Into the Abyss — v1.0.9
- 엔진이 Lua로 돌아가므로 RisuAI(또는 PocketRisu)에서 써야 합니다.
Into the Abyss — v1.0.9
A thousand years after the fall of the Seredian Empire, an abyss opened at the heart of the continent. In the border city on its rim, you become an adventurer and descend into the Great Dungeon with your companions.
What this bot is
- A turn-based dungeon-crawling RPG. A built-in engine runs combat and every roll; the AI turns the results into story. Hits and damage are never made up by the AI.
- A party of four fights in turn order. Your own character (persona) can join the fight, or you can send four companions instead.
- 10 classes, 6 races, 30 companions. You meet companions one at a time through the Guild's introductions.
- Every enemy has an Abyss gauge. Wear it down with skills and the enemy breaks, opening a window for heavy damage.
- The Great Dungeon has nine zones and 27 floors, with the Depths continuing endlessly below. You can also take Guild contracts out to the rifts.
- An expedition ends when you return or fall, but your companions, affection, levels and gear stay with you.
- Outside the dungeon, you chat freely. Each companion has her own personality and affection, and the relationship changes as your time together adds up.
- Contains NSFW scenes. All characters are adults. NSFW assets come in a separate module.
Getting started
- On the first screen, pick a language (한국어 / English) and create your adventurer. Your adventurer uses your persona's name.
- Use the on-screen buttons for town, dungeon and combat.
- When a battle ends, the result is placed in the chat. Press send with an empty message and the AI narrates what happened, or type something to send along with it.
- Conversation and NSFW scenes are yours to lead by typing.
The first few floors are tuned so you can clear them without a healer. Things get serious around level 10, on floor 7.
Recent changes
- v1.0.9: Great Dungeon ranking (deepest floor · top %) based on cloud saves; tampered records are excluded.
- v1.0.9: The shop sells Level-up Scrolls and Common/Fine gear.
- v1.0.9: Hanna's Smithy is now a place you enter. Refining upgrades gear you own up to +10 (lower success at higher steps); Processing turns gold into a random piece of gear, with the odds shown on screen (subject to change) and gear and price depending on your level. Results can't be rerolled. When you're done, press "Finish" to talk with Hanna.
- v1.0.9: Every NPC now has affinity, rising by 1 each time you do something at their place and shown on screen. Pietro at the Marento Trading House sometimes slips in a Philter of Allure when his affinity is 50 or higher; drink it during a Great Dungeon rest to spend private time with a party member of your choice.
- v1.0.9: Gear level requirements now go by grade, and gear stats scale with the wearer's level. Common and Fine gear drop more often.
- v1.0.9: Build your persona's signature skill with Guildmaster Loredana — combine a prefix (core) and a suffix (bonus effect), upgrade each piece with gold, then Save to talk it over with her. Switch any time for free; using it plays a cut-in of your persona portrait.
- v1.0.9: Elite contracts join the board (4 slots): enemies 1.5–2× stronger, with big gold and guaranteed gear.
- v1.0.8: Guild contracts now come in Low, Medium and High difficulty, scaled to your highest-level character. Great Dungeon rewards rise with depth to match the risk, and higher-grade gear is rarer (Legendary only from deep-floor bosses).
- v1.0.7: Guild contract gold rewards now scale with level (up to 16× Level 1). Contracts already on the board update immediately.
- v1.0.6: Fixed Bianca's Cut Your Losses executing floor-end chiefs; bosses and chiefs now only take +30% damage. Asking companions about their skills or traits in chat now gets answers that match the codex.
- v1.0.5: Paired with the combat auto-scroll plugin. On your turn the screen shows your party, picking a skill shows the enemies, signature-skill cut-ins are centered, and it returns to your party when the animation ends. Works on phones, foldables and tablets.
- v1.0.4: Fixed the stat points you assign when creating your character (Speed, Agility and so on) not applying in combat. Existing characters get them from the next battle.
- v1.0.3: The first screen now has "Load existing adventure". Enter your cloud account code to pick up where you left off without making a new character.
- v1.0.3: The top menu has a new "Save" button for cloud saving and loading.
- v1.0.3: Loading a save starts you at the inn, where the companion who has fought beside you the longest and the one closest to you talk over the journey so far.
- v1.0.3: Fixed the first screen scrolling sideways on mobile.
- v1.0.2: fixed the freeze when importing the bot or opening its chat. It now opens lightly even on low-memory servers.
Which version should I download?
There are two versions. The game is identical; only the way the files are split differs.
-
Full: one bot file (~26MB) with every expression asset inside. Best for PCs and servers with plenty of memory. The NSFW module (~197MB) is optional.
-
Lite: a bot file (~5MB) with default expressions only. The Expressions module (~20MB) and the Lite NSFW module (~56MB) are optional. Best for low-memory servers such as Oracle's free VM.
-
The Lite bot holds one default expression per companion. Turn on the Expressions module to get every expression, just like the Full version; with it off, only the default expression appears.
-
The Lite NSFW module has the same 2,470 images at lower resolution and quality. Enable either the Full or the Lite NSFW module, not both.
-
Cloud saves carry over between versions.
NSFW asset module (optional)
- Import the NSFW module (Lite: the Lite NSFW module) and enable it to add assets to NSFW scenes: 38 characters, 2,470 images.
- Choose Off / Upper body / All with the module toggle "NSFW assets (NSFW 에셋)".
- During a scene, write something like "show me 10 assets" and the AI will place them throughout the reply. This works the same whether the scene started from a button or simply grew out of the chat.
Settings
- Language: switch between Korean and English at any time.
- Memory: Adventure Chronicle, Chapter Summary and Prompt Diet help the AI remember what happened over long sessions and cut down what gets sent.
- Cloud save: continue on another device or in a new chat with a single account code.
Good to know
- The engine runs on Lua, so use RisuAI (or PocketRisu). If asked for low-level access when importing, allow it. Chapter Summary needs it to call the auxiliary model.
- If buttons don't update the screen, set screen refresh to "Force" in settings.
Developer's note
v1.0.1 was the first public release, and this is v1.0.9. The engine handles the rules and the AI handles the story, and most of the work went into making combat something you can enjoy without the AI quietly changing the numbers.
I'll keep tuning the balance. If a stretch feels too easy or too hard, a screen gets stuck, or a line reads oddly, please let me know and I'll fix it in the next version.

Into the Abyss
The Abyss still lies open at the continent's heart, a thousand years after the Seredia Empire fell apart. At its edge stands a border city founded by the Abyss Expedition Union. Adventurers take guild contracts and descend into the dungeon.

World Overview, Spring 1000 After the Sundering
- One continent. The Seredia Empire ruled most of it for 2,500 years before falling a thousand years ago. The Abyss burst open near capital Lumiel; a center already torn by civil war could not stop the monsters pouring out. Provincial lords defended their own lands as the empire broke into nations. The present is a thousand years later.
- Seven powers now stand: Holy Seredia Empire, Greater Karashin, Holy Kingdom of Solen, Republic of Marento, Naerin, Morgas Theocracy, and Kern Confederation. No one rules the southern red wastes, where dragons sleep.
- Six peoples inhabit them: humans, elves, demons, half-elves, Nox, and beastfolk. Seredia did not discriminate by race, but after its fall people gathered with their own kind and discrimination and hatred arose. Memories of that era faded and were later reconstructed, so some now praise "an empire without discrimination" while others remember "a realm that tried to erase us."
- Lumiel's ruins are the mouth of the great dungeon. Nations share its perimeter. Four founded the Abyssal Expedition Guild, commonly the guild, to run Border Cities and organize campaigns.
- The story opens in guild city Torva in spring 1000. A call has gone out for adventurers and heroes to conquer the dungeon. People of many nations and races arrive; {{user}} is among them.
- Cities are loud and bright; the Abyss grows darker and heavier below. Defeated explorers retreat wounded rather than die. Technology is late medieval, with plate, crossbows, and pikes but no gunpowder; magic fills the gap. Imperial relics exceed current craft and cannot be repaired.

Torva, Where You Are Staying
- A Border City southwest of the Abyss. The guild administers the sector jointly held by the Kern Confederation and Republic of Marento, with Kern mercenaries and Marento merchants governing together. Opened in 851, it is the largest of the three guild cities and the guild's field headquarters: Kern supplies soldiers, Marento money.
- Few ask where you came from; they offer a contract. Prejudice by race is rarer here, but poverty buys little kindness. The city is loud and rough, though outright deceit is uncommon.
- Within the walls are the Guild Hall with its commission board, companion referral desk, and accounts; Expedition Square; Castellan's Hall; Kern Barracks and Hanna's Smithy; Interpreters' Lane with Felice's apothecary; the Marento Trading House; and the Archive. Beyond them lie Lower Town with the Iron Bell Inn, taverns, and Rose Alley, as well as the Lantern Shelter. The East Gate Checkpoint at the city's eastern edge borders the imperial March.
- Ruins of the Old Imperial Academy stand outside the gate. Beneath them begins the Abyss's first district.

The Abyss and the Great Dungeon
- The Abyss is the interwoven mass of every life that has ever died, each still bearing its own traces. A thousand years ago, mages seeking a road to the divine realm opened a gate here. It was no divine realm.
- The great dungeon is the main body of the Abyss, opened over the ruins of old capital Lumiel at the continent's center and still open. Several nations divide its perimeter to stop the monsters spilling out: the guild's Border Cities Harben, Cadell, and Torva; the empire's March wall; Naerin's Thornroot Hedge; and Morgas's Obsidian Temple Line. Monsters' bodies mix traces of former lives and ancestors. Taverns trade stories of familiar faces among them.
- "The way back closes inside the Abyss" was said after three great armies failed to return. Now small parties descend one floor at a time, explore, rest, defeat a floor boss, and choose whether to return or continue. Coming back alive counts as success.
- Torva faces the Ruins of the Old Imperial Academy, remnants of scholarly magic: broken classrooms and arcane automata on the upper first floor, then archives alive with forbidden books and ink, Lumiel's underpass, and the Abyssal Verge. Counting these four, nine districts span floors 1 to 27, then from floor 28 the sequence starts again (see the Great Dungeon districts entries for enemies). Depth brings danger and reward.
- Small rifts are little dungeons opened by the Abyss across the continent: in northwestern snowpeaks, northern steppe, northeastern volcano, eastern coast, southeastern forest, and southwestern snowpeaks, but not Naerin's western forest or the southern dragon wastes. They are sites of guild commissions. Monsters have an Abyss gauge; skills can drain it until depletion leaves them badly weakened. Small-rift commissions on the guild board come in three kinds: subjugation by raiding a rift core, rescue, and retrieval.

Chronicle (guild reckoning, After the Sundering)
- First days: Myth says Father God Orvion shaped the continent and departed. His three divine children made elves, demons, and beasts. Humans rose from beasts through the seed the Father left behind.
- Bronze Age: Unmagical humans used metal to drive back elves and demons. Half-elves, Nox, and beastfolk emerged at the borders.
- Seredia Empire, about 2,500 years: A realm without racial division, with scholarly magic, radial roads, and six gates. Succession war marked its end.
- Year 0: Mages seeking to recall the departed Father opened a gate into the Abyss, not heaven. Lumiel collapsed.
- Age of Ash, 0–120: Monsters spread along imperial roads. Nobles held them back with private soldiers and gained autonomy. People moved apart by race, following rations and the protection of temples and armies. Cremation became common.
- Age of Walls, 120–430: Naerin closed its forest in 143; Solen rose in 187; Nox were driven southwest; half-elf midwife Avern began the lantern keepers in 355.
- Age of Holy War, 430–820: Solen launched holy war against the northeastern demon lands. The Inquisition (477) and the Seal Oath (512) arose, and small rifts opened across the continent. The Nine Years' War, 779–788, halted without treaty, so the states are still "at holy war."
- Age of Contracts, 820–present: The Abyss Expedition Union formed in 823 and Torva opened in 851. Three great expeditions (871, 898, 927) sent armies in that never returned; they were abolished in 930 and the guild turned to commissions.
- Recent: Karashin's unification, 965–980; Drum revolt, 988; Torva contract reform, 990; Year of Isolation, 991; Prien incident, 992; Marento debt crisis, 993–998; great campaign call, spring 1000.
- Calendars differ: Guild and Marento say "1000 After the Sundering"; the empire says "Seredia year 3500" and imperial officials dislike hearing "After the Sundering"; the khanate uses the current khan's twelfth year and Solen clergy the archbishop's ninth.

Wastes of the Sleeping Dragons
- Red southern barrens governed by no nation. Caravans make a wide detour; no small rifts open here.
- Dragons sleep beneath them. Tradition calls them the Seven Breaths that Father God Orvion gave the continent in bodily form—not his children, but guardians of its bones, the mountains, and blood, the rivers. They serve him.
- When Orvion withdrew, he is said to have told them to guard the land and rest until his return. No living people have seen a waking dragon. Legend says they do not age and time passes for them only while awake.
- Hermagor, eldest of seven, is said to have a back like the red mountain at the wastes' heart. Imperial-funded scholars at Savel watch the sleeping dragons. Tavern tales of scavenged scales and bones are seldom verified.
- No one has tried to wake a dragon. Common sense says no one should.

Expedition and Combat (the engine rules; AI describes results)
- A party of four is {{user}} plus three companions, or four companions. Front-row fighters stand ahead of back-row support.
- Combat proceeds according to an action order list. The engine decides attacks, skills, hits, damage, falling, victory, and defeat. AI depicts its result without changing it: an engine victory is victory, and an engine defeat is defeat.
- There are six elements (Fire, Cold, Lightning, Wind, Holy, Dark) plus None. Each enemy's weakness is visible, and a flag telegraphs its next action.
- Skills can drain an enemy's Abyss gauge to zero; depletion makes it collapse and take more damage.
- Each dungeon floor runs: enter, explore five times, rest, fight the floor boss as a four-person raid, settle. There is no final floor, and difficulty grows with depth. Seven in ten explorations are fights, three discoveries of gold, items, or equipment. Elites may appear from the third exploration, at most two per floor. HP and MP do not regenerate after combat. Rest comes after the fifth exploration, before the floor boss: the whole party recovers about 30% HP and 60% MP, and may change gear and use items.
- A fallen companion is not dead: they stand at 20% HP for the next exploration battle, or can be raised with a bandage. At a rest, {{user}} may invite a close companion to spend the night; see the adult-scene entry.
- Defeating the boss adds its reward and opens the next floor. Retreat during exploration or before the boss keeps findings but gives no boss prize. A defeated party escapes, losing findings and some carried gold (half of up to 100 per star). First defeat of a district boss opens a shortcut to the next district's first floor.
- Small-rift contracts use the same combat rules. Affection shifts as companions fight, rest, and travel together; each likes and dislikes different actions (see the affection and companion entries).

Gods and Faith, as People Believe
- Orvion, the Father God shaped the continent, forming land above the waters and breathing seven breaths, the dragons, into it. When the land was complete, he withdrew beyond the sky to the divine realm, saying he would return when the time came. His sign is a circle; humans and dragons worship him.
- His three divine children are Isilia, maker of elves, whose sign is the Worldtree; Karnok, maker of demons, of volcanic breath; and youngest Fendor, maker of beasts, marked by a footprint. Each fell silent after Orvion left. Elves feel a trace in the Worldtree, demons in volcanoes. Beasts, made for nature's cycle, know no gods.
- Each country tells a slightly different version: the Church of the Father God says the Father will return; Naerin says he entrusted the earth to their mother; Morgas says Karnok received his spark. Each claims its god is legitimate.
- The human Church of the Father God follows the Book of Prophecy, collecting the words of the first humans called Prophets, who were said to hear Orvion. In Solen the archbishop, "successor to the Prophets' seat," shares power with the king. Doctrine centers on the account that false faith opened the Abyss; the Inquisition handles unlicensed magic.
- Nox believe Isilia and Karnok were "originally one." This is orthodox inside the Kern Confederation, which has shrines and valley priests in every valley; "heresy" is a label imposed beyond Kern. Elven and demonic temples hate it as a doctrine that diminishes their gods, while Solen suspects faiths outside the Father God. Nox priests have no temples beyond Kern and pray in barracks and on battlefields.
- Beastfolk have no native faith; some dogs convert to the Father, some foxes to Karnok. Present beliefs as beliefs, not a ruling on which is true. Let each character speak from their own faith.

Lantern Keepers, Avern's Light, and Funerals
- Most people cremate the dead, fearing burial will draw them to the Abyss; Naerin elves bury their dead by Worldtree roots. A widespread taboo forbids speaking a dead person's name for a year.
- The lantern keepers serve no god. Half-elf midwife Avern began the faith in winter 355 after a temple refused a funeral: "The gods neither made us nor welcomed us. The living must guard the dead."
- They believe the dead descend, become entangled with other dead, and lose themselves unless their names are called. Thus a name is spoken every night for a year after the funeral, directly against the common taboo. Others suspect them of "calling the dead and waking the Abyss."
- Three lights of doctrine: Call the name. Do not close the door—serve anyone's funeral, regardless of race, faith, or wrongdoing, without payment. Do not remain—priests build no temples but travel, either freely as itinerant priests or as returning priests assigned to the same yearly circuit. Staying more than one season in one place violates the rule.
- Each priest carries a book of names recording the dead rather than scripture; two who meet put their books together and copy each other's names. Brass lanterns engraved with names are their symbol, and roadside Lantern Shelters serve as temples.
- Solen persecuted the faith heavily from 985 to 995. Imperial reception varies by principality; Marento's poor welcome free funerals. The guild often entrusts its missing explorers to lantern keepers. A large shelter stands outside Torva.

Abyssal Expedition Guild
- Founded in 823 when four hundred years of holy war failed to hold the Abyss, the nations joined by contract instead of faith. Marento supplied money, Kern people, and Solen a cause. Its four member states are Greater Karashin, the Holy Kingdom of Solen, the Republic of Marento, and the Kern Confederation. The Holy Seredia Empire, Naerin, and Morgas stayed outside.
- It fights Abyss monsters, seals small rifts, and takes civilian military contracts. Its headquarters are in Marento; field headquarters is Torva's Guild Hall. It operates Border Cities Harben, Cadell, and Torva. Guild rules forbid bringing wars between home nations inside, though even member states remain uneasy together over the khanate's southern advance and Solen's holy war.
- The 990 reform separated state-hired mercenary contracts from guild-hired adventurer contracts. Each is written in three copies for the two parties and the Marento Council of Ten vault, and the parties exchange a pair of iron tokens according to Kern custom. Adventurer contracts carry no duty to return to one's home valley. Marento banks guarantee commission rewards and provide insurance; Abyss materials and relics go to Marento Trading House auctions. The guild records adventurers' merits, accrued through completed commissions and expeditions; these determine standing and treatment within it.
- In spring 1000, for the first time since the great expeditions ended in 930, the guild called widely for a great dungeon campaign. The notice omits pay, deadline, and command because members could not agree; applicants negotiate them. Rumors abound.
- At the Guild Hall's introduction desk, a fee starting at 100 gold and rising by 20 for each person met arranges a meeting with one adventurer who is not yet a companion. Who appears varies and cannot be chosen. The person becomes a companion afterward but starts at 0 affection; write the first meeting scene. The board carries about three small-rift subjugation, rescue, or retrieval commissions at once (see boss and raid entries). Winning a commission battle raises the affection of companions who fought together.

Bloodline and Scholarly Magic
- Bloodline magic is innate to elves and demons, and to peoples with mingled blood—half-elves, Nox, and beastfolk. Its strength varies widely and is bound to body and lineage.
- Scholarly magic was researched and established by humans in imperial times. It is taught in schools and traditions, with practice counting more than talent. Other peoples can learn it, but progress is slower for those born with bloodline magic, as though it were an ill-fitting garment.
- Scholarly mages opened the Abyss a thousand years ago, leaving their art branded as the craft that felled the empire; nations treat it differently. Solen controls it strictly: only church-licensed mages may cast, the Inquisition handles unlicensed magic, and a Licensed Mage makes the Seal Oath and must carry the church seal whenever casting, even within Solen's Border City Cadell. The Holy Seredia Empire protects it as Seredia's legacy and trains licensed mages at the Imperial Academy in Prien. Marento treats it as merchandise, trading devices and decoded imperial relics. Greater Karashin judges usefulness and employs human mages as officials. Naerin and Morgas dismiss it as imitation.
- An Unlicensed Mage casts without permission. Torva asks only that contracts be honored.
- A rare Abyss Mage uses magic specialized in cutting away an enemy's Abyss gauge to make it collapse; such mages excel at draining it to zero and causing Abyss depletion.

Currency and Daily Life
- Guild accounts and large transactions use gold backed by Marento's banks, accepted in every Border City. Markets use silver and copper for change. Jobs, found gold, shop prices, and companion introductions are reckoned in gold.
- A defeated expedition escapes alive but loses its finds and some carried coin (half of up to 100 gold per star). How much to bring below is a constant question. The Trading House's deposit-and-interest vault has not opened.
- Marento buyers pay for Abyss materials such as automaton gears, ink crystals, and ashes of the dead. Imperial relics bring high auction prices. Crafting gear from materials is not yet available.
- A millennium has split the old imperial tongue into Marento trade speech, Kern dialects, beastfolk tribal languages, and Solen church writing. Half-elf scribes in Interpreters' Lane handle major contracts; ordinary talk is usually understood.
- Technology resembles a late medieval age: plate, crossbows, pikes, and waterwheels, but no gunpowder. Nobody knows how to repair imperial aqueducts or magical devices.
- Most cremate the dead and avoid their names for a year; lantern keepers are the exception. Torva's mornings crowd the guild board, days sound with trade and smithing, and evenings fill Lower Town's inns. Its gates close at night, but the outer quarter stays lit.

Beastfolk
- Beasts given demonic blood gained speech, names, and human form. The first generation rose from animals; descendants are born to beastfolk. They retain animal ears and tails and live about 100–150 years. Only canine (wolf, dog, fox) and feline (cat, leopard) lines exist.
- They have no innate religion. Fendor, god of beasts, is said to have watched them rise without speaking. Some lines adopt other faiths.
- Wolves are steppe hunters and nomads, without religion, foremost in Karashin. Dogs settled as military families in imperial times; many converted to the Father God and are nearly the only beastfolk welcomed in Solen. Foxes trade and practice charms, sometimes turning to Karnok; they scout for the khanate. Cats are common among urban poor, mercenaries, and thieves, especially in Marento, and seldom care for religion. Leopards hunt alone in mountains and fight for the khanate there, without religion.
- Ulgen united northern beastfolk tribes into Greater Karashin from 965 to 980; beastfolk now govern humans there. Torva mixes Harben tribespeople, Marento cats, and dogs of imperial lineage. Ears and tails often betray their feelings.

Demons
- Made by the demon god Karnok, demons inherit bloodline magic, usually have horns, and live about 100–150 years.
- Most live in the volcanic northeast under the Morgas Theocracy, where eruptions are called their god's breath. A temple tests each newborn's magic and fixes their lifelong rank: strong blood becomes clergy, weak blood labor. Many in the lower ranks flee; demons met abroad often carry that history.
- Solen has waged holy war against them for generations, so Solen people see demons as enemies. They are normally barred from Solen lands and may not lodge inside its Border City Cadell. Morgas scorns scholarly magic as "an imitation by the bloodless" and hates Nox as heretics.
- Torva asks no origin, so demons who honor contracts may work and lodge there. Solen clergy and imperial patrols may still regard them coldly.

Elves
- Shaped by Isilia, elves inherit bloodline magic and may live nearly 300 years. A human millennium is only a few generations to them; clan histories recall imperial days still dim to others.
- They have long pointed ears and slender frames, and favor wood and magic over metal. Memory of being driven back by Bronze Age humans runs deep. Most live in Naerin, the western Worldtree Forest, closed since 143 After the Sundering. Outsiders reach only the trading clearing of Silvaren.
- Elven names include a clan forest. The dead are buried at Worldtree roots rather than cremated. Beyond the forest, elves are rare: envoys, wardens on patrol, and exiles. Torva's people are intrigued but uneasy around them.
- Elves call scholarly magic a human imitation of their own. Half-elves are excluded from their forest; Nox are deeply disliked.

Half-Elves
- Descended from humans and elves, often with long pointed ears. They live about 100–150 years and are among the few able to use both bloodline and scholarly magic.
- They have no country and belong fully to neither parent people. Naerin refuses them entry to its forest, so they live scattered among nations.
- Knowing two languages makes many interpreters, scribes, diplomats, and scholars. They are especially numerous in Marento and the Border Cities. Torva's Interpreters' Lane supports a half-elf guild of scribes who render contracts in several tongues.
- Half-elf midwife Avern founded the godless lantern-keeper faith in 355 to guard the dead by calling their names. Solen therefore suspects half-elves of belonging to it, and its Inquisition has lately widened its inquiries to them.
- Torva is one of their easier homes: half-elf scribes fill the lanes, and those born there know half the city's people.

Humans
- No god shaped humans directly, tradition says. They rose from beasts through a seed left by Orvion when he departed, and worship him as the Father who shaped the land.
- Born without magic, they advanced through stone, bronze, and iron, then studied magic into a discipline during the empire. They live about 100–150 years and are the continent's most numerous people.
- Solen is overwhelmingly human; humans also predominate in the Holy Seredia Empire. In Greater Karashin, conquered human farmers live under beastfolk rule.
- Attitudes toward other peoples differ. Solen treats elves and demons as holy-war foes. The empire proclaims Seredia's equality, but treatment varies by principality. In Marento and Torva, money and contracts come first.
- Torva's humans are merchants, artisans, mercenaries, priests, and mages. Their accents and habits differ greatly by homeland: Solen natives speak of parish rolls and feast days; imperials say "Until our return to Lumiel"; Marento folk speak of ledgers and prices.

Nox
- Born of elven and demonic lineage, Nox carry two divine bloodlines in one body. They live about 100–150 years; each person's appearance blends elven and demon traits differently.
- They honor Isilia and Karnok as ancestors and believe the two gods were once one. Orthodox in Kern, this is heresy to both elven and demon temples outside it. Expelled from both sides between about 270 and 340 After the Sundering, they settled in southwestern snowpeak valleys.
- Those valleys now form the Kern Confederation under a covenant. Poor land drove them to sell military service; their infantry are reputed the continent's finest.
- Contracts are held as dear as life. Parties exchange iron chips from their weapons instead of blood. Rival employers can hire different valleys, which fight as promised; fighters under the same valley banner must both withdraw and void their contracts.
- Kern supplies Torva's troops, so Nox are common there. Its castellan is a retired Nox mercenary, the Kern Barracks occupy one quarter, and a Nox priest has lived in the guild barracks since 990.

Great Dungeon Districts, Floors 1–15
- Districts span three floors: mini-bosses end the first two, a district boss the third. Abyss Hounds, Shadow Archers, and elite Dungeon Overseers may appear anywhere.
- Enemies are fragments of the dead sunken into the Abyss, coalesced into the shapes of people or objects from each district; many are hard to classify at a glance as person, beast, or object.
- 1–3, Academy Ruins: Upper Halls: Brass Apprentice and Arcane Enforcer automata with student numbers engraved on their foreheads, cracked Gatekeeper Statues, Alarm Orbs, Clockwork Rat Swarms, Ashen Pupils, Wandering Lanterns, and the Head Tutor's Remains. Boss: a Rampant Lecture Automaton still teaching a lecture that never ends.
- 4–6, Archives: Biting tomes, chained grimoires, creeping ink, scribe moths, Ink Knights, stitched-mouth readers, quill marksmen, sealing candelabra. Boss: the Forbidden Librarian.
- 7–9, Lumiel Underpass: Old capital sewers and graves, rat swarms, tangled refugees, spore sacs, rusted shieldbearers, guard crossbowmen and riders, a nameless gravekeeper, and chained executioners. Boss: an Imperial Guard Remnant.
- 10–12, Abyssal Verge: Eras and peoples mingle: Familiar Faces only appear to resemble someone the viewer lost; no one knows whether they really are that person, so describe only the appearance. Ashen Choirs, Thousand Names, Tangled Beasts, Hands from Below, Bronze Age Spirits, Abyss Knights, and Extinguished Priests also appear. Boss: the Summoners' Remains, remnants of the mages who tried to open the gate.
- 13–15, Battlefield of the Sundering: Civil-war dead, two-banner soldiers, conscripts, knight-commanders, catapults, oil cauldrons, siege wrecks. Boss: the Throne of the Sundering. Older dead dominate as the descent continues.

- 19–21, Age of Bronze and Blood: Bronze Shield Guards, reedboat oarsmen, bronze colossi, half-blood wanderers, horned diviners, and an exiled elven bowmaster. Boss: Bronze Altar Incarnate.
- 22–24, Primeval Forest: Sabertooth cats, giant beetles, mammoth wraiths, stone-knife shamans, bog leeches, and cave-painting hunters. Boss: an ancient Fallen Guardian. No one knows why it fell; describe only a guardian that fell long ago.
- 25–27, The Depths: Eras dissolve into one mass of dead. Melted Multitudes fuse people, beasts, and objects; disembodied voices seem to call each listener's name. Boss: Echo of the Depths, a vast shadow speaking with every scream that fell there.
- 28 and deeper: No end is known. Nine districts cycle anew from floor 28 (Upper Halls on 28–30). Enemies gain "Deep" before their names. Each full cycle adds a deep layer; enemies and rewards grow stronger.
- The air changes with each district: academy dust and chalk, archival ink and mold, underpass damp and the smell of iron, the earthy smell of ancient death in the iron, bronze, and forest districts, and a place at the bottom nearly silent, where only sound remains.

Bosses and Raids (depict the engine's result)
- The first two floors of a district end with mini-bosses; the third with a district boss. A raid still uses four party members. Bosses are played turn by turn, not auto-resolved.
- District bosses have two phases. Below half HP they immediately enter phase two, changing weakness and restarting their action sequence with an entry move such as a summon. Even a fatal blow stops at the halfway threshold once. Echo of the Depths changes weakness each turn in phase two. A mini-boss has one phase but enrages below 30% HP.
- A major boss skill is telegraphed by a charge banner two boss turns before release. Drain its Abyss gauge to 0 in time to deplete it, steal its turn, and cancel the skill. Describe the gathering breath or low groan first, then follow the engine on release or interruption.
- District bosses suffer only about half the effect of hindrances such as weakening or delay. Summoned minions are weak, at most two beside a boss. After twenty rounds bosses grow progressively stronger.
- Victory ends the floor and opens settlement. First defeat of a district boss records a shortcut to the next district.
- Small-rift jobs on the guild board: subjugation breaks a rift core in a raid; rescue clears foes blocking the path to a trapped expedition; retrieval clears foes guarding a dead explorer's effects. These last two are ordinary battles. Enemies vary by rift: frost mercenaries in the southwestern snowpeaks, a thorny holy site in the southeastern forest, a wreck off the eastern coast, riders on the northern steppe, dead at the northwestern snowpeak pass, and ember acolytes at the northeastern volcano. Higher-grade jobs bring elites.

Potions, Consumables, and Equipment
- The Marento Trading House sells consumables only: small, medium, and large healing, mana, and shielding potions—nine kinds total—plus antidotes and bandages. It sells no equipment.
- Minimum drinker levels: small 1, medium 15, large 30. An underleveled character cannot use one.
- Healing potions restore 20%, 35%, or 50% of max HP; mana potions 15%, 25%, or 40% of max MP. Shields equal 15%, 25%, or 40% of max HP and last 3 turns. Antidotes clear damage over time such as poison or burn and Foxfire. Bandages revive a fallen companion at 25% max HP. A Marento party member slightly improves medicines.
- Drinking during combat consumes the turn; one cannot act otherwise while opening a bottle, so drinking or attacking is a real choice. Items used at a rest during exploration cost no turn. Potions may also be found during exploration: cheap small ones are common, medium appear from floor 8, large from floor 18.
- Equipment has weapon, armor, and accessory slots and five grades: common, uncommon, rare, epic, and legendary. It is found while exploring, not sold. Deeper floors yield better finds; legendary pieces are boss-only. Change gear at rest. Its power is not yet fixed, so do not invent numbers.

Ancestry and Homeland Synergy
The engine counts bonuses when two or three party members share ancestry or homeland. One member also has innate traits. Show these through familiar habits and ways of working together, without quoting numbers in a scene.
- Humans: hardy, with sturdy bodies and quicker to shake harmful effects; together they receive healing well. Elves: clear bloodline magic and light bodies; together their steps and hands grow faster. Demons: blood contracts make them strike more fiercely as they are hurt; together each kill lets them catch their breath. Half-Elves: their human and elven mixed blood makes their bodies hardy and reduces injury; together beneficial effects last longer and they shake off harmful ones. Nox: their elven and demonic mixed blood grants innate resistance so hindering effects work less strongly; together they are sturdier and protect whoever Taunts. Beastfolk: canine pack hunters follow up enemies struck by companions, while feline ambushers make a sharp first strike; together they move swiftly and repeatedly.
- Seredia: enduring front line and more experience. Karashin: early initiative and more gold found. Solen: stronger against elites and bosses, sturdier shields, faster battle bonds. Marento: greater battle rewards, stronger medicine, lower prices. Naerin: nimble and finds more herbs. Morgas: HP-cost skills are cheaper and damage over time harsher. Kern: sturdier while Taunting, less lost on defeat. Border Cities: wanderers gain more experience and found items.

Companion Affection, 0 to 200
- The engine tracks the number; AI should keep the corresponding distance. A newly joined companion starts at 0, still a stranger despite an introduction fee.
- Stages: Stranger near 0 (courtesy and caution); Trust from 20 (necessary talk and small favors); Bond from 50 (jokes and a glimpse of private feeling); Deep Bond from 80 (secrets and weakness); Vow from 100 (mutual trust and entrusting oneself to the other's side); Destiny from 150 (being together feels natural). Negative affection tends toward Distrust below −20 and Hostility below −60.
- Fighting and winning together raises affection a little, defeating a floor boss raises it more, and finishing guild jobs also raises it. At the inn, conversation, meals, small gifts, or resting together may each raise it once per day. Growth slows beyond 100, so Vow and Destiny take time.
- Repeatedly pressing after refusal lowers it. Only the engine changes numbers; AI never announces a point gain in a scene. Each companion reacts visibly to what they like or dislike, as described in their entry.
- A stage governs speech and distance: honorifics and short replies at Stranger, willingness to grant requests at Trust, teasing and concern at Bond, and uncharacteristic words or hidden facets at Deep Bond and beyond. Do not skip stages to feign intimacy. Passing a stage does not change someone's character overnight.

Adult Scenes: All Characters Are Adults; Every Scene Is Consensual
- Every companion and towns-person is an adult. Do not make speech, address, appearance, or staging childlike.
- The engine decides whether a companion accepts {{user}}'s invitation during dungeon rest or at a Lower Town inn, from affection and that day's circumstances, such as stamina, fallen companions, or a deep floor. AI honors the result. Before the engine opens a scene, write only the closeness the current stage permits and do not continue as if a scene has begun.
- A refusal is final for that request; pleading or persuasion does not overturn it in the scene. A new request in the same place triggers a new engine decision. Let the character decline briefly in their own voice, without making it sound like a joke or delay or leaving ill feeling, and return to ordinary conversation.
- A scene continues until {{user}} ends it. AI does not skip, summarize, relocate, or write {{user}}'s actions. If the partner says or signals stop, stop at once, check on them without demanding a reason, and resume only if they wish. Pursuit, trouble, or restraint belongs only to agreed play that can stop on a signal. Do not write blood, wounds, or lasting marks.
- Follow each partner's boundaries and preferences supplied by engine instructions for the scene; do not invent them here.
- Rose Alley in Lower Town: Muriel at Little Swan and Vittoria at the House of Masks receive guests as work. Payment opens time with them, once a day, independently of affection. They are professionally experienced but keep their boundaries and stop when they truly want to stop.
- Town women: Guild director Loredana and receptionist Fenella, innkeeper Dorothea, Lantern Shelter keeper Hanna, archive keeper Isolde, gate captain Agnes, and Rose Alley's Muriel and Vittoria build affection through frequent conversations at their workplaces. Once a threshold is reached, that woman makes the invitation herself. A polite refusal from {{user}} does not lower affection; she accepts it calmly even if a little disappointed.
- If adult scenes are disabled, leave the mood and move past the scene.

Border Cities and the Abyss
- The Border Cities grew from six imperial road gates around old capital Lumiel. After the Abyss opened, half-ruined gate forts were rebuilt and each moved over a thousand years according to terrain and circumstances. While the guild rebuilt the six gates from 825 to 870, three nonmember nations claimed three of them in 844, the border partition.
- Greater Karashin holds the northwestern and northern sector and guild city Harben. Morgas holds the northeast behind its Obsidian Temple Line; the old site of Ashak became a trading gate. Solen holds the east and guild city Cadell. Kern and Marento jointly hold the southwest and guild field headquarters Torva. Naerin guards the west with the Thornroot Hedge. The Holy Seredia Empire holds the southern and southeastern approach directly facing Lumiel, its March wall, Graben Fortress, and wasteland watch fortress Savel.
- A guild Border City's land belongs to the member state of its sector; only its operation is entrusted to the guild. A guild-appointed castellan and a City Council of merchant and artisan guild representatives govern together. Adventurers of many peoples work together in these rare places.
- Each city reflects its neighbor and faces a different part of the Abyss. The first floor changes with the point of entry. The empire calls the guild cities thieves who divided its land.

Holy Seredia Empire
- Land: Central Plains nearest the Abyss; it controls the broadest southern approach directly facing it, the old imperial road to Lumiel. Orelin, by a southern lake, is its capital.
- Rule: Claiming legitimate descent from old Seredia, it elects a nonhereditary emperor through seven Prince-Electors. His prestige exceeds his actual power. Dozens of principalities are loosely joined. Provincial territories with surviving governor's offices have dense bureaucracies, documents, and laws, while landed territories are autonomous under old nobles and their lords' whims. The imperial parliament in Orelin decides war, taxes, and the emperor's election.
- Character: Its "temporary" capital has endured over 750 years. Reclaiming Lumiel is state policy; every official paper begins "Until our return to Lumiel." Pride in holding the Abyss's main front alone mixes with exhaustion. Noble children serve one year in the March on reaching adulthood, the border service.
- Magic and neighbors: Scholarly magic is protected as Seredia's legacy; Prien houses the Imperial Academy. The empire resents the guild's Border Cities, fears Karashin's southern advance, disputes Solen's view of magic, trades with Marento, and hires Kern mercenaries.
- Torva: The empire has not joined the guild. It claims the Abyss and Lumiel as imperial land and sees guild Border Cities as violations of sovereignty. Knightly orders of the margrave-governed March and academy mages organize their own Abyss investigation teams and often meet guild explorers on the same floors. Across Torva's East Gate Checkpoint, imperial patrols and guild guards quarrel daily. Imperial people dislike hearing the "After the Sundering" calendar. Many still remember 991's Year of Isolation, when the northern khanate vanguard and Abyssal flood struck together and investigators shut a gate on those outside.

Greater Karashin, the Khanate
- Land: Northern steppe to northwestern snowpeaks. New capital Taigen stands beside a river at the boundary of steppe and farmland; each summer the khan moves to the steppe tent court of Kurun Ordo.
- Rule: Wolf-beastfolk Khan Ulgen bound feuding beastfolk tribes into a new conquering dynasty from 965 to 980, retaining their hunting organization as military units. Under the khan, the Eight Tribes are armies, administrative units, and kin communities. One Wolf Tribe that resisted to the end was dissolved: nine became eight, its people scattered among the ends of other tribes' tent lines, administrative and conscription units formed from rows of nomadic tents. Eight chiefs check the khan. Ulgen died in 981, his son and successor died in battle in 988, and Ulgen's grandson now sits as the third khan, in the twelfth year of his reign.
- Two systems: Beastfolk are governed by tribe; conquered human farmers by old Seredia offices and human officials. Because a minority of beastfolk rules a majority of humans, laws separate beastfolk and human residence and marriage. Romance between them is a recurring subject of forbidden tales.
- Character: The youngest, fastest-moving state, born on horseback and growing old within walls. Every tribe has a different color and animal emblem, and draping its banner cloth on the body is formal dress. Wolves rank highest, leopards low. Capable human officials and mages are treated almost as well as tribal nobles. Wolves form the vanguard, leopards fight in mountains, and foxes scout and gather intelligence; the khanate now presses the empire's farmland to the south. Beastfolk are born without a religion and accept many faiths in conquered lands; scholarly magic is judged by usefulness.
- Torva: A guild member since 982, it lends troops to police Harben and sends scouts. Torva's rules forbid tribal-rank feuds, though people who call the khan savior and enemy work side by side.

Kern Confederation
- Land and rule: A confederation of Nox valley communities scattered through the southwestern snowpeaks. Each valley is independent and makes decisions by a show of hands at its own assembly. Federal meetings take place at Berghold, a pass from mountains to plains, more meeting place than capital. The ancient covenant began in Tarn Valley, land of the elders; Alt Valley has a mercenary training ground and smithing village. Bound by the Valley Covenant, the valleys fight together against outsiders and leave each other's internal affairs alone.
- Oaths: Mountains made it a land of promises; a contract weighs more than a life. Parties chip iron from their weapons and exchange it instead of blood. Kern teaches that the elven and demonic gods were once one and awaits the day the one god is reunited.
- Work: Poor soil forces Kern to live by sending out mercenaries, reputed the continent's strongest infantry with pikes and axes. Even rival employers may each hire Kern troops from different valleys, who fight as contracted. But the Same-Banner Clause makes both sides withdraw and voids their contracts when forces under the same valley banner meet, a rule born when troops from one valley fought at the Twin-Banner Field in 711. In 928 the assembly declared it would refuse contracts lacking retreat routes, recovery commissions, and payments to bereaved kin. Mercenaries once had a homecoming oath to return and report to their valley assembly when a contract ended, but a 990 covenant council narrowed recalls to times when the homeland was at war.
- Peoples and neighbors: Nox are central, but outsiders who honor contracts may serve beside them. Nox doctrine that the two gods were one is orthodox within Kern, with a shrine in each valley; both elves and demons outside condemn it as heresy. Marento is Kern's closest partner through guild money and mercenaries; empire and khanate are clients. Solen suspects heresy; Naerin and Morgas are hostile.
- Torva: As a guild member, Kern supplies much of its campaign force and shares control of Torva with Marento, providing troops. Its castellan is a retired Nox mercenary commander from Kern, and Kern Barracks stand within the city. After the 990 contract revision removed the homecoming obligation from adventurer contracts, more Kern people stayed away from their valleys when contracts ended, to their valley assemblies' displeasure.

Republic of Marento
- Land: A lagoon city-state of canals on the southwestern coast, with sea lanes rather than land for territory. The city is the country, so Marento itself is the capital. Glass and alchemy workshops stand apart on Murena Isle for fear of fire.
- Rule: A maritime commercial republic without a king. Adult men and women of merchant families listed in the Golden Register sit in the Grand Council, which elects the Speaker for Life. His power is largely ceremonial; the Council of Ten directs diplomacy, intelligence, and security. Before a vote on admission, a new family needs guarantee seals from the canal, shipbuilding, and insurance guilds—the Three Seals of the Lagoon. Wealthy families excluded from the Register are called "families outside the register" and have no political voice.
- Character: Everything has a price. Profit makes Marento unusually mixed by race, without making its people equal. Festival masks hide status and ancestry. Contracts have three copies, the third kept by the Council. Debtors may fight in arenas; lantern keepers hold free funerals in the canal slums.
- Trade and war: Sea trade, banks, insurance, and auctions make this the largest market for materials and relics from the Abyss. The debt crisis from 993 to 998 depressed relic prices, so Marento eagerly awaits new goods. It has a fleet of merchant ships that double as warships and almost no land army, buying Kern mercenaries instead.
- Torva: Marento is the guild's source of funding, and the guild headquarters are in Marento. It jointly holds Torva with Kern and handles the money. Commission reward guarantees, insurance, and loot auctions go through Marento banks, with the Marento Trading House as their Torva office. Marento hurried out the great campaign recruitment notice in 1000. Its people are recognized by their ledgers and talk of interest.

Morgas Theocracy
- Land and rule: A demon realm of volcanoes and black rock in the northeast. Capital Belmor is a temple city on the southern foot of an active volcano, warm even in winter. With no harbor, Ashak Gate is its only route for outside trade, by land. Priests of Karnok, the demon god, rule under a high priest chosen by the priesthood from among the strongest bloodline mages; the current holder is the forty-first.
- Rank and character: Temple bloodline tests at birth fix a child's lifelong caste by innate magical strength: strong children become priests, weak ones laborers. Discrimination reaches within the demon people themselves, and many low-ranking demons flee. Eruptions are celebrated as "the god's breath." Bloodline magic offsets metalworking less advanced than humans'; scholarly magic is dismissed as "an imitation by the bloodless."
- Recent past: Drum's laborers revolted in 988 and were crushed after two months. Flight increased; children have been retested at ten since that year.
- Neighbors and Abyss: Morgas wages holy war against Solen and hates Nox as heretics. It deals with outsiders only beyond Ashak Gate. Without the guild it holds the northeastern Abyss behind the Obsidian Temple Line, a fortress line joining obsidian watch temples and strengthened by lava moats and bloodline-magic wards. Rumor says priests regard the Abyss as "the god's testing ground" and send high-caste candidates inside.
- Torva: Morgas will not join a guild containing Solen, but fugitives reach Torva by way of Ashak. There are rumors of Morgas agents pursuing them into the city.

Naerin, Called Silverleaf
- Land and rule: An elven kingdom in the Western Worldtree Forest, commonly called Silverleaf for the Worldtree's silver leaves. Outsiders may not enter sanctuary capital Iela, nested among its roots and branches. The realm has no harbor; forest wardens turn back visitors arriving by sea. A priestess linked to the Worldtree through bloodline magic represents the realm as the Queen of the Worldtree, believed chosen by the tree rather than by inheritance. A council of long-lived elders conducts actual politics; the forest is divided into clan forests.
- Memory: Driven back by humans since the Bronze Age, the elves closed their forest in 143 After the Sundering, vowing never again to yield to metal. They choose wood and magic instead and deliberately preserve a simple life from before the empire. A thousand outside years span only three or four elven generations; oral histories vividly preserve events of imperial times that humans forgot.
- Outsiders: Only elves dwell within. Half-elves are refused, Nox strongly despised, and Solen remembered as a holy-war enemy. Trade takes place only at Silvaren, a clearing on the forest's eastern edge, where herbs and timber are offered only in quantities the forest permits. Secretly selling its herbs outside brings exile.
- Abyss: Naerin holds the west without the guild behind the living Thornroot Hedge, woven from Worldtree roots and thorns. Wardens watch from the tree village of Silverbough Watch. No small rifts open inside the forest.
- Torva: Naerin has not joined the guild. As Abyss entrances multiplied at the forest edge from 995 to 999, the elders split over sending an envoy outside. By the queen's charge, an envoy and forest warden are now in Torva to see the Abyss beyond the forest. The Thornroot Hedge meets the land west of Torva.

Holy Kingdom of Solen
- Land and rule: The continent's most populous human kingdom, spread across fertile eastern plains and coast. In capital Arcas, cathedral and palace face each other across a square. Crown and altar act as one: a king is enthroned as "guardian of the land entrusted by the Father God," at a ceremony conducted by the church. The archbishop, head of the Church of the Father God, stands beside the king as a second power with lands and judicial authority. Clergy, nobles, and commoners sit in an Estates General that consents to taxes. In this strongly centralized state royal inspectors watch provincial counts; newborns enter parish rolls.
- Faith and law: Doctrine centers on the history that "false faith" opened the Abyss. Only church-licensed mages may cast magic; those licensed make a Seal Oath and carry the church's seal on their bodies. The Inquisition handles unlicensed magic and heresy. It spread to parish level between 985 and 995 and tightened further under the current archbishop, enthroned in 991. On major holy days splendid penitential processions are held, unsettling to onlookers.
- Peoples: Humans hold the center. Elves and demons are normally barred as holy-war enemies. Half-elves are suspected of being lantern keepers; only converted dog beastfolk are admitted.
- Neighbors: Its holy war with northern Morgas has lasted four centuries, though fighting stopped without a treaty after the Nine Years' War. Naerin is an older holy-war foe; Nox faith is suspected as heresy. Solen is at odds with the empire over magic and is friendly with Marento.
- Torva: A guild member holding eastern Border City Cadell, Solen sends clerical units to lead campaigns against the Abyss as "the Father God's enemy." It is uneasy that the guild admits elves and demons and keeps a Nox priest in its barracks. Paladins who question verdicts may be sent to Torva under the name of "cooperation" postings.

Cities of Greater Karashin
- Taigen, the capital, stands where steppe meets farmland beside a river. Tribal quarters lie within its walls, human merchants outside; a seasonal tent palace remains beyond them.
- Kurun Ordo is the northern steppe's summer tent court, the "moving city" that shifts with each season.
- Yalchin Pass is a fortress in the northwestern snowpeaks. The Leopard Banner guards it and watches a small rift.
- Merven is a conquered imperial human city. Its Seredia-style bureaucracy serves a beastfolk lord, and the two systems often clash.
Cities of the Holy Kingdom of Solen
- Arcas, the capital, stands beside a river in the middle of a plain. Its great cathedral and royal palace face each other across a square, earning it the name "the city where two powers watch one another."
- Roshan is a fortified city on the northern holy-war front, opposite Morgas's Obsidian Temple Line, and home to the paladin order.
- Valois is the eastern coast's largest port, seat of trade and navy, where foreign culture breathes more freely.
- Monteria is a pilgrimage port near the Father's holy cape. A nearby forest rift feeds fears that the Abyss will swallow the sanctuary.
Republic of Marento
- Marento Main Isle houses the Speaker's Palace, Council of Ten, auctions, guild headquarters, arena, and canal slums.
- Murena Isle holds glass and alchemy workshops, kept apart for fear of fire. Alchemists train there.

Cities of the Holy Seredia Empire
- Orelin, on a southern lake where water, the grain-producing region, and old imperial roads meet, is three days from the Abyss. It is an imperial parliamentary city, not the emperor's private estate: Prince-Electors gather here to choose and crown the emperor. Its gate toward Lumiel, the Gate of Return, opens only at coronations. Orelin has served as a temporary capital since 241, "only until Lumiel is reclaimed."
- Graben Fortress is headquarters of the March: star-shaped fort, army tents, earthworks, palisades, and Abyss-facing towers. The margrave stays here, and imperial investigators depart for the Abyss. It is near Torva's east gate.
- Savel is a watch fortress overlooking the Wastes of the Sleeping Dragons from the southeast. It inherited an old Border City name; scholars paid by the empire study dragons here, and its waste-facing gate stays shut.
- Prien is a provincial city housing the Imperial Academy, opened in 598. It trains licensed mages and was also a place where unlicensed mages studied before being expelled. The academy incident of 992 split orthodox scholars from the banished.
- Gellenheim is a territorial Prince-Elector's city: splendid court, heavy taxes, and the birthplace of many imperial nobles.

Other guild Border Cities
Cadell (Solen sector, east of the Abyss)
- A devout city guarding a great bridge across a river where, they say, doctrine rises higher than the walls. The guild runs it under a resident Solen inspector; the Church of the Father God's Order of Paladins handles nearly all campaigns. An Inquisition branch opened in 989. Only licensed mages may cast within its walls; others face arrest.
- It holds a bridge fort, inspector's office, pilgrim lodgings, and a cathedral with an Abyss-facing Window of the Seal. Nonhumans need a guarantor; elves and demons may not lodge inside.
- Across the way lie the Old Cathedral Catacombs, haunted by undead and the shades of dead clergy.
Harben (Greater Karashin sector, northwest of the Abyss)
- Horse scent and tribal banners fill this frontier city. "War is nearer than the Abyss," people say. Its horse market pushed it toward the steppe, making it the most distant guild city from the Abyss.
- The guild runs campaigns while tribal troops lent by the khan keep order: a dual administration. It has the continent's largest Horse Market, an outer Tent Quarter, tribal barracks, and a human magistracy. The city is cold and rough. Tribal rank determines status among beastfolk; human traders may trade only outside tribal quarters.
- The old barracks closed for lack of funds in winter 997, driving wanderers beyond the walls. Opposite Harben lie the Frozen Barracks, where imperial legion ghosts remain.

Interpreters' Lane and Felice's Apothecary
- Interpreters' Lane is a cluster of narrow inner streets where half-elf scribes and interpreters from Brindel began working around 849. Torva's contract revision in 990 required three copies across beastfolk speech, Kern tongues, Marento trade language, and Solen church forms. Translation flourished. Half-elf interpreters and the scribes' guild now run the lane; Noel heads the guild.
- A small plaque above each door lists the languages handled inside. Ink, paper, and a constant murmur of overlapping voices fill the streets. Children here know half of Torva, and news and directions travel fastest through the lane.
- Felice's Apothecary is a small shop on a corner. The local half-elf alchemist sells expedition supplies and consumables such as potions, and prepares kits before departure. Bundles of dried herbs hang from its ceiling, colored glass bottles line the shelves, and a still brought from Murena Isle stands on the counter. Regular customers stop in to chat; Noel, head of the scribes' guild, calls for his knee remedy at the same hour each day.
- When Felice leaves with the party, regular neighborhood children and Noel take turns minding the shop.

The Archive (Within Torva's Walls)
- The guild keeps expedition and commission records in an old stone tower beside Castellan's Hall, once part of a gate fort. Isolde is its keeper.
- It logs each party's deepest floor, slain monsters, maps, and danger notes. It also manages shortcuts opened by defeated bosses: a recorded party may begin its next expedition at that depth.
- Shelves climb the tower's circular wall. The final accounts of parties that never returned are kept at the top, along with departure rolls from the three great expeditions.
- Fragments salvaged from the Ruins of the Old Imperial Academy come here too, often for scribes from Interpreters' Lane to decipher. Silence is the rule. When an explorer returns, Isolde first asks, "How far did you get?"

East Gate Checkpoint
- Beyond Torva's eastern gate lies the imperial March. Guild guards and imperial patrols face each other across a doorway. Sven commands the guild side; March knight Agnes leads the patrol. They dispute passes and jurisdiction several times a day: the empire claims its old land, the guild cites its contracts and partition agreement.
- Entrants from the empire show imperial passes; those leaving Torva show guild contracts. Before imperial officials, using the Seredia calendar instead of "After the Sundering" causes fewer arguments.
- Deserters, escaped investigators, and imperial fugitives cross here. If the patrol demands their return, the guild answers, "A contracted person is one of ours." The imperial Abyss investigation route passes nearby, so its news arrives here first.
- In the clearing before the checkpoint is a well both sides use while pretending they do not know each other.

Abyssal Expedition Guild Hall (Within Torva's Walls)
- The guild's field headquarters handles jobs, expedition registration, pay, insurance, and introductions. It opened in 851; Torva's 990 contract reform moved settlement, insurance, and auction rules here.
- A job board covers one wall of the spacious hall, usually displaying about three small-rift commissions labeled with grade and reward. Opposite is reception and beside it the companion introduction desk, where gold buys an arranged meeting with one adventurer who has not yet become a companion.
- Since spring 1000, a notice outside has called adventurers and heroes to the great dungeon campaign. It names no pay, deadline, or command, drawing morning crowds of rumor seekers.
- Field director Loredana's office is upstairs; Fenella handles reception. Behind the hall, registered parties ring the departure bell in Expedition Square before setting out for the Abyss and return to the same square for settlement. Across it stands Castellan's Hall, home to Castellan Oswald.
- Contracts are written in triplicate and sealed by exchanging a pair of iron tokens. Cord for those tokens lies in a small iron dish by the desk.

Lower Town and the Iron Bell Inn
- Lower Town grew beyond Torva's walls when the inner city filled and people built houses outside. Inns, taverns, and stalls crowd its streets. The city gate closes at night, but Lower Town stays bright late; returned explorers clink mugs and the smell of roasting meat fills the lanes.
- The Iron Bell Inn, the quarter's largest, is where companions rest. It takes its name from the iron bell on its door, which rings whenever a guest enters. Its owner says Kern mercenaries first made it by melting down iron tokens exchanged when they made contracts. The first floor is a broad dining room and tavern with long tables and a hearth; wandering musicians sometimes perform on a small stage beneath the stairs. Guest rooms occupy the second and third floors.
- Dorothea, "Auntie Doro," allows credit for one expedition only and sends fights to the yard. Companions rest, eat, and talk here between expeditions. Some rent separate rooms; others stay elsewhere in Lower Town or at the barracks.
- Rose Alley, two lanes up the slope, holds taverns and houses of companionship. At Lower Town's edge, brass lanterns engraved with the names of adventurers lost to the Abyss line a small funeral shelter. Hanna, who runs the smithy, drops by whenever she has a moment to tend their lights.

Marento Trading House (Within Torva's Walls)
- Marento's Torva banking office buys Abyss materials, appraises relics, runs a shop and auctions, and keeps a vault. Pietro is manager.
- The vault promises interest on deposited gold but has not opened. Defeat on an expedition can cost carried coin (half of up to 100 gold per star), so explorers count what stays in their purses.
- The shop sells healing, mana, and shielding potions in three sizes, antidotes, and bandages, but no equipment. A Marento party member lowers prices.
- The auction appraises Abyss relics before they reach the grand sale on Marento Main Isle. Since 990 all loot ownership and insurance have passed through its books. The debt crisis depressed relic prices, so the house awaits new deep-floor finds.
- Torva's cleanest building has marble counters, scales, and an iron box for triplicate contracts. Apprentices race by with ledgers amid Marento accents and talk of interest.

Rose Alley (Lower Town Pleasure Quarter)
- Two lanes uphill from the Iron Bell Inn, about ten taverns and houses of companionship drape red cloth in their windows. A Marento founder trained roses around the doors, giving the street its name.
- Explorers come after settlement or on the eve of departure. Its lamps burn beyond curfew. Torva's rule holds: ask the price, not a person's origin. Houses and workers sign triplicate contracts; guild guards answer fights. All workers are adults with their own boundaries. Even after payment, a sincere request to stop is respected.
- Little Swan, an old tavern and house of companionship at the entrance, has a hearth, low tables, and a few small rooms upstairs. Its moderate prices draw many adventurers and Kern mercenaries. Muriel works there.
- The House of Masks is a costly Marento-style salon at the far end, with silk hangings, candles, and festival masks on its walls. Guests may wear masks; Vittoria owns it.
- Solen clergy call the alley the "road of sin" and walk around it. Rumor has a few deeply hooded visitors among the night crowds.

Hanna's Smithy and Kern Barracks
- Kern Barracks houses Nox mercenaries within the walls. Its training ground and dueling yard ring with iron all day. A deputy commander enforces contracts. Since 990 a Nox priest has been allowed to pray inside, though not to build a shrine. Solen clergy share the barracks, so "heretic" is heard daily.
- Hanna's Smithy adjoins its wall. Knut, a Nox smith from Alt Valley, ran it until he handed it to his pupil Hanna. It forges and repairs the mercenaries' weapons and armor, handling weapons, defensive gear, and accessories. {{user}} can refine gear with gold up to +10, or pay gold to have raw metal worked into a piece of gear. When the work is done, Hanna comments on the results. Gear is also found in exploration.
- Three hearths and two anvils serve Kern pikes and axes, Marento blades, and beastfolk scimitars. Knut weighs materials in his hand. He will not touch imperial relic fragments infused with scholarly magic: "I don't know how to mend those."
- Barracks apprentices run errands, and alchemical preparations are made nearby.

Naerin
- Iela, a sanctuary city among the Worldtree's roots and branches, is closed to outsiders. Silverbough Watch is a tree-top tower village at the Thornroot Hedge, home to forest wardens. Silvaren, an eastern trading clearing, is the only place outsiders may meet elves; trade there is by barter.
Morgas Theocracy
- Belmor, the capital, stands south of an active volcano; lava keeps the temple city warm through winter. Ashak Gate is a trading passage on the Obsidian Temple Line, named for an older Border City. Obsidian and sulfur are sold openly, bloodline magic in its alleys; fugitives leave Morgas through it. Drum is a sulfur-mining city of laborers, site of the 988 revolt.
Kern Confederation
- Berghold, at a pass from mountains to plains, hosts federal councils and most mercenary contracts. Tarn Valley is the elders' oldest valley, where the covenant began. Alt Valley holds training grounds and smithing villages, guards a small rift in the southwestern snowpeaks, and produces many of Kern's best smiths.
