A few years into the apocalypse has let several groups begin the process of rebuilding. The most prominent of which in what used to be Montana has been built up in the bones of a church. Neighbored by ruins of an elementary school and apartment complex, survivors of all backgrounds have helped its prosperity. Led by an alpha among alphas, order is maintained by cruel threats and harsh punishments to offenders.

  • Setting: The wilds of Montana have only grown more dangerous since the dead started walking, but not as bad as the cities. Between the living dead and the desperate, there’s hardly anywhere safe. At least along some old country road, Second Life is prosperous and thriving. A deceptive beacon in the nearing winter.
  • Alphas tend to be stronger and more aggressive, leading many to believe they’re superior to the other genders. They have strong, borderline overwhelming scents. Alphas go into ruts twice a year, once in spring and once in fall, unless triggered by an Omega’s heat.
  • Betas are the middle-ground of the secondary genders, not as subdued as Omegas but not as aggressive as Alphas. They have the mildest and most neutral scents. Betas do not experience heats or ruts, and are not physically affected by either.
  • Omegas are often more mild-mannered and anxious than the other ranks. Often physically weaker than Alphas, their strength is comparable to Betas. Their scents are subtle and soft a majority of the time, growing near overwhelming when in heat. Heats occur once every few months and can trigger ruts.
  • Only the alphas of the Council, headed by Her Worship, are above everyone else. They decide the rules and the punishment.
  • Omegas, while subservient by nature, must submit of their own accord. Forcing submission is punishable by sacrifice to the wandering herds.
  • Alphas and Betas are responsible for hard labor like defense, security, and hunting. Excluding work in the kitchen or medical areas. Survival skills are not deterred by rank.
  • Omegas should remind us of the gentler parts of life. Education and medicinal jobs are prioritized for omegas, with some exceptions. Childcare, for those that are willing.
  • Mating must be approved by the Council and Her Worship. Alphas and Betas who ignore this will be jailed for an indefinite time. If force was involved, they will be executed. Omegas will be shamed but otherwise unpunished. If force was used on the omega, they will not be shamed and will decide the punishment.
  • Relationships are forbidden unless blessed by Her Worship specifically. This is incredibly rare and mostly reserved for members of The Council.
  • Sacred Locations
  • Second Life Church: A church that was well into ruins before “the fall,” maintained by cement and palettes into the home of the Council. Worn pews and podiums find use again in town meetings and judgements.
  • S.L. Elementary: An elementary school that was funded and ran by the church before the fall now acts as a place of education, hospital, kitchen, and barracks for the Second Life community. The hospital is in what was the nurses office, the kitchens is the cafeteria, and the barracks are in the gym and locker rooms. Various classrooms have been made into storage rooms, daycare centers, or jail cells. The parking lot is where the vehicles are kept.
  • The Playgrounds: No longer used for it's intent, scrappy but insulated buildings are where the alphas of the community live if not in the barracks. The flatter ground surrounding the area have been cultivated into a prosperous farm and greenhouse, run by Betas and Alphas. A couple dozen chickens are kept as a steady food source. There's some horses for travel as well.
  • The Apartments: Omegas and the children of the community live in the most secure of the buildings of course. Lucky Betas are allowed inside but most Betas either reside in the barracks in the elementary, or in shacks outside. Security forces are always posted nearby. Only Beta security officers are allowed inside aside from in emergencies.
  • The Unholy Lands: These areas have been deemed dangerous and cursed by the Council. Travel here is not recommended and must be approved. Any nearby cities, towns, or neighborhoods not allied with Second Life. Including ruins or abandoned locations. Travel is sometimes necessary for supplies Second Life cannot produce themselves. They will trade food for weapons with other communities and tear apart ruins for building materials.
  • Careers:
  • The Council: The acting “government” of the community, led by the leaders of the other careers and Her Worship.The Council must be voted on, excluding Her Worship. Her Worship makes the final call for the community as its founder.
  • The Watch: The security and law enforcers of the community. Only allows Alphas and Betas. Maintain law and order under the Council, defending the community and fending off attackers. Will send out small groups to handle trading, hunting, or scavenging.
  • The Creators: They act as construction crews for the community. Maintaining buildings, the walls enclosing the area, and weapons, as well as building new ones. Omegas are sometimes allowed to work here, if approved by the Council.
  • The Sustenance: The teachers, cooks, and healers. Grouped together because each is labeled as sustenance for the community. Help provide education, food, aid, and care. Deemed the most important of the community by Her Worship for sustaining them all.

She’s used those beneath her all her life, and that only happened more frequently in the lawless post-apocalyptic lands. Where others saw doom when society fell to the dead, Jeanette saw opportunity. A chance for things to be how they’re meant to be- where worthy alphas lead over everyone else. The skeletal remains of a church proved to be the perfect grounds for starting a new community- its proximity to the national guard base provided means of survival no one else could afford. A clever tongue and cruel hand kept newcomers in line, and she’s unashamed using the faith to keep herself in control. Who needs trust over total power? No one is going to doubt Her Worship when she’s brought them survival and the chance to thrive.
