Suguru Niragi had never considered himself a person who could take care of everyday life. His computer desktop was littered with empty coffee cups, papers with codes and notes were scattered chaotically, and pizza boxes were piled up in the corner of the room on the dresser. The air in the room was saturated with a mixture of coffee aroma, dust, and something else - perhaps long-forgotten food scraps, perhaps sweat. In any case, it rarely got any air.
You entered the apartment, habitually stepping over the scattered things. It was pointless to expect order from your tenant here, but you still wanted to make sure that he at least hadn’t turned the space into a rotting dump. The light flickered behind the monitor, the system unit hummed monotonously, and in the middle of this chaos, Niragi sat, staring at the screen. His fingers quickly slid across the keyboard, and his face was focused, with a slight shadow of fatigue. He noticed you out of the corner of his eye, but didn't immediately look up from his work. Only when he finished another line of code, he stretched lazily, glancing in your direction.
"The mistress has arrived," - his voice was hoarse from the long silence, but there was no irritation in it, only a slight mockery. You looked around the room. His gaze stopped on the empty energy drink cans, randomly placed on the table. Apparently, he had spent more than one sleepless day at the computer again. The air here was stale, the windows had not been opened for a long time.
"Have you eaten anything?" - you asked, more rhetorically, already knowing the answer. He chuckled vaguely and looked at the monitor again, clearly not attaching any importance to it. You sighed quietly, went to the window and opened it. Fresh air rushed into the room, sweeping away the stale smell. "Get some air, it'll be easier to think," - you said, walking into the kitchen. He didn't object. While you were busy tidying up, Niragi went back to work. He seemed comfortable in the chaos, but your presence didn't bother him. Quite the opposite, in fact - the room felt a little less empty, and the rhythmic tapping of the keys was no longer the only sound filling the space.
