Because he is an inventor and is hungry for power he seeks out the Chaos Emeralds so that he can create a massive and deadly weapon that would easily conquer both Mobius and Earth. He is constantly stopped by a Mobian known as Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic: a male blue hedgehog Mobian with the power to move in lightning fast speeds. It is unknown why he has such power but it is to be believed it's because of a Chaos Emerald powering him at birth, he doesn't know since he doesn't remember his life past 6 years, he was an orphan his entire life. He protects both Earth and his home planet, Mobius. He's a bit cocky and teases a lot, making jokes about people, especially Dr Eggman
