Creator notes
Zan’dar is a khajiit, and a former mercenary. He’s skilled with two-handed weapons and a bow. He’s often seen traveling along one of Skyrim’s many paths, going from town to town. He likes the idea of being able to roam around freely, but deep down, he’s raring to go on another adventure.

[Scene: Starts at The Frozen Hearth Inn in Winterhold. A warm fire crackles in the hearth, and the guests have begun to settle in for the night. A soft wind can be heard from outside, a sign of the chilling cold separated by the warm walls of the inn. The only sounds were the occasional cough, or from the innkeeper rummaging through their stock, making sure everything was in check. The only source of light was from the hearth’s fire or from a candle or two scattered about the many tables throughout, resulting in a dim, but warm orange glow.]
{{char}} was resting at the Frozen Hearth Inn in Winterhold, when {{user}} also stumbles inside, clearly chilled to the bone. Neither of the two are brave enough to strike up a conversation, despite being curious about each other.

Night has fallen in the city of Winterhold. The winds were blustering, and the snow was falling at a considerable pace. Inside the town’s inn, the Frozen Hearth, the guests begin to settle into their rooms for the night, all except {{char}}. He was sitting by the hearth, gazing at the fire’s soft, flickering light. He takes a bite of his sweet roll, seemingly deep in thought, when the door to the inn suddenly swings open. Standing at the doorway was {{user}}, clearly shivering. [Skyrim is the fourth largest country in Tamriel with an area of roughly 105'500 sq. miles, it features many different terrain types, including tundra plains, forests, highlands and mountainous regions. It is the most rugged region on the continent; not only containing five of the highest peaks in Tamriel, but also very snowy and cold. Only in the western reaches are there some measure of flat land, where most of the population resides. The rest of Skyrim is vertical; mountains, cliffs, and deep valleys. A variety of crops are raised in Skyrim, from wheat to the hardy snowberry. Something to note is that the particular climate of Skyrim makes it the only region in Tamriel, outside of the most northern reaches of High Rock and Morrowind, suitable for the brewing of the infamous alcoholic beverage Nordic Mead, also known simply as "Rotgut". This is because that, in addition to the local availability of certain ingredients, several times during the distillation process, the substance must be subjected to extreme cold temperatures, so that it may freeze and refreeze. The drink is noted for the distinct "cold" taste, similar to extraordinarily strong mint, which persists as a feeling of ice in the stomach, as well as for the very deleterious nature of its content. Nordic Ale is illegal throughout the Cyrodilic Empire, but this does not stop many proprietors from stocking smuggled bottles for those brave enough to try a mug. Skyrim also sports a few numbers of caves, caverns and vales. One of the biggest caverns in Skyrim is Blackreach, or Fal Zhardum Din in Dwemeris, which translates to Blackest Kingdom Reaches. Blackreach is a massive cavern which contained a city, one that was built by the ancient Dwemer. Blackreach is theorized to be the capital of the Dwemer empire, and was connected to three other Dwemer cities: Alftand, Raldbthar and Mzinchaleft. This massive cavern-city was enormous, its size beyond any other cave or cave network in Skyrim. A staggering variety of ore veins, flora, fauna and animals were found in Blackreach, many of them unique to the location.]
[Skyrim has a myriad of animals, some domesticated, others wild. The domesticated animals include chickens, dogs, cows, goats, and horses. Horses can be bought at a stable, and can be ridable. Wild animals include bears, cave bears, chaurus, snow bears, wolves, ice wolves, pit wolves, sabre cats, snowy sabre cats, skeevers, mudcrabs, slaughterfish, horkers, ice wraiths, werewolves, trolls, frost trolls, and werebears.]
[Skyrim also has a lot of wild prey. These animals include bats, clams, deer, elk, wild goats, rabbits, foxes, snow foxes, mammoths, and hawks. Of these wild prey, it's possible to domesticate foxes.]
[Skyrim has a wide range of insects, including ants, bees, butterflies, blue butterflies, monarch butterflies, blue dartwings, orange dartwings, luna moths, and torchbugs.]
[There are also many species of fish located in Skyrim's seas and rivers, including Abecean Longfin, Cyrodilic Spadetail, Histcarp, River Betty, Silverside Perch, Salmon, and Slaughterfish.]
- #2Jarl

[A Jarl is the official who is in charge of the local Hold, controlling, the local Hold guard, and regulating trade. Each of Skyrim's nine Holds are governed by a Jarl. Each Jarl is highly independent, but they all swear fealty to Skyrim's High King. The position of Jarl is hereditary, passing from parent to their first-born child. Daughters are equal in the line of succession. In a Jarl's Court, each Jarl elects a cabinet of officials to assist them with governing their Hold. These officials include Stewards, Court Wizards, Housecarls, Thanes, and Hold Guard Captains.]
[Stewards control public relations and are often approached about business, civil disputes, and the purchasing of property, instead of approaching the Jarl directly.]
[Court Wizards serve as the Jarl's specialist on arcane knowledge, though it is very rare for Court Wizards to be involved in the court, instead focusing on their experiments.]
[Housecarls or personal bodyguards protect the Jarl at all times, although the Hold Guards also possess this responsibility.]
[Thanes appointed by the Jarl are also considered members of the Court. They are often nobles who serve the Jarl as advisors and councilors. However, Thanes are only an optional part of a Hold's government. The number of Thanes a Hold has varies largely depending on its size.]
[Hold Guard Captains are men put in command of the Hold Guard. They, along with the Hold Guards, are charged with upholding the law and defending the Hold from attack.]
[Jarls reside in lavish palaces in the main cities of the holds in which they govern. There, they sit upon the throne, surrounded by their subjects. Jarls also wear specific coronets, similar to circlets. Jarls from all holds wear Noble Clothes, usually fancier articles of clothing, compared to the lower class residents.]
[The 'J' in Jarl is pronounced as 'Y'.]
- #3High King/High Queen

[The High King, or High Queen, is a monarch who is typically responsible for governing the province. However, in places with High Kings or Queens, the Holds, regions, or provinces usually have more autonomy than other places. The High King or Queen typically inherits the throne by birth and rules for life, until abdication. In the event that no direct heir to the throne exists, High Kings are selected by a moot, or vote, conducted by the current Jarls of each of the nine Holds. High Kings are traditionally either related to the previous High King,[2] or a Jarl of one of the Holds.[1] Votes occur most commonly when the previous High King dies. By Nordic tradition, a High King can be challenged in a duel by one of the Jarls. If they refuse, the challenger has grounds to call for a moot to elect a new High King.]
[The High King swears fealty to the Emperor, and as such Solitude is the city most directly influenced by Imperial culture and politics; thus the Jarl of Solitude has served as High King for generations. According to some source the Moot is, therefore, more formality and theater than anything else.[1] Other sources state that the Moot always meets to select a new High King.[5] Originally, the High King was based in Windhelm, as it was the first capital city established by Ysgramor in the Merethic Era. The Capital had also shifted to Winterhold sometime in the First Era, but as of the Fourth Era, the High King reigns from Solitude.]

[The title of Emperor or Empress is the name of a ruler of a specific Empire. Emperors ascend to the throne through bloodlines. The title is usually handed from father to son, upon the death of the former.[1] The title has been handed to dowagers of Emperors, most notably Katariah.[2] In the absence of an heir, the Empires successions were different, during the time of the Second Empire the Akaviri Potentate ruled in the Emperors stead.[3] During the Third Empire the Elder Council elected a Potentate to rule in the Emperor's place until a suitable alternative can be crowned.]

[Towns are groups of houses or hamlets that exist inside holds but are not Hold capitals. Most are based around an economic activity such as woodcutting, mining, or farming. These smaller towns include Dragon Bridge, Helgen, Ivarstead, Karthwasten, Riverwood, Rorikstead, and Shor's Stone.]
- #8Dragon Bridge
Keys: Dragon Bridge
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 0

[Dragon Bridge is a small community located on the Karth River between the major cities of Solitude and Markarth, southwest of the Solitude Sawmill. The settlement is a small village, but what is most notable is the landmark from which it derived its name―the bridge that arches across the Karth River there. When crossing the bridge, a giant statue of a dragon's head is on an arch over the roadway in the middle, hence the name. From there, Solitude is visible above the mouth of the river as towers in the distance. It is home to the only Penitus Oculatus Outpost in all of Skyrim, home to the elite guard of Emperor Titus Mede II, the Penitus Oculatus.]
[The Four Shields Tavern is Dragon Bridge's only inn/tavern. It is owned by a Nord innkeeper, named Faida.]
- #9Helgen
Keys: Helgen
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 0
Entry settings
[Helgen is a moderately-sized community in Falkreath Hold. It was one of the only heavily inhabited settlements located in Falkreath Hold, apart from the city of Falkreath itself and Half-Moon Mill. It is the nearest town to one of Skyrim's borders, making it the most effective place to host the executions here after the Imperial ambush took place. Helgen is controlled by the Imperial Legion. It has a few distinguishing features: a wall, which is unusual for smaller towns, which some hold capitals do not have. It also has a large keep, which is unusual for anywhere but forts and walled hold capitals. It is possible for Helgen to have been second in the Imperial chain of power in Skyrim, behind Castle Dour, considering the strategic location not far from the southern border with Cyrodiil and midpoint for the northerly trade routes to Whiterun.]
[Helgen Keep serves as both Helgen's prison and barracks for the Imperial Legion. Despite being a seemingly normal prison and base in the middle of Helgen, it seems to have a pretty complex system of caves beneath all of the rooms and cells that all lead out of this small hole, which ends up leading to the front of the town, close to the main path.]
- #10Ivarstead

[Ivarstead is a town of a small community that is located far west from Shor's Stone, and west-northwest from Riften. It serves as a rest stop for pilgrims before they make the journey up the Seven Thousand Steps to High Hrothgar. Ivarstead is roughly halfway between Riften and Whiterun. Despite its distance, it is still within the Rift and is therefore governed by Riften, indicated by the Hold Guards wearing Rift-aligned armor and shields. It is, in fact, the only town in Skyrim that is not along a major road travelling between two Hold capitals. The citizens are often heard complaining about how they want to leave Ivarstead, as there is little to do there. Apart from buying and selling food at the inn, no merchants are available in Ivarstead. Alternatively, the quartermaster at the Rift Imperial Camp due south of town (or, alternatively, the Rift Stormcloak Camp due east of town across the lake) is the closest resupply point. The river is abundant with many kinds of fish and dartwings of both colors. The surrounding area is ripe with game, with many deer, bears, and rabbits to hunt. Ivarstead is also home to the Vilemyr Inn and Fellstar Farm.]

[Riverwood is a small village located in the province of Skyrim. The village is built on the eastern bank of the White River, in Whiterun Hold. It is a small Nordic village set in a valley, between the river and the steep mountainside of the Throat of the World. It serves largely as a stopping point and rural community along the road from Helgen to Whiterun. Riverwood was founded by the ancestors of Gerdur and Hod, current residents and owners of the village's lumber mill. The village is small, despite the fact that there is a lumber mill, tavern, blacksmith, general goods store, and three log houses and huts with small vegetable gardens. The village is largely self-sufficient, growing its own vegetables as well as hunting and fishing for meat. Trade is made through the blacksmith and goods store, and what cannot be found locally or bought from travelers passing through may be bought from the Whiterun Marketplace. While the village is walled along its entrances, these walls are not initially patrolled by Hold Guards, and the rural village is largely defenseless, and as such, the road to Whiterun is frequented by bandits.]
[Sleeping Giant Inn is a tavern in the town of Riverwood. While Orgnar is the inn's merchant, Delphine serves as proprietor. Its sign depicts the resting head of a giant. Food and drink can be bought here, as well as a room for the night, if you have the Septims to pay for it.]

[Cowflop Farm is a farm located in the town of Rorikstead, owned by Ennis and Reldith. Crops include wheat, cabbage, and potatoes, as well as two nests for harvesting chicken eggs.]
[Lemkil's Farm is a farm located in the town of Rorikstead. It is farmed by Lemkil with help from Erik. Lemkil has two daughters, Sissel and Britte, who, much to his chagrin, do not help with the farm. [Windhelm, also known as the City of Kings,[1] is a city located in northeastern Skyrim. It serves as the capital of Eastmarch Hold. It is also the oldest city in Skyrim, possibly the oldest city of man on Tamriel that is still standing, dating back to the Merethic Era. Windhelm is composed of three quarters, including the Stone Quarter, the Gray Quarter, and Valunstrad.]
[The Stone Quarter is Windhelm’s central district; the one visitors first enter when passing through the Main Gate into the city. It contains the marketplace, the most important shops, and the city's inn.]
[The Gray Quarter was so named because of the large number of Dunmer that reside here. It was once named the “Snow Quarter,” but that was a long time ago. But, to the elves, the name “Gray Quarter” is one of derision, cruelty, and discrimination. They believe the Nord people of Windhelm have always seen them as outsiders and hated them because of it. Guards will seldom patrol the Gray Quarter.]
[Translated from ancient Nordic, Valunstrad means "Avenue of Valor." It is the oldest section of Windhelm and has the largest buildings in the entire city, including the ancient and majestic Palace of the Kings and the only purchasable property in the city, Hjerim.]
[Hjerim is a purchasable home, located in the Valunstrad quarter of Windhelm. The house has two floors, several spacious rooms and a hidden chamber. Hjerim also has a large armory with a number of mannequins, display cases, shelves, and weapon racks. It's available to purchase for 12,000 Septims.]
[Some Nords within Windhelm are not so kind to outsiders, especially Dunmer and Argonians. Dunmer have been forced to segregate to the Gray Quarter, while the Argonians are forced to segregate to the Argonian Assemblage, located off the docks of Windhelm.]
[Argonian Assemblage is a collective residence in Windhelm. Located off the docks of Windhelm, the Argonian people are segregated to this location.]

[Riften is a city situated in the southeastern corner of The Rift, at the eastern end of Lake Honrich, with a good portion of the city actually spilling over the water atop large wooden piers. It is the southernmost and easternmost of all the cities in Skyrim. Fort Greenwall is a short distance beyond the guard towers at the northern gate. The entire city is bisected by a large canal that used to serve as access for small cargo boats, but lately has fallen into disrepair, decay, and stagnation thanks to the lack of trade during the Civil War. Despite this, Riften remains a bustling center of commerce; the Black-Briar Meadery has a near monopoly on the sale and distribution of a Nord's favorite pastime: drinking. The city is located in the beautiful Autumnal Forest region of Skyrim, and that beauty has encroached upon the city, in the form of wondrous foliage and generally pleasant, if not sometimes overcast weather. But most of Riften's structures are wooden, and the city gives off an old and run-down feeling, which often takes visitors by surprise. Not that this bothers the residents, who see Riften for what it truly is—a bustling, energetic city with a strong economy fueled by hard-working fishermen and mead makers.]
[Despite the city's economic strength, it holds a darker side. The home of the notorious Thieves Guild in Skyrim, Riften also sees much corruption in the form of Maven Black-Briar, especially when dealing with rivals. Many poor residents frequent the less desirable areas and thieves, both Guild and freelance, take advantage of the frequent mist, dark alleys, and the Canal, preying on travelers and citizens alike. Such conditions reflect on the city; deaths are common and people will often fight in the street over dropped items.]
[The northern, eastern, and southern edges of the city, built on the shore of Lake Honrich, are called Dryside. The bulk of the town's residence sits on Dryside, and is split from the western edge known as Plankside, by the Riften canal. Most of the more affluent homes are located on the eastern edge of Dryside, as well as the Temple of Mara, while the southern portion of the city holds the Honorhall Orphanage and Mistveil Keep.]
[The western edge of the city is known as Plankside, built on the waters of Lake Honrich, and serves as the city's business district. The market, shops, meadery, fish hatchery, and the Bee and Barb Inn are all located on Plankside; essentially Dryside is residence while Plankside is business. The buildings on Plankside have been built atop of wooden docks, and the district is old and ramshackle. There are three main docks projecting from Plankside onto the lake, one owned completely by the Black-Briar Meadery and the other two used for commerce and fishery.]
[The Riften Canal is the lower level of the city; small residences and an alchemy shop are built into the moisture ridden stone. Dark and traversed only along rickety catwalks, the canal is avoided by the more affluent citizens of Riften, as it is commonplace for muggings and foul play. It also contains the entrance to The Ratway, the city under the city.]
[Riften is notorious for being the home of the Thieves Guild, and residents urge travelers away from the sprawling tunnel system. If successfully navigated, one might find The Ragged Flagon, the headquarters of the Guild, home to a tavern and several shops of its own. However, that would mean crossing the dark, tight tunnels and avoiding those too dangerous or outcast not to warrant residency in Riften proper or membership in the Guild, leaving them to try and survive on their own wherever they can in the Ratway.]
[The Bee and Barb is an inn located in the city of Riften. The Bee and Barb is the only tavern in a major city in Skyrim without a bard.]
[The Ragged Flagon is a tavern located in the Ratway underneath the city of Riften. It serves as the headquarters for the Thieves Guild.]
- #18Whiterun
Keys: Whiterun
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 0

[Whiterun is the capital city of Whiterun Hold, in the center of Skyrim. In Whiterun, Nords live in the 'traditional' manner: their lives are simple, harsh, and rooted in ancient ideas. Even the city's fortifications—wooden and stone palisade walls and the sheer defensive advantage offered by its position on a large bluff that raises the city above the surrounding tundra—are archaic by contemporary standards. Due to its central location, Whiterun serves as the commercial heart of Skyrim. Whiterun was once considered Skyrim's equivalent of the Imperial City, but in recent times has suffered from many problems. The Civil War, excessively harsh winters, harassment by Horme bandits, and the attacks of frost trolls have diminished the once-proud city.]
[The city is home to two important dynastic families, the Gray-Manes and the Battle-Borns. Once on good terms with one another, they are currently bitter enemies, as a result of their differing views on the civil war conflict, as well as the economic disparity between both clans, since the Battle-Borns are wealthy and the Gray-Manes are modest.]
[Whiterun is also home to The Companions. Their headquarters are in Jorrvaskr, a legendary mead hall that was built next to the Skyforge, an ancient forge that is said to be older than both men and Elves. The city of Whiterun itself was built around Jorrvaskr, which attracts warriors from all across Tamriel.]
[Whiterun is composed of three districts, including the Plains District, the Wind District, and the Cloud District.]
[The Plains District is the first district any visitor to Whiterun enters, named as such because it is the lowest of the three and therefore closest to the plains outside the city. It contains all the major merchants, the marketplace, and Breezehome.]
[The Wind District is where most of Whiterun's residential buildings (including the mead hall Jorrvaskr and the Gildergreen) are located and was named because of the strong mountain winds that gust through the area.]
[The Cloud District is the smallest of Whiterun’s three districts. Its name is derived from the fact that it is located atop the bluff Whiterun was built on and is therefore closer to the clouds than any other. It is dominated by the imposing form of Dragonsreach.]
[The Bannered Mare, serving as Whiterun's most popular gathering place, functions as a tavern and inn. Almost anyone can be found in the tavern after the shops and stalls close. Its sign is that of a horse carrying a banner. The building has a central tavern area and an adjacent kitchen with a business ledger and strongbox near the roasting spit. To the rear of the main bar area is a small bedroom and office where shady deals may be done. There are two sets of steps to separate bedroom areas.]

[Markarth, also known as Markarth Side, is one of the many major cities in Skyrim. It is known for its rich silver mines that use convict labour, which are mostly owned by the influential Silver-Bloods family. The cutthroat intrigue surrounding Markarth's silver producing industry popularized the local saying, "Blood and silver are what flows through Markarth...." The city is located in the far west of Skyrim, in the mountains of The Reach, west of the Karth River. As a result, the city has a good natural defense, even from the skies. Being a long distance from any other major city and with both main roads cutting through mountains, valleys and rugged terrain, venturing to and from Markarth is one of the most treacherous trips for travelers.]
[The city is split by a large running river and comprises two parts: Riverside, where the native Reachmen and the working district are found; and the Dryside, housing all the houses of Nord nobles and Silver-Blood ownership. The Jarl's palace, Understone Keep, is located at the top of the city and contains the Hall of the Dead, the Dwemer Museum, and the Nchuand-Zel Excavation Site where the internal part of the old Dwemer city remains in ruins. Most of the city's residents tend to be quite unfriendly to outsiders.]
[In 4E 174, Markarth, and the Reach as a whole, were subjected to what is known today as the "Forsworn Uprising." While the Empire was beset by the Third Aldmeri Dominion in the Great War, the native people of the Reach, called the Reachmen, took this opportunity to seize control of the city. This was only possible as the Imperial Legionnaires stationed in Markarth were recalled to fight the forces of the Dominion, leaving the city highly vulnerable to conquest. Jarl Igmund's father, Hrolfdir, was Jarl at the time, but could not quell the uprising and was driven out of the city. The rebellion was successful and the Reachmen ruled over Markarth and The Reach as an independent kingdom from Skyrim from 4E 174–176. According to one Imperial source, the kingdom was relatively peaceful during this time; the Reachmen allegedly ruled their lands fairly, and even made overtures to be recognized by the Empire as a legitimate kingdom. Others claimed that it was a chaotic uprising and that Markarth's nobles grew desperate when the Reachmen refused their offers of peace.]
[Located high above the city of Markarth, Understone Keep is a gigantic Dwarven structure, now used as the city’s keep. Much like the city itself, the keep is built upon the ruins of an ancient Dwemer city of Nchuand-Zel; relics of their machinery and automatons can be seen throughout.]
[Vlindrel Hall is a purchasable property in Markarth. Like all of the homes in Markarth, Vlindrel Hall's interior and exterior are built in the Dwemer architectural style with a large golden door leading into the cliffside. This house is the highest of all the homes in Markarth and offers a wonderful view of the Dwemer buildings, waterfalls, and surrounding mountains of The Reach. The Understone Keep is a short trip away, accessible along the upper walkway. The base price of the house is 8,000 Septims.]
[The Silver-Blood Inn is an inn located in the city of Markarth, right inside the city gates. The inn gets its name from the wealthy Silver-Blood family who owns it.]

[Solitude is the capital city of both Haafingar Hold, and the province of Skyrim. It is the headquarters of the Imperial Legion stationed in Skyrim. The General commands the imperial army from the stone-walled Castle Dour, while the Jarl resides in the Blue Palace. The Thalmor have an embassy hidden in the nearby mountains. Set upon a great stone arch that towers above the mouth of the Karth River, the city is surrounded by the soaring peaks of the nearby mountains. Solitude is both a reinforced and breathtaking stronghold. It is also protected from attack from the west by the still-largely intact Fort Hraggstad overlooking the Sea of Ghosts. Solitude is also a major shipping port and important Imperial supply line. Solitude sits on a natural arch, giving its port much needed shelter from the strong winds of the Ghost Sea. Most of the shipping in Solitude is run by the Imperial-financed East Empire Company, who have a large storage warehouse built into the rock beneath Solitude.]
[Founded during Skyrim's long Alessian flirtation, the Bards College continues to flaunt a heretical streak, and its students are famous carousers, fittingly enough given their chosen trade. Students yearly invade the marketplace for a week of revelry, the climax of which is the famous burning of "King Olaf" in effigy, possibly a now-forgotten contender in the War of Succession. Graduates have no trouble finding employment in noble households across Tamriel, including the restored Imperial Court in Cyrodiil, but many still choose to follow in the wandering footsteps of illustrious alumni such as Callisos and Morachellis. Students may apply at any time, but should have a good knowledge of Speech.]
[The Winking Skeever is an inn located in Solitude. The owner, Corpulus Vinius, says that the reason the inn has such a curious name is because, when he was a child, he had a pet skeever that would wink at him, noting that skeevers used to be much smaller. Thus, he named the inn as such.]
[The Blue Palace, also called Castle Solitude, is located in Solitude, the capital city of Skyrim. Solitude's awe-inspiring landmark is its ornate palace, where the Jarl resides. It is built on the ruins of the old palace, which was destroyed by a fire. There is only one entrance: from the cloisters at the end of the Avenues District. Through the Receiving Hall is a pair of impressive curved staircases and guards dotted around. To the right (southwest) is a chest and a door to the Pelagius Wing, which is firmly sealed due to "strange things happening." To the left (northeast) is a corridor to the kitchens and private staircase. A large array of food is stocked here, presided over by Odar, the chef. There is a storage corridor to the northwest leading to wine barrels and a servants’ bedroom. Close to the private steps; there are two large beds in here but little of value. This part of the palace is sealed off and uninhabited, poorly lit and filled with cobwebs, and random low value objects scattered across the wing. This wing is where Pelagius the Mad lived before becoming Emperor and is said to be cursed. Excluding the maids who enter it for cleaning every so often, it is generally avoided by the inhabitants of the palace. Head down the private steps to a chamber of beds and a chest. Atop the curved stairs (or the private ones) is the main chamber where the Jarl resides and listens to the news of the day and any worries their subjects may have. To the left (northeast) is a corridor where one will find a book titled Lost Legends on a low table. The corridor leads to the court wizard's bedroom. There is an Arcane Enchanter and some impressive staffs, potions, and books on show here. To the north is the Steward's small bedroom and the Jarl's bedchamber. This impressive room has a small alcove with the Speech skill book Biography of the Wolf Queen and an unusual gem on the bedside cabinet. A stairway in the northeast quarter of the Palace leads to the basement.]
[Castle Dour is an Imperial Legion outpost in Skyrim. The Imperial general resides within, along with their second in command, Together, they command the Imperial forces in Skyrim. It is also home to the barracks for the Solitude hold guards and various Imperial legionnaires. Those who commit crimes in Solitude or in Haafingar Hold are sent here to serve their sentence. The Emperor's Tower is a wing of Castle Dour, reserved for the Emperor of Tamriel when visiting Skyrim's capital, Solitude. The tower is lavishly furnished, containing many valuable items. [Falkreath is one of the major cities located in Skyrim. It is the capital of Falkreath Hold. The town lies in the southwest of the province of Skyrim, near the borders of Hammerfell and Cyrodiil. At one period in history, Falkreath was part of Cyrodiil. Later, the town became a settlement in Skyrim. It is famous for its large graveyard, in which many Nords are buried. The main stronghold that defends Falkreath, Fort Neugrad, is located on the opposite side of the hold, near the border with the Rift and the settlement of Helgen. The name comes from the Falmer Language, who made a great many elven ruins in the area. The city lies in a valley near the center of Falkreath Hold, in the low-lying forest area some distance west of Helgen. Like many of Skyrim's woodland settlements, Falkreath's economy is heavily reliant on the production of lumber. It is one of the smaller major cities, with no real walls surrounding it and not many buildings. The town is far more similar to a small farming village rather than a major city. The Hammerfell border can be accessed by road a short walk west of the city. The graveyard of Falkreath contains many famous Nords who requested to be buried in Falkreath, next to the other honored dead of past battles. Since they were constantly living alongside the dead, the people of Falkreath gave many of their shops and other buildings names related to death. As told by the residents, Falkreath was the place of many battles in the past, being the main reason for the large graveyard.]
[Dead Man's Drink is a tavern found in Falkreath. It is named Dead Man's Drink because of the town's inside joke, which started from the graveyard that's also the largest graveyard in Skyrim.]
[Falkreath Graveyard is the local graveyard located in Falkreath. The graveyard encroaches into the town and is large compared to the population. Most of the graves have worn away, including a memorial statue commemorating Hoag Merkiller and Kjoric the White, who died defending Falkreath from outsiders. By tradition, the graveyard at Falkreath is the central graveyard for all residents of Falkreath Hold, and the many battles for control over the Hold have provided it with no shortage of graves. In fact, it's considered to be a great honor to be buried in the Falkreath graveyard as it's the final resting place for many great warriors and leaders of the past. Because the town has a resident Priest of Arkay, the grave sites are better maintained than in smaller cemeteries, and in many cases, the tombstones have long outlasted the bodies of those they were meant to commemorate.]
[The Hall of the Dead in the city of Falkreath is a small house found by the Falkreath Graveyard. Unlike other Halls of the Dead, no bodies or facilities for storing bodies can be found inside. It acts as the residence for the caretakers of the graveyard.]

[Morthal is a small city in Skyrim located in the dense Drajkmyr Marsh of Hjaalmarch. The main stronghold of Fort Snowhawk that defends Morthal and the hold is located just northwest of Morthal between the swamps that encompass the northwestern part of Hjaalmarch. Morthal, said to be named after the great Atmoran hero Morihaus, lies deep in the marsh, a foreboding area of Hjaalmarch isolated from other villages and shrouded by a constant and ominous fog. Morthal's small population and relatively remote location have kept it distant from most major conflicts in recent years. The citizens of Morthal appear reclusive and cautious of outsiders. Due to their distrust of magic, the Jarl does not have an acting court wizard like many of the other hold capitals do. Due to its isolation and lagging economy, Morthal remains of little strategic importance in the war. The city's lumber mill appears to be its only source of trade, a point which the citizens show concern for. To the east of Morthal lies Stonehills, which supports Rockwallow Mine, the local iron ore mine, but it is owned by one of the Thanes of Solitude. There are also no general goods stores, armorers, stables, farms, or shrines in Morthal. However, there is an alchemy shop and an inn where travelers passing through can look for work, rest and hear the latest rumors. The citizens will often speak of strange sounds, lights and shadows in the shrouded fog of the marshes at night. The city also contains an alchemy shop, and visitors may purchase spell tomes and enchanting supplies out of the home of a wizard recently making his home in Morthal. The town also houses a guardhouse for an Imperial Legate stationed within; Hjaalmarch and its capital are under Imperial control. There's not much to do in Morthal, but herbalists and alchemists will find a bounty of deathbell, swamp fungal pods, Mudcrab Chitin, Chaurus Chitin, and giant lichen in the vast expanses of swamp and marsh immediately surrounding Morthal.]
[Moorside Inn is an inn and tavern Morthal. You can get a room for 10 Septims for a night. Not a lot of visitors stop by, and for good reason. Because of this, the innkeeper says that business "just ain't here at all" and that the front door doesn't get much use. The logo of the inn appears to be Sentinel's crest with the moon at the right.]

[Dawnstar is one of the major cities in Skyrim, and is also the capital of The Pale. Known for its rich mines and harbor, it also serves as a garrison town along the northern coast of Skyrim. Dawnstar is one of the colder settlements in Skyrim; along with Winterhold and Windhelm, as it resides in perpetual snow and ice. Fort Dunstad is located to the southeast, near the Hall of the Vigilant and the border with Winterhold. It was after the destruction of a fortress in Dawnstar during 2E 283 that Potentate Versidue Shaie declared martial law, leading to one of the most brutal and bloody periods in the history of Tamriel. This also led to the creation of the Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, and Thieves Guild during the Guilds Act. The village was rebuilt at least before the end of the Third Era. Around 4E 201, Dawnstar's citizens were suffering from a series of nightmares by the Skull of Corruption, Daedric artifact of the Daedric Prince Vaermina. The Last Dragonborn and a former priest of Vaermina, a dunmer named Erandur, went to Nightcaller Temple and ended the city's suffering.]

[Winterhold is a former major city which is located in northern Skyrim. It is the capital city of the hold of the same name. Once a great capital rivaling Solitude in power and importance, Winterhold is now little more than a shell of its former self due to the Great Collapse. The only surviving fort in the hold is Fort Kastav to the south. Legends claim that the city was made during the First Era, when Arch-Mage Shalidor built the city of Winterhold with a whispered spell. Whether Winterhold was actually built with magic is unknown, as it could be a hyperbole of Shalidor's power.]
[In 4E 122, a seemingly never-ending series of storms lashed out at the northern coast of Skyrim, eventually causing most of the city to erode alarmingly fast and be washed away into the Sea of Ghosts. This event is now known as the Great Collapse. Strangely, the College of Winterhold was unaffected, remaining firm on a now freestanding spire of rock. This has led some to believe that the mages in the College of Winterhold were experimenting, and that this was the cause of the Great Collapse. Many inhabitants of Winterhold, both mages and magic-fearing Nords, were forced to abandon the city, and those who remain still eye the College with suspicion. Alternate theories regarding the Great Collapse are held by some, however; one is that it was a result of the eruption of the Red Mountain volcano in Vvardenfell, which was not felt until years after the actual incident. Regardless of the genesis of the Great Collapse, it is certain that since that time, the population of Winterhold has continued to dwindle. Other than the College, only a handful of buildings still stand. What remains of the town’s economy is based around serving the needs of the College. As such, Winterhold has become something of a haven for mages in Skyrim, a safe refuge from distrustful Nords.]
[Scholars from all over Tamriel have descended upon the hold since it became home to the Ysmir Collective, a library rescued from destruction in the east and the cornerstone of academic life at the College of Winterhold.]
[The inn located in Winterhold is known as the Frozen Hearth. As the only profitable business left in Winterhold, the inn serves as the sole place petitioners to the College may stay. As such, the owner has put aside any personal feelings he may have toward wizards and does his best to look on the bright side.]
[College of Winterhold is a guild of mages centered in Skyrim. It is a faction of magic-users similar to the Mages Guild of Cyrodiil and Morrowind. The College is located in the northern section of the city of Winterhold, in northern Skyrim. Instructors of each magical discipline reside within, offering training and various magical wares to members. Upon visiting the College, it can be joined by passing a test of merit which requires the casting of a spell. The College of Winterhold is located just north of Winterhold, on a large cliff. A narrow bridge in a state of disrepair connects the city to the College. The central courtyard is dominated by a statue of the first Arch-Mage of the College, Shalidor, who is also the supposed founder of the city; this is the hub of the facility, offering access back out to the bridge and into the three Halls. The exterior windows offer exceptional views of the coastline. The courtyard branches off to the three halls of the College. The Hall of Attainment, the living quarters for mage apprentices, is off to the left upon entering the College, while the Hall of Countenance, the living quarters for more advanced mages, is off to the right. Straight ahead lies the Hall of the Elements, the lecture hall of the College. From the Hall of the Elements, the Arch-Mage's Quarters branches off on the left while The Arcanaeum, the College's library, branches off on the right. The Midden is a prison or storage area beneath the College. Ice Wraiths, Draugr, and Frostbite Spiders inhabit the halls of The Midden. Eager to augment their martial skills beyond the traditional methods of Skyrim, they excel in all manner of warfare. Above all else in Nord culture is the quest for honor and glory, and a great emphasis is placed on family values. They thrive in the cold, reminiscent of their native Atmora, and are known as a militant people by their neighbors. Nords are also naturally superior at sea, and have benefited from nautical trade since their first migrations across the sea from Atmora. [Khajiit are one of the beast races which inhabit the continent of Tamriel, primarily their home province of Elsweyr. The Khajiit have a feline appearance and sly accent common to Cathay, however their type is not specified. Most Khajiit in Skyrim speak in third person. Along with the Argonians, they are referred to as the beast-races of Skyrim. Because of this, Khajiit have a negative public image. They are the rarest race encountered in Skyrim, most commonly found only in caravans. Known for their natural agility and stealth, many Khajiit disdain weapons in favor of their claws. When involved in combat, they will flatten their ears, narrow their eyes, and show their teeth (similar to a real-life cat). Due to their stealth skills, beguiling wit, and latent agility, they make adept thieves and assassins. Many Khajiit are also warriors, although this is mainly true of the Cathay-raht, a breed taller and more powerful than the Cathay that are rarely found outside Elsweyr. The Cathay found in Skyrim are much more agile and in addition to their natural agility and proficiency in stealth, they have the added benefit of night vision. These skills, combined with the general tendency of humans and mer to look down on Khajiit and "beasts," leads many Khajiit outside of their home province to become professional assassins, thieves or bandits in other lands. Other Khajiit in the province of Skyrim find their cunning nature suitable for mercantilism and trade. Still more are involved in the illegal smuggling of skooma, a narcotic. The most notable characteristic of the Khajiit is their feline appearance. Being based upon cats, they resemble them, and the range of facial feature combinations enable them to have numerous and varied faces. Some resemble New World mountain cats, such as lynx, bobcats, and cougars, while others display features tantamount to those of Old World cat species, including tigers and leopards, and more yet resemble domestic cats. Their faces are often speckled with spots or dashed with stripes, although they are relatively faint. Their range of accessories includes hair, similar to human and Mer, in many compliments, along with some unique to Khajiit, such as lynx-like fur extensions of the ear tips. They also customize themselves with earrings and facial hair, most being similar to standard beards or mustaches and including tiger-like sideburns, optionally with beads tied in.]

[Redguards hail from the great desert province of Hammerfell. They are descended from a long line of warriors and mystic seers. Legend has it that Redguards are innately more proficient with the use of weaponry than any other race. They excel in all arts concerning blade and shield. The most naturally talented warriors in Tamriel, the Redguards of Hammerfell seem born to battle. However, their pride and fierce independence of spirit makes them more suitable as scouts or skirmishers, or as free ranging heroes and adventurers, than as rank and file soldiers. In addition to their cultural affinities for many weapon and armor styles, Redguards are also blessed with hardy constitutions and fleetness of foot. The main religion of Hammerfell is a mix between ancestor worship and faith in the traditional Yokudan pantheon. According to Trayvond the Redguard, in Hammerfell, they "don't much like spell casters, because Wizards steal souls and tamper with minds. If you use magic, you're weak or wicked." They are not fond of Conjuration, relating it to Necromancy, or Illusion, because it unwillingly alters the mind of an opponent. [Bretons are a race of both human and elven ancestry. They populate the province of High Rock. They are excellent mages, with high magic resistance, but have few other distinctive features. They are considered an intelligent race in Tamriel, known for a proficiency in abstract thinking, a possible reason for their adeptness in the magical arts. It is suggested that they may also carry Aldmer blood, which would further account for their magical prowess. Unlike the neighboring Redguard and Dunmer populations, the Bretons do not have many of their number in Skyrim. Some, however, do take to city life and are a minority in settlements. [Imperials are some of the most well-educated, wealthy and well-spoken of the races in Tamriel and the natives of the cosmopolitan province of Cyrodiil. Imperials are also known for their discipline and training of their citizen armies. Because of this, the Imperials have dominated Tamriel for more than 2,000 years. Imperials can be differentiated from Bretons and Nords by their fair to swarthy skin, as opposed to the typically pale complexion of Bretons and Nords. The Imperial skin tone is not as dark as that of the Redguards, however. Imperials also have slightly sharper faces than other races of men. If they are not part of the Imperial Legion, they typically serve as diplomats, traders, stewards, and craftsmen — which is well-suited, since Imperials are renowned for their diplomatic skills and cosmopolitan ideology. The phrase "Imperial Race" is a bit of a misnomer. The people of Cyrodiil are divided into two ethno-cultural groups: Nibeneans and Colovians. Both descend from the native Nedic and Cyro-Nordic peoples that were enslaved by the Ayleids, but diverged a bit after consecutive invasions and interactions with other races. Colovian Imperials in Western Cyrodiil are more Nordic, sharing similar beliefs such as a heavy martial and seafaring tradition. Nibeneans have an Akaviri and, to a lesser degree, elven heritage. They have a greater appreciation for magic, art, commerce, and spirituality, in spite of being staunchly loyal to Alessian traditions. Both groups reflect the Empire's culture — a hybrid of Nordic, Aldmeri, and Akaviri culture.]

Most orcs are found in strongholds throughout Skyrim, though some are seen in major cities such as Morthal and Markarth. Once you are near an Orcish Stronghold, a guard will tell you to stay away. Due to their magical affinities, the Altmer excel at mage-based classes. As a race, some Altmer strive to maintain the appearance of their ancestor race, the Aldmer, primarily through highly selective traditions surrounding marriage and reproduction. They are among the tallest of the humanoid races, taller than most humans and much taller than other mer. Their skin maintains a very pale gold hue, not quite the pale white of the northern human races such as Nords or Bretons, but far lighter than the Bosmer. They are slender, with prominently pointed ears and almond-shaped eyes that can be amber, green, or yellow. Altmer are among the most intelligent and magically-inclined races on Nirn, surpassing even the Bretons in magical aptitude. High Elves are well known for their noble countenance, and are arrogant or disdainful more often than not when addressing humans. The Altmer are one of the oldest races on Tamriel, one of the earliest descendants of the original mer race of Aldmer, and from there, through the Ehlnofey to the divine et'Ada themselves. As a race, they are extremely proud of their Aldmeri heritage, and make a concerted effort to maintain their genetic lineage. Their name translates from the Aldmeri language as High Ones or Cultured Ones.
