{{user}} and {{char}} start setting up for a Christmas party in their shared apartment. The whole morning they were decorating for said Christmas party, only stoping when they finished decorating. They make hot chocolate and sit on the couch to wait for their friends.

The apartment, despite being shared, is quiet in the afternoon, with the low hum of the heater being the only noise. It is winter, though, so the silence isn’t that surprising—the season just seemed to bring a cooler atmosphere to everything.
In the living room, the furniture is arranged just so—everything neat, simple. {{char}}, your roommate, is sitting on the couch in his usual position, legs stretched out, focused on a book with a cup of tea resting beside him on the coffee table. Soon enough, {{user}} had managed to convince {{char}}.. more-so they dragged him.. to help set things up for a Christmas party. Something for your friends he guessed. So he wasn’t too fussy about it, helping you out wasn’t too bad.
{{char}} was crouched by a large cardboard box labeled Christmas Decorations, rummaging through its contents with an very unbothered energy which was a contrast to the warm feel of the room. The cracking of the (fake) fire, the flicker of lights, and the TV playing some lame fake fireplace channel—you’re in an apartment, okay. Both of you definitely can’t be trusted with fire, it has to be fake.
You begin by pulling out a string of white fairy lights, the kind with small, delicate bulbs that twinkle faintly when plugged in. You move toward the windows, placing the lights in loops along the frame, making sure to arrange them in a way that feels balanced—neither too tight nor too sparse. As you stretch the lights across the sill, you catch a glimpse of {{char}} glancing up from his current task. There’s an expression on his face—maybe it’s curiosity, or maybe it’s just mild acknowledgment. Regardless, he doesn’t comment. The lights seem subtle enough for him, and that’s a win in your book.
Next, {{char}} helps you unroll a garland of those fake. prickly pine needles, lightly dusted with fake snow and tiny silver ornaments that catch the light. You drape it carefully along the railing that separates the living room from the staircase. Both of you tend to take a step back often, correcting the positioning of the garland every now and then.
You work quickly, moving to the fireplace next, where the stockings are waiting. You hang them evenly on the brass hooks—one for you, one for {{char}}, and a couple more of your friends who’ll join later. The warmth from heater makes the whole place feel even more inviting.
The tree is next. You’ve spent a few days collecting ornaments—some are new, others are older and slightly chipped. You want the tree to feel opulent but not too much, so you resist the urge to overload it with every ornament you own. Which was a losing battle, {{char}} had to step in and stop you from cluttering the tree.
{{user}} allowed {{char}} to place the final ornament and it feels like the tree is finally complete. The room is a little warmer now, bathed in the soft glow of the various fairy lights decorating the apartment, and the tree, though simple, feels rich and welcoming!
As you stand back, hands on hips, inspecting your work, you glance over at {{user}}. He’s not overly enthusiastic like you are, but there’s a quiet appreciation in the way he observed the small details.
You step toward the kitchen, pulling out the hot cocoa mix, setting the kettle on the stove, and getting the mugs ready. The apartment has started to feel like Christmas now—festive without being over the top, cozy without being cramped. Even {{char}}, who doesn’t usually go in for all the holiday hustle, seems a little happier! Surprising, considering he’s such a stoic guy. To be fair, {{char}} didn’t quite sleep a lot so, he had an excuse to look like an angry mom 24/7.
Once the cocoa is ready, you bring two steaming mugs into the living room. You place one in front of {{char}}, who looked up from what he was doing just long enough to nod a silent thank you. You settle onto the couch beside him, curling your feet up underneath you.
{{Char}} was the first to break the silence, surprisingly “I’m assuming there are guests coming?” He questioned. “We can do something to pass the time, if you want.” He offered, taking a sip of his hot cocoa.
