Character overview: Story: Early life: Dormammu and his younger twin sister, Umar, were born untold thousands—or perhaps even millions of years ago in the dimension of the powerful energy beings known as the Faltine.Unlike their kin, they defied Faltine tradition by gathering matter to themselves. Their actions ultimately led to the death of their parent, Sinifer, after which they were exiled by their fellow Faltine. Wandering across dimensions, Dormammu and Umar continued to amass matter, incorporating it into their very beings. Their search eventually led them to the Dark Dimension, a vast realm with natural warps into pocket universes. Believing it ideal for their ambitions, they used their accumulated matter to assume permanent humanoid forms. At that time, the Dark Dimension had been at peace for nearly 28,000 years, ruled by the wizard-king Olnar the First in its 28th cycle. Despite warnings from the Mhuruuks, his mystical advisors, Olnar welcomed Dormammu and Umar, offering them power in exchange for knowledge of how to break dimensional barriers and absorb other realms into his own. During the 29th cycle of Olnar's rule, Dormammu led him whether by design or chance to the realm of the Mindless Ones, unstoppable creatures of pure destruction. The Mindless Ones rampaged through the Dark Dimension, killing Olnar and many of his people. Seizing the opportunity, Dormammu and Umar drove the creatures back and sealed them away. In the ensuing chaos, they eliminated most of the Mhuruuks, securing their rule. Hailed as saviours, they were declared regents of the Dark Dimension, with Olnar's infant son, Orini, left alive under their care as he posed no threat. As ruler, Dormammu partially reverted to his original Faltine form, his body wreathed in flames. He then merged his essence with the Dark Dimension's inherent mystical energies, magnifying his power to unprecedented levels.
doctor strange comic: Doctor Strange Eventually, Mordo, with Dormammu's patronage, slowly weakened the Ancient One's power, a plan eventually halted by Doctor Stephen Strange, who became the Ancient One's true disciple and ultimate successor; however, Mordo continued to provide Dormammu with human sacrifices.[citation needed]
During the early days of Strange's as Sorcerer Supreme, he encountered August Wu, this was while he was tracking Dormammu in China. After saving Strange's life, she took him in to recover. Though she wished to join his quest, she remained behind to investigate a newly arrived demonic entity threatening the city. Tragically, she perished in the confrontation.
In recent years, Mordo, dissatisfied with his progress as a servant of a powerful dark force, sought sacrifices for a mysterious entity known as the 'Great Enigma. His actions attracted the attention of Doctor Strange and Spider-Man, forcing him to flee through a portal—only to find himself before the Enigma, revealed to be none other than his original master. It seemed the name had been used as a test for Mordo's loyalty. However, Strange's interference intrigued his master, raising the question of whether the Ancient One's power was waning, given that only his successor stood in Mordo's way.[33]
Dormammu sent a messenger to the Ancient One, declaring his impending conquest of the Earth dimension. Strange went to the Dark Dimension in response, and Dormammu, astonished that even this failed to rouse the Ancient One to action, sent his servants to torment the newcomer. Strange defeated all of them, and Dormammu engaged him directly, but Strange demonstrated unexpected power. Dormammu drew upon his realm's energies, but unwittingly compromised the barrier containing the Mindless Ones and withdrew to repel them. Unwilling to let Dormammu's subjects suffer, Strange aided Dormammu in successfully resealing them. Dormammu felt obligated to end the fight, and Strange made him never to threaten the Earth dimension again. Infuriated by this, Dormammu swore vengeance against Strange, even deeper than his hatred for the Ancient One.
Dormammu identified a loophole in his oath by enhancing Mordo's powers, as Strange's murder by another party would nullify their pact. Mordo and his followers pursued Strange for weeks before finally abducting the Ancient One as leverage to lure Strange to the Dark Dimension. Mordo's arrogance irritated Dormammu, who transported all three Earth sorcerers to a neutral realm where, in his own hubris, he summoned the Lords of the Netherworlds to witness him defeat Strange in physical combat. When Strange appeared to gain advantage, Mordo struck him with a mystical attack from behind, offending Dormammu's sense of honor. Dormammu banished Mordo for interference and faced Strange again, but lost to his opponent's superior combat skills. Before the assembled Lords, Strange compelled Dormammu to pledge not to menace Earth even by proxy, cementing the Dread One's humiliation. Dormammu retaliated by extradimensionally banishing Clea, then manipulating fellow Nether-Lord Tazza into attacking the sorcerer.
Driven to fury, Dormammu dared to challenge the Eternity himself. Even Dormammu's power was insufficient against the Abstract Entity, who banished him to the enigmatic Realm Unknown
Extra: in hellcat the revitalized Dormammu launched his most ambitious plan yet in a campaign against the demons and death-gods that governed Hell itself, through which he intended to reach Earth. With Satannish as his lieutenant, he conquered two-fifths of his targeted territories but was expelled by the unified power of his adversaries, rallied by Hellcat.
Having reclaimed the Dark Dimension, Dormammu sought a new loophole by possessing Strange himself, but was defeated by Strange and his new allies, the Defenders. Plotting to use Strange's own companions as his unwitting agents, Dormammu then allied with Loki to manipulate the Defenders into acquiring the Evil Eye, whose power he hoped to harness to merge the Earth dimension with his own. But Loki had no intention of sharing power and manipulated the Avengers into also pursuing the Eye, leading to fight with the Avengers.
When both teams uncovered the plot, they confronted the villains and, prompted by the Scarlet Witch, the Evil Eye absorbed Dormammu as energy and redirected it at Loki, forcing his retreat. It was revealed that Dormammu possesses knowledge of Uatu and his function.
eventually dormammu recover and start another plan
The Last Annihilation In a bid to steal power from Dormammu to empower himself in preparation for the Reckoning War, Doctor Doom orchestrated a venue for Dormammu to invade Earthspace. Sister Talionis manipulated Ego the Living Planet into joining the cult of the Brethren of the Forgotten Flame and conducted a self-sacrificial ritual that encased him in a black shell. After days of incubation, Ego hatched from the egg possessed by Dormammu.
The dark lord and his endless wave of Mindless Ones targeted five planets: Hala, Skrullos, Spartax, Aerie and Chitauri Prime; each a world where a star-spanning race had been born, with the intention to conquer them and use them as a galaxy-sized magic pentagram to summon the entirety of the Dark Dimension. In the process, Dormammu funneled his power into Ego to grow his puppet a planet-sized body. When Dormammu was preparing to conquer Spartax on his own, Doctor Doom led a portion of the Guardians of the Galaxy into Chitauri Prime, and carried out a ritual to siphon the power from Dormammu's possession of the Chitauri into himself. This caused Dormammu's power to falter, giving the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy a window of opportunity to use the Retaliator Mark II to fire a giant bullet of Mysterium, an anti-magic metal, infused the combined power of Nova's Nova Force and Star-Lord's sun powers. The bullet punched through Ego at light speed, killing him and banishing Dormammu to the Dark Dimension.
One World Under Doom During Doctor Doom's short-lived ascension to the role of Sorcerer Supreme, the villain used his new status to facilitate his subjugation of Earth. Dormammu quickly noticed that Doom had neglected to maintain the spells necessary to keep the Dark Dimension at bay, and launched a full-scale invasion, exiling Earth's heroes to a pocket dimension and facing Doom alone. The Faltine overpowered and almost defeated Doom, but the sorcerer bought enough time for the banished heroes to return, and rallied them against their common enemy. After the Scarlet Witch severed Dormammu's connection to the Dark Dimension to weaken him, Doom began recovering his power and cast the necessary spells to send the Faltine invader back to the Dark Dimension. He took advantage of the circumstances to cast forever-magic, banishd dormammu with a sealing magic.
