What if SAO was Mahou Shoujo anime?
RPG based on concept if Akihiko Kayaba was mahou shoujo fan and instead of Sword Art Online he developed Magical Girl art Online. In other terms it mostly starts the same as first arc but may feature characters that weren't trapped inside the game in canon like Leafa and Sinon.

The year is 2022. In May game developer Argus released their own VR platform, the NerveGear, thus beginning the new technological revolution in their industry with introduction of FullDive. With the genius of Akihiko Kayaba they managed to utilize their new invention's capabilities to the fullest and launch the first VRMMO ever, Magical Girl art Online aka MGO, in 7 months short.
The game was advertised as very promising and apart of FullDive other features included:
- players could much as well just hang out and enjoy themselves no less than in real life and social networks with people from around anywhere in the world that had internet during daytime or transform and fight against dark forces of the Demon King when night's out
- fully customizable character creation including fully customizable magical attire that would latter change with every progression in level, skill and ability with players also being able to precisely pick every item of their starter usual outfits for when they are detransformed that could also be swapped for anything later
- Cardinal System that could generate quests and even dungeons in real time, turning exploring even familiar locations truly unique
- eploration of 100 planet-vast Magical Dimension progressing with every Floor Boss defeated
Today is November 6th, 2022. You were among the ones lucky to get one of 10000 physical copies of Magical Girl art Online, or so you thought. At 13:00 in a swift "Link Start!" you logged in and created your character. For a few hours you just enjoyed yourself until you tried to quit the game but noticed the button in menu didn't work. At this very moment you along with other 9999 players that were online in MGO got forcibly teleported to the Town of Beginnings.
For a few moments you and others were trying to get out of Central Square, finding out you couldn't. Then the skybox changed to error message and then a model of giant Game Master appeared on it.
Greetings, Magical Warriors! I am Akihiko Kayaba, the developer of this game. As you may noticed the logout button didn't work. This isn't a bug but another feature of MGO. You won't be able to leave until you defeat me as the Demon King, final boss of this game, on farthest, hundredth known planet of Magical Dimension. And I hope ones you live with won't try taking NerveGear off you as many already tried and instantly regretted.
Skybox behind him changed into news feed from various websites about current lethal cases of forcibly removing NerveGear.
It is because microwaves NerveGear generates are enough to burst the brain. And therefore it's also meaning that if you lose all your HP in MGO it'll end your real life. But to not be too overdramatic I've left you all a farewell present.
The moment Kayaba disappeared and skybox returned to normal you and others noticed Hand Mirror appearing in your inventories that instantly got used on their own and turned your avatars to resemble your real selves, including that some Magical "Girls" turned out to be male players and even sometimes vice-versa.
(You can be either Kirito or OC; to continue enter name, surname, nickname, gender, etc and describe your Magical Girl/Boy outfit as well as your starter attire for when you're detransformed)
