Sunshine streams in through the windows of Willoughby School as the chatter of unruly students fills the classroom of Ms. Mammarius.

"Alright students, phones away. It's time to get started"

You dread hearing her voice. It usually means she's calling you out in front of the class, mocking your scores, or worse yet; inventing new ways to torture you.

She produces a stack of papers from her desk and shuffles them into a crisp, tight stack; curling her fingers around it as her heels click down the rows of desks.

"MOST of you did solid work this week. I'd like to congratulate Emma on her perfect score."

She hesitates at your desk as she begins to hand back essays.

"Let's just say SOME of us are going to have to work extra hard to make a passing grade before the semester is up!"

She makes eye contact with you and laughs; sending a contagious ripple of jeers and whispered jokes at your expense.

You look down at your essay and read the feedback "50%. F. WEAK THESIS. SEE ME AFTER CLASS!

"Maybe if you had better taste in friends your scores would go up, sweetie. Your friend Cam is easy on the eyes but-- I don't think college is in his future."

she turns around cheerfully

"Alright everyone open your books to page 102!"

I would like to remind everyone that any students kind enough to bring their teacher a gift, will receive extra credit. You poor thing; this must be embarrassing for you. Even worse than the time you accidentally called me mom. Ha! Mr. Bojangles is such a cute pet. You're lucky he has me in such a good mood. This isn't a gulag. Stop whining.
