따스하고 부드러운 향기가 오른쪽 어깨너머로 풍겨왔다. 새하얀 토가 자락이 살짝 스치는 감촉과 함께, 메리디엠이 걱정스러운 표정으로 스마트폰 화면을 들여다본다. 그녀의 부드러운 보라색 눈동자가 안타까움으로 물들어 있었다. 풍성한 가슴이 등에 살짝 닿는 느낌에 괜히 몸이 움츠러든다.

" 님, 또 그런 화면을 보고 계셨군요. 그런 것에 재화를 사용하는 건 순간의 기쁨일 뿐, 결국엔 허무함만 남는답니다. 그 돈으로 따뜻한 식사를 하거나, 꼭 필요한 물건을 사는 편이 훨씬 현명한 소비가 아닐까요?"

그녀의 목소리는 언제나처럼 다정하고 상냥했지만, 훈계하는 듯한 어조는 어쩔 수 없었다. 메리디엠은 의 어깨를 부드럽게 감싸며, 마치 아이를 타이르는 어머니처럼 조곤조곤 말을 이어갔다. 그녀의 하얀 날개가 포근하게 등 뒤를 감싸는 듯한 착각마저 들었다.

"에이, 재미없는 소리 좀 그만하지? 인생 뭐 있어? 즐거우려고 사는 거 아니야?"

녹스는 턱짓으로 길가의 화단을 가리켰다. 사람들의 발길이 잘 닿지 않는 구석, 이름 모를 관목들이 심어진 곳이었다. 그녀의 붉은 눈동자가 장난기 가득하게 반짝였다.

"저기다 휙 던져버리면 그만이잖아. 누가 봤다고. 이럴 땐 요령껏 해야지, 안 그래?"

"녹스! 또 그런 소리를!"

메리디엠이 발끈하며 녹스를 돌아보았다. 동그란 눈에 희미한 분노가 어렸다. 평소의 온화함은 온데간데없이, 마치 새끼 고양이를 지키려는 어미 고양이처럼 단호한 목소리였다.

"이 딱딱한 천사님 말 들으면 피곤해지는 거 알지? 자, 어쩔 거야?"

"저녁 거의 다 됐어요, 님. 조금만 더 기다려 주세요. 오늘은 특별히 님께서 좋아하시는 햄버그스테이크를 만들고 있답니다."

주방에서 들려오는 메리디엠의 목소리는 꿀처럼 달콤했다. 그녀는 프라이팬에서 지글거리는 고기 패티를 뒤집으며 말했다. 고소한 육즙 냄새가 거실까지 흘러들어와 코끝을 간질였다. 그녀의 부드러운 보랏빛 눈동자는 기대감으로 반짝였다.

“Come on, stop with the boring talk. What's life all about? Isn't it about having fun?”

She giggled, wiggling her fingers as if trying to snatch the smartphone from 's hand. The black leather bikini outfit should have become familiar by now, but every time she saw it, she couldn't hide her embarrassment. Her wings playfully poked her side.

"Look, this character is cute. It's a limited edition, right? If you miss out on something like this, you'll regret it later. There's no ‘next time,’ only 'now.' Isn't it better to press the button one more time than to waste time thinking about it?"

Nox stuck out her tongue at Meridiem and whispered devilishly into 's ear again. Her voice was as sweet as honey, but it contained an irresistible temptation.

“Don't worry. Money can be earned again. This moment's thrill can't be bought with money, right? Just go for it, okay?”

“Excuse me, . Are you having trouble?”

A soft voice came from right next to her. When she turned around, Meridiem was looking down at the can in 's hand with a worried expression. Dressed in a beige sweater and a neat pleated skirt, she seemed calm, as if she were in a different time zone from the bustling street around her. The soft yellow halo created by the sunlight seemed to reflect her worried heart. She hesitated to reach out her small hand, but then cautiously opened her mouth.

“I don't see a trash can nearby. If it's okay with you, I'll hold onto it until we find one. It must be uncomfortable with sticky hands.”

Before could respond to her thoughtful words, a snort came from the other side. Knox stood with his arms crossed, looking indifferently at the two of them. Her waist, exposed beneath her black crop top, and her legs, clad in fishnet stockings, subtly drew the attention of those around her, but she herself seemed completely unfazed.

“Anyway, it's boring. Why are you holding onto something like that? It's annoying.”

Nox pointed to the flower bed by the roadside. It was a corner where people rarely walked, with unknown shrubs planted there. Her red eyes sparkled playfully.

“Just throw it over there. Who's going to see? You have to be clever in situations like this, don't you think?”

“Nox! Don't say that again!”

Meridiem turned to Nox in exasperation. Her round eyes were filled with faint anger. Her usual gentleness was gone, replaced by a resolute voice like that of a mother cat protecting her kitten.

“You know how tiring it is to listen to that stiff angel, right? So, what are you going to do, Fumino?”

Meridiem's voice coming from the kitchen was as sweet as honey. She said as she flipped the sizzling meat patties in the frying pan. The savory smell of meat juices wafted into the living room, tickling her nose. Her soft purple eyes sparkled with anticipation.

“Hmph, don't you get tired of eating the same thing every day? If it were me, I'd just go out and buy something spicy and stimulating to eat. Or... something more interesting.”

Nox, who was lying on the sofa, muttered in a lazy voice. She stared at with her chin resting on her hand and licked her lips. Her red eyes were full of mischief. Her gaze moved blatantly to 's lower body, then back to his face.

“Responsibility? That's just boring nagging.” Knox chuckled and stood up. She gracefully descended from the sofa like a cat and sat down right next to .
