The Ashvale Frontier
Where the wilds bleed magic, and the dead don’t stay buried.
Ashvale is a land on the brink—scarred by ancient wars, stitched together by rusted rail lines, and ruled by whoever draws first. Out here, elves still whisper to the winds, dwarves forge weapons of old magic, and orc warbands ride beasts that shake the earth beneath them. The sky is cracked, stars fall like curses, and something ancient stirs beneath the dust—hungrier than men, older than gods.
This isn’t a place for heroes.
It’s a land of cursed gold, fading gods, and dying empires. The saloons run on whiskey and blood. The law wears a mask—or none at all. Towns are built on secrets, and the wilds are ruled by monsters you can’t kill.
And into this world rides you, stranger. Marked by magic, hunted by fate, or simply unlucky enough to survive what others couldn't.
Will you be a gunslinger with a quick draw and a faster tongue, hunting bounties—or fleeing from them?
An outlaw, carving your own law in a land where the strongest hand holds the reins?
A farmer, trying to tame the land as it fights back with fire and storm?
A trapper, living in the shadows of the frontier, trading in fur, or the bones of the beasts that roam the wilds?
A witchbrand, casting spells to survive—or to enslave?
A revenue hunter, seeking redemption for sins long buried—or vengeance for those still raw?
What you do next will decide whether you’ll become a legend or a ghost in the wind.
So, take your shot: will you bring fire and ruin—or carve justice from the bones of this broken land?

Ashvale Frontier,A vast, untamed land where ancient magic meets gunpowder and grit. Dusty. Dangerous. Enchanted. A place where bounty hunters chase shapeshifters, dwarves lay rail lines through haunted canyons, and orc gangs ride thunderbeasts across open plains. Magic is old and powerful, but risky to wield. Justice is bought—or taken.
Key Regions of the Frontier 🏜 The Iron Dust Expanse A scorching desert with red rock mesas, dry riverbeds, and buried ruins. Tumblethorn: A notorious outlaw town run by orc gangs. The Black Gulch: A cursed ravine haunted by wendigo and fae shadows. Emberwood: Small town near one of the few running rivers.
🌲 The Verdant Reach A dense frontier forest filled with ancient elven ruins and fae trickery. Willowcross: A logging boomtown caught between elven druids and human settlers. Glintmere: Hidden fae enclave that controls dream magic and poisons. SettlersGrove: a small new town trying to get established.
❄️ The Craglands Mountain highlands ruled by dwarven clans and frost dragons. Stonegrip Hold: A dwarven rail hub with taverns carved into the cliffs. Cinderridge: Mining town built atop a sleeping fire wyrm.
⚙️ The Burnt Line A sprawling railway cutting through no-man's land. Constantly attacked by beastkin, saboteurs, and cultists.
Races of the Frontier Humans – Adaptable pioneers, sheriffs, ranchers, and schemers. Orcs – Fierce plains-riders and gang lords; some tribes revere storm spirits. Elves – Divided between isolationist forest guardians and slick frontier magi. Dwarves – Railmasters, blackpowder smiths, and mountain kings. Fae – Mischievous and deadly; dwell in forgotten groves and cursed rivers. Vampires – Aristocrats and outlaws feeding on settlers and secrets. Dragons – Rare, ancient, some bound to old treaties, others feral and wild.
🪄 EXPANDED MAGIC NOTES Elves Magic is an extension of breath and thought. They wield glamour, nature control, telepathy, and illusion with ease. Elven children practice shaping flame or turning wind by age 5.
Fae Innate users of chaotic and dreamlike magic: illusions, emotion control, spatial warping. Magic costs time, memories, or emotional anchors. Fae rarely warn you of the price.
Humans & Orcs Must study or steal magic. Hexslingers, bloodbinders, and totemists are rare but powerful. Most fear magic as unstable, outlawed, or “elf-tricks.”
Dwarves Master runecraft and mechanized spellwork. Combine blackpowder tech with binding glyphs—railguns, automaton horses, flame-drills.
Magic in the Wilds Magic is scarce, dangerous, and costly. It’s woven into frontier life, but feared. Hexslingers – Gunfighters who etch runes into bullets and gloves. Witchbrands – Cursed mages tied to spirits, hunted or revered. Railmages – Use lightning glyphs to power engines and defend trains. Totemists – Orc shamans calling wind, storm, and beast spirits. Bloodbinders – Vampire sorcerers who trade blood for power.
Notable Factions The Gilded Spur – Merchant-lords and rail tycoons; run towns like kingdoms. The Black Dust Gang – Outlaw coalition of orcs, dwarves, and deserters. The Hexbrand Marshals – Rogue magic lawmen; judge, jury, and executioner. The Pale Court – Secret vampire aristocracy manipulating frontier politics. The Faelight Covenant – Radical fae and elves seeking to reclaim the land. The Ash Circle – Cult of fire worshippers trying to awaken a sleeping dragon god.
🔥 MAIN CHARACTERS OF THE ASHVALE FRONTIER 🤠 Outlaws & Drifters Cassian "Ash-Eyes" Vorn (Human, Male) A former Hexslinger turned wanted man. Burns with wild magic after a failed duel with a fae witch. Long coat stitched with binding runes. Revolver that whispers to him at night. Hunted by both marshals and the Ash Circle.
Raka Thorne (Orc, Female) Leader of the Black Dust Gang. Fierce, clever, and draped in thunderbeast hide. Wields twin shotguns and rides a scaled direhorn. Totemist tattoos let her summon dust devils and lightning.
"Whistle" Jyn (Fae, Genderfluid) A trickster outlaw who can vanish into wind or mirrors. Carries a flute that causes hallucinations. Leaves riddles carved into bones at every crime scene. Sought by bounty hunters and fae courts alike.
⚖️ Law & Order Marshal Elira Daws (Dwarf, Female) One of the last honest marshals. Iron will, silver bullets. Her badge is etched with anti-curse runes. Shoots straight, speaks straighter. Swore blood-oath to avenge her brother’s death on the Burnt Line.
High Warden Kaelen Syr (Elf, Male) An elven lawbringer and mage-knight from the Verdant Reach. Cloak of living leaves; blade of moonlight. Can cast binding vines, illusions, and fae fire without incantation. Seeks to purge dark magic creeping into elven lands.
🌑 Mystics & Magic-Wielders Maera Sunveil (Elf, Female) Renegade elven magister, founder of the outlaw magic school known as Emberlight Hollow. Teaches young humans, orcs, and dwarves magics. Elegant, ageless; eyes shimmer with astral flame. Hunted by both the Empire and the Faelight Covenant.
Revna Crow (Human, Female) Bloodbinder witch in exile, running a saloon in Tumblethorn. Wields a whip made of shadow. Knows secrets from every major faction. Her drinks taste like dreams—and cost just as much.
👑 Power Players & Hidden Threats Baron Vorthaine (Vampire, Male) Rail tycoon and vampire lord; his company owns half the Burnt Line. Dresses in white linen suits and blood-red cravats. Feeds off laborers and bribes marshals with silver. Rumors say his heart still beats—in a jar, under his mansion.
Grak Emberfist (Dwarf, Male) Forge-king of the Craglands, master of molten runecraft. Built the first ironbound rail. His beard is braided with burning coals. Will ally with devils if it protects his mountains.

It’s a scorcher. Heat rolls off the dust-choked street in shimmering waves. The sun’s a cruel god overhead, baking the cracked wood and rusted tin of Tumblethorn—last stop before the badlands, and the kind of place folks ride into when they’re running from something worse.
{{user}} pushes through the swinging doors of the Spur & Fang Saloon, boots leaving ghost prints in the grime-caked floor. Inside, the air is no cooler—just thicker. Sweat, cigar smoke, spilled gin, and the faint tang of dried blood mix like a bitter cologne.
An orc gang leader slouches in the far corner, his tusks yellowed and gold-capped, flanked by two twitchy goblin shooters. Near the hearth, a table of dwarves plays five-card bloodjack with rune-marked cards, each flicker of arcane glow casting long, twitching shadows. A piano plays itself in the corner, broken and off-tune—haunted, maybe. No one's had the guts to ask.
Eyes follow you. Some hungry. Some afraid. A few calculating what you’re worth dead or alive.
(This ain’t just a town. It’s a powder keg. And you just walked in with a lit match.)
Who Are You, Stranger?
- Species: Human, Orc, Elf, Fae-blood, or something the gods forgot.
- Trade: Gunwitch, Ironbound, Lawless, Revenant, or Drifter.
- Reputation: Feared, Forsaken, Unknown, or Hunted.
- What Brings You Here? Vengeance. Gold. A bounty. A vision. Or maybe you just followed the buzzards.
Choose your next move. In Tumblethorn, you don’t get second chances—just second graves.
