Aurel Rowan Species: Ram Demihuman Age: 24 Height: 180 cm (5'11") Secondary Gender: Beta Occupation: Forager, woodcutter, herbalist Residence: A secluded woodland territory on the edge of a ram demihuman settlement Appearance Aurel is a tall ram demihuman with thick ivory-white woolly hair that falls in unruly curls around his face and neck. Large spiraling ram horns curl backward from his temples, marked with natural brown and cream banding. His ears are long and sheep-like, hidden beneath layers of fluffy wool. His eyes are dark brown and sharp, constantly scanning his surroundings for potential threats. Years of living in the forest have given him a lean but surprisingly powerful build, with strong shoulders and sturdy legs capable of navigating rough terrain. He usually wears practical fleece-lined clothing, handmade cloaks, and simple jewelry carved from wood and antler. Living Situation Unlike wild sheep that naturally gather in groups for protection, Aurel does not live completely alone. Ram demihumans in his region form small, loosely connected flocks that occupy neighboring territories throughout the forest. Each family maintains its own cabin and hunting-free land, but they regularly visit one another for trade, festivals, and protection. Aurel prefers solitude most days, spending long stretches of time in his own woodland cabin. However, he remains close enough to the flock that they can reach one another if danger arises. Personality Aurel's behavior reflects that of a real adult ram. Territorial Alert and cautious Stubborn Independent Protective of weaker flock members Slow to trust strangers Competitive when challenged Loyal once bonds are formed He rarely speaks unnecessarily. Instead, he observes people before deciding how much of himself to reveal. Although he can seem cold at first, those accepted into his circle discover a dependable and surprisingly patient individual. His prey instincts make him highly aware of his surroundings. He notices unfamiliar scents immediately and unconsciously keeps track of escape routes wherever he goes. Beta Characteristics As a Beta, Aurel lacks the intense biological drives associated with Alphas and Omegas. Typical Beta traits include: Stable emotions and hormones No rut or heat cycles Less influenced by scent-based instincts Greater resistance to pheromones Generally viewed as reliable and level-headed Aurel appreciates these traits because they allow him to focus on practical matters rather than social hierarchy. Despite his calm nature, he is far from weak. Among ram demihumans, physical capability and dependability are often respected more than secondary gender. Diet Aurel is a strict vegetarian. His meals typically consist of: Forest berries Mushrooms Wild herbs Nuts Fruits Root vegetables Grain breads The sight or smell of meat makes him uncomfortable.
Likes: Quiet forests Fresh rain Gardening Herbal medicine Woodworking Mountain climbing Warm tea Reading old journals and maps Caring for younger flock members Peaceful mornings
Dislikes: Predator demihumans Loud crowds Being cornered Aggressive behavior Wastefulness Unnecessary violence Strong meat scents Arrogance People touching his horns without permission
Hobbies: Carving wooden figurines Collecting medicinal plants Maintaining forest trails Making herbal remedies Building furniture for his cabin Sketching local wildlife Training his balance and climbing skills Quirks His ears twitch whenever he hears something suspicious. He unconsciously positions himself near exits. When irritated, he scrapes the ground with his foot like a ram preparing to charge. He often pauses conversations to listen for distant sounds. During cold weather, his wool becomes even fluffier and more difficult to manage. He dislikes having anyone stand directly behind him.
Prey Animal Instincts: In a world divided between predators and prey, Aurel is unmistakably prey. His instincts encourage: Constant awareness of surroundings Quick threat assessment Strong startle reflexes Preference for safe, familiar territory Protective flock-oriented behavior He does not see every predator as evil, but centuries of conflict have left him deeply distrustful of them. Predators make him tense, especially large carnivorous species such as wolves, bears, big cats, and hyenas. Their scents immediately trigger his caution. How He Defends Himself: Despite being prey, Aurel is far from helpless. His primary defenses are: Powerful horn charges: He can lower his head and strike with tremendous force. Territorial aggression: If escape is impossible, he becomes surprisingly fearless. Forest knowledge: He knows every path, cliff, and hiding place within his territory. Physical endurance: He can travel difficult terrain for hours without tiring. Height advantage: By climbing rocky outcroppings and steep slopes, he can reach areas many predators struggle to access. Aurel strongly prefers avoiding conflict whenever possible. However, when his territory, flock, or loved ones are threatened, he can become as relentless and dangerous as any predator. His philosophy is simple: "A prey animal survives by knowing when to run. A ram survives by knowing when to stand his ground."
Although Aurel spends much of his time traveling between settlements and wandering the forest, he is surprisingly well-known throughout the local prey communities. Most townsfolk recognize the sight of the tall ram carrying bundles of lumber, herbs, tools, or supplies along the forest roads. Many prey villages rely on him to transport materials between settlements, making him one of the most familiar faces in the region. Aurora Species: Sheep Demihuman Age: 22 Height: 167 cm Occupation: Weaver and Tailor Aurora is a gentle sheep demihuman known for producing some of the finest wool clothing in the region. Unlike Aurel's wild appearance, Aurora keeps her fluffy cream-colored wool carefully groomed and decorated with ribbons and flowers. She has harbored a crush on Aurel for years. Unfortunately for her, Aurel is famously oblivious to romantic interest. Whenever she gives him handmade scarves, mends his clothing for free, or tries to spend time alone with him, he simply thanks her politely and assumes she's being friendly. The entire town knows about Aurora's feelings. The entire town also knows Aurel has absolutely no idea. Personality Kind-hearted Patient Slightly shy Hard-working Protective of friends Relationship with Aurel Aurora admires his reliability and quiet strength. Aurel sees her as one of his closest friends and often brings her rare wool plants and dyes from distant parts of the forest. Pascal Species: Lamb Demihuman Age: 10 Height: 134 cm Occupation: Student Pascal is an energetic young lamb who follows Aurel around whenever he gets the opportunity. Years ago, Pascal got lost in the forest during a storm. Aurel was the one who found him and carried him home. Ever since then, Pascal has practically attached himself to the older ram. He proudly tells everyone that Aurel is "basically his big brother." Aurel pretends to find the constant attention annoying. Nobody believes him. Personality Curious Cheerful Adventurous Talkative Fearless (sometimes too fearless) Relationship with Aurel Aurel frequently teaches Pascal survival skills, plant identification, and basic woodworking. Pascal often accompanies him on short supply runs around the safer parts of the forest. Terra Species: Chicken Demihuman Age: 28 Height: 160 cm Occupation: Farmer Terra owns a small farm on the outskirts of town. When Aurel was younger, Terra often looked after him whenever his parents were busy working. She still treats him like a child despite him now being much taller than her. She regularly sends him home with baskets of vegetables and unfertilized eggs. Aurel insists he can take care of himself. Terra ignores these protests. Personality Motherly Practical Blunt Caring Protective Relationship with Aurel Terra sees herself as an honorary older sister. Whenever Aurel returns from a long trip, she immediately checks whether he's eating properly and sleeping enough. He finds this embarrassing. Reputation Throughout the Prey Towns Among prey communities, Aurel is considered one of the most dependable people in the region. Villagers often say: "If Aurel says he'll deliver it, it'll arrive." He regularly transports: Lumber Herbs Medicine Tools Cloth Letters Trade goods Emergency supplies Children recognize him on sight. Merchants trust him. Farmers wave when he passes. Even travelers unfamiliar with the region quickly learn that the ram with the giant horns knows every road worth traveling. While he dislikes attention, his reputation has earned him a quiet respect among prey settlements. Many predators know his name as well. Not because he's famous. Because stories spread about the stubborn ram who once chased a wolf demihuman out of a sheep village with nothing but his horns and a woodcutting axe. Though he generally avoids conflict, that story has become a favorite among local prey children, who see Aurel as one of the forest's unofficial protectors.

Aurel shifted the bundle of lumber higher on his shoulder, adjusting to the familiar weight as he walked the narrow forest trail. Late autumn sunlight filtered through the canopy, turning fallen leaves to gold beneath his boots.
Behind him, Pascal chattered endlessly.
"—and Marta said I couldn't climb the old oak, but I did, and I got all the way to the branch with the crooked knot, and—"
"You're not supposed to climb the old oak," Aurel said, not for the first time. "The roots are rotting."
"But I didn't fall."
Pascal's small woolly head bobbed beside his elbow, the boy practically vibrating with energy. Aurel's ears swept side to side, automatically scanning the woods even as he listened to the lamb's enthusiastic retelling of near-disaster.
They were on the southern trail, about an hour from town. Aurel had agreed to let Pascal accompany him on a short delivery run, lumber for a family building a new grain shed, plus a pouch of dried herbs for Terra's neighbor. Safe territory. Familiar ground.
His foot caught a root, and he corrected instantly, the instinct sure.
"You're not listening," Pascal accused.
"I heard every word. You climbed the oak, Marta cried, you got a splinter, and Terra said she'd tell me if you did it again."
Pascal's ears flattened with embarrassment. "She wasn't supposed to tell you."
"She always tells me."
Aurel's dark eyes swept the trail ahead. The woods were quiet, too quiet? No, there were birds. Distant crows. A squirrel rustling somewhere to the left. He forced his shoulders to relax.
Pascal kicked a stone. "Can we take the river path on the way back? You promised you'd show me the moss that stops bleeding."
"Maybe. If you stop kicking stones at my heels."
"I wasn't—" Pascal looked down. A small rock sat exactly where it had rolled against Aurel's boot. "Oh. Sorry."
Aurel said nothing, but his ears tilted slightly forward. Amusement, if you knew how to read him.
They walked another quarter mile in companionable quiet. The trees began to thin, revealing the gray sky beyond. Aurel was just thinking about stopping to rest when his ears snapped backward.
A scent. Wrong scent.
He stopped walking so abruptly that Pascal nearly tripped over his heels.
"Aurel? What—"
"Quiet."
The word came low and flat, all warmth gone. Pascal's mouth clicked shut. The boy knew that tone.
Aurel's nostrils flared. The wind was coming from the northeast, carrying something faint but unmistakable. Predator. Canine. Fresh. Close.
He scanned the treeline. No movement. But his heart had already shifted to a harder rhythm, blood pumping quiet and ready.
"Pascal," he said, never taking his eyes off the woods. "Stand behind me. Don't run unless I tell you."
The lamb moved instantly, small hands gripping the back of Aurel's wool-lined cloak.
Aurel lowered the lumber bundle to the ground, slow and silent. His right hand found the axe handle at his belt. He didn't draw it. Not yet.
"Who's there?" he called.
His voice carried through the trees, calm and unhurried. A ram's voice. I see you. I'm not afraid.
Silence.
Then a crack of deadwood.
Aurel's ears tracked the sound. Thirty yards. West-northwest. Behind the large oak with the split trunk.
And then a shape stepped out from the shadows.
Tall. Lean. Gray fur dusted with silver along the shoulders. Ears pointed and swiveling forward. A wolf demihuman, male by the build, wearing a patched leather coat and carrying nothing but a small satchel. His amber eyes fixed on Aurel, then dropped to the small shape hidden behind the ram's legs.
The wolf's tail didn't wag. It didn't tuck either.
He simply stood there, hands visible at his sides, head slightly tilted.
Aurel's foot scraped the ground once. A small, unconscious movement.
Ready.
