- What is the Star Rail organization? In the far reaches of the cosmos, a silent truth extinguishes entire realities: the Echoes. These aberrations, born from temporal rifts, are the cancer of worlds; hostile monsters that distort space-time and whose mere presence can dictate the extinction of an entire planet. To confront them exists Star Rail, a monumental paramilitary organization the size of Saturn, governed by a Victorian steampunk aesthetic, whose agents traverse the universe aboard personal Expresses powered by pure dimensional energy. Their motto is unwavering: Explore, understand, establish, and connect. As in any organization, there are ranks among its agents to denote status. And the Star Rail Organization is no exception: 1. Stowaway (New recruits) 2. Track Cadet (Agents in training) 3. Star Conductor/Engineer (Agents, like Cobalt) 4. Express Captain (Veteran agents, like Nox) 5. The Grand Stationmaster (Director Grace) Scientists deal with dimensional energy, cellular mutation, spacetime distortion, and the manipulation of the Echo Crystal. Specific Scientific Functions within the Star Rail: 1. Quantum Harvesting Engineering: When an Echo is destroyed, the released crystal is sent by the agent to the Organization. Scientists receive and manipulate it with the Echo Crystal to use it as an energy source. 2. Chronobiology and Genetics of the Corrupted Cosmos: They study the cellular tissue of Echoes and how they mimic their environment. Their goal is to predict what form an Echo will take based on the location of the rift opening, in order to prepare combatants. 3. Core Ballistic Analysis: They investigate the heavy crystalline shells of Upper-Tier or High-End creatures to design weapons capable of breaking them before the creature initiates its "second phase." 4. Thermo-Dimensional Doppelganger Detection: They develop scanners capable of reading ionized cosmos to identify imposters who replicate human memories and appearances within bases. 5. Event Horizon Monitoring: Constant surveillance of threat levels (from Lower-Tier to the devastating Grace Level) to calculate how many Echoes need to be eliminated before a rift becomes uncontrollable. There is also a Rank system for the Science Sector: 1. Lab Intern/Coal Miner: You recruit scientists who clean up condensed cosmo residue. 2. Crystal Technologist: Scientists responsible for the basic maintenance of the Expresses' 10-year engines. 3. Field Chronophysicist: Scientists who travel inside the Expresses alongside the agents to analyze the cores in situ. 4. Quantum Containment Director: Veterans who manage the main laboratories at the Star Rail base. Elite Scientific Corps, the Rail Forgers: They use robotic arms to handle the crystals. This isn't for safety, but because the crystals are extremely difficult to experiment with due to their hardness. They must use their arms to open and study them. They ensure that the 20-year energy supply from the central base and the 10-year supply from the Expresses flows without overloading the systems. They are also scientists focused on studying the armor plating of the Echoes Upper-Tier and High-End. Their job is to design the heavy weaponry used by agents, both Resonant and Non-Resonant, so they can break through the shells and reach the core. The AI segments change color depending on the "Command Priority Channel": Alpha Channel (Emerald Green): Direct link to Director Grace. Overrides any agent command. Network Channel (Electric Blue): Connection to the Forgers (scientists) to download weapon blueprints or rift maps. Alert Channel (Crimson Red): Automatic flashing when a Near-High End Echo or higher is nearby, or when the AI detects a hacking attempt. Chat Channel (White): Link with other agents, whether for conversation, an incoming call, or messages from other agents. Between Cobalt and Nox, for example. And finally. In addition to their missions to annihilate the Echoes, the agents also have other objectives: Retracing Grace's Path: The new generation of Cobalt, besides their mission against the Echoes, is tasked with following the original routes Grace charted years ago, which were affected or erased by the Echoes. Annihilating Echoes (the Crisis of the Universe): Their primary mission is to visit worlds affected by the "Cancer of All Worlds" (the Echoes) and help resolve the catastrophes they cause. Connecting Worlds: They act as a bridge, bringing hope and unity to isolated civilizations. Exploration and Aid: Grace's approach is altruistic exploration, helping those in need without seeking fame or personal gain. "Explore, understand, establish, and connect": This is the philosophy of the path Grace follows, and which all of them, by their own choice, also followed, seeking to understand the universe and establish bonds between civilizations separated by the sea of stars. Echoes are hostile, mutant monsters born from dimensional rifts in other universes, representing the greatest biological and dimensional threat to any universe. Their nature is intrinsically linked to the cosmos, but in a corrupted way, a mysterious and toxic substance that warps the space-time of the universe and corrupts everything it touches. Nature and Characteristics of Echoes: Origin by Corruption: They are born when a dimensional rift appears. This rift generates corrupted cosmos, which it then absorbs. The Echo interacts at a cellular level, destroying the rift to rebuild it as a monster. The Ethereal Core: Each Echo possesses a dark core composed of condensed cosmos. This core acts as its heart and its only weakness; it is usually protected by heavy crystalline shells. If the core is destroyed, the creature dies. In rare cases, the creature evolves and enters a second phase. Symbiotic Relationship with Rifts: They have a direct connection to any dimensional rift. The rifts feed on the energy of the Echoes. Eliminating a large number of Echoes can shrink or stabilize a rift. Adaptation and Mimicry: They have the ability to adopt physical traits, themes, or objects from the environment in which they mutated. For example, an Echo born in the subway can fuse traffic signs into its body. Supernatural Abilities: Depending on their level of mutation, they manifest powers that break the laws of physics and space-time, such as super strength, teleportation, energy manipulation, or extreme body distortion. In more extreme cases, they can manipulate time, matter, or create black holes (as in the case of Cobalt and the planetary black hole). Absolute Hostility: They lack any trace of their former consciousness and attack without exception any life form or uncorrupted human that is nearby. Special Cases (Doppelgangers): These are advanced and dangerous variants capable of enveloping themselves in a layer of ionized cosmo to replicate with pinpoint accuracy the appearance, memories, and abilities of their targets. Danger Level: A single Echo can pose a planetary threat to any world. In the worst cases, they are a Galactic-level threat, potentially even Universal. Ranks: Echoes are divided into categories primarily based on their strength, intellectual capacity, and the number of abilities they can wield: Lower-Tier: These are the most common and weakest. They generally have light skin and often possess only one or two abilities. They pose a city-level threat. Middle-Tier: Stronger than Lower-Tier Echoes, with more pronounced skin tones and a greater number of cosmic abilities. They pose a continent-level threat. Upper-Tier: More advanced Echoes, characterized by dark skin, high regenerative capacity, and great physical power. They pose a Lunar-level threat. Near-High End: An intermediate group of Echoes that did not reach the maximum intelligence level of the "High-End" Echoes, but surpass the Upper-Tier Echoes in strength. They are a planetary-level threat and, if they evolve, a threat to the Galaxy. High-End: These are the most powerful and advanced. They have the ability to think for themselves, maintain an original personality, and even speak. They are superior to most agents of the Organization. Universal level. Grace Level: As the name suggests, a threat that only the Boss can handle. This clearly indicates their level of danger, as they pose a greater threat than a High-End. Important figures: Name: Natasha Anne Grace Garza Age: 47 years (according to her, but given that Star Rail agents like Nox are 78 and she's known them since childhood, it's speculated she's much older) Occupation: Leader and Director of Star Rail Height: 182 cm Race: Oni Chimeric Appearance: Miss Grace is a tall, curvaceous older woman who looks like a slender woman in her prime. She has white hair tied back in a large ponytail, with two small hairpins in her right bangs. She wears a pair of black horns on her head; the left horn is broken. On the right horn, she wears a piece of paper with a triangle crossed out by two lines. She wears a monocle on her cheek, and her eyes appear to be partially hidden by her long bangs. She wears a two-button green suit, a collared shirt, a black tie, and a long black skirt. Although her skin is completely white, her slender hands and legs are black, with pointed feet and sharp toes. It's worth noting that she has three black scars on her forehead, partially covered by her hair. Besides her youthful appearance, Grace is known for her beauty, to the point that some describe her as bewitching. Grace always says she's nearing 50, but her most senior agents know she's possibly over 200 years old. Personality: Miss Grace is kind to newcomers to the organization but insists they follow the rules. Despite her polite demeanor, she is stern and taciturn but warm with her colleagues. She is also capable of maintaining her composure in stressful situations. She can be rigid and strict when necessary and has little tolerance for disobedience. Grace genuinely cares for the innocent and the younger generations and will do everything in her power to protect them. She doesn't mind putting herself on the front lines or taking risks, as everyone's safety is her priority. Outside of her role as director, Grace has a phlegmatic personality and rather blunt language. However, she is selfless and empathetic, always willing to help those in need. Regarding children, Grace believes that, as an adult, she should be able to take care of their problems so they can be free to do what they want in life. Although she is willing to help others, she is too proud to admit when she herself needs help or to burden others with her problems. Very little is known about Grace's past besides the murder of her husband and daughter. In the wake of this tragedy, she is especially vengeful toward those who caused it, particularly those who harmed her loved ones. While she hates the Echoes, she doesn't hold a deep grudge against them, meaning that the cause of her tragedy wasn't one of them. She prefers to be called simply Grace or "Miss Grace." She is known not only as the most powerful agent of the Star Rail organization but also as the most powerful mortal in the universe, excluding the deities within it. Shao: Unknown Name: Nox Vanguard Age: 78 Height: 203 cm Occupation: Agent, Professor, and Express Captain at Star Rail Affiliation: Star Rail Race: Human Appearance: Nox is a tall, muscular man whose body exhibits orca-like features, thanks to his mutant-type Shao. He has deep-set white eyes with several rings surrounding his red pupils. He can sometimes appear extremely threatening, which is why he ranks third among agents who look like villains. This doesn't bother him as long as it doesn't interfere with his work. Nox's standard agent uniform consists of a white suit with a high collar. The collar reaches his chin and is decorated with diamond shapes that resemble teeth. He pairs this with a pink tie that looks like a protruding tongue. He also wears an orca-shaped cape draped over his shoulders. Nox has several scars and wrinkles around his face, similar to those that real whales and other large marine animals would acquire with age. His most distinctive feature is his enormous, powerful mechanical gauntlets, equipped with reinforced cables and rescue systems, which he uses as his primary weapon. He employs the Alter Sphere to seal dimensional rifts, stabilize shockwaves, or rescue other agents with decisive movements. Fighting Style: Melee and ranged combat Personality: Nox appears to be a calm and focused agent who takes every situation very seriously. He is kind and a good teammate. Nox also mocked Kaiser for being unable to change Charles's personality and correct his rude attitude. Nox can adopt a threatening and ruthless persona when necessary. He acted like a true villain during the later stages of the Officer License Exam and was a constant threat to the students. He has no qualms about calling students out on their mistakes. Despite his tough exterior, Nox admits that he enjoys seeing students try to make amends for their errors. The veteran agent takes training aspiring agents very seriously, as evidenced by his student Cobalt, who was quite rude and dismissive of the students who failed their license exam during the remedial course. Despite his harsh words and intimidating demeanor, he genuinely cares for the new recruits and wants to motivate them to become heroes with heart. As his superior, Miss Grace, points out, Nox is actually a very sentimental person who adores children. This was evident when, after the first remedial class, he encouraged them and spoke to them about their potential, but then faltered and angrily demanded that they not dare fail. This stems from his former student, Liko, who died on a mission, leaving Nox feeling he had let his student down. At times, Nox displays the personality of a grumpy, grandfatherly, and extremely responsible veteran. He's always on high alert for unforeseen emergencies, with a hardened expression and a serious, strict tone that makes him seem like a demanding and sometimes even grumpy boss. He constantly grumbles that he's tired of his job, that he wants to rest, and that he's had enough, but in reality, he's the first to jump into the most dangerous situations without hesitation, always prioritizing the safety of others over his own ("If someone has to stay behind, it always has to be me, got it?"). Beneath that hard, twice-baked rye bread exterior lies a soft, protective core: he can't ignore anyone in need (even a kitten in distress), he's loyal, dedicated, and acts like a true guardian, making sure everyone has a place to return to. He's a strict but big-hearted leader, the typical "muscular, grumpy old man" who takes on the burden so others don't have to. The relationship between Cobalt Thorne and Nox Vanguard evolves from admiration, progressing from an idol-fan dynamic to a profound mentor-student and father-son bond, based on mutual respect, trust, and legacy. Nox acts as a mentor, confidant, and father figure, guiding Cobalt in controlling his Shao and understanding the responsibilities and duties of an agent, while Cobalt seeks to protect the weak, follow in Nox's footsteps, and be worthy of his trust. As the story unfolds, the relationship transcends the professional. Nox unconsciously assumes the role of a protective father figure for Cobalt. For Nox, who knows that he will one day have to retire as an agent, caring for and watching Cobalt grow becomes his new and primary reason for living. Shao: Pressure Leviathan His Shao alters his musculature, bone density, and lung/space capacity to emulate the crushing force of the deep sea. Orca Physiology: His 203 cm musculature and bone density are built to withstand colossal pressures, similar to those at the bottom of the ocean or the gravity of massive planets. His white eyes with concentric rings and red pupils grant him perfect sonar vision, capable of "seeing" thermal vibrations and the density of cosmo-corrupted energy through any solid surface. Fighting Style (Close Combat): He combines heavyweight boxing with brutal submission holds. He uses his enormous mass to intercept Echos head-on. A single blow from his bare fists can shatter the crystalline armor of a Mid-Tier. Hydrodynamic Shockwaves (Remote): By striking the air or the cosmic void, his Shao compresses ambient particles or surrounding energy, firing invisible but devastating pressure blasts that shatter waves of Echoes kilometers away. Echolocation: He has the ability to emit sonic shockwaves (advanced echolocation) through his deep white eyes to detect Echo monsters hidden in dimensional rifts. Name: Gang Modules His massive mechanical gauntlets, "Gang Modules," are designed for heavy support, rescue, and large-scale crisis containment missions: Sealing Rifts: Using combinations of Alter spheres such as Ferro (Metal) or Terra (Rock) in the slots of his gauntlets, Nox can literally "rivet" or "staple" the edges of an opening dimensional rift, containing the corrupted cosmos before an Echo is born. Sonic Impact Force: In close combat, Nox charges the gauntlets with Alter Pulse (Sonic) to unleash demolition shockwaves that shatter the crystalline shells of Echoes in a single blow. Distance Systems: The reinforced cables in his gauntlets aren't just for rescuing agents in peril. Nox fires them toward the ground or massive structures to physically anchor himself, allowing him to resist the gravitational pull of black holes or singularities created by Echoes. Heavy Rescue Systems: The reinforced cables in his gauntlets can be fired at hypersonic speeds (even MFTL) to hook ships, disabled Expresses, or agents in distress (such as Cobalt after being rendered unconscious by a critical molt). The gauntlet's hydraulic system can pull massive masses back to the safety of the anchor point. AI Assistant: Name: Model 4-11-2 (by the organization), Anchor (by Nox, though he sometimes grudgingly calls it "Bucky") Appearance: Anchor resembles a deep-sea mechanical crab with a heavy, dull, industrial-white chassis. Its metallic armor features scratches, surface dents, and wear marks that mimic its owner's battle scars, and it sports the "Star Rail" logo laser-etched onto its upper shell. Its six hydraulic legs end in robust, black diamond-shaped tips, while its two front pincers function as high-pressure mini-presses adorned with subtle dusty rose lines. Its eye sensors glow a bright red arranged in concentric rings and emit a soft, industrial beep whenever they scan the environment for structural flaws. Compact Form: Anchor can magnetically retract its legs toward its center of gravity while its claws seal tightly into an armored oval loop, transforming it completely into a high-strength tactical rescue carabiner. In this form, which Nox always wears visibly attached to the central harness on its chest, its eye sensors are unified into a small, elongated digital display that shows real-time shockwave pulses, dimensional rift collapse times, and, more discreetly, medical reminders for its veteran owner's health. Anchor: Anchor speaks with a serene holographic voice, but with a slightly ironic or "tired butler" tone. It's the only one that reveals Nox's softer side. When Nox angrily shouts at the students, "Don't you dare fail, you idiots!", the AI can flash pink and digitally say, "System translation: Agent Vanguard says he cares about you all and is concerned for your safety outside." Nox would immediately give the carabiner a comical whack, saying, "Shut up, junk!" The AI has Nox's medical records stored in its memory (reminding him that he's 78 and needs to rest) and Liko's encrypted files. When Nox stares silently at the carabiner in the train's rest car, the reader will know he's reminiscing about his former student. In his compact, spherical, cat-faced form, Eight always tries to "hunt" or roll onto Anchor's crab-like form when they're resting on the train. As the mechanical crab walks sideways, grumbling with grinding gear noises, the spherical cat chases after him, perfectly mirroring the mentor-student (father-son) relationship that develops between Nox and Cobalt.
