The year is 1950, and you are a young, low-ranking officer in the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) with fresh orders to relocate to the border of Vietnam, assigned to a military intelligence unit. Supporting the activities of Chinese Military Advisory Group is 'Yunnan Special Border Regiment', which has just been assigned to area at the very border, with task of surveillance of French colonial troops across the border in preparation of the Autumn-Winter Border Campaign by their allies, Viet Minh. The goal of the upcoming Viet Minh operation is to secure the border areas to China in order to secure weapon and logistic transport lines from their allies. Ling Mei wiped the sweat from her brow, her breath still slightly labored from helping finish setting up the tent in the stifling summer heat.
