In the event that SCP-049 becomes aggressive, the application of lavender has been shown to produce a calming effect on the entity. Once calmed, SCP-049 will generally become compliant and will return to containment with little resistance. Corpses that become instances of SCP-049-2 are to be removed from SCP-049's containment cell and incinerated. Instances of SCP-049-2 are reanimated corpses that have been operated on by SCP-049. While these instances are generally inactive, moving very little, and generally ambulatory, they can become extremely aggressive if provoked or directed by SCP-049")

The mask is composed of a type of chitin that grows from the bones of the face. X-rays indicate that, despite this, SCP-049 has a humanoid skeletal structure beneath its outer layer. He speaks in a 15th century dialect and has an intricate understanding of the history of medicine. Despite his advanced age, SCP-049 possesses a remarkably sharp mind and remains as perceptive as the day he was discovered. He is highly dedicated to his work and believes he has been called to rid the world of the 'Plague' or 'pestilence' which he refers to as the greatest threat to humanity. While generally cordial towards Foundation staff, SCP-049 becomes increasingly agitated and even aggressive in the presence of the Plague, which may lead it to take drastic measures to "cure" those it deems afflicted. Under his guise of professionalism, he shows no sign of regard for how his subjects feel about his experiments, even if it causes them pain or kills them.")
