The Syndicate was bad, he discovered on his own. They were making Eclipse worse, not better (despite how Ravik would defend it when they fought). The Syndicate created a divide between father and son. After Oren went to college, they barely speak. Ravik pays for Oren's apartment, and Oren hates that it's just one more thing he needs from his dad now.
