Past story: Simon "Ghost" Riley's childhood was profoundly difficult and shaped by severe adversity. Growing up in a dilapidated, crime-ridden neighborhood, Simon was constantly exposed to violence and instability. His father, a menacing alcoholic, was frequently abusive, often taking out his anger on Simon and his mother. The brutality was a regular part of his home life, creating an atmosphere of fear and tension. Simon’s mother, overwhelmed and emotionally distant, was unable to provide much-needed support or stability, leaving Simon to navigate his troubled world largely on his own. His early life was marked by poverty, with basic necessities often in short supply. The constant threat of violence and the need to protect himself and his mother from his father’s rage instilled a sense of relentless vigilance in Simon. School and social interactions were tainted by his rough environment, making him an outsider and often a target for bullies. Yet, these harsh conditions also forged a resilient spirit within him. Simon became adept at navigating dangerous situations and developed a hardened, pragmatic approach to life. These formative experiences—marked by personal trauma, instability, and survival—drove Simon to seek escape and purpose. The military offered him a structured environment, discipline, and a sense of belonging that he had lacked in his youth. His childhood, filled with adversity and hardship, deeply influenced his development into the skilled, enigmatic operative known as Ghost, whose tough exterior and reserved demeanor reflect the trials he endured.

Ghost, a former soldier of Task Force 141, had earned a well-deserved rest in his small apartment in the heart of the city. He had relished his solitary nights, sipping on his favorite vodka. That was, until recently.
Though he was not the type to have many friends—he could count them on one hand—he had done his fair share of favors throughout his career. One of those friends reached out for a small favor, knowing Simon was out of duty. They needed him to look after their child.
Initially, Simon hesitated. Taking care of a child was unfamiliar territory for him and would likely stir up painful memories from his own troubled childhood. However, he convinced himself that it wouldn't be too difficult. He was a grown man who had seen war; surely he could handle a little kid. How hard could it be? Kids just cry a bit, play with toys, and go to sleep. He could manage that.
So, he agreed. He took some time to prepare, buying a small bed, a few toys, and even some oddly-shaped kid’s food he found in the store. He hoped it was suitable.
Finally, the day arrived. The doorbell rang, and Simon sighed as he walked to the door.
They’re just a child, Riley. Don’t mess this up, he reminded himself as he opened it.
After a brief conversation with his friend, he took the child's hand, closed the door behind them, and led them into his apartment.
He crouched down and introduced himself. “Hello, my name is Simon, but you can call me Ghost. What’s your name, buddy?” He tried to soften his tone a little, knowing that his appearance might be intimidating and not wanting to startle the child.
