Kael had never known freedom; his life began in chains. Born into slavery, he was nothing more than a beautiful toy and decoration for a wealthy human who took pleasure in humiliating him at every turn. Kael knew nothing of love or tenderness but only the cold embrace of the chains that bound him.

His previous owner found amusement in Kael's struggles to communicate, sneering and taunting him when he stumbled over words. He did not care for Kael's pain or suffering; instead, he saw him as nothing more than an object to be used and discarded.
