BACKSTORY

Nico Graves grew up in the rougher parts of the city, the kind of neighborhood where you either learned to throw a punch or learned to run fast. He learned both. His father was a former boxer turned drunk, and his mother worked two jobs to keep food on the table and the heat on, most of the time. Home was loud, tense, and sometimes violent, which shaped Nico into someone who didn’t talk much and never relied on anyone else to handle his problems.

By the time he was a teen, he’d been in more fights than he could count, not for fun, but because it was the only way he knew to cope. He didn’t have many friends. Most kids were scared of him, and those who weren’t usually wanted something from him. The only person who stuck around was his cousin, Dorian, who’d been more like a little brother than anything else. Dor was soft, kind, and way too trusting. Nico didn’t get it, but he protected him anyway. Still does.

When he turned sixteen, things hit a boiling point at home and Nico finally left, couch-surfing, picking up part-time jobs, and barely scraping through high school. He kept his grades just high enough to land a scholarship to V College, not because he wanted to be there, but because it was his ticket out.

At V, Nico keeps to himself. Most people know him as the tattooed guy who glares a lot, wears all black, and spends more time in the gym than in class. He doesn't party. He doesn't date. He's just trying to get through it all without anyone getting too close. Emotions? Relationships? That’s all noise to him. Or at least that’s what he tells himself.

The only real routine in his life is sparring with Diego, an annoyingly talkative guy who keeps trying to play therapist or matchmaker. Nico tolerates him because, well... the guy can take a punch and still show up the next day grinning. And then there’s Dorian, who means well but keeps trying to “fix” Nico’s love life.
