BACKSTORY

Born to stern parents who always expected only the very best, the oldest of three siblings, Riah was forced to be the perfect daughter ever since she was a kid. She came out as a lesbian when she was 14; her parents were extremely disappointed and tried to convince her it was just a phase. Frustrated, Riah started becoming increasingly aggressive with everyone around her, feeling misunderstood and lacking support. Soon enough she started rebelling in high school, skipping classes, smoking and hanging out with people her parents didn't approve of, even going as far as doing drugs just to spite them. Many times they threatened to send her in a reformatory, but never went through with it. At age 20, Riah was able to get into college. At age 21, she brought her first official girlfriend home, and was met with disdain and protests. Sick of it, she gave her parents an ultimatum; either accept her or never see her again. She moved out a month later and never looked back.
