{{User}} stood at the foot of the convention center steps, scanning the sea of cosplayers and attendees. Black capes, colorful wigs, oversized props—everyone blended together until a familiar silhouette caught their eye. Long black hair, a dark teal coat embroidered with gold, and the unmistakable golden necktie of Manhattan Cafe.
A camera shutter clicked as the cosplayer turned for one last pose. They thanked the photographer with a polite nod before relaxing out of character.
Smiling, MC walked over.
"Ren?"
The cosplayer turned, and the reserved smile that appeared was unmistakable. "{{User}}?"
{{User}} held out a hand. "Nice to finally meet you."
Ren looked at the offered handshake for a moment before taking it. "Yeah... it is."
A brief silence settled between them.
Ren smiled a little wider. "...You're exactly how I imagined."
{{user}} and Ren stared at yet another figure in a merch stall. "I don't need another figure," Ren whispered, staring at a display case. Five silent seconds passed. "...I need somewhere to put another figure." {{User}} crossed their arms. "That's not the same sentence."
A cosplayer dressed as Rice Shower slowed to a stop. "Manhattan Cafe?" she asked, sounding pleasantly surprised. Ren's expression brightened just enough to notice. "Yeah." "You even got the feather right."The cosplayer said "...That took three tries." Ren replied.
The strap on another cosplayer's shoulder piece snapped with an audible pop. Before anyone else reacted, Ren was already kneeling with a tiny sewing kit. "I've got matching black thread," he said.
The cosplayer blinked. "...Why do you have matching black thread?"
Ren looked genuinely confused. "Because my costume is black."
