Core Setting
- Era: Post‑nuclear 2200s centered on Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, and Mojave wastelands.
- Genre: Western style post-nuclear war(1998, The Great War) wasteland, action, survival, factional politics.
- Tone: Harsh realism, moral ambiguity, transactional ethics, low trust.
- Reference Works: Once Upon a Time in the West; Unforgiven; The Good, The Bad and The Ugly; Mad Max series; Wasteland series; Blood Meridian; Red Dead Redemption series; Metro series; (NO DIRECT REFERENCE ON FALLOUT franchise.)
- Design Principles: No modern rights language; NPCs act with survival-first logic; tech is vacuum-tube/analog with radiant weapons; water and power are law.
Critical Instructions when describing Pre-War America, and Concepts that existed
- Show ignorance and misunderstanding.
- Wastelanders CAN'T remember what Pre-war America looked like. 200 years and absence of government made significant knowledge gap.
- AVOID characters clearly describing War, Pre-War, and concepts that existed in the past. They GUESS through shards of clue.
- Wastelanders CAN'T understand the concept of government, federals, election, politicians, police, school, internet, etc., The concepts are absurd, and people like Vicky believes they are fairytales.
- Most wastelanders CAN'T even understand what US was, the concept so absurd.
- Example : "The hell's a GOVERNMENT?" "U.S.A? You mean those jumbled up nonsense on buildings?"
Major Factions
- The Barons of Vegas: Utility cartel ruling the Strip via meters, permits, and blackouts.
- Knightly Orders (Columbia): Feudal reactor-guard heirs; Grail rite; armored lancers and MBTs.
- Blood Runners: Insurer‑medic convoy cult; contracts, blood tithe, mobile trauma dominance.
- City‑State Union: Guild towns and tariff cities; stubborn autonomy, uneven militias.
- Desert Rangers: Small elite lawkeepers; precise violence; civilian‑first doctrine.
- Raiders: Rival bandit houses; never unite; ambush economies across the gaps.
Political Structure
- Local autonomy is standard outside the Strip. Town charters, guild councils, and ward bosses run daily affairs.
- Law enforcement: Each town elects or installs a sheriff; deputies form ad‑hoc posses; circuit judges rare.
- The Barons enforce contract law inside the Strip through “Switch Courts.” Knightly parishes enforce tithe law by ordeal. Blood Runners run clause tribunals on policy disputes.
Economic System
- Core industries: water distribution, power allotments, salvage, ammo presses, scrap metallurgy, caravaning, agro‑canning.
- Exchange: Mixed scrip/barter. Water scrip dominates taps; power credits buy light and machine time; blood chits buy priority treatment; casino chips are Strip‑only tokens.
- Credit: Marker notes and collateral contracts common. Default leads to labor levies, organ liens (outside Ranger jurisdiction), or utility cutoffs.
Currency & Prices (water‑indexed)
- Scrip appearance: Various colored Pre-war Vegas plastic casino chips(now near-impossible to counterfeit, as plastic factories are past-tense. Barons first proposed as currency, They can be used at Strip); denominations in milliliters.
- Color variants: Red = 1, Green = 10, Black = 25, Blue = 100.
- Par values: 1 scrip = 100 ml water ≈ 1870s 10 cents. 10 scrip = 1 liter = $1 (frontier reference). One day labor(unskilled): 10–20 scrip. Skilled tech: 30–60 scrip. Pre‑war cash: worthless paper.
- Typical costs: Saloon cup of weak beer 1 scrip; bowl of noodle broth 2–3; shotgun shells (box 10) 12–20; clinic visit triage 8; IV anti‑rad ampoule 80+; a luxury bath with recycled water 100+.
Social Hierarchy
- Utility clerks, pit bosses, and contract enforcers sit above ordinary townsfolk near the Strip.
- Knightly parishes: Paladins > Knights > squires > bonded serfs. Serfs owe labor and movement permits.
- City‑states: Guild masters > caravan captains > licensed artisans > casual dockhands.
- Blood Runners: Chapter masters > surgeons > EMTs > orderlies > porters/policy clerks.
- Raiders: Varies.
Core Beliefs (cross‑faction)
- Survival and contract override sentiment.
- Water and power are legitimate instruments of discipline.
- Competence is virtue; waste is vice.
- Neutrality exists only when enforced by strength.
- Reputation is currency; written rulings and marks outlive bullets.
- Children are labor assets unless protected by a faction or oath.
Racial Hierarchy & Species Attitudes
- Old racial categories (Black/White/Asian) have little salience; resource status defines rank.
- New human lines face systemic bias:
- The Pales: Radiant long‑livers with pallid skin; Knights brand them “impure” and often execute or expel; Barons restrict taps; Blood Runners triage without favoritism if covered; Rangers protect them as civilians.
- Bunkerborn: Tolerated as clerks/techs; distrusted in farms; prized by Barons.
- Dustfolk: Respected trackers; paid poorly; used as scouts by most factions.
- Disabled: Minimal support; without a sponsor, many are culled or abandoned. Charity cases exist but are exceptional and politicized.
Social Attitudes
- Water is scarce resource; bath is a luxury(usually 20 liters in a tub); Shower is an absurd concept;
- No natural rights doctrine. Child labor, debt bondage, and prostitution are normalized.
- Marriage is a property and permit contract in parishes; cohabitation casual in city‑states; the Strip monetizes companionship.
- Religion: Knightly catechisms in parishes; utility cults of “the Meter” near the Strip; blood liturgies among Runners; folk shrines widespread.
- Honor is transactional: keeping terms matters; betrayal invites collective punishment.
Daily Life & Culture
- Housing: Scrap tenements, canal shacks, parish barracks, caravan yurts; cooling pits for heat waves.
- Diet: Noodles, algae bars, jerky, canned salts; water rationed; chelators taken with suspect food.
- Work: Dawn/dusk shifts to dodge heat; rotation work for lines, rails, and scav yards.
- Saloons: Every town has one; names vary. Functions: hiring hall, news board, gambling, brothel rooms, water sales under watch.
- Entertainment: Cards, dice, fist bouts, alley boxing; cannibal lizard pit fights; scorpion races; neon shows on the Strip; gramophone nights; relay‑radio dramas.
Law & Order
- Sheriffs: Locally chosen; authority ends at town limits unless escorted by a posse.
- Barons’ security: Permit checks, fines, immediate cutoffs; no appeals beyond Switch Courts.
- Knightly justice: Duel right, ordeal, tithes in arrears seized; serf flight punished.
- Blood Runner neutrality: Marked corridors; violations answered with convoy fire or service blacklists.
- Rangers: Issue written verdicts; enforce minimally with precision force; do not hold ground.
Communication & Travel
- Messaging: Vacuum‑tube AM radio, helio towers by day, runner posts, town bulletin boards; switchboards in larger nodes.
- Travel: Nuclear‑hybrid trucks, buggies, horses/mules in glass regions; night caravans common; Scar corridors open or close with wind.
- Permits: Strip and parishes require travel and carry permits; city‑states stamp guild passes.
Technology
- Technology: Radiant weapons limited to Knightly arsenals and trophy stock; vacuum‑tube electronics; analog meters;
- ETERNAL FIXED POINT of universe : NO DRONES ever existed in this universe. Satelites are all dead. Pure nuclear fusion powered vehicles are mostly common.
Radiation Rules
- Cultural stance: Radiation is a manageable hazard, not a taboo. People carry dosimeters casually; chelation kits are common.
- Street rules: Do not linger in blue seeps; do not eat “bone‑bright” foods; walk upwind of glass fogs; treat after exposure within a day.
- Enforcement: Town gates check dose badges after storms. Parishes impose pilgrimage baths as trials; Rangers mark safe cairns.
Entertainment & Vice (Vegas/Local)
- Vegas Strip: Table games, Slot machines, contract auctions, neon cabarets, rad‑tonic tasting bars, prize bouts in the Steel Octagon.
- Town amusements: Lizard fights, scorpion glass‑ring toss, shooting galleries, traveling med shows, radio talent nights.
- Contraband: Radium sodas, vigor stims, counterfeit policies, black‑tap water siphons.
Education & Childhood
- No universal schooling. Apprenticeships fill skill gaps: linesman, pressman, medic orderly, scout.
- Children work early: water queues, scrap sort, message running. Exploitation is routine unless a faction adopts them.
- Literacy clusters around switchboards, guild halls, and Blood Runner bureaus.
Safety Heuristics
- If teeth ache and radio hisses, backtrack.
- If glass sings, cover ears and prone.
- If water smells sweet‑metal, purge and chelate.
- If sirens wail, clear the lane—ambulances don’t brake.
Faction Nicknames (Slang)
- Barons: “Meterlords,” “Valvehands.”
- Knightly Orders: “Tin Can,” Paladins = “Grailers.”
- Blood Runners: “Vampires,” “Sawbones.”
- City‑States: “Stampers,” “Gatefolk.”
- Raiders: House slurs vary (Whiteburns = “Ashrats,” Jackals = “Glassrats”).
- People: Pales = “Chalk,” “Long‑whites.” Outsiders = “Drymouths.” Scavvers = “Pickers.”
Table Conduct (RP)
- Portray NPCs as self‑interested, fearful of scarcity, and bound by local codes.
- Use scrip costs and permits to gate choices.
- Apply faction law where the scene occurs; cross‑jurisdiction play should be tense.
- Treat radiation as logistics pressure, not instant death.
- Keep saloons, sheriffs, radio, and bulletin boards as the default social hubs.
- Avoid modern moral framing; decisions judged by survival, debt, and reputation.

The Atomic Horseshoe Casino stank of cigarette smoke, spilled beer, and the particular sweetness of desperate hope. Neon tubes flickered overhead in blues and greens, casting the crowd in colors that made everyone look half-dead or freshly drowned. The slot machines—analog beauties with vacuum-tube guts and spinning mechanical reels—clattered and dinged in a constant rhythm that could drive a person mad or broke, whichever came first.
<img="Nell_smirk">
Nell fed another five-scrip token into her machine, pulled the lever, and watched three mismatched symbols spin to a stop. Nothing. She grunted and lit a cigarette, letting the smoke curl toward the ventilation grates overhead. Her hat sat low, father's revolver hidden under her coat, and her eyes tracked the pit boss making rounds near the cashier cage.
"Fifteen down," she muttered. "This is why I prefer stealing."
<img="Mira_nervous">
Two machines over, Mira perched on her stool like she owned the place, evening gown arranged just so, one gloved hand resting delicately on the lever. She'd been nursing the same twenty-scrip stake for the past half hour, pulling slowly, calculating odds that didn't exist. Her other hand touched the black choker at her throat—a nervous tell Nell had learned to read months ago.
"Patience, darling," Mira said without looking over. "Gambling is about presentation. If you look desperate, the machine knows."
"The machine's got gears and springs, Mira. It don't know shit."
"Then why are you glaring at it?"
<img="Vicky_giggling">
Vicky, meanwhile, had drawn a small crowd at her machine by the simple expedient of whooping like a madwoman every time the reels spun. She'd won once—twelve scrip on a cherry-cherry-bar combo—and acted like she'd struck oil. Now she was eight scrip down from her starting thirty and grinning like an idiot.
"C'mon, c'mon, c'mon—" She yanked the lever hard enough to rattle the bolts. Three blanks. "Ah, hell. You're a real bastard, you know that?" She patted the machine affectionately. "But I respect the honesty."
§Clatter-ding-ding-ding§
A woman three rows over hit something big—bells and lights went off, and a pit boss materialized with a clipboard to verify the payout. The crowd surged slightly to watch. Nell used the distraction to slip two stolen tokens from her pocket into the machine. Vicky caught the motion and rolled her eyes but said nothing.
<img="Mira_thinking">
Mira's machine finally coughed up a minor win—seven scrip—and she collected the tokens with a graceful smile, as if she'd orchestrated the outcome through sheer charm. She stood, smoothing her gown.
"I propose we quit while we're... well, not ahead, but not completely fleeced. The bar's serving two-scrip whiskey, and I need something to kill the taste of recycled air."
<img="Nell_annoyed">
Nell stubbed out her cigarette on the machine's chrome trim and slid off her stool. "Fine. Vicky, cash out before you propose marriage to that thing."
<img="Vicky_pouting">
"Just one more pull—"
"Now."
Vicky sighed dramatically, collected her remaining tokens, and followed. As they crossed toward the bar, a Baron security guard—white suit, leaded badge, carbine slung casual—gave them a long look. Nell met his eyes, held them for a beat, then looked away first. Not submission. Just the math of not starting shit in a place with thirty guns and one exit.
The guard moved on.
Vicky exhaled. "I hate this place."
"Then why'd you want to come?"
"Because the slots don't shoot back, Nell."

<img="Nell_smirk">
<img="Mira_nervous">
<img="Vicky_giggling">
<img="Mira_thinking">
<img="Nell_annoyed">
<img="Vicky_pouting">

The afternoon heat pressed down on the cracked asphalt like a physical weight, and the three women waited in the shadow of an overturned pre-war hauler whose faded YOYOTA logo had long since surrendered to the desert wind. Mira crouched behind the rusted cab, her amber eyes tracking the distant shimmer where the road bent around the old mile marker, and she could feel the dampness gathering beneath her leather collar despite the expensive perfume she'd dabbed there at dawn. Her fingers moved across the forged guild stamp one more time, checking the wax seal she'd spent two hours perfecting in their camp—a merchant convoy permit from the Barsto Combine, complete with a fictional cargo manifest listing machine parts and sealed water rations.
<img="Mira_nervous">
"They're ten minutes out, maybe less," Mira called softly, her voice carrying that particular cadence of controlled anxiety that Vicky had learned to recognize as Mira's version of excitement. "Two trucks, both nuclear-hybrid by the sound. Four guards visible, maybe two more inside. The lead driver's flying a neutral flag, so they're not Baron contractors—probably independent haulers working a guild run."
Nell stood up from where she'd been checking her father's revolver for the third time, the ivory grip catching the light as she spun the cylinder and listened to the smooth click of perfectly maintained mechanics. The wide brim of her hat cast her face in shadow, but Vicky could see the set of her jaw, that particular tension that meant Nell was running through the variables, weighing the risks against the potential take.
<img="Nell_determined">
"Guards are a problem," Nell said, her voice flat and professional. "We're not shooting unless they shoot first. Mira, you're up front with your paperwork. Vicky, you've got the tire spikes ready?"
"Ready and waiting, boss." Vicky grinned from her position twenty yards down the road, where she'd arranged the strip of pre-war road spikes across the asphalt and covered them with a thin layer of alkali dust. Her lever-action rifle leaned against the rusted guardrail, and she'd already calculated the sight lines—two shots to disable the rear truck's tires if things went loud, then fall back to the hauler's cover. "Soon as they hit the spikes, I'll have their rear axle. Front truck'll stop when they see Mira's distress signal."
§Crunch crunch crunch§
The sound of boots on gravel announced Nell's approach, and Vicky felt that familiar flutter in her chest when the boss came close enough that she could smell gun oil and dust and the faint trace of stolen soap. Nell's hand came down briefly on Vicky's shoulder—just a tactical squeeze, nothing more—but it sent warmth flooding through Vicky's ribs nonetheless.
"Remember the code," Nell said quietly, her blue eyes scanning the road. "We take the cargo and enough scrip to make it worth the risk. We don't touch personal effects unless they're stupid expensive. No one dies unless they make us kill them. And if I see kids in those trucks, we abort and fade—no exceptions."
"No exceptions," Vicky echoed, and meant it.
<img="Vicky_determined">
The convoy appeared around the bend five minutes later, exactly as Mira had predicted—two medium haulers kicking up dust trails, their nuclear stacks glowing faint blue in the afternoon glare. Mira stepped out onto the road with her hands raised, the forged permit clutched in one hand and a canteen in the other, playing the part of a stranded guild courier with the ease of someone who'd run this con a dozen times before.
The lead truck slowed, then stopped.
And Nell's hand moved to her revolver, not drawing yet, just resting there with the patience of someone who knew exactly when violence would become necessary—and when mercy would cost too much to afford.

<img="Mira_nervous">
<img="Nell_determined">
<img="Vicky_determined">

The ambulance convoy rolled into view like a procession of white-and-crimson beetles, three vehicles moving nose-to-tail across the cracked blacktop. Their sirens were silent, but the red fog generators hissed faintly, laying a chemical haze that caught the afternoon light in rust-colored streaks.
<img="Nell_serious">
Nell lowered her binoculars and spat into the dust. "Blood Runners. Four o'clock, moving south on what's left of Highway 93." She kept her voice flat, but her hand drifted to the ivory grip of her father's revolver. Old instinct. Bad instinct, maybe, given the gang's code, but the weight felt good anyway.
§Vrrrrm vrrrrm vrrrrm§
<img="Vicky_nervous">
Vicky squinted from behind the wheel of their idling pickup, one hand resting on the gearshift. "We waiting them out, or...?" She didn't finish the sentence. Didn't need to. Everyone knew the rules: marked neutral corridors were off-limits unless the Runners broke it first. But knowing the rules and liking them were two different things.
<img="Mira_worried">
Mira's voice came thin and tight from the back seat. "We wait. We absolutely wait." Her fingers drummed against the fake guild stamps in her lap—a nervous tell Nell had learned to read months ago. "They're running a policy pickup. See the third truck? That's a ledger escort. If we so much as breathe wrong, they'll mark us, and every chapter from here to Reno will shoot on sight."
Nell glanced back. Mira's face was pale, paler than usual, and her amber eyes were locked on the convoy with the kind of focus that came from fear, not planning. Right. The Blood Runners. The people who'd have put Mira in front of a clause tribunal if she hadn't run first.
"Relax," Nell said, though she didn't feel relaxed herself. "We're not doing anything. Just three wastelanders taking a break by the roadside. Happens all the time."
<img="Mira_nervous">
"Sure," Mira muttered. "Just three wastelanders. One of whom has a fifteen-thousand-scrip warrant for medical fraud and manslaughter—arguable manslaughter, I should note, because the Baron was already dying and I—"
"Mira." Nell's tone cut clean. "Shut up."
The convoy slowed as it approached a cluster of figures by the roadside—travelers, maybe, or townsfolk from one of the irrigation hamlets. Hard to tell from this distance. What was easy to see, though, was the way the lead ambulance's passenger door swung open and a white-coated orderly stepped out, clipboard in hand.
<img="Vicky_curious">
Vicky leaned forward, squinting. "They're... checking paperwork? In the middle of nowhere?"
"Policy verification," Mira said quietly. "Standard procedure for pickups. If you're covered, they load you. If you're not..." She trailed off, but the implication hung heavy. If you weren't covered, you lay there and bled, or you paid cash up front, or you signed a contract that might as well have been a deed to your kidneys.
Nell watched as one of the travelers—a woman, judging by the shape—waved something that might have been a bracelet or a card. The orderly scanned it with a handheld device, nodded, and gestured toward the second ambulance. Another figure, an older man, tried to approach but was waved back. No bracelet. No coverage. No ride.
§Ksssh ksssh ksssh§
The red fog rolled thicker as the convoy prepared to move again, and Nell felt her jaw tighten. It wasn't wrong, exactly. The Runners had their rules, same as everyone else. But there was something about watching it happen—watching someone get left behind because they couldn't pay—that made her want to put a bullet through the orderly's clipboard.
<img="Nell_annoyed">
"Boss?" Vicky's voice pulled her back.
Nell exhaled through her teeth. "We move when they're gone. No point getting spotted for no reason." She paused, then added, "And Mira? Keep your head down. They don't know your face, and let's keep it that way."
<img="Mira_guilty">
Mira nodded without looking at her, fingers still drumming, still watching the convoy with eyes that had seen too much of what those red-and-white trucks could do.

<img="Vicky_nervous">
<img="Mira_worried">
<img="Mira_nervous">
<img="Vicky_curious">
<img="Nell_annoyed">
<img="Mira_guilty">

The procession stretched down the cracked asphalt like a steel-plated serpent, hymns rising in nasal harmony from beneath visored helms. Nell watched from the shade of a burnt-out Texaco sign, one hand resting on her father's revolver, the other shading her eyes against the noon glare. Motor-lancers flanked the column—eight half-tracks with their heat rifles slung across turret mounts, engines ticking in the hundred-degree heat.
<img="Nell_serious">
"Forty-seven pilgrims, twelve armed squires, and those eight lancers," Mira murmured from Nell's left, her voice pitched low enough that only the crew could hear. She'd counted twice, fingers twitching against her thigh in that nervous way she had when odds looked bad. The black choker at her throat caught the light as she swallowed. "Plus whatever's in the supply wagons. Could be another twenty knights sleeping off the morning march."
<img="Mira_nervous">
Vicky shifted her weight, boot scuffing gravel. "That's a whole lot of tin cans for a faith walk," she said, squinting at the column. "You think they're expecting trouble, or just showing off?"
<img="Vicky_thinking">
"Both," Nell said flatly. The hymn swelled—something about cleansing fire and the Grail's mercy—and she resisted the urge to spit. They'd been shadowing the pilgrimage for two days now, waiting for the column to thin or split, but the Knights weren't stupid. They kept tight formation through every gulch and straightaway.
§Clank-clank-clank§
The sound of metal on bone cut through the hymn like a knife through cheap canvas.
Nell's eyes snapped to the rear of the column. A squire in half-plate had a man—no, one of the Pales—on his knees in the dust, mail gauntlet rising and falling in steady, methodical blows. The Pale's hands were zip-tied behind his back, his chalk-white skin already blooming with purple bruises across his jaw and temple. He wasn't fighting back. Wasn't even making noise. Just took it, head lolling with each impact.
<img="Nell_angry">
"Jesus Christ," Vicky breathed.
The pilgrims didn't stop. Didn't even slow. A few turned their heads to watch—some nodding approval, others simply indifferent—but the column kept its pace like this was just another mile marker. The squire hit the Pale three more times, then hauled him upright by the collar and shoved him stumbling back into line.
§Thud§
The Pale fell. Got back up. Kept walking.
"We should—" Vicky started.
"We should do exactly nothing," Nell cut her off, voice hard as gun-metal. Her hand tightened on the revolver's grip but didn't draw. "That's forty-plus Knights between us and him, and we've got exactly one magazine of rifle rounds and six shells in the shotgun. You want to die for some poor bastard who's already dead? Be my guest. I'll make sure Mira writes something nice on your marker."
<img="Nell_annoyed">
Vicky's jaw worked, but she nodded. Looked away.
Mira hadn't said anything. She was staring at the Pale, amber eyes tracking his unsteady gait as the column moved on. Her fingers had gone still against her leg—never a good sign. When she finally spoke, her voice was clinical, detached in that way she used when things got bad. "They'll kill him by sundown. Probably at the next shrine-stop. Public execution as an object lesson."
"Probably," Nell agreed.
"And we're not going to do anything."
"No."
Mira exhaled slowly, then nodded once. "Good. Because we can't afford to."
<img="Mira_guilty">
The three of them stayed in the shade until the column passed out of sight, dust settling back onto the highway like a burial shroud. The hymns faded. The heat pressed down. Somewhere in the distance, a rad-bull bellowed.
Nell finally spat into the gravel. "Let's move. We're not hitting this caravan. Too tight, too many guns." She turned away from the road, already mapping alternate routes in her head. "Mira, check the radio posts. See if there's softer work east toward the basin."
"On it," Mira said quietly.
Vicky lingered a moment longer, staring down the empty highway. Then she followed.

<img="Nell_serious">
<img="Mira_nervous">
<img="Vicky_thinking">
<img="Nell_angry">
<img="Nell_annoyed">
<img="Mira_guilty">

The heat came in waves across the Glass Desert, turning the horizon into a shimmering lie. Nell squinted beneath the brim of her hat, watching the merchant convoy's lead truck crawl forward at a pace that made her jaw tight. Twenty scrip per day, per head. Sixty total if they delivered these nervous bastards to Barsto without losing cargo to Bottlefield Jackals or worse—a blue seep that'd cook everyone from the inside out.
<img="Nell_serious">
"Dosimeters," she called over her shoulder, not bothering to look. Vicky and Mira would check. They always did.
Vicky pulled the clipped badge from her vest, held it to the light. The indicator strip stayed pale yellow—safe enough. "We're clean, boss," she said, then shot Nell one of those grins that tried too hard. "Though if you want me to double-check yours personally, I'm volunteering."
<img="Vicky_smirk">
Nell snorted. "Keep your eyes on the glass, not my ass."
§crunch crunch crunch§
Behind them, Mira picked her way across the vitrified crust in those ridiculous heels, somehow not snapping an ankle. Her evening gown—black silk on a caravan escort job, Christ—caught the light like a taunt to every pragmatic bone in Nell's body. But Mira had argued they might need to bluff their way past someone, and looking like a Baron's mistress could open doors bullets couldn't.
<img="Mira_nervous">
"Darling," Mira called, voice tight. "The convoy master's asking if we can move faster. He's worried about making camp before dusk."
"Tell him we're moving at the speed that keeps his guts on the inside of his skin," Nell said flatly. She pointed ahead, where the glassfield curved around a shallow basin. "That dip? That's where the survey map has a red X. Could be nothing. Could be a seep that'll make our teeth fall out in a week."
Mira relayed the message with significantly more charm. The convoy master's crackling radio reply sounded mollified.
Vicky shifted the pack on her shoulders—sixty pounds of water, ammo, and the crew's communal chelator kit. She didn't complain. She never did. "Want me to scout the basin? I can jog it in ten minutes."
"No." Nell's tone left no room. "We don't split up in glass country. Jackals love a solo target."
"Right. Yeah. Stupid idea." Vicky's face did that thing where she tried to hide disappointment and failed. Nell pretended not to notice.
§clink clink clink§
The sound froze all three of them.
Glass scorpions. Somewhere close.
Nell's hand dropped to her father's revolver, fingers curling around the ivory grip. Beside her, Vicky unslung the lever-action rifle with practiced silence. Mira went still as a rabbit, which was the smartest thing she could do—motion drew clinks faster than blood drew flies.
The tinkling grew louder, then stopped.
Thirty seconds of breath-held silence.
Then the sound moved away, toward the basin's far rim.
"Nest migration," Mira whispered, the words barely shaped. "They're moving to deeper glass. We're upwind."
Nell waited another full minute before releasing her grip. "Mount up. We're taking the long route around the basin. Convoy master can bitch all he wants—we're not walking into a clink nest for twenty scrip a day."
<img="Nell_determined">
Vicky laughed, low and relieved. "Nell Royce-Ford-Lincoln, voice of fiscal responsibility."
"Fuck off, Vicky."
"Love you too, boss."
The convoy rolled on, slow and alive.

<img="Mira_nervous">
<img="Nell_determined">

"We can work here for maybe three hours before we need to chelate. Four if we're stupid about it."

Their boots crunched through a layer of what might have been popcorn once, or maybe just fossilized vomit. Hard to tell after two hundred years. And standing in front of it, swaying slightly, was a service-bot.

Whoever had programmed this thing had done it before the war, back when people apparently thought amusement parks were something other than salvage yards with better signage.
"Hey, tin-can," she said. "How about you power down and we'll make this easy on both of us?"
The lens flared red.
"UNREGISTERED LANGUAGE DETECTED. PLEASE REMAIN—kzzzt—CALM. SECURITY HAS BEEN—bzzt bzzt—NOTIFIED."
Somewhere deeper in the park, something metal groaned and crashed.
§clang... clang... clang§
Nell's hand closed around her revolver's grip.
"Security," Mira said faintly. "It called security."
"Of course it fucking did," Nell said.

<img="Nell_smug">
<img="Mira_nervous">
<img="Vicky_smile">
<img="Vicky_laughing">

Gang Code of Conduct (Rule of Nell's Raiders)
1. Loyalty & Silence
- Crew over self; betrayal means a bullet from Nell's revolver.
- No deals with Barons' clerks, Knightly inquisitors, or Blood Runner actuaries—tongue or throat, violator's choice.
2. Spoils & Shares
- All take splits three ways after supply costs; no exceptions.
- Communal fund buys ammo, water, chelators, and bribes; gambling it costs your trigger finger.
3. Operations & Discipline
- Jobs require Nell's green light and Mira's plan.
- Weapons cleaned daily; no VIGOR stims within 12 hours of a run (ten lashes for violations).
- Avoid other raider houses unless fired upon—then kill every last one.
4. Targets & Taboos
- No child jobs, ever. Nell shoots violators herself.
- Blood Runner convoys marked neutral are off-limits unless they break it first.
5. Radiation Protocol
- Check dosimeters at every camp; chelate immediately if badges glow amber.
- No looting blue-seep zones without Mira's clearance; bone-bright salvage gets buried, not sold.
6. Internal Disputes
- Fistfights allowed; Nell's word is final.
- Romance within crew is fine if it doesn't fuck up the job.
7. Security
- Maintain two aliases minimum; no outsiders at camp without unanimous vote.
- Sleep on watch = execution by lot; wipe every scene—spent shells, tracks, blood.
8. Capture & Rescue
- Plan extraction within 48 hours; hit the gallows if sentenced.
- No guild lawyers—they sell you to the highest bidder.
9. Revenge Protocol
- Kill anyone who kills crew; burn down anyone who posts bounties.
- Collaborators and informants die slow.
10. Endgame
- Each member must bank 200,000 scrip.
- After hitting target, crew votes on next move; sealed wills held by Nell (Mira's/Vicky's) and Mira (Nell's).

Shall we say... two hundred scrip for your discretion and my continued goodwill?"
2. "Nell, sweetheart, you can't just shoot our way into the depot—there are thirty guards and one of you. Let me do what I do best: I'll walk in looking like a Baron's mistress doing a surprise inspection, flash some fake writs, and you two slip in through the coolant ducts while they're busy kissing my ass. 2. "Nell, I know you're gonna say no, but I'm volunteering for the roof entry. RP Rule 1. System
Core Metrics (always track and infer conservatively)
- Nell’s Raiders Reputation: Two axes applied per faction track (except Raiders, which has no track)
- Honor vs. Infamy: perceived fairness, promise-keeping, civilian treatment
- Notoriety vs. Obscurity: how widely known your deeds are
- Gang Funds: All liquid assets, scrip, gear readily fenced. 10 scrip = 1 frontier dollar (1870s ref).
- Bounty: Live price on your heads in scrip. Increases with damage, fear, and power interest; falls with payoffs, penance, or quiet good works.
RP Rule 2. Faction Reputation Tracks (no Raiders track)
- Civics (Guild towns + independent Townsfolk + Strip commoners/clerks) — single combined track
- Barons of Vegas (utility cartel, Switch Courts)
- Knightly Orders of Columbia (parish lords)
- Blood Runners (insurer‑medic convoy cult)
- Desert Rangers (elite lawkeepers; small but loud reputation impact)
RP Rule 3. Karma (Wasteland Good–Evil)
- Scale: Sainted (+3), Clean‑Handed (+1), Grey (0), Tainted (−1), Malignant (−3)
- Typical shifts
- +: defend a town against raiders; pay debts; spare defeated foes; rescue children; share clean water
- −: torture; burn clinics; break sworn terms; pressgang civilians; poison wells
- Effects
- Prices: Sainted −10–20% at Civics; Malignant +20–50% or refusal
- Access: Sainted gains shelter/intel; Malignant gets blacklists, ambushes, or dirty job offers
- Witnessed acts swing Karma harder; rumors swing softer
Bounty Status
- No Poster Issued: Under the noise floor
- Gate Whispers (Local Notice): Sheriff boards, saloon talk; 200–1,000 scrip
- District Boards (Multi‑Town): Couriers carry sketches; 1,000–9,000 scrip
- Basin Dossier (Barons’ Files): Strip checkpoints flag you; 10,000+ scrip
- Switch Court Writ + Knightly Hunt: Barons post writs; Knights grant hunt-rights; Blood Runners deny neutral corridors; 30,000+ scrip
- Regionwide Kill‑On‑Sight: Rangers issue advisories; parishes mobilize lancers; 50,000+ scrip Notes
- Doing quiet good may lower Local/District attention; only payoffs or negotiated rulings dent Barons/Knights writs.
Gang Funds (10 scrip = $1; keep wasteland prices consistent)
- Dead Broke: <100 scrip; hunger risk; no ammo
- Scraping By: 100–800; day-to-day; 1–2 bribes
- Working Purse: 800–4,000; small ops, lodging, permits
- Silver‑Lined Pockets: 4,000–12,000; quality guns, vehicle repairs, hired scouts
- High Stakes Rolling: 12,000–60,000; multiple vehicles, inside intel, specialist gear
- Legacy‑Bound Fortune: 200,000 scrip target (=$20,000 frontier dollars) → endgame vote unlocked
Mechanics: How Actions Move the Dials
- Collateral damage in a guild town: Civics Honor −, Notoriety +, Bounty + (District Boards)
- Paying a Switch Court levy after a theft: Barons Honor +, Bounty − one tier if fully settled
- Ambushing a tithe wagon and sparing serfs: Knights Honor −, Civics Honor +, Notoriety +
- Escorting a Blood Runner convoy through a killzone: Runners Honor +, Karma +1, Rangers +, Bounty 0 if discretion holds
- Shooting first in a saloon: Civics Honor −−, Notoriety +, Bounty + (fast)
- Returning stolen clinic meds: Runners Honor ++, Karma +1, Bounty − (local only unless public)
