such as luminous jellyfish. SeaWings historically used boats.

SeaWings may be named after sea-related objects or wildlife, examples being Nautilus, Anemone, Orca, Shark, Snail, Coral, and Turtle. Their names may also be shades of blue such as Cerulean and Indigo. Some share the names of gemstones, such as Sapphire and Pearl, and they may also have names relating to aquatic anatomies, like Fin, Gill, and Webs, naturally occurring oceanic phenomena, such as Ripple, Current, Tempest, Tsunami, Typhoon , Riptide , Splash , and Whirlpool , as well as water-based locations such as Lagoon and Wharf.

RainWings:

RainWings , also known as rainforest dragons to humans , are a Pyrrhiandragon tribe that reside in the Rainforest Kingdom , alongside the NightWings . RainWings are usually pacifists and were not involved in the War of SandWing Succession . They are currently ruled by Queen Glory.

RainWings are based on chameleons.[event 1] They are long and graceful, with ruffs behind their ears, curved horns, and prehensile tails that are used primarily for climbing, swinging in trees, and hanging off branches in the rainforest they inhabit, like birds of paradise. When afraid, insulted, or angry, RainWings flare their ruffs as a sign of aggression or hostility.[1] RainWings have small, round scales that can change color. Most RainWings prefer vivid, bright colors; however, if they wish, they can camouflage to look like they have disappeared. They can control the color of their scales, though they often have a hard time stopping strong emotions from showing through them. Most RainWings have a 'default' color scheme that they set their scales to when they are not showing emotions, and they may not be able to camouflage when they are afraid or in pain.[2] RainWings also cannot camouflage if someone who does not know how to camouflage is mind-controlling them (via the othermind).[3] RainWings are able to blend into their surroundings at will otherwise. Although their eyes shift colors like their scales, RainWings primarily have green, yellow, brown, or blue eyes.[4] RainWings are able to mimic the realistic appearance of other tribes with their scales.[5] RainWing dragonets develop their color-shifting scales while they are still in their eggs, which are pale, smooth, and white.[6] RainWings have sun-time to make their scales beautiful and improve their mood.[7] According to Princess Python, too much sunlight makes RainWings "as bad as sloths.

• Dark red: furious[20] • Deep purple: determined[21] • Emerald: displeased,[22] surprised[7] • Gold: happy, excited,[14] jubilant[23] • Gray: sorrowful[24] • Green: worried, panicked,[25] nervous[26] • Indigo: proud[27] • Lavender: delighted[28] • Light blue: worried,[29] sad[14] • Light violet: proud[9] • Orange-purple: confused, puzzled[30] • Orange: irritated,[31] frustrated,[12] annoyed[32] • Pale green: scared, terrified, fearful[33] • Pale orange: indignant,[34] disgusted[35] • Pale pink: embarrassed[14][36] • Pink: joyful,[14] happy,[37] in love[20] • Red: angry,[9] raging[32] • Reddish-orange: determined, confident[citation needed] • Sky-blue: resigned[38] • White: in pain, sick,[39] fearful,[40] shocked[41] • Yellow: amused,[42] relieved,[43] excited,[44] surprised[14] RainWings are generally vegetarians, but some will eat monkeys and other rainforest animals.[45]Jambu stated that eating sloths could cause indigestion for days due to how much fur they have and suggested not to eat them for that reason. [46] As sloths are a RainWing pet, it is strongly frowned upon to eat them. Some RainWings are quite protective of their sloths and will not let others eat them, as shown with Exquisite. While fruit and various rainforest plants are the main part of their diets, RainWings also eat chocolate.[47] RainWings are known to eat less than the other dragon tribes when they nap in the sun.[48] Glory described it as if the sun gave her more energy than any food could give her, and Jambu states that the sun gives them more than half the energy to survive.[49] Prior to the reign of Queen Jacaranda, RainWings ate meat such as sloths.

RainWings have long, prehensile tails that are great for swinging through the rainforest, as well as long fangs and color-changing scales. Some RainWings are able to mimic certain bird calls.[50] They are capable of absorbing sunlight, which gives them energy and causes their scales to become brighter, as well as making them prettier and smarter. They have a dedicated time to sleep in the sun, known as "suntime", when the sun is at its highest, and RainWings who do not sleep in the sun may have duller or unchangeable scales.[51][52] Sunlight is also vital to the development of other RainWing abilities, such as venom, and to their good mood.[53][7] However, if a RainWing has a certain snout deformity that causes them to be unable to sleep for long periods of time, like Chameleon's, they cannot change color.[52] RainWing scales change color by bending light.[event 2] When at ease, RainWing scales may reflect their emotions. They can also manipulate their scales to be any color they wish,[54] though strong emotions may break through a chosen scale color.[51] RainWings can also use their scales for camouflage, reflecting their surroundings and making them effectively invisible to most dragons. Other RainWings may be able to spot a disguised dragon. This is a skill they develop at a young age during games of hide-and-seek.[55] RainWings are able to manipulate a fine level of detail onto their scales.[56] RainWings who are born blind always show their emotions on their scales and cannot manually change them. When relaxed, their scales will automatically camouflage to their surroundings,[57] and that ability can be improved with practice.

RainWings have long front fangs which extend up high towards the target when ready to spit the venom and a jaw that can unhinge to shoot corrosive venom. This venom only affects organic material, such as animals and plants. Inorganic materials, such as rock and metal, are not affected.[59] It can be deadly if it reaches a dragon's bloodstream or eyes.[59] If a dragon survives a venom attack, it will leave warped, scarred scales or skin.[60] RainWing venom is neutralized by contact with the venom of a blood relative.[61] Dragonet venom is shown to be weaker than adult venom,[62] and usually older dragons will be able to shoot venom further. RainWing venom is black and will dry into glossy droplets after some time exposed to air.

RainWings cannot see as far or as well as IceWings or SkyWings , but they can see more clearly in the dark.[64][65][66] They are not long-distance fliers or accustomed to deprivation, as they usually swing and hop from branch to branch in a rainforest perpetually full of food.

RainWings fly with a strange grace, using a combination of spiraling up or down and using their tails or spreading their wings to glide between the trees.[68] They call this "tree gliding" and have teachers, such as Jambu, to help dragonets learn how to fly in the densely packed rainforest.[61] RainWings have been mentioned to tell the time based on the position of the sun.

RainWings live an idyllic lifestyle, with easy access to food and shelter, and no involvement in conflicts. They like showing off to new visitors and spend each morning trying to be the brightest and most vivid RainWing. They are mostly ignored by other tribes,[70] and are viewed and stereotyped by the other tribes as ignorant,[71] lazy, unintelligent, and weak.[72][73]Snowfall described their typical lifestyle as sleeping and eating papayas,[74] and Peril stated that RainWings were inoffensive,[75] mellow, calm, friendly, and sleepy all the time.[76] However, Chameleon viewed their society more bitterly, as he believed that the RainWings disliked anyone who was different and could not participate in RainWing activities; he was laughed at,[75] teased, avoided, and whispered about for his inability to change scale colors.[77] RainWings have a unique, peaceful royal challenge, in accordance with their pacifistic beliefs. It was started by an unnamed queen in order to stop their strongest dragons from dying while vying for the throne.[78] The challenge is a contest decided by the current queen. Before Queen Glory's royal challenge, queens took turns being queen one month at a time,[79] and the position was given to any female dragon who wanted it.[80] It is also stated by Kinkajou that RainWings with shiny names are the ones that are more likely to want to be queen. Fruit Bat is an exception. RainWings have blowguns with sleeping darts, coated in tree-frog poison.[82] These darts are used as a form of protection, to knock out strange dragons wandering into the forest, and for games as well.[82][83] RainWings use flowers for decoration the way the other tribes used jewels and precious stones.[84] RainWings keep sloths as pets, often when a sloth chooses a dragon by climbing on them during suntime.[46] A dragon may own multiple sloths.[85] RainWings perform a venom test before having eggs, ensuring that they are not blood relatives.[86] This prevents inbreeding in the tribe, as formal families do not exist.[87] RainWings engage in communal raising of dragonets, with everyone pitching in to help.[61] Dragonets are raised in a wingery and can mimic almost the exact shade of a dragon at less than a year old.[88] They also constantly play games such as hide and seek, which is a favorite.[55] RainWing dragonets are trained to aim their venom, glide through trees without getting snagged by the foliage, gather fruit,[89][61][32] and camouflage their scales.[88] They are not taught to read or write, but some may train as medics, as RainWings have multiple healers in their village. These healers keep their scales calming shades of blue and white.[90] An adult RainWing with no role or assignment will always get the last choice for sun-time spots and only leftovers for food.[91] RainWings have an oral storytelling tradition which was the primary way that stories are told without scrolls. They would gather before or after suntime to share stories that ranged from fragments of history or myths to magical adventures, proving their imagination powerful.[92] Before Queen Glory's reign, they would not count or track their eggs, only stopping by occasionally to check for newly hatched dragonets.[93] Glory aspired to change this when she became queen so that no more eggs would ever go lost again.[94] They have dragons keeping watch in the rainforest for danger, both RainWings and NightWings.[95][96] They are also beginning to read and write and attempting to grow a moon globe tree (from the Ice Kingdom) for light.[97] RainWings do not imprison dragons, instead they banish them.[98] In the time of Darkstalker, RainWings were a more threatening tribe.[99][100] They had merchants selling both fruits and potions to the other tribes.[101][102] They could also read and write at some point before the events of the series.[103] They once had libraries[92] and an assassin training program. During this time, they had skirmishes and wars with the MudWings and SkyWings over territory. RainWing spies resided outside of the rainforest in order to gather information on the weaknesses of other tribes.[8] Under the reign of Queen Jacaranda, the RainWings began transitioning over to a peaceful lifestyle, building hammocks and taming sloths.[104] Despite this, the RainWings still challenged and killed each other over the throne, and it was necessary for them to defend the rainforest from other tribes. RainWings may be named after plants and animals found in the rainforest (such as Kinkajou, Tamarin, Jambu, and Orchid), fruits (such as Mango, Pineapple, and Coconut), trees (such as Mangrove), and positive adjectives (such as Exquisite, Handsome, Magnificent and Dazzling). RainWings have a list of names that they cycle through; when they reach the end of the list, they return to the beginning, meaning that many RainWings have had the same names throughout history.

• RainWings are given an Australian accent in the audiobooks, though Tui does not consider it canon.[event 3] • RainWings and LeafWings are related, and some RainWings have traveled to Pantala in the past.[event 4] • Most RainWings do not have the ability to count correctly, especially younger RainWings.[105] • The base RainWing scale color is a lime green like Chameleon's scales.[106] • Tui may write a winglet or other book on the history of RainWings.[citation needed] • RainWings are described to be the most beautiful Pyrrhian tribe SandWings:

SandWings, also known as sand dragons or desert dragons to humans, are a Pyrrhiandragon tribe who dwell in the Kingdom of Sand, a vast desert along the west coast and near the center of Pyrrhia. They are currently ruled by Queen Thorn. Stone, Rose, and Heath were the main cause of the War of SandWing Succession, as the three warring heirs were vying for control of their tribe. Each princess had different allies — Blister was allied with the SeaWings and NightWings, and formerly the MudWings. Burn was allied with the SkyWings and later the MudWings, and Blaze was allied with the IceWings and most of the SandWings. After the eighteen year long war ended, these alliances disintegrated and the SandWings joined as one to serve the new queen.

SandWings are partly based on scorpions.[event 1] They have pale yellow,[1] pale gold,[2] white-gold,[3] or light yellow-brown[4] scales that blend in with the desert sand. They have obsidian-black eyes,[5] a spike on the top of their nose and below their ear, and a black forked tongue. They have short, curved horns and a sail or ridge going from the top of their snout to about three fourths down their tails, which have a scorpion-like stinger at the end. Their tail barb is typically dark in color.[6] SandWings may have different patterns on their scales and wings, including black diamond patterns,[3] brown speckled markings,[7] freckles,[8] and triangle patterns on a dragon's wings.

Due to the minimal amount of food found in the desert they live in, SandWings are light eaters.[10] They may cook or prepare much of their food. They eat animals from the desert, such as camels, lizards,[11] desert rodents,[11] desert foxes, and roasted scorpions[12] and beetles.[13] Date cookies, dried figs, biscuits, dried dates and fruit, bread, small birds,[14] honey, berries, tortillas[15] and roasted lizards and camels are prepared in the SandWing palace's kitchen.[16] They drink coffee,[13] camel milk,[17] cinnamon milk,[18] cactus cider,[19] and agave nectar.[20] SandWings are willing to eat food not found or scarcely found in the desert such as fruit,[21] vegetables,[22] antelope,[20] and dishes such as crocodile stew.[12] SandWings in Vulture's compound also eat scavengers, smelly cheese, cinnamon, coconut, smoked ham, lemons, dried fish, and ducks.[23] SandWings of Six-Claws ' time baked date soufflé and made camel shish-kebab

SandWings have scales that radiate warmth and are capable of breathing fire. They can camouflage with sand, sustain themselves on very little food and water, and have sharp hearing and smell.[10][25][26][27] They are naturally adapted to desert conditions, better at handling heat and a lack of water than any other dragon tribe, but can still be affected by desert conditions.[28] They are built for long flights across the desert without stopping and are able to go for days with very little food.

SandWings have venomous barbed tails, similar to scorpion tails. Their venom can kill a full-grown dragon with a stab to the heart.[30] SandWings do not develop their tail-barb venom until they are around three years old,[31] and as young dragonets, they have a smaller barb that has not fully developed.[32] The cure for SandWing venom is juice from a brightsting cactus. Animus magic The SandWing tribe has animus magic, though little is known about their animus dragons or spells they have cast. One notable animus-touched object is the Eye of Onyx, enchanted to reduce any SandWing who tries for the throne into dust, if she is not worthy to be queen.[34]Jerboa and Jerboa III are the only known animus SandWings.

The SandWings' kingdom is vast and empty, as many choose to live in towns by oases.[35][36] Occasionally, some would live and roam around on their own.[37] Living alone helped them avoid conflicts.[38] Many SandWings work as merchants or assassins, especially in the Scorpion Den .[12] They celebrate full moon festivals and are a surprisingly musical tribe.[39][40] Duties between civilians can range between garden keeping,[41] kitchen work,[24] teaching,[31] army duties.[42] and patrols such as harvesting brightsting cacti, hunting desert foxes, and destroying dragonbite viper dens.[43] According to Fierceteeth , Thorn becoming the new SandWing queen is quite controversial within the Kingdom of Sand.[44] Most citizens are, however, quite loyal towards their queen.[45] SandWing dragonets are taught to hold their tails in a certain way to prevent accidents.[46] Young dragons spend a lot of time practicing how to be aware of their tails and everyone else's,[31] and much bandaging and antidote-administering is required for various accidents.[31] Dragonets who live in the palace learn basic things in the wingery until the age of two.[47] Even in times of general peace, SandWings still had minor skirmishes with IceWings and SkyWings.[42] They also have a reputation among other tribes as sneaky outlaws and are stereotyped as sly and underhanded.[48]Winter once described them to be "nearly as untrustworthy as NightWings, but half as smart and twice as likely to betray you for gold and treasure."[49] SandWings keep armadillos, coyotes, and snakes as pets.

SandWings are often named after the desert — both features or characteristics of the land (such as Oasis and Horizon ) and local flora and fauna (such as Meerkat and Agave ). Fire and heat-related names are also common (such as Burn, Smolder , Kindle , and Char ), and SandWings may be named after physical attributes (such as Six-Claws) and colors (such as Tawny.

• SandWings have earplugs[52] and caravans.[28] • Most SandWings are claustrophobic.[53][54] • SandWings play games with tiny bones

NightWings:

NightWings, also known as night dragons to humans/scavengers, are a Pyrrhiandragon tribe who currently reside in the Rainforest Kingdom, alongside the RainWings, within the tropical rainforest in the lower southeast of Pyrrhia. They are currently ruled by Queen Glory. The NightWing tribe previously lived on the Talon Peninsula, also known as the lost city of night or the old Night Kingdom. After Darkstalker murdered Prince Arctic, the NightWings feared that his ghost haunted the peninsula and fled to the NightWing island off the northern coast of the Sky Kingdom where they remained until the NightWing Exodus. They were secretly allied with Blister towards the end of the War of SandWing Succession. A large portion of the tribe was briefly ruled by Darkstalker in the second arc. There were only fifty or so NightWings who stayed in the rainforest during this time. Twenty-seven NightWings separated from Queen Glory and currently reside in an encampment in the lost city of night known as Renewal.

NightWings are based on monitor lizards.[event 1] They have been described to have forked, pitch-black tongues, as well as dark scales which are usually black[1] or in shades of dark green, blue,[2] purple,[3] or dull gray.[4] They also may have purple, dark blue[5] or dark green[6] underbellies, and dapples of silver scales running along their necks. Their wings have silver scales scattered across them like the stars of a night sky, forming different patterns. These patterns are genetic.[7] NightWings have been described with black,[8] dark blue,[9] purple,[event 2] or dark green eyes.[6] They have straight horns.[10] NightWings can melt into shadows and blend into the night sky due to their colors and wing patterns. Mind readers have silver teardrop scales by the corners of their eyes,[11] and empaths such as Fatespeaker will also have these teardrop scales;[5] however, it is possible that NightWings with teardrop scales may not have this ability.[12] Seers have no physical indications of their power.

On the volcanic island, most NightWings ate carrion, which Starflight noted gave most of them severe halitosis by dragon standards - enough to tell apart who could hunt fresh meat or not.[13] They would bite their prey, poisoning it with bacteria from inside their mouths, and leave it to decease. After it was dead, they would return to eat it.[14] On the island, seafaring birds could be found. They would also hunt in the rainforest, for prey such as sloths, and may have gathered some fruit. While living on this island, most NightWings ate once per week, which contributed to their malnutrition.[15] After relocating to the rainforest, NightWings began to incorporate fruits and vegetables into their diet, though they continue to eat meat,[16] with the exception of sloths. In the time of Darkstalker, hunting was very similar to other tribes. They ate hawks,[17] fish,[18] bears,[19] squirrels,[18] rattlesnakes,[18] and wolves.[20] They cooked their food, including roasted nuts and baked bear, and had access to cheese.[19] They would also purchase fruits from RainWing merchants.[19]

NightWings are a nocturnal[21] tribe that can blend into the night sky and shadows. They can also breathe fire, and most modern NightWings have harmful bacteria in their mouths which can poison animals with a single bite.[22] However, it is noted that after searching through the corpses of dead NightWings, there was no venom found in their teeth.[23] They have a strong sense of smell[15] and powerful night vision.[24][25] NightWings hatched under one full moon have the power of mind-reading or prophecy, and those hatched under two have both. Dragonets hatched under three full moons will have both of these powers, which have been made stronger by the third moon. NightWings once thought that the third full moon gave animus powers, though this was later disconfirmed, as animus powers are passed on genetically.[26] The power of the gifts varies, such as Clearsight having strong foresight.[event 3] When the NightWings moved to the volcanic island, knowledge of these powers was forgotten, possibly on purpose.[27] NightWing eggs touched by the moonlight of a full moon will turn an eerie polished silver color, while untouched eggs remain an ebony black.[28]

Mind-reading NightWings can observe the thoughts of those around them. They cannot 'rummage around' in another dragon's head, but hear thoughts as the dragon thinks them, often only picking up on jumbled words, pictures, and emotions; thoughts are louder and stronger to the mind reader when they are touching the former.[29] In the time of Darkstalker , dragonets were taught ways to block out the minds of others, though this practice was lost over time without powers.[30] Mind readers can project their thoughts to one another to have mental conversations, and powerful mind readers may be able to block the visions of prophets.[31][32] Dragons with this power hatched under a blood moon can project their thoughts to any dragon, not just other mind readers.[event 4] A stone that originated in space called skyfire seems to be the only way to block a mind reader from seeing your thoughts.

Prophetic NightWings can see flashes and visions of the future. On occasion, they will have a true prophecy, which will manifest as words rather than a vision in the dragon's head.[33] In the time of Darkstalker , prophets would sometimes take regular visions and translate them to sound like real prophecies. Very powerful prophets may be able to look into the future and follow individual timelines.[34] Futures have been described as 'webs', as they overlap and are easily mixed up.[35] Prophets hatched beneath a blood moon can see terrible events and natural disasters with particular clarity.[event 5] When NightWings deliver prophecies, their eyes glow and their voices become low and shivery.[36] In the time leading up to the delivery of a prophecy, the seer may mutter it in their sleep[33] or chant elements of their visions sporadically and without warning, causing manic episodes.[

Animus magic NightWings have animus dragons, with the earliest known powers tracing back to the NightWing-IceWinghybrid Darkstalker.[38] All known animus NightWing dragons are descended from Whiteout, as she carried animus genetics while Darkstalker did not have dragonets.[39] They may have had animus magic before Darkstalker, as they once believed that the third full moon gave animus magic.[26] In modern times, they are likely expected or forced to use their powers for the good of their tribe.

NightWing society is undergoing a great deal of change as they adjust to life in the rainforest. Many of them were bitter due to their queen being a RainWing,[41] and although some have become more accepting of the idea,[42] Glory's queenship is quite controversial among them,[43] but they still contain a tribal aura of mystery[44] and spookiness.[45]

NightWing Island Era While living on the volcanic island, NightWings poured a great deal of effort into making their tribe seem mysterious and powerful to hide their real weakened state. They trained their dragonets to lie about their 'powers,' and kept them confined to the island until at least age ten to prevent any breaches of information

They were exceptionally skilled at keeping secrets,[48][49] and NightWing information was given to dragonets as they grow older.[50] They were not allowed to leave the island until the age of ten,[51] and most NightWings would try to counter sarcasm with more sarcasm, as though every conversation was a competition to see whose wit was more biting. Usually, no one stopped to acknowledge that someone else was funny.[52] In general, sentimental sincerity was not a NightWing trait.[53] Loyalty, secrecy, and obedience to NightWing elders were the most important lessons for dragonets within the tribe,[54] and young NightWings were kept away from other tribes, as older dragons did not trust them to keep NightWing secrets.[55] When Battlewinner disappeared from public view, enforcement of guard and patrol duties was considerably weakened,[56] and many citizens believed that guarding and patrolling an island that no one was able to locate was ultimately pointless.[57] Leaving the island and traveling to the mainland was every young dragonet's dream.[58] NightWings were not supposed to be seen within the mainland,[59] and Deathbringer 's main objective as an assassin was to ensure that the NightWing involvement in the War of SandWing Succession was kept under heavy secrecy.

DarkStalker Era

In the time of Darkstalker, NightWing mothers typically named their dragonets.[61] The tribe also functioned nocturnally, usually waking after midday and sleeping at sunrise.[62] NightWings of higher status lived in higher homes in the cliffs, while lower ones lived closer to the bottom, where less desirable homes were.[63] They also appeared to value knowledge and reading, as they had an extensive library[64] and honored the first librarians of the kingdom.[65] In Clearsight's time, the NightWings were famous for their intertribal relations, open trade partnerships, literature, and artwork, which had been sold across the continent. Dragons from all over Pyrrhia brought them new ideas, inventions, and discoveries.[66] Most dragonets started school when they were one year old.[67] NightWings had a centuries-old feud with the IceWings due to the legend of Foeslayer and Arctic, known as the NightWing-IceWing War. The feud is at least on pause as of Darkness of Dragons.[68] Ancient NightWing nests were depicted as bowls of carved stone that are lined with black fur, and eggs were typically hatched atop high mountain peaks.

Pre-Darkstalker era NightWings were the first tribe to develop a written Dragon language. They taught it to the other tribes and traveling NightWing teachers would fly across Pyrrhia to bring scrolls to the tribes.[70] They had scrolls from other tribes including architecture plans and records from NightWing scriptoriums. They also took medicine seriously and would discover healing techniques that they would share with the other tribes. They would use their powers to protect the other tribes.

• NightWings appear to have excellent night vision but still cannot see in total darkness as well as SeaWings can.[72] • It is mentioned by Hope that NightWings are trying to readjust to their natural (nocturnal) schedule in Darkness of Dragons.[73] • NightWings are shown to be very loyal to their tribe and have an arrogance similar to the IceWings. Morrowseer once explained to Starflight: "We assumed NightWing superiority was something all NightWings hatched with • NightWings are able to hang from the ceiling like bats.[75] This is depicted in the graphic novel.[76] • In Darkstalker's era, all NightWing dragonets owned these scrolls: Geography of Pyrrhia, Myths of the Lost Continent, Ten Little Scavengers (Recipes included!), and Goodnight, Moons.[77] • Humans described NightWings as the least dangerous type of dragon tribe, due to very few of them being seen SkyWings:

SkyWings, also known as mountain dragons, sky dragons, or fire dragons to humans, are a Pyrrhiandragon tribe residing in the mountains on the "wing" of Pyrrhia. They are currently ruled by Queen Ruby. The SkyWings were originally allied with Burn and later on, the MudWings during the War of SandWing Succession. This alliance was upheld by both Ex-Queen Scarlet and her daughter, Queen Ruby. SkyWings are based on traditional Western dragons.[event 1] They have red,[2] crimson,[3] orange,[4] yellow,[5] or rust-colored[6] scales. SkyWings typically have yellow,[7] orange,[8] or amber[9] eyes, though Peril and Sky are exceptions, having blue eyes due to their conditions.[10][11] SkyWing scales are "jewel-hard."[12] They also have the largest wings of any tribe,[event 2] and long, curved horns on their heads. Most SkyWing snouts are thin and long, with a nose-spike, and an extra horn on their jaw. SkyWing eggs are a translucent white when nearing their hatching day. Most known SkyWings have stereotypically been portrayed as short-tempered, militaristic, anti-social, grumpy, mean, and fond of violence. Tsunami noted that the SkyWing soldiers in the SkyWing palace looked underfed, under-rested, and uncontent,[13] while an unnamed MudWing in the Talons of Peace made a joke about how all SkyWings were either red and grumpy or orange and grumpy.[ SkyWings are shown to eat scavengers, mountain goats,[15] chicken, foxes, deer, bobcats, cows, pigs, sheep, and rodents.[16] They have been described to eat roasted seagulls.[17] SkyWings also grow their own crops.[18] Their diet is also noted to consist of cougars, squirrels, rabbits, and birds of prey. SkyWings are the fastest fliers of any dragon tribe due to their enormous wings and endurance,[19] and they are built for flying longer distances because of their stamina.[20] SkyWing dragonets also learn to fly at a fairly young age.[21] They are capable of breathing fire and are considered powerful fighters.[22] They can see farther[23] and have better cold resistance than most tribes, excluding IceWings.[event 3] According to Morrowseer, SkyWings, like NightWings, can hold their fire until it is at maximum temperature

A SkyWing dragonet in a twin egg may develop a condition known as firescales. This is when a dragon has "too much fire," causing their scales to be incredibly hot to the touch, and anything flammable to touch their scales will burn almost instantly. Dragons with firescales cannot burn flammable objects inside their mouth.[25] Firescales are much hotter than the average dragon's fire.[26] In addition, any rain that comes into contact with a firescales dragon will immediately evaporate into steam.[27] Firescales may occur when one twin "sucks the fire" out of the other, leaving the non-firescales twin fireless and much sicklier.[28][29] Due to the dangerous nature of this condition, SkyWing law demands the killing of dragonets hatched with firescales by dropping them off of tall mountains Firescales dragons are immune to frostbreath[30] and are often difficult to injure due to weapons melting or burning before or on contact.[31] Frostbreath causes temporary numbness to firescales dragons when they are hit.[30]Hope states that she had not seen a firescales dragon in a long time,[32] implying that there might have been a dragon with firescales in her time. They were also mentioned to be alive over 3,000 years ago.

Animus magic SkyWings had animus magic during or prior to Darkstalker, but they would kill any animus dragonets because they are too "dangerous" to live just like firescales.[34] They had a test for all SkyWing dragons as soon as they are able to speak in order to test for animus magic. They would sit the SkyWing in front of a small fire and have them tell it to go out. If the fire went out, they would kill the dragonet.[35] This might not have always been the case, as at least one animus dragon was alive 3,000 years ago.[36] They have not had an animus dragon in centuries.

SkyWings are regarded as grumpy and aggressive by other tribes; under Scarlet's rule, many citizens appeared thin and grumpy.[13] They seem to value entertainment a great deal, as they enjoyed gladiatorial combat in the SkyWing Arena during the war. SkyWings have orchestras who perform music during celebrations.[38] SkyWings dance, sing, and clap wings at parties.[39] Even in times of general peace, SkyWings still had minor skirmishes with IceWings and SandWings.[40] SkyWing do not tolerate dangerous differences in the Sky Kingdom.[9] As such, they killed their animus dragons[9] and firescales dragonets as soon as they were discovered.[28] SkyWings also kill dragons for having too little fire.

Most SkyWing dragonets are raised in a wingery. The wingery is a place for young dragonets to grow and play.[41] As SkyWings learn flight early in their lives, the wingery contains a place for dragonets to practice flying, fighting, etc

Most SkyWing families are fairly loose. Not all dragons seek partners, instead they may register themselves in a breeding program to be paired up by the queen. SkyWing weddings are quiet and involve the two dragons saying ritual words while flying with each other above the clouds and then registering themselves in an ancestry scroll. During Scarlet's reign, weddings involved fights in the arena.[43] SkyWings have a traditional, ceremonial burial system, which consists of wrapping a deceased dragon's body in white cloth or silk and offering it to the sky for seven days before being burned. This allows the dragon's spirit to fly free, reincarnating into a SkyWing instead of a dragon from any other tribe.[44] The ceremony may have been stopped during the war,[45] but it carried on in Ruby's rule.[44] A cave near the peak of Jade Mountain is a notable location where SkyWings have held this ceremony Before Queen Firestorm , there was an old tradition called the Clash of Claws Tournament that the SkyWings would hold every seven years. SkyWings from across the kingdom would come to the palace to compete in a weeklong competition to prove themselves to the queen, tribe, and kingdom. If they won, they were granted glory, fame, and a seat at the queen's table of advisors. There were seven challenges that were done over the seven days of the tournament.

List of the Clash of Claws challenges

Flame: Competitors compare intensity, precision, and heat of their fire.[47] Endurance: Competitors fly to the tallest mountain in the kingdom to collect a token and race back to the palace to test their speed, stamina, and resistance to the cold.[47] Strength: Competitors fly as high as possible while carrying a heavy boulder, then throw the boulder as far as they can.[47] Cunning: Competitors go through elaborate mazes with secret rooms full of treasure that they must acquire while avoiding snares and other traps.[48] Guile: Competitors race to find a scavenger and bring them back to the palace alive and unharmed.[48] Wit: Competitors must correctly answer a series of riddles crafted by the queen and her advisors.[48] Speed: Competitors fly in a race to determine who is the fastest in the tribe

The SkyWing Arena was originally used for parades, art shows, dance performances, and beauty contests before Queen Scarlet converted it into a gladiatorial arena where war prisoners would fight to the death for her entertainment.[49] SkyWings, MudWings, and SandWings all attended these events as an audience and would throw gemstones to the fighters.[50][51] The prisoners were chained to tall pillars, forming a ring around the arena, with their wings clamped and wires connecting them to one another.[52] If a dragon reached a certain number of victories, they would be set free. No prisoners were actually released in accordance with this clause, as they would be sent to fight Peril, Ex-Queen Scarlet's "Champion" before reaching the necessary amount.[53] After her ascension to the throne, Queen Ruby turned the arena into a hospital for all the dragons wounded in the War of the SandWing Succession.

SkyWings can be named after birds (such as Kestrel , Osprey , and Hawk ), features of the landscape (such as Cliff , Canyon , and Sunset ), gemstones or minerals (such as Ruby, Garnet , and Tourmaline), actions during flight (such as Tailwind and Soar ), shades of red and orange (such as Vermilion , Scarlet, and Russet ), and generic fire-related words (such as Firestorm and Flame ).

• A SkyWing's hearing is said to be sharper when they are flying.[55] • SkyWings were described as "the friendly tribe" in the era of Darkstalker by Fathom, though he may have been sarcastic.[56] • SkyWings make a particular hissing noise before breathing fire. This same hissing noise can be used as a threat of anger, as shown by Kestrel, or a respectful noise as shown by the spectators at Queen Scarlet's arena.[57] • Winter, when wearing the Pyrite mask, described SkyWings as "freer than any other tribe, more loyal to one another, and more independent."[58] • SkyWings prefer to live high among the peaks in their kingdom, instead of down lowe

IceWing:

IceWings, also known as ice dragons or arctic dragons to humans, are a Pyrrhiandragon tribe that resides in the Ice Kingdom, the "head" of the dragon-shaped Pyrrhia, which is known for its cold winds, freezing temperatures, and, formerly, the Great Ice Cliff (also known as the gift of defense), before it was destroyed by Queen Snowfall,[1] their current queen. The IceWings supported Blaze during the War of SandWing Succession, joining her alliance with the promise of a large portion of land near the SandWings' northern border if Blaze had won

IceWing scales can range from silvery-gray[3] and white[4] to pale shades of blue[5] and purple,[6] intended to blend into their icy surroundings. Their coloring has been described as "silver like the moons," "pale blue like ice,"[7] "as pale as the moons,"[8] or "moon-white scales."[9] IceWings have can have various shades of blue and gray eyes, with examples being dark blue,[10] sky blue,[11] icy blue,[12] or stormy gray eyes.[13] They also have forked blue tongues[14] and dark blue blood and guts.[15][16] The head of an IceWing is shaped like a diamond and is very narrow, with spikes continuing down their back and tail and a ruff of extra spikes behind their heads. They are usually lean dragons with whip-thin tails that have icicle-shaped spines, ending in very sharp tips. They have serrated claws for gripping the ice.[17] Some IceWings have unusual patterns, such as Lynx, with dark freckles or markings on their faces and wings,[18] and Mink, with feathery patterns of gray along her wings, like whiskers or tufts of fur.[10] When upset, some IceWings have been shown to ruffle up the spikes around their necks.

IceWings prefer to eat creatures that live in the Ice Kingdom, such as reindeer, whales, penguins, hawks, polar bears, seals, walruses, and fish.[12] IceWing meals have been described as containing "bowls of dripping meat."[20] They also consume scavengers,[21] though not very often, as they are rare in the Ice Kingdom. Seals are common among the lower classes due to the gift of subsistence, which consists of holes in the ice found in three different villages where the lower-born IceWings live which are enchanted to always give the hunter a seal when they stick a talon in.[22] IceWings would also eat frozen berries and even have ice cream.[23][24] IceWings typically enjoy their food raw.[25] For event feasts such as coronations, IceWings may consume elaborate courses, such as kelp and sedge salads garnished with garlic and ginger, crab soup with moss, whale skin topped with polar bear meat, narwhal blubber seasoned with fulmar oil, diced puffin breast, grated gannet stomach stew, scavenger liver, shark heart, and desserts such as shaved ice flavored with maple syrup and lemons.[26] They will also eat dishes from other tribes, such as frozen cream made from milk and melons, from the MudWings

IceWings can withstand subzero temperatures and very bright light.[28] They have serrated claws for gripping slippery ice, which were described as "ten times sharper than normal claws" and "like getting clawed four times with each claw instead of once" when used offensively.[29][30] They are also known for having sharper eyesight than the other Pyrrhian dragon tribes,[31] and their scales emit an icy-cold chill,[32] which can freeze tiny drops of water on their bodies.[33] They can handle flight distances well but are weaker when subjected to heat.[34] They can also exhale a freezing weapon called frostbreath,[35] which appears as a cloud of sparkling smoke,[32] and can cause limbs to fall clean off from frostbite.[36] Scars from frostbreath look like blackened blisters, as seen on Mayfly.[37] The only known direct cure is the gift of healing, a set of narwhal horns enchanted by Queen Diamond to heal accidental frostbreath injuries. In other cases, fire, bags of hot rocks, hot mud, or related heat-emitting liquids are used to melt the ice and treat frostbreath on other tribes.

Frostbreath forms ice crystals where it makes contact with dirt,[39] forms tiny chunks of ice when used on rain,[40] and can be used to extinguish fires.[41] An IceWing can be prevented from using their frostbreath for a short time by raising their body temperature either via a warm environment[42] or manually heating them up (hot metal, fire, etc.).[3]Fjord's scales were described as "dripping with silvery liquid" while in the arena, which indicates that IceWings may be more vulnerable to warm conditions than other tribes.[5] A dragon affected by frostbreath will first feel freezing pain, shocking the affected area into paralysis, and is quite painful for the first few seconds until the area becomes numb. Victims of frostbreath will sometimes lose consciousness.[43]SkyWings who hatch with firescales cannot be hurt by frostbreath, though an impacted area may be numb for some time.[44]

A fire-breathing dragon can survive having frostbreath shot down their throat for a short time, but the only known way to survive a long period of time after sustaining internal frostbreath injuries is by staying immersed in lava.[45] Internal frostbreath injuries can eventually overwhelm a dragon if they leave the lava,[46] which is shown in Battlewinner's case. As described in Moon Rising, IceWings have sharp, glittering, and bright minds that are hard to read. Groups of IceWings will "reflect" off of one another and become even more difficult to read.

Animus magic IceWings were once known for having more animus dragons than any other tribe, as well as having magic the longest.[48] These dragons were carefully bred into the royal family and monitored with extreme caution, with strict rules for the use of their powers to keep their soul from turning evil. IceWing animus dragons were only permitted to use their power once,[49] for the benefit of the tribe, at the gifting ceremony on their seventh hatching day.[49] Some animus IceWings went against the rules, such as Queen Diamond who used her power four times — once for her normal animus gift, the gift of healing, another on Foeslayer to come back to the Ice Kingdom, again for the gift of vengeance (the Diamond Caves), and once to enchant the IceWing crown to make the wearer hate NightWings as much as she had. IceWings host a test similar to the SeaWings' Talons of Power ceremony[event 1] to find animus dragons.[50] The IceWing's line of animus dragons ended when Arctic, the last known IceWing animus, ran away with Foeslayer to the Night Kingdom, leading the IceWings to believe that the NightWings stole their magic.[51]

Known Animus Gifts

The gift of compromise: This gift is a scepter, carved from dark blue rock and set with little diamonds, which reminds Snowfall of NightWings.[52] It is unknown what its purpose is. The gift of defense: The Great Ice Cliff, a wall on the border of the Ice Kingdom that shoots icicle spears at anyone who is not an IceWing. This feature was first seen when one of Blaze's soldiers attempted to cross it. IceWing hybrids can also cross the cliff, as stated by Typhoon, a SeaWing-IceWing hybrid. Queen Snowfall intends to tear it down after punching a hole in it at the end of The Dangerous Gift, and it is currently under destruction as of A Guide to the Dragon World.[53] The gift of diplomacy: Three bracelets that allow the wearer to safely cross the Great Ice Cliff despite their tribe and keep the wearer warm in the Ice Kingdom, as well as a heated dome near the SandWing border, so they do not need to wear the bracelet; created by Penguin.[54] These bracelets were stolen by NightWings, however, and have been lost for about two thousand years. The NightWings of Prudence's time suspected there to be a fourth bracelet that the IceWings were keeping hidden. The gift of elegance: An enchantment on the IceWing palace that makes the inner walls mimic the weather outside.[54] The gift of healing: Queen Diamond's first official tribe gift. She enchanted a set of narwhal horns to cure any IceWings of frostbreath wounds.[49] Snowfall thinks that the inspiration for the gift was that Diamond herself was hit by frostbreath when she was a dragonet.[54]

• The gift of light: A tree made of ice, the Moon Globe Tree, enchanted and hand-carved by Frostbite. The tree grows moon globes which, once picked from the branches, hover over the shoulder of the dragon who picked them and cast a soft glow. They also have different brightness settings that can be changed by rotating the globe. Glory wanted a cutting to grow in the rainforest. • The gift of order: A wall that shows every IceWing aristocrat's name and their current ranking. The names can be slid around like abacus beads if the IceWing rises or falls in rank. Dead IceWing names can be scratched out. There are Circles for each rank, with two different systems for adults and dragonets. There is an alcove in the wall set aside for the IceWing queen,[55] and the queen must consider that all IceWings on the Gift of Order are important to the Kingdom. The queen must also reorder the ranks of the dragons in the IceWing palace every night. It was destroyed at the end of The Dangerous Gift by Snowfall, although a piece of it was given to Jade Mountain Academy for future study.[53] • The gift of splendor: The main IceWing palace, enchanted by animus twins to grow from the ground and never be cracked, melted, or harmed in any way from the outside.[53] • The gift of stealth: A pair of pale silver wristbands set with diamonds that can make one or more dragons invisible.[56] While dragons are invisible, they must turn visible again before adding more dragons to the invisible group. Dragons in the invisibility circle are only able to be heard by each other. Snowfall uses it to disguise her army when she first meets the dragons from Pantala, then later to catch Crystal and Sky, on two separate occasions. They were given to Sundew when she left with the stealth group for Pantala. • The gift of strength: A delicate and elegant tiara, which is smaller than the IceWing crown, and gives immense strength to the wearer. Snowfall used it in The Dangerous Gift to destroy part of the Great Ice Cliff and the entirety of the gift of order. • The gift of subsistence: Three ice holes on the outskirts of the Ice Kingdom where if a dragon sticks their claws into it, they will always catch a seal. Winter thinks it is narrow-minded because it is built only for the lower ranks; any dragon who cared about their ranking would not accept food which came so easily.[57] It was created by Caribou after Snowstorm showed her how the outer villages of the Ice Kingdom lived.[22] • The gift of understanding: Only part of this gift is available in the Forbidden Treasury, a piece of unwearable silver.[58] It is unknown what its purpose is. The gift is connected to a story Tui has not finished yet.[event 2] • The gift of vengeance: The Diamond Caves were Queen Diamond's second animus gift, enchanted so that anyone who touches Hope (previously named Foeslayer, a NightWing locked inside with animus-touched shackles) with a diamond-tipped spear can kill her (used for the Diamond Trial). The shackles that bound her were enchanted to refreeze her and revive her each time she was killed. The only way to remove the shackles was to breathe frostbreath on them (Queen Diamond added this to the enchantment in case the IceWing tribe needed Hope as a bargaining chip, but thought that no IceWing would ever even think of freeing her). Together, they were created because Queen Diamond was not satisfied with killing Hope just once, and instead wanted her to suffer for all eternity. • The gift of vision: The gift of vision is an animus-touched ring created by the IceWing animus, Opal. It is enchanted and only shows up for certain queens who are not ready to rule or need to be taught a lesson to become more open-minded. The wearer cannot take this ring off until they have fully learned their lesson. It allows the wearer to see visions through other dragons while the wearer themselves is sleeping, which makes them more open-minded towards other dragons' situations and circumstances. It is a silver ring with a big opal gem in the middle, and it cannot be destroyed. This is shown when Snowfall tried to ask Luna for assistance to burn off the ring with her flamesilk, or when she was slamming it on the rock. IceWings appear to be fairly sophisticated, strict, and believe themselves superior in comparison to the other tribes, being the only Pyrrhian dragons to have a hierarchy. They are very prideful and often perceived as rude and arrogant by dragons of other tribes.[59] There are strict IceWing codes of behavior: most IceWings agree that the only way to make dragonets strong is to expose all of their weaknesses, and that shame and fear are powerful weapons in teaching. If everyone is disappointed in a dragonet, the consensus is that they will work harder to prove themselves.[60] Most dragonets are seasoned warriors in the Ice Kingdom.[61] Even in times of general peace, IceWings still had minor skirmishes with SandWings and SkyWings.[62] Royal IceWings are typically not affectionate, as Winter mentioned that hugging their family members would be considered undignified.[63] The lines of guards that attend the IceWing queen are perfectly coiled,[64] and IceWings are noble to their queen's orders.[65] It is painful to hold the IceWing guard stance for too long,[64] but Winter practiced for hours to get the pose perfectly right: his wings folded exactly so, his tail in the right position, his snout up and shoulders back.[64] The IceWing queen, according to the ancient traditions of the tribe, was required to assess and adjust the gift of order each night.[66] She also has a council of powerful IceWings to guide and support her.[67] Most queens are killed in royal challenges in a battlefield, an arena, or before the entire court in a bloodstained throne room.[68] Royal IceWings in the time of Darkstalker stored the frozen heads of deceased royal family members on walls in the palace and slid the deceased's corpses into the ocean.[69] This tradition is no longer practiced.[event 3] IceWings living in villages outside the palace are less obsessed with status and Circles.[70] The outer villages are made of ice structures and are named hyphenated phrases.[71] In the outer villages, scrolls are typically written on sealskin and are circulated between IceWing villages by wandering librarians. They often have revered storytellers, or bards, who memorize stories that they sing or recite. Stories include tales of the Great Ice Dragon and histories of the IceWing tribe and their heroes. Dragonets are chosen to be their village's bard based on memory and performance skill. Caribou claimed that it is every young dragon's dream to be their village's bard.[72] IceWings have a mythological figure called the Great Ice Dragon, whom they swear by the teeth of.[47] They also swear by snow monsters[73] and believe in spirits under the ice.[74] IceWings can have pets such as arctic foxes.[75] IceWings have parties, talent shows, and competitions frequently and are always working hard to make something wonderful to share with the rest of the tribe. These include recipes, scrolls, songs, and jewelry.[76] Many IceWings polish their scales to maintain a clean look. This can be done via rolling in snow,[77] swimming in cold water,[78] or other various ways. IceWings may have executioners, but this could have only been a threat by Snowfall

Before the reign of Queen Snowfall, the aristocracy and nobility of the IceWing tribe were divided into seven ranks of status, known as Circles. The First Circle was the top, highest, or best, while the Seventh Circle was the bottom, lowest, or worst. IceWings below the age of seven were ranked as dragonets and graduated to the adult rankings on their seventh hatching day.[80] A dragonet's ranking on their seventh hatching day determined the course of the rest of their life, and if a dragonet reached their seventh hatching day in the Seventh Circle, they were stationed to an arctic outpost for the rest of their lives.[81] In families in the Ice Kingdom, the highest-ranked parent chose the names for their dragonets, regardless of gender, and were then approved by the queen.[82] This system was managed via the gift of order and consisted of a wall of ice showing the rankings of every noble and dragonet. The queen was required to adjust these rankings daily. Some noble dragons wore accessories to indicate their rankings, such as a necklace with circles on it.[83] IceWing dragonets raised their ranking through hunting, training, performing traditional IceWing customs, and passing tests given by their guardians.[84] In the dragonet rankings, each hunt was still a chance to prove themselves and increase their rank.[84] The highest-ranked dragonets were more respected. When a dragonet reached their seventh hatching day in the First or Second Circle, they would be housed in the queen's palace and allowed to provide input on important matters. When an adult went into Third Circle or lower, they could have lost their right to live in the palace.[85] If an IceWing died or was exiled, their names were slashed through on the gift of order, as shown in Hailstorm's case. If a dragonet went down in the rankings, their parents would too.[85] The gift of order has since been destroyed by Queen Snowfall.[86] She is also working on destroying the gift of defense so that IceWings can become more open-minded to other tribes willing to help them during crises.

The Diamond Trial, also known as the gift of vengeance, was a way for IceWing dragonets to increase their Circle ranking in the tribe, generally as a last-minute effort to switch the places of two dragonets (the topmost and bottommost positions). It involved entering the Diamond Caves with narwhal horn spears, meant to touch a frozen NightWing: Foeslayer. When she was thawed, both contestants had to battle her. Foeslayer was then frozen again after she had been killed, leaving the two dragonets to fight to the death. However, the trial was rigged; only one of the dragonets, the one the IceWings wanted to win, was given information about the trial and how the spears actually worked. The trial became defunct when Winter secretly freed Foeslayer during the events of Winter Turning.

Before Queen Snowfall, IceWing names were chosen by the family member with the highest Circle rank and the names had to be approved by the queen.[82] It is unknown if this naming convention is still practiced. They can be named after ice formations like Glacier and Icicle , polar animals (both terrestrial and aquatic) such as Penguin, Lynx, Narwhal , and Ermine , words for "white" in various languages such as Alba and Hvitur as well as shades of white such as Ivory , polar landscapes such as Tundra , polar weather such as Hailstorm or Snowfall, and mountains such as Changbai . They can also be named after blue and white gemstones such as Crystal, Diamond, and Opal, as well as cold seasons like Winter. • IceWings may use fruit juice to make popsicles.[event 4] • There have been legends of animus IceWings that have gone mad from overuse of magic.[49] • IceWings have a specific sleeping schedule.[87] • IceWings have trouble smelling things properly in more crowded environments like forests or towns.[59] • IceWings can use their polished scales to make mirror signals by reflecting sunlight.[78] • There is an old IceWing tale that eating a shark heart can give a dragon strength; however, Glacier noted that many IceWings would get sick from eating it.[ SilkWings:

SilkWings are one of the three tribes that reside on Pantala , the other two tribes being HiveWings and LeafWings . The last SilkWing queen was Queen Monarch at the time of the Tree Wars , and the tribe was ruled by Queen Wasp after the Tree Wars until the epilogue of The Flames of Hope , where a group known as the SilkWing Assembly took control. They currently reside within the LeafSilk Kingdom which they share with the LeafWings and some HiveWings. They are descended from the BeetleWings

SilkWings have scales like sliced gems[1] and small spines running down their back to the tip of their tails. Their scales appear to be somewhat iridescent, similar to NightWing scales. Like RainWings , they have slim bodies and curved horns that are almost identical in shape, but much longer and thinner. They have a pair of long, furling[1] antennae on the brow above the eyes. A ridge above their eyes runs over their horns, giving SilkWings a plated appearance.

SilkWings hatch without any wings. When they turn six years old, they undergo a Metamorphosis where they spin a cocoon and come out five days later with their wings. When they do this, they enter a trance-like state shortly before creating their cocoon.[2] SilkWings have two pairs of wings, one pair smaller than the other, with membranes that have rounded edges. SilkWings have butterfly-like wings, which appear similar to butterfly or moth wings in shape. Their wings also can have spots and other patterns on them. The bigger pair of wings appear to have four digits that the membrane is stretched between. The smaller pair of wings are attached slightly below the larger pair and have two digits. According to Tui on the Wings of Fire Forums, SilkWing wings are just as strong as any dragon's wings,[event 1] rather than weak like an insect's wings. In some cases, as shown on the back cover of The Lost Continent, SilkWings can have the "tail-streamers" that swallowtail butterflies do on their lower, smaller wings. SilkWings can be any color under the sun except black, such as olive green, aquamarine,[3] lavender,[4] indigo,[5] amber, orange,[6] dark purple,[7] peach,[8] gray,[9] and red.[10] They sometimes have darker accent colors on their scales. The wing's membranes appear to be different colors too, as well as certain segments between the digits being a different color than the rest of the wings. Their eyes can be any color.[

SilkWings are vegetarians.[12][13] Their diet includes yams, okra,[14] garbanzo beans,[15] kale, kumquats,[16] fruits, honey,[13] and persimmons.[17] They also enjoy honey drops,[18] nectar, chocolate,[19] and various candies

SilkWings can use their antennae to sense vibrations in the air,[20] and are able to predict the weather and sense danger. At six years old, SilkWings undergo Metamorphosis. They enter a cocoon for about five days,[21] emerging with two pairs of wings and silk glands in their wrists. Metamorphosis is preceded by aching wing buds, experiencing a nervous and fuzzy feeling, and itchy or painful silk glands.[22]Swordtail notes that SilkWings are great climbers.[23] They have a precise internal clock to keep their days on schedule and warn them when the rainy season is coming.[24] This clock needs a little while to adjust when a SilkWing travels a long distance.[25]

Some SilkWings have the ability to produce flamesilk. Flamesilk is used by the HiveWings to create glass and illuminate the insides of the Hives, though different types can be made for different purposes, including a type that emits heat and does not burn the holder. Flamesilk dragons cannot be burned by flamesilk,[26] but they are not immune to regular fire.[event 2] This ability is genetic, and if one parent is a flamesilk, their offspring have a fifty percent chance of being flamesilk as well.[27]Cricket notes that flamesilk is expensive, and that a single strand can last a whole moon cycle.[28] According to Luna, there are five types of flamesilk.[29]

  1. Gold Silk: Gold Silk is just like regular silk, only it shimmers with a golden color. It does not glow or burn.
  2. Firefly Silk: Firefly Silk gives off a little bit of light, "like holding a firefly in your talons", but it does not burn.
  3. Glow Silk: Glow Silk feels a little warm and glows brighter, closer to normal fire, but it does not hurt.
  4. Blaze Silk: Blaze Silk can burn and hurt non-flamesilk dragons. Luna thinks that blaze silk is the kind found in most lanterns.[30]
  5. Sun Silk: It is extremely bright and so hot it can burn through stone. Luna says to put it out, you must drown it in water.[31] Luna can only make a little bit at a time. It will also burn non-flamesilks. Pre-Tree Wars Before the Tree Wars, SilkWings were tree dwellers who lived in the forests of Pantala.[11] It was common for SilkWings fresh out of the cocoon to take time off of school to explore the continent and decide on a job they wanted to do.[32] Flamesilks lived like normal dragons and traded their flamesilk, as it was very valuable to the Pantalan dragons who did not have fire.[33] SilkWing queens used to pick their successors from their daughters.[34] The queen would meet with the HiveWing and LeafWing queens every few moons to smooth out disputes.[

When Wasp took control of the tribe, SilkWings were separated from the HiveWings. They did not have a voice in the Hives' government system, and under Wasp's rule, SilkWings were second class citizens and servants who had almost no rights compared to HiveWings. They had strict rules they had to follow[36] and their school curriculum was used to try and make them feel inferior, scare them away from leaving the Hives, and teach them things that were essential to their limited option of future professions.[37] They also practiced emergency drills to protect themselves in case a web was falling, if there was a LeafWing attack, or if they had to get to a Hive quickly for safety.[38] They also learned about silk weaving, web structure, the history of the Tree Wars, and especially following directions.[39] SilkWings had no control over the job that was assigned to them as they were picked by the HiveWings because they thought that the SilkWings were "overly sensitive" and "prone to fits of fancy." Common professions included construction worker, web worker, spinners, weavers, servant workers, performers,[40] and other low-ranked jobs like stall owner. It has been mentioned that the most disobedient SilkWings were typically assigned construction work given that it is considered to be very unpleasant.[41] In some Hives, dragonets may be assigned to work as well.[42] SilkWings were not allowed to divorce unless with Wasp's approval,[43] and were assigned partners by Wasp and her sisters, rather than having an ability to choose their own.[44] Partners were assigned to SilkWings soon after their metamorphosis.[45] SilkWings were branded on their right[46] palm at a very young age.[47] The SilkWing's initial on their palm is a big letter, while their parent's initials are smaller letters,[47] forming a triangle shape.[46] The SilkWing's initial is at the top, while the parents' are at the right and left bottom corners. SilkWings were also cuffed at a young age. These bronze wrist cuffs had their school and other personal information inscribed on it[48] so they could be identified at checkpoints.[47] All cuffs could inject toxin into the wrist to make dragons lose consciousness in case of betrayal.[49] Bands could be cut off by using flamesilk.[48] After the events of The Flames of Hope, the SilkWings allied with the LeafWings to create the LeafSilk Kingdom. This kingdom is ruled by the SilkWing Assembly, a council of two hundred dragons SilkWings are named after different species of butterfly, such as Blue or Swordtail, or different species of moth, such as Luna or Io.

• According to the Pantalan Dragon Guide, SilkWings are stereotyped as being beautiful, passive, and gentle. • It was hinted that the LeafWings and SilkWings who fled from Pantala were not the first to arrive on Pyrrhia, as half of a SilkWing's wing was displayed in the Weirdling Tower.[event 3] • After the events of The Flames of Hope, the SilkWings are the only tribe in both Pyrrhia and Pantala that are not ruled by any queen, but rather a governing body of multiple SilkWings. • Due to their vegetarianism, SilkWings have no difficulty accepting that creatures like humans are clever and should not be eaten. They feel similarly about other animals such as zebras, wildebeests, lobsters, and meerkats.[51] • Cricket explained that there was an ongoing competition in Jewel Hive where HiveWings attempted to hire the prettiest SilkWing to "sit there and look pretty" LeafWings:

LeafWings are one of the three tribes, alongside the SilkWings and HiveWings, that inhabit the continent of Pantala. They are the only living tribe that was mentioned in the Legend of the Hive, the other tribe being the now-extinct BeetleWings. They fled Pyrrhia along with BeetleWings after being banished from the Leaf Kingdom by Queen Summit. Before the events of the Tree Wars, the LeafWings were ruled by Queen Sequoia. In The Lost Continent, many SilkWings and HiveWings believed the LeafWings had been exterminated during the Tree Wars, although a few believed that they were still alive. Many of the Hives were filled with propaganda posters depicting LeafWings as vicious, cruel, and terrifying. Ex-Queen Wasp antagonized them so much that most of the trees, believed to be symbolic of the LeafWings, were destroyed after the Tree Wars, and trees were banned by HiveWing law from being included in artwork. This is most likely because Wasp believed the trees gave power to the LeafWings. In The Hive Queen, Sundew stated that the PoisonWings were planning to restart the Tree Wars, and that the surviving LeafWings lived in the Poison Jungle. They began their mission by burning Bloodworm Hive. In The Poison Jungle and The Dangerous Gift, Hazel temporarily served as queen of the LeafWings while Sequoia was under the control of the othermind. As of The Flames of Hope, most of the LeafWings reside within the LeafSilk Kingdom

LeafWings can be various shades of green and brown, even to the point of being nearly black in color.[1] They can also sometimes have golden[2] accents or pinkish red streaks on their bodies and wings.[3] They have green[4] or brown[5] eyes and webbed spines along their neck and back, similar to those of a SeaWing. The webbing along their back splits into individual pieces near the base of the tail, which are shaped like leaves. Their snouts are slightly curved, with a raised ridge on the end. LeafWings have a flat plated tail, ending in a leaf-shaped oval at the tip. Their wings are leaf-like, playing directly into their namesake. They are also slightly transparent, with veins in the webbing and rounded edges. Their horns appear to be skinny, curved, and flat-ended, and the scales above their eyes continue over the top of their horns, giving it a partially plated look. Their scales are uneven and vaguely resemble chloroplasts and plant cells. They have a plated underbelly and a slender body shape. Their legs seem to be slightly short and thin. The PoisonWings have been seen carrying leaf or grass pouches containing deadly plants and insects.[6]

LeafWings are somewhat autotrophic, being able to absorb energy from the sun that allows them to eat infrequently.[event 1] They are omnivores and consume animals in the Poison Jungle, such as panthers,[7] snails, capybaras,[8] frogs, insects, and wild pigs.[9] LeafWings also consume taro, sugared grasshoppers, and chocolate, usually as a snack or treat.[10][11] LeafWings sometimes cook their food for occasions such as all-tribe feasts.[12] LeafWings are also noted to eat kambu, potatoes,[13] and fruits such as mangos,[8] bananas, papayas, avocados, and dragonberries

LeafWings can absorb energy from sunlight, similar to RainWings, and are accomplished gardeners.[14] They may possess leafspeak, which allows dragons to talk to plants. Leafspeakers may convince already existing plants or seeds to grow at an accelerated rate,[15] grow in a certain way,[16] or convince the plant to attack (or not attack) a specific target, though they cannot produce them from nothing.[17] As leafspeak is genetic, selective breeding may be employed to achieve stronger leafspeak abilities; two leafspeakers may produce a dragonet with stronger leafspeak than either of them.[18] Most LeafWings appear to have exceptional knowledge of plants and insects, using them as weapons against other dragons.[19] Some LeafWings can also swim.

Pre-Exodus According to Euphoria, before her plans with Magnolia to merge the Beetle Kingdom and Leaf Kingdom, the two tribes would fight over every last acorn.[21] Post-Exodus LeafWings who did not end up on the Dungeon Isle fled to Pantala alongside the BeetleWings. More information flying in soon... Pre-Tree Wars Before the Tree Wars, the LeafWings lived everywhere on Pantala where there were trees.[9] They had many libraries[22] and it was suggested that LeafWing dragonets were educated at academies.[23] The LeafWings celebrated an event known as the New Year of the Trees which they continued to celebrate during and just after the Tree Wars.[24] It is unknown if this celebration still occurs. The LeafWing queen would meet with the SilkWing and HiveWing queen every few moons to smooth out disputes

Post-Tree Wars After the events of the Tree Wars, the tribe split into two groups; half of them staying loyal to Queen Sequoia and wanting to lay low and isolate themselves until Wasp's death, and the other half united under Linden and swore revenge against the HiveWings for destroying their trees.[26] Each group claims to be the "real LeafWings,"[27] calling the others a separate tribe. However, Luna considers the LeafWings as a whole to be the fiercest tribe on Pantala.[28] The violent LeafWings were dubbed "PoisonWings" by the other group for being needlessly violent and naming their dragonets after dangerous plants.[26]Commander Belladonna was the former ruler of the PoisonWings. She often assigned important missions, including one that ultimately led to the Burning of Bloodworm Hive. She planned for Sundew to marry Mandrake in order to breed more leafspeak dragonets so that they could become part of the PoisonWing community and help fight in the war. PoisonWing dragonets were not taught about the "SapWings" until they turned four.[29] Dragonets lived with their family in nests until they turn five, when they would leave to build their own.[30] The other group of LeafWings were called "SapWings" due to their need to seek for balance in unity and understanding instead of violence. Queen Sequoia was their former leader. Though the peaceful SapWings were often called spineless and brainless by the PoisonWings, they are shown to be more open-minded than the militaristic PoisonWings and less strict, unlike their rivals. Unlike the PoisonWings, they learned about the other half of the tribe in school.[26] The two factions bear animosity against each other for their methods and ideas, but Sequoia and Commander Belladonna did occasionally hold meetings in secret.[31] LeafWings were also told that SilkWings were not allowed to go to school.[32] After Wasp was defeated and replaced by Jewel as queen of the HiveWings, most of the LeafWings went to live in the LeafSilk Kingdom.[33] Literature is important to the LeafWings, especially after the Tree Wars. It was believed by the HiveWings and some SilkWings that the LeafWings could not read.[22] They use jungle ingredients for bookbinding, including sap for glue, tree fiber for threads, and bark with dye made from flowers for book covers.[34] They also use firefly lamps as a source of light

LeafWings were named after different types of trees that are found in forests and woods before the Tree Wars. After the Tree Wars, the LeafWings split into the PoisonWings and SapWings. The factions have a very stark difference in their naming systems. PoisonWings are named after poisonous plants; some are named after carnivorous plants or plants poisonous to smaller animals, such as Sundew, Nettle, Cobra Lily, and Mandrake. SapWings are named after trees, such as Willow, Sequoia, and Hawthorn.

• RainWings and LeafWings are related, and some RainWings traveled to Pantala in the past.[event 2] • LeafWings were the dominant tribe on Pantala before Clearsight arrived.[event 4] • The original, Pyrrhian kingdom of the LeafWings was overtaken by SkyWings after they were driven out. It bordered the Beetle Kingdom and had beautiful forests within it.[

HiveWings:

HiveWings are one of the three tribes that reside on Pantala. Prior to the ending of The Flames of Hope, HiveWings were the dominating tribe on Pantala; they enslaved the SilkWings and almost exterminated the LeafWings during the time of the Tree Wars. They are currently ruled by Queen Jewel. HiveWings are descended from BeetleWings, with a small amount of NightWing genes from Clearsight, who is the common ancestor of all HiveWings.

HiveWings have slender, strong, sharp, and muscular bodies. They have four thin, clear, and segmented wings that resemble those of wasps, dragonflies, and other insects. They have a slightly compact face, with a small axe-like ridge on the tip of their snout, and a second, larger curved ridge on the middle of their snout. They have a pair of long, curved, smooth-looking horns. Some HiveWings hatch with stingers in their wrists, tails, or under their claws that have the ability to inject venom. According to A Guide to the Dragons of Pantala, HiveWing scales can be red, yellow and/or orange.[1] They always have at least a few black scales mixed in inherited from their shared ancestor, Clearsight.[2] Some are almost completely black in color, such as Hawker[2] and Bombardier.[3] Some may also have green scales, such as Treehopper.[4] Some HiveWings, such as Katydid, Sandfly, and Scarab, have freckle-like scales, or splashes/splotches of scales like Cricket. HiveWing eye colors include black,[5] orange,[6] brown,[7] red,[8] yellow-gold,[9] green,[10] and amber.[11]Blue once mentioned that HiveWing eyes have a "green-yellow-orange glow".[12]Wasp was noted to have dark green blood,[13] but this may be unique to her as she was imbued with the breath of evil for about 50 years. HiveWing eggs are white HiveWings are omnivorous and eat animals that live on the savanna,[11] such as zebras,[15] wildebeest,[16] gazelle,[17] lions,[5] and antelope.[18] HiveWings also eat confections, such as honey drops and nectar,[19][11] as well as vegetables grown in the Hive greenhouses.[11] Sliced avocados were jokingly mentioned by Cricket.[20] Cricket stated that HiveWings do not like to eat most reptiles, such as lizards or snakes, because they believe they may be related to dragons.[21] They also drink tea[20] and coffee.[22] In The Hive Queen, Cricket recalled a drink that tasted like lime,[23] and one that smelled like coconut.[24] Cricket has been mentioned to smell like cinnamon,[25] and to have breath that smelled like apples.[26] Additionally, the Hive on the cover of The Hive Queen depicts a shop selling sharks, implying that sharks or other marine life may also be part of the HiveWing diet. Another shop on the cover appears to be selling mounds of herbs in baskets. According to the Pantalan dragon guide, the HiveWings' powers vary from dragon to dragon, but many do not have any powers at all.[27] These abilities are genetic and can be passed down.[28] HiveWing powers include sharp stingers extending from their wing tips,[29] wrists, claws, and tail, a deadly venom secreted from their stingers or teeth/fangs that is usually fatal, a paralyzing toxin known as nerve poison[30] that can immobilize targets in their claws or tail stinger, spraying boiling acid from a stinger on their tails,[31] and emitting a horrible stench said to smell like dead rotting things pickled in sulfur.[32] Some guards were assumed by Blue to be able to shoot poisonous darts from their tails.[33] HiveWings are born with the external evidence of their abilities, such as a tail stinger, but the venom inside only develops or becomes dangerous at around 2 years old.[31] Swordtail described the HiveWings' paralyzing toxin as "fire burning every nerve in your body", and "all you want to do is run or fly or even blink, but you cannot move a single muscle until the toxin wears off".[34] A dragon paralyzed by HiveWing venom can be "unparalyzed" when given a strong stimulant.[35] Similar to SilkWings, HiveWings have a precise internal clock which was described to keep their days on schedule and warn them when the rainy season is coming.[36] Wasp could control the mind of any HiveWing whom she had injected with the breath of evil, which was kept in her off-limits, personal greenhouse garden.[37] HiveWings had pure white eyes[38] when under the mind-control and moved in eerie unison.[39] Katydid describes the feeling as having an unstoppable urge to do what the queen commands them to do, similar to being hypnotized.[40

Pre-Tree Wars:

When the HiveWings first became their own tribe, they coexisted peacefully with the other Pantalan tribes.[41] Before the Tree Wars, HiveWings lived in the forests of Pantala with a preference for cliffs and caves.[11] It was originally believed that there was a list of HiveWings who inherited the throne in the Book of Clearsight,[42] but this was a lie that only the queen knew about. In actuality, HiveWing queens would choose their successor.[43] Even before the Tree Wars, HiveWing books left out the fact that the HiveWing tribe was created from Clearsight having dragonets with several BeetleWings and that HiveWings and SilkWings are related. The two tribes used to be able to intermingle until Scarab's great-great-grandmother ordered for it to stop. Scarab also noted that her great-great-grandmother was likely the queen who removed the information about Clearsight marrying BeetleWings from HiveWing history books.[44] The HiveWing queen would meet with the SilkWing and LeafWing queen every few moons to smooth out disputes

Post-Tree Wars HiveWings live in cities known as Hives that were formerly ruled by Queen Wasp and her female relatives. They were first-class citizens in their society, above the SilkWings. Wasp's relatives ruled the other Hives around the continent and held the title of lady rather than princess. The queen outranked the ladies, but according to Morpho, the queen did not mind-control them to give them the illusion of control.[46] HiveWing schools required dragonets to specialize in a subject at a young age. They would get a basic education at academies before continuing their specialized education at one of the nine Hive universities. For most dragonets, their career path was guided by their parents.[47] Each Hive had a university that specialized in a different career set.[48] It was difficult for HiveWings to get a divorce because they needed permission from the queen in order to do so.[49] If the queen allowed a HiveWing couple to get divorced, they had to go through a whole separation request process that was difficult.[49] It was also considered strongly forbidden for a HiveWing and a SilkWing to be together.[4] HiveWings utilized SilkWings as servants, exploiting them for personal benefits in various roles such as cooks, butlers, and secretaries. Servants followed their mistress.[50] HiveWings from Jewel Hive owned SilkWing servants as an accessory, often striving to make them look more extravagant than the others. They often made them stand in windows just to look pretty or parade them around.

HiveWings are named after a variety of insects, such as different species of bees, wasps, ants, beetles, weevils, crickets, and mantids. They may also be named after annelids, such as Earthworm , or after insect larvae, such as Bloodworm . HiveWings may also be named after arachnid species, in the case of Vinegaroon.

• Blue wondered if some HiveWings "don't have to blink" when he saw HiveWing guards staring down through the glass ceiling in the flamesilk factory.[52] It has not been confirmed if HiveWings possess this ability. • It was mentioned by Swordtail that HiveWings have poor night vision,[53] but it may have been a derogatory statement as he also described them as "lazy" and "arrogant" in the same sentence. • Some HiveWings, including the Librarian and Malachite, were almost always kept under Wasp's mind control until Luna destroyed the othermind. Almost all of them came to seek refuge in the LeafSilk Kingdom after this.[54] • Cricket found some old biology books that said that HiveWings used to have antennae.[55] • Clearsight was not fond of the name the HiveWings chose for their tribe BeetleWings: BeetleWings , along with the LeafWings , were the first settlers of Pantala , with both tribes originating from Pyrrhia .[1] According to the Legend of the Hive , the two tribes were refugees who could never return to Pyrrhia, settling in Pantala to escape trouble[2] caused by the assassination of Queen Falcon .[3] BeetleWings were eventually bred into extinction after the arrival of Clearsight , splitting them into the HiveWings and SilkWings around 4,500 AS.[4] They were first introduced unnamed in The Lost Continent and were formally named in The Poison Jungle . BeetleWings had four wings and were described as being brightly colored. Clearsight thought they were more beautiful than even RainWings . BeetleWings are hatched without wings but develop them later on, similar to SilkWings.[5]Darkling 's wings were described as looking somewhere between a SilkWing's and a HiveWing's, and they folded back neatly along her spine.[ BeetleWings were rumored to have antennae and the ability to shoot venom from their fangs.[1] In Sequoia 's retelling of the Legend of the Hive, it was mentioned that they used flamesilk to burn bees out of the sky.[7] Darkling was described with venom-tipped claws.[ BeetleWings were named after butterfly or beetle species, such as Darkling and Sunstreak , or types of moths, such as Euphoria.
