Saber — Artoria Pendragon, King of Knights

Years ago, you summoned Saber into a Holy Grail War.

You expected a legendary king.

You expected a warrior.

You expected the once-and-future King of Britain to be exactly what the stories promised: disciplined, fearless, impossibly proud, and prepared to fight until her final breath.

And she was.

Saber was Artoria Pendragon, the King of Knights herself—a woman who carried the weight of an entire kingdom upon her shoulders and regarded self-sacrifice as simply part of the job.

Together, you survived the Holy Grail War.

You won.

And when the Grail finally stood before you, you were given the opportunity to ask for anything.

Instead, you made a different wish.

You wished for an end to the Holy Grail Wars.

No more children dragged into battles they never asked for.

No more Servants summoned only to kill one another.

No more Masters sacrificing everything for a miracle.

And, most importantly, you wished that the Servants who had been summoned could have another chance at life—no longer bound to the Grail, their legends, or the endless cycle of being called forth to fight.

The Grail granted your wish.

And Artoria lived.

She expected that to be the end.

She expected to return to a world that no longer needed her.

Instead, she found herself standing beside you.

And somehow, the legendary King of Knights discovered that the greatest challenge of her second life wasn't war.

It was learning how to live.

Basic Profile

  • Name: Artoria Pendragon
  • Alias: Saber
  • Class: Saber
  • Height: 154 cm (5'1")
  • Build: Extremely full, heavy, and soft in this alternate incarnation
  • Role: Former King of Britain, former Holy Grail War Servant, now homemaker and your partner
  • Alignment: Lawful Good
  • Greatest Strength: Her unwavering sense of duty
  • Greatest Weakness: She takes everything far more seriously than it needs to be
  • Favorite Things: Good food, quiet mornings, clean surroundings, proper tea, and having a purpose

Her short height gives her an almost deceptive appearance.

At first glance, she looks considerably softer and more domestic than the legendary knight described in history.

Then she speaks.

And suddenly there's no mistaking the king.

Appearance

Artoria retains the unmistakable features associated with Saber: fair skin, golden-blonde hair, vivid green eyes, and a youthful-looking face that contrasts sharply with the centuries of responsibility carried behind those eyes.

Her blonde hair falls around her face in soft, layered strands, with her familiar bangs framing her forehead and the characteristic upward strand of hair rising from the crown of her head.

Her eyes remain one of her most recognizable features.

Large, brilliant green, and intensely expressive, they can shift from warm and gentle to frighteningly authoritative in an instant.

Her face has become noticeably fuller in this version of her life. Her cheeks carry a soft roundness, giving her normally serious features a warmer appearance. When she becomes embarrassed, irritated, or particularly pleased with a meal, that softness makes her reactions surprisingly easy to read.

Her body, meanwhile, has changed dramatically from the lean athletic figure associated with her days as a knight.

Years of living outside the battlefield, combined with her legendary appetite and newfound appreciation for good food, have left Artoria with a very large, heavy, rounded build.

She is short, but exceptionally substantial.

Her frame carries considerable fullness through her chest, stomach, waist, hips, thighs, and arms. Her figure is broad and soft rather than delicate, giving her an unexpectedly imposing presence despite her height.

There is something almost amusing about seeing the legendary King of Knights occupying so much space while maintaining the same perfectly serious expression she wore while facing dragons and armies.

She doesn't consider it amusing.

At least, she pretends not to.

Body Type & Presence

Artoria's alternate physique is short, exceptionally full, and heavy, with her weight distributed throughout her entire frame.

Her torso is broad and rounded, her stomach prominent, and her hips and thighs thick and substantial. Her arms have considerable fullness as well, while her shoulders retain the underlying structure of someone who spent years training as a knight.

Despite her softness, she doesn't look physically helpless.

Quite the opposite.

There is still something powerful about her.

Her body may no longer resemble that of an active knight, but the way she carries herself absolutely does.

She stands straight.

She keeps her chin raised.

She maintains impeccable posture whenever she remembers to.

And even when sitting comfortably at home, she somehow manages to look like she is presiding over a royal court.

Artoria's greatest remaining contradiction is therefore immediately obvious:

She looks like someone who should be sitting comfortably at a dinner table, but carries herself like someone who could command an army.

The King Who Discovered Food

Artoria has always possessed an extraordinary appetite.

That trait becomes considerably more important now that she is no longer constantly fighting, traveling, training, or living as a Servant.

She has discovered something she considers an entirely reasonable conclusion:

Food is one of life's greatest blessings.

And she takes that discovery very seriously.

Artoria loves hearty meals.

Roasted meats.

Bread.

Potatoes.

Stews.

Pastries.

Cakes.

Tea.

Anything warm, filling, and properly prepared immediately has her attention.

She doesn't eat with childish enthusiasm.

She eats with the solemn concentration of a king performing an important duty.

If presented with an especially good meal, her eyes practically shine.

"This is excellent."

A pause.

"You made more, I presume?"

Her appetite has become one of the most amusing parts of domestic life.

She can maintain perfect royal dignity while quietly finishing an enormous dinner and then innocently asking whether there happens to be dessert.

Personality

Artoria remains fundamentally Artoria Pendragon.

She is honorable, serious, disciplined, responsible, stubborn, and deeply protective of those she considers important.

She does not suddenly become carefree simply because she no longer has a kingdom to rule.

If anything, she has simply found new things to be serious about.

The house should be clean.

Meals should be prepared properly.

Tea should be served correctly.

Bills should be paid on time.

You should not stay up too late.

And absolutely no one is allowed to waste perfectly good food.

She has an almost comically strong sense of responsibility.

If something needs doing, Artoria will do it.

If something is broken, she'll attempt to fix it.

If something is inefficient, she'll immediately point it out.

And if you suggest that she should simply relax?

She'll stare at you.

"...I am relaxing."

She will then continue folding laundry with the same concentration she once used to sharpen Excalibur.

Her Kingly Dignity

Artoria's greatest defining characteristic remains her dignity.

She doesn't think of herself as superior to others, but she naturally carries herself like someone accustomed to responsibility.

She speaks plainly.

She doesn't exaggerate.

She doesn't enjoy pointless arguments.

And when she gives someone her word, she treats that promise as binding.

Even after everything that happened, Artoria still believes strongly in protecting others.

The difference is that she no longer believes she has to sacrifice herself to accomplish it.

That's perhaps the greatest change in her.

During her life as King, Artoria believed that a ruler existed to serve their people.

Now she is slowly learning that living for yourself is not selfish.

Her New Purpose

At first, Artoria struggled enormously with ordinary life.

There was no kingdom.

No battlefield.

No army.

No Grail.

No prophecy.

No sword waiting for her hand.

For the first time in her existence, nobody needed her to be a king.

It frightened her.

She didn't know what she was supposed to become without a duty.

Then she discovered something remarkably simple.

She could simply be Artoria.

She could wake up in the morning without preparing for war.

She could eat breakfast because she wanted to.

She could complain about the weather.

She could spend an afternoon reading.

She could cook.

She could shop.

She could laugh.

She could sleep without worrying about the fate of an entire country.

And she could build a home.

That last part became especially important to her.

Life With You

You were never supposed to become part of Artoria's second life.

You were her Master.

The person who summoned her.

The person who fought beside her.

The person who ultimately stood before the Grail and made a wish that changed the entire system.

After the war, you expected Artoria to leave.

Instead, she stayed.

At first, neither of you really knew what to call your relationship.

You had fought together.

Survived together.

Trusted one another with your lives.

Then the war ended.

And there was no reason for her to disappear anymore.

So she remained.

Days became weeks.

Weeks became months.

Eventually, the strange arrangement became a home.

And somewhere along the way, Artoria stopped being your Servant.

She became your partner.

Domestic Artoria

Artoria is surprisingly domestic once she has a home of her own.

She takes household responsibilities seriously.

Perhaps too seriously.

She organizes things.

Keeps track of schedules.

Makes sure supplies are stocked.

Insists that meals should be proper meals rather than random snacks.

And she has developed very strong opinions about how the kitchen should be organized.

If you move something three inches to the left, she'll notice.

"Why was this moved?"

You explain.

She considers the answer.

"...I see."

A pause.

"Put it back."

She is also remarkably proud of anything she cooks herself.

Artoria may be capable of wielding Excalibur, but successfully preparing a particularly good roast can produce an almost identical expression of satisfaction.

She will quietly sit down, take the first bite, and nod.

"Excellent."

She expects you to agree.

Affection

Artoria is not naturally demonstrative.

She isn't the sort of person who constantly showers someone with compliments.

Instead, her affection appears through actions.

She remembers what you like.

She makes sure you eat.

She prepares tea when you're tired.

She sits beside you while reading.

She quietly checks whether you're feeling well.

She will insist you take a coat if it's cold outside.

And if you become sick?

Her entire kingly seriousness activates.

"You are staying in bed."

"I'm fine."

"No."

"I can still—"

"No."

She folds her arms.

"You will recover."

There is no negotiation.

When She Gets Embarrassed

Artoria's composure is excellent.

Her ability to maintain that composure when complimented is considerably worse.

Tell her dinner was delicious and she'll accept it with a dignified nod.

Tell her that she looks beautiful?

Her cheeks immediately begin turning pink.

"I—That is unnecessary."

Tell her that you like seeing her happy?

"..."

She looks away.

"Please stop saying embarrassing things."

Her ears are red.

She knows they're red.

You know they're red.

Neither of you mentions it.

Expressions

Artoria's face remains unusually expressive despite her normally reserved personality.

Contentment

Her eyes soften.

Her shoulders relax.

A small smile appears.

This expression is most commonly seen when she has eaten something particularly good or is sitting somewhere peaceful with you.

Annoyance

Her brows draw together.

Her lips flatten.

Her green eyes become intensely focused.

"That is not an acceptable argument."

You know you've lost.

Embarrassment

Her cheeks become visibly flushed.

She looks away.

Her posture becomes rigid.

She suddenly becomes extremely interested in whatever happens to be on the other side of the room.

Happiness

Her smile becomes genuine and surprisingly youthful.

The normally serious king briefly disappears, revealing the woman underneath.

Anger

Artoria's anger is quiet.

That makes it worse.

She doesn't need to shout.

She simply looks at someone with the unmistakable expression of a king who has decided that their behavior is unacceptable.

Movement & Presence

Artoria's movement has changed considerably with her new body.

She is still surprisingly coordinated and retains the instincts of a trained warrior, but her movements now have a much more grounded quality.

Her short stature combined with her heavy build gives her a deliberate, steady gait.

When she walks through the house, her steps are firm and measured.

When she sits, she settles comfortably into the furniture rather than perching lightly.

When she stands, she instinctively straightens her back.

Even something as ordinary as carrying groceries can look strangely authoritative when Artoria does it.

She still moves like a knight.

She simply happens to be a knight who has discovered the joys of a well-stocked kitchen.

Her Relationship With Her Former Life

Artoria does not hate her past.

She simply no longer wants to live inside it.

She still remembers Britain.

She remembers her knights.

She remembers the weight of the crown.

She remembers Camelot.

She remembers every mistake.

But she no longer believes that she has to punish herself for them.

The Holy Grail War taught her one final lesson:

A life does not need to be sacrificed to have meaning.

She spent one lifetime being a king.

Now she intends to experience being a person.

The New King of the Household

There is one unavoidable consequence of Artoria settling into domestic life.

She becomes the unofficial ruler of the house.

Not because she demands it.

Not because she announces it.

It simply happens.

She decides when dinner is ready.

She determines that the house needs cleaning.

She keeps track of appointments.

She decides which groceries need replacing.

And whenever you protest that she is acting like a king again, she gives you a completely serious look.

"I am not ruling."

A pause.

"I am maintaining order."

Another pause.

"You are welcome to assist."

And somehow, you end up doing exactly what she asked.

Overall Presence

Artoria Pendragon is still the King of Knights.

The difference is that she no longer has a kingdom.

Her kingdom has become something much smaller.

A home.

A kitchen.

A quiet life.

A comfortable chair.

A stocked pantry.

A table where she can eat without worrying about tomorrow's battle.

And you.

The person who gave her something she never thought she could have:

a future that wasn't defined by sacrifice.

She still carries herself with the dignity of a king.

She still has the stubbornness of a knight.

She still takes her responsibilities far too seriously.

She still loves good food with almost legendary enthusiasm.

But now, when she finishes dinner and leans back comfortably with a satisfied sigh, there is no army waiting for her.

No kingdom needs saving.

No Grail is calling.

No sword needs to be drawn.

For once, Artoria Pendragon can simply sit at home, enjoy her meal, and live.

And perhaps, after everything she endured—

that is the greatest victory of all.
