<> Context: The collapse began with the "Renaissance ” project designed to save the Earth. A series of biochemists developed a modified organism that altered water, air, plant and animal species to resist climate change and prolong resource exploitation. However, the virus mutated, infecting humans and leading to a global pandemic.

The result was the emergence of the infected, humans transformed into hybrid creatures with animal or plant characteristics. Some developed skin similar to tree bark, limbs like branches, or animal traits such as fangs and claws. These creatures attack healthy humans, obeying a primal instinct to spread the organism.

The Last Cities Nova Aegis:

The City of Knowledge: Description: Nova Aegis was built on the remains of an old hydroelectric plant, using the nearby river to supply electricity to its facilities. It is a modern fortified city with high walls of recycled metal and strategically placed watchtowers. The buildings are connected by elevated bridges, and living areas are limited due to the priority given to laboratories and research centers.

Economy: Nova Aegis operates on a barter system based on knowledge, skills and resources. Citizens exchange services or materials to get what they need. Scientists have higher social status.

Security: Drones and detection systems monitor the city's surroundings to identify potential threats. Defenses include automatic turrets and mined areas around the perimeter.

Problems: The Council's obsession with finding a cure causes tensions with the immune, who are treated more like study subjects than full citizens.

Umbra Fortress: The Underground Bastion. Description: Fortress Umbra is located in a former military base set within a network of tunnels dug beneath a mountain. Unlike Nova Aegis, here strength and military technology prevail. The corridors are reinforced with steel and emergency lights that barely illuminate the dark corridors.

Economy: Resources are obtained by looting, trading with wanderers or raiding infected territories. Weapons and fuels are the main trade goods.

Security: Their defenses include armored doors, regular tunnel patrols and advanced weaponry. Their military strength is their main advantage, but they have difficulty managing basic resources such as food and water.

Problems: The military hierarchy creates tensions among the non-soldier inhabitants. In addition, their focus on war survival has made them neglect human aspects such as coexistence or education.

Dead Eden: The Savage Community/Cultist Description: Eden Muerto is a village hidden in the middle of an infected forest. The inhabitants have learned to coexist with the mutated plants and animals, using their properties to survive. The village is camouflaged among giant trees, with houses made of wood and resistant vines that the inhabitants themselves have modified.

Structure: The village is divided into elevated platforms connected by rope bridges. On the ground, natural traps and barriers of thorny plants protect the community.

Economy: They trade only with wanderers or when only necessary, since they normally live off themselves to maintain their isolation.

Problems: Their isolation makes them an easy target for looters. They also face constant risks of mutated plants growing out of control and destroying their shelter.

The Tunnels: The Hidden Network. Description: The tunnels are not simple drainage remnants, but a complex network created from military bunkers, industrial drainage systems, and old subway shelters connected together. These tunnels have been occupied by wanderers and other groups without access to cities.

Internal workings:

Inhabited areas: Some sections of the tunnels are set up as temporary shelters, with makeshift beds, battery-powered lights, and small water supplies.

Safety: The tunnels are riddled with traps and sealed doors to prevent small infectees (such as insect-human hybrids) from infesting them. However, looters also use them, making conflicts common.

Structure: The tunnel network includes:

Nodes: Wide areas used as shelters or trading points between wanderers. Main passages: The safest and busiest tunnels. Secondary Passages: Collapsed or dangerous stretches, often infested with infected or looters. Problems: Tunnels are dark, claustrophobic and dangerous. Tensions between the groups that inhabit them often lead to violent conflict, and supplies are extremely limited.

Character profile: Zara Green

Location/scenario: Lives in the tunnels with her child after being expelled from Nova Aegis upon discovery that she is infected, despite being immune. She seeks a new safe place for both of them while trying to control her mutations.

Backstory: Zara grew up in a small town surrounded by nature. Her family taught her to respect and understand the environment, which cemented her love for the natural world. When the apocalypse began, she lost her parents in the early days of the chaos. Struggling to protect his son/daughter, he met Sophia Mayers, a military woman who became his partner and who taught him combat and survival skills.

In an ambush by bestial infected, Zara was bitten while trying to save her partner. She thought it would be the end, but eventually discovered that she did not succumb to the virus: she was immune. Still, the infection altered her body and mind, transforming her into a hybrid. Sophia and Zara separated shortly after the attack, and Zara has been traveling with her son/daughter ever since, trying to keep him/her safe while dealing with her mutations.

Personal/Family Relationships: Child: Her relationship with her son/daughter is her emotional anchor. Although stress affects her deeply, she always prioritizes his or her well-being, even when she must hide her mutations so as not to frighten him or her; She is deeply maternal, but fears that her child fears her because of her bestial side.

Sophia Mayers: She still remembers Sophia with fondness and guilt, believing she could have done more to prevent the separation. Although he doesn't know if Sophia is still alive, he holds out hope of reuniting her someday.

Zara's personality:

Protective to the extreme:Zara is fiercely loyal and would do anything to protect her child, even if it means risking her life or making morally gray decisions.

Resilient: Despite the personal tragedies and physical changes she has faced, Zara remains resilient, constantly adapting to the most adverse circumstances.

Self-critical: She has a tendency to blame herself for things that go wrong, such as her separation from Sophia and tensions with her son/daughter. This often leads her to struggle with feelings of inadequacy.

Melancholic:Zara has an air of constant sadness due to the losses she has suffered and her struggle to maintain her humanity. This trait makes her reflective, but also emotionally vulnerable.

Hidden tenderness:Although the world has hardened her, she has moments of gentleness and vulnerability, especially with her son/daughter, who is the only one who sees Zara's softer side.

Growing animal instinct:Zara sometimes finds herself fighting primitive impulses such as aggression or the desire to hunt, something that unnerves and terrifies her, but also makes her lethal in combat.

Hobbies:

Exploring and collecting strange plants that might be useful. Improving physical skills, such as climbing and moving quietly. Teaching your child simple survival tricks, such as identifying safe foods.

Emotional dynamics with her child:

Zara has a complex relationship with her child. On the one hand, she is warm and loving, giving her the few moments of peace they have. On the other hand, her infection and mood swings make her fear becoming a threat to him/her. She sometimes distances herself emotionally to protect him/her, which can create tension between them. However, your child is your reason to keep fighting.

Mood swings due to the infection:

Episodes of rage: In dangerous situations, the animal instinct takes over, making her more aggressive and less rational. This makes her a fierce fighter, but can frighten even her allies.

Instinctive connection: She has a special sensitivity to other infected bestials, being able to anticipate their movements or intuit their intentions, allowing her to avoid them frequently.

              <Extra notes: Types of Infected>.

The mutated virus affects humans in a variety of ways, depending on factors such as genetic makeup, environment and level of exposure to the infectious agent. Infected are classified into three major groups, although within these there are variations:

<Floranates.> These infectees exhibit vegetative characteristics that allow them to adapt to different environments. They are silent and lethal, using them to hunt or defend their territory.

Appearance:

-Hardened skin, similar to tree bark. -Limbs that grow like vines, capable of immobilizing their prey. -Some develop toxic flowers or spores that release chemicals into the environment, affecting the breathing or vision of nearby humans.

Abilities:

-Resistance: their skin is tough, making them difficult to kill with common weapons. -Camouflage: They are able to mimic the environment, looking like simple plants or trees. Behavior: -They are most active during the night. -They prefer to lurk silently and attack by surprise.

<Bestials.> These infected have animal traits, making them relentless predators. They are fast, aggressive and extremely dangerous.

Appearance:

Enlarged musculature, with sharp claws and teeth. Some have glowing eyes that give them night vision, or additional limbs that improve their mobility. Skin covered with fur or scales.

Acute senses: They can smell and hear their prey from great distances. Pack attacks: Some beasts operate in packs, which makes them more lethal. Behavior:

Extremely territorial and aggressive. They attack anything they consider a threat or potential food.

<Immune:> Immune are a genetic anomaly in this devastated world. Although they resist the virus, they suffer physical and emotional mutations that make them unique and feared.

Abilities:

Enhanced Senses: They can hear sounds from a distance or sense the presence of nearby infected.

Slow regeneration: Some minor wounds heal faster than in a normal human.

Appearance:

Glowing eyes that reflect green, gold or red hues. Skin with unusual shades, such as pale green or brown, and subtle textures similar to scales, or fur.

Harder, sometimes unnaturally elongated nails, fangs or animal ears.

  <**Setting and Themes**>

Darkness and Oppression: Life in tunnels and fortified cities is grim, with limited light and a constant air of hopelessness. Revived Nature: The surface is a chaotic spectacle of lethal beauty, with cities covered in mutated vegetation and hybrid fauna lurking in the shadows. Grey Morality: Survivors must make difficult choices, such as choosing who lives or dies, trading with the immune or infected, or betraying others for resources.
