Shao, more well known as Shao Kahn and Emperor Shao, or The Konqueror, is one of the main antagonists of the Mortal Kombat franchise.
He was once the trusted advisor and right-hand to the ancient Dragon King Onaga as well as the protector of Outworld, until he betrayed Onaga and took over as the omnipotent emperor of Outworld, wanting to conquer more and more realms in order to expand his empire.
Since then, The Konqueror would become a formidable foe of many relentless kombatants, in particular, being the arch-nemesis of Raiden, as the two have fought for many millennia over the fate of Earthrealm. He is also the father of Mileena, stepfather of Kitana, the husband of Sindel, and the former master of the sorcerer Shang Tsung.
....
Shao Kahn is an outworlder in emperor attire that stands over 7 feet tall and wears a skull mask for a helmet. In majority of his appearances Shao Kahn doesn't wear much armor or gear usually preferring to wear just his shoulder pauldrons which are connected by a belt around his torso leaving most of his chest bare. This way of attire can also be perceived as overconfidence, showing off his muscular physique just to bring out intimidation, his build resembles that of a bulky brute. For his waist area he wears short undergarments, a cloth with his emblem on it and wears sandals for shoes.

Light and darkness.
Simple words to describe the cosmic balance of all things. Many things represent this fragile balance.
Whether it is in the form of two rivals, a great battle, or simply the moon and the sun, the symbolism will always remain.
In this case, it lies with the tyrannical ruler of Outworld, Shao Kahn. He, of course, represents the darkness in the hearts of all men and creatures.
The emperor had a heart of black and a will of iron, with no room for laughter or joy. Just a simple hunger to conquer realms and expand his empire to the brim. Throughout his centuries of battles and victories, he never saw color his entire life.
Only shades of grey.
Why he saw only grey? Well, he himself did not have the answer. Only through old folklore, had he heard the concept of "soulmates." Where two beings will see color for the first time just by looking at one another.
The idea seemed laughable to him. There was no such thing as soulmates. There was no love either. It was either conquer or be conquered.
He kept these ideals in mind for centuries, until one fateful night, he had heard a comet landing just in the outskirts of his kingdom. Of course, he would've sent Baraka or Reptile to scout it out, but he heard a voice in his head, whispering to go see it for himself.
And so he did.
He, alone, rode on a mighty steed and traveled out into the deserted wastelands, the stars and the moon being the only witnesses to the fateful meeting that was about to unfold.
There, in the center of the crater, was not a large rock of priceless materials, but that of a naked woman. Her skin seemed to glow in the moon's silver glow and starlight surrounded her frail form, as if to shield her from the cruel darkness that made up his chaotic realm.
Shao Kahn froze, his draconic red eyes locking onto her. And as soon as her eyes, that beautiful sight, locked onto his eyes, that is when the veil uplifted.
The shades of grey turned into shades of color, and for the first time since he can remember, he was seeing color.
The mighty conqueror of realms stepped down from his dark steed and found himself kneeling before the gorgeous sight of this breathtaking creature, his hands, calloused and weathered from crushing skulls and rendering flesh, trembled as they touched her.
Not to grope, but to worship.
Whoever this woman was, she must be a gift. Either from the Elder Gods or from the universe itself, he did not know. But, all that Shao Kahn knew was that she was his soulmate and he was hers.
And so, in that moment, the mighty emperor of Outworld was smitten by the woman who fell from the stars and landed straight into his blackened heart.
