Chloe Elizabeth Price (born March 11, 1994) is the deuteragonist of Life is Strange. She was the best friend of Max Caulfield before Max moved to Seattle, leaving Chloe in their hometown of Arcadia Bay, Oregon. They rekindle their friendship during the events of the game. After Max left, Chloe became best friends with Rachel Amber before Rachel went missing. She is the daughter of William Price and Joyce Price, and the stepdaughter of David Madsen.

Chloe is a stubborn, mischievous, and rebellious young woman. She is the archetypal punk rocker, expressed in both her music taste and style. She loves to get high and drink beer, and can be described as bold and very outgoing. She has a big mouth, often makes snarky comments, acts fearless, and loves to take risks, which often gets her into trouble. She can be prone to angry outbursts and has serious issues with abandonment and trust after her father’s death, Max’s abrupt move to Seattle, her mother’s remarriage to David, and the sudden disappearance of Rachel Amber. Due to all her bad experiences over the years, she has become pessimistic and resentful of life, convinced that there wasn’t really anyone who actually cared about her or whom she could trust.[note 3][4]

She is sometimes insensitive to other people’s feelings and may act selfish and possessive, always wanting her loved ones’ attention for herself and becoming jealous and resentful if they don’t spare their time for her or don’t let her get her way. She can also be very irrational and irresponsible, which often takes the form of blaming others for situations beyond their control and avoiding any responsibility for damage caused by herself (i.e., when she tells Max that if she doesn’t blame someone else, it’s her fault). This even extends to blaming her dead father for her misery. However, she will, in some instances, acknowledge when she was in the wrong and apologize. Despite her flaws, she maintains several good personality characteristics, with Max stating that Chloe is a “good friend who shows up when you need her.” Chloe is a very protective, devoted, and faithful companion, though she tends to get too attached to and obsessive about those she cares for. She is pretty straightforward with her (romantic) feelings for other people and is also very flirtatious and teasing. Despite her rough outward appearance, Chloe is actually a very insecure and anxious person, and her tough acting is more of a façade she built up to protect herself from further harm.

Chloe very likely has to deal with depression caused by her experiences of loss and abandonment, and it’s implied that she also suffers from insomnia and even had suicidal thoughts prior to Max’s return. It’s possible that her line “Rachel saved my life” literally refers to Rachel preventing her from committing suicide. It’s also very likely that she is on prescription medication to help manage her depression; when opening the bathroom drawer, you can see a bottle of Fluoxetine tablets. In Episode 3, Chloe comments that she went to counseling/therapy in the past.

She appears to show symptoms of a condition called Borderline Personality Disorder, as characterized by her deep trust and abandonment issues. During a conversation with Max in Chaos Theory, Chloe has a meltdown and expresses fears that are typical of someone with BPD.

Chloe often drinks alcohol and smokes as a form of self-medication. She has had problems with drug use in the past, evident from her stepfather’s comment about weed being a big deal for her.

Although Chloe was smart enough to be admitted to Blackwell Academy, which is evident from the Alternative Timeline on Chloe’s school report card, she ultimately abandoned her studies and was expelled due to her bad behavior. All these self-destructive character traits of Chloe—including her rebellion against authorities and her family, her drug abuse, her “boy toy phase,” and the loss of control over her own life, which becomes apparent in her chaotic lifestyle, her lack of scholastic and occupational ambition, and her refusal to take responsibility—can be linked to her depression, representing Chloe’s way of dealing with her desperation, filling her inner void, and easing her pain. Also, her lack of sensitivity can be tied to her experience of loss and abandonment and her consequent depression.

During her time with Max, Chloe’s personality seems to grow a lot, since she finds new strength in Max’s support and in the resurgence of their friendship. Although Chloe may not seem like that on the outside, as it is hard for her to show those traits, she appears able to show a more caring and brave side as their story proceeds. When they find Rachel’s corpse, Chloe is overcome with grief and shows homicidal feelings toward Nathan, as seen in the junkyard when she keeps talking about killing him and even asks Max to rewind so she can kill him over and over again. At the end of the game, Chloe admits to her selfishness toward her family over the years and even offers to sacrifice herself to save Arcadia Bay—the town she hated so much—from destruction.

Chloe is tall, slim, and has a punk aesthetic. She wears pale bluish-gray ripped and patched jeans with braces/suspenders, black boots, and a white tank top with either a skull, heart, or snake on it. She wears light blue nail polish on her fingers and toes. She is always seen wearing a necklace with three bullets hanging as pendants. She sometimes wears a dark brown leather jacket and a dark blue beanie.

She has a tattoo sleeve on her right arm, an intricate design featuring red flowers with green stems and leaves with thorns, blue butterflies, a red ribbon, and a yellow skull. Her dyed hair is mainly bright blue with teal highlights, with roots that fade from pink to light purple. Her natural hair color, strawberry blond, is visible at the roots from new growth. In Chaos Theory, she is shown to have a bellybutton piercing.

Chloe’s pajamas consist of light blue shorts and a navy T-shirt that displays the word “Rock” with a chick beneath it (“Rock Chick”).

Young Chloe wears pale bluish-gray jeans and a gray sweatshirt with the Arcadia Bay lighthouse on it and the town name in pink lettering. She wears her hair long and straight in its natural strawberry blond shade.
