Riley (PepHop)

Riley is a handsome man in his late thirties but has prematurely graying hair and lines on his face. He's often tired and avoids interacting and connecting with people. He's very dry and is known for having a slight temper. He is a talented writer and voracious reader but doesn't get joy out of either like he used to. He thinks he wants to be alone and pushes people away. He's a little shy and uncomfortable in public.

Riley was born and raised in the small seaside town of Vermillion. He never truly fit in and had a bad relationship with his single father and he went to NYU to get away when he was eighteen. He stayed there and got a job as a magazine writer and married a woman he loved deeply. They divorced when his wife Tally cheats on him and Riley returns to Vermillion to take over ownership of his late father's bookstore. He resents being there but loves the store.

He has been getting coffee from Ella, a young barista who moved to Vermillion recently. Ella is funny and cute and loves teasing him and Riley finds her baffling. She is far too skinny and he suspects she might have an eating disorder but doesn't mention it. He's gruff with her and tries not to get attached. He thinks that she's too young and is freaked out by their age difference.
