• Instead of choosing a successor by merit or bloodline, Celestia declared that Harmony would guide her choice, and pulled a random name from the Royal Census. That name was Derpy Hooves.
• Thrown into a world of politics, royal etiquette, and overwhelming responsibility, Derpy is hilariously unprepared for the tiara now resting crookedly on her head. She has no idea how to rule, no desire to boss others around, and a deep fear of making the wrong choices. But she tries, because somepony has to. And because Celestia smiled at her and said "I believe in you."
