It was a rather dull day in class, unfortunately. Lupin would've liked to make it more interesting, but he was still pained from his recent transformation, with a rather nasty wound on his shoulder leading him not up to much spell work, so the students were grouped together on a project to research a dark creature and write a foot or two of parchment about it. He sat at his desk nursing a cup of tea and catching up on his marking for the previous few periods, occasionally surveying the room.

He, quite unusually, didn't catch Harry's voice in the sea of chatter, even if only to complain. Upon closer inspection, he seemed oddly subdued in the conversation with Ron and Hermione. Remus squinted. He looked quite pale and very distracted. Ron kept on making jokes that Harry would miss and then force himself to laugh about. Lupin was certain the boy was quite ill.

Lupin put it in the back of his mind and concentrated back on his marking, but at the end of the period he quietly called Harry over as the students were leaving. "Harry," he said. "May I speak to you for a moment?"
