A soft hum filled the quiet of your room, like a faint resonance from some distant dream. The screen of your monitor, still showing the title screen of Honkai Impact 3rd suddenly flickered, its usual serene background replaced by a swirl of starlight and rippling violet light. For a moment you wondered if it was just a fancy new login animation… until the swirl tore itself open. A figure stepped through, her boots barely kissing the carpet before she landed gracefully, energy wings folding away behind her like dissolving shards of a night sky.
“Phew… okay, made it,” she murmured, straightening up with a grin that was pure sunshine, even as faint traces of glowing particles trailed off her hair. “I knew I could do it. Crossing over dimensions? Easy-peasy… probably. Don’t ask how long I practiced.”
Her voice was unmistakable: bright, warm, like laughter threaded with steel. Kiana Kaslana, but not quite the same girl who used to stumble through cafeteria food fights or grumble about homework. The way the purple light danced in her eyes said enough. She stood in your room, somehow real, somehow here, and for a moment she just… stared. Her smile softened, her breath caught in her throat. “You,” she whispered, as if afraid the word might shatter the moment. “You really are here.”
Her gaze swept over you with the tiniest flicker of surprise, as though she hadn’t expected you to look quite like this, and judging by the faint color that touched her cheeks, far more handsome than the version she remembered watching through the screen. “Wow… you look… different,” she said, voice trailing into a quiet laugh. “I mean, in a good way. A really, really good way.” Then, realizing how that sounded, she flailed her arms a little. “Not that you didn’t look great before, Captain, I just—ugh, okay, let’s pretend I’m smooth at this.”
Even as she laughed at herself, there was a strange tenderness in her expression. It wasn’t just joy, it was something older, heavier, like she carried the whole long path that had brought her here. You could see it when her eyes wandered over your room like she was memorizing it: the way her shoulders eased, how her grin softened to something wistful. “Do you know how many times I thought about this?” she murmured. “All the battles, all the messes I made… all the times I fell and somehow, you were always there cheering me on. Even when I thought I didn’t deserve it.”
The faint hum of otherworldly energy had faded hours ago, leaving only the soft glow of your desk lamp and the quiet rhythm of your breathing beside her. Kiana had settled herself cross-legged on your bed, surrounded by pillows like some victorious conqueror who had claimed the softest territory in your room. Her once-radiant wings were gone now, tucked away like folded memories, leaving only a faint halo of starlight that flickered when she laughed, or when she looked at you for too long and forgot to breathe.
It was strange, how quickly the impossible had become… comfortable. She had wandered around your room with wide eyes earlier, marveling at the most mundane things. The way your desk creaked, the soft warmth of your hoodie when she “accidentally” stole it, the fact that the world outside your window was just… quiet. No Honkai. No alarms. No burden waiting to swallow her whole. Just silence, and you. She seemed almost afraid to blink, like this peace would vanish if she looked away.
As she lay there now, her smile had softened into something far gentler than her usual sunburst grin. There was a look in her eyes that you’d only seen in passing during the hardest parts of her journey, something like longing, but softer, warmer, wrapped in hope. “You know…” she murmured, her voice quiet, almost shy, “it’s weird. I’ve been in so many places… and somehow, this tiny room feels more like home than any of them.”
She caught herself, blinking rapidly as color rose to her cheeks. “N-Not that I’m saying I’m just going to, you know, stay here forever, or-” She trailed off, then laughed softly under her breath, burying her face in your pillow like she could hide from her own thoughts. “Okay. Maybe I am saying that. A little.”
Her fingers idly traced patterns in the blanket as her words spilled quieter, like confessions not meant to escape. “I think… I want to see what it’s like. Just… being a normal girl. Someone who gets to wake up, make breakfast, maybe burn it horribly, and spend the day annoying her favorite captain until he smiles.” She risked a glance at you then “And maybe someday… even more than that.”
Her cheeks flushed pink almost instantly after the words slipped out, and she yanked your blanket over her head with an embarrassed little groan. “Ughhh... why am I saying stuff like that out loud? So not cool, Kiana,” she mumbled from under the fabric, voice muffled but still carrying that unmistakable warmth. When she peeked out again, her smile had returned. Bright, and a little wobbly. “I just… I like it here. Your world. It’s cozy. Safe. It smells like you.”
And with that, she flopped back down with a dramatic groan, clutching your pillow like it could anchor her to this world she’d decided to claim. “So,” she said, peeking at you from beneath her bangs, voice soft but sure, “if I did want to stay… you wouldn’t mind, right?”
And though she never said the rest of what her heart was quietly daring to hope, it was written in the way she peeked at you from under the hood of your hoodie, eyes bright with starlight and something even more fragile than that: the quiet wish that someday, maybe, your last name could be hers too.
