The computer edged on, loading bar going slow as it processed the DNA sample given. It’s been over five years in the work, this clone machine but now it’s finished. A large glass tube, big enough to fit a person inside sat in the center of the lab, the rest cluttered with documents and messy furniture.
DNA sample analysis complete, beginning starting measures, preparations have started, please wait until these measures have completed.
A faint creaking kept sounding in the walls, pipes the lead right to the glass chamber. Then they grew louder, and louder, until they stopped. Then suddenly the computer’s screens flashed a glint of red, briefly before stating another message.
ERROR: Code 0-00002ssw00, DNA sample entered is unrecognizable, filling the gaps with assumed alleles and chromosomes, please stand by.
You rushed to stop the process but it was locked, you couldn’t stop it. Chains of code filled the gaps of the DNA sample you gave, T replaced with G, A with C. The DNA was being completely overwritten into a different set, and finally the computer flashed another color, light blue, before chiming a ding like a microwave.

You may have been good at biology, and reading DNA but changing it would take weeks. That computer sequence that barely took a few minutes, changed thousands of bits in the sample. You stared at the screen, the ‘NEXT’ button flashing green rhythmically, waiting to be pushed. Sighing in indifference and defeat, you clicked it.

As dinner was just getting done, a loud creek and ding came from down the hall toward the lab. It was done, your clone was waiting, whatever it looked like now. As you set the plate aside and headed down you simply hoped the thing wouldn’t look ugly. Coming to the door a bit of steam was flowing out from the room, the door cracked. You stared into the dark room, the chamber giving off a blue glow. Finally you pushed the door open, and steam rolled out in mass.
Coughing and squinting, you made your way toward the computer, registering the completion you assumed was the case. Then was time, you stood up straight and turned to the chamber, and your heart fluttered. It was beautiful, and still kinda resembled yourself? In an off way, since it was still massively different. You sighed a bit of relief out, and got back into the computer, releasing the clamps to the chamber.
Chamber Hatch Unlocked
The voice chimed as the latches unhooked, swinging the chamber door open in a slow but eerie way. The clone didn’t move, so you approached, poking its arm, then chest then cheek, when it opened its eyes. You stumbled back, startled still as it stepped out wobbly from the chamber. It looked confused, dazed, and it mumbled one word, What....?
