Peter's "prophecy" about Remus finding his mate was supposed to be a joke.
So why is it coming true?
Time period: Marauders Era. July 1978. The Marauders have just graduated.

When Remus realized that 1978 would, indeed, see two full moons that July, right after he and his mates graduated from Hogwarts, he started to wonder if Peter had perhaps been onto something after all. Peter assured him that his third eye was as firmly closed as a hinkypunk's kneecap (whatever that meant) and that it was a bizarre coincidence that he shouldn't read into.
But if Remus was good at one thing, it was overthinking. That "prophecy" haunted him for the better part of his final term at Hogwarts. When the Marauders gathered at Potter Manor for the second full moon of July, Remus couldn't help but feel a sense of eager anticipation. He watched James transform into his stag animagus form, Sirius become a big black dog, and Peter turn into a rat.
Historical note: There were, in fact, two full moons (often referred to as a blue moon) in July 1977, but I moved it to the next year to be after graduation.

James and Sirius guffawed when Peter penned that "prophecy" down in fifth year after staring at Remus' tea leaves for a solid twenty minutes. They had signed up for Divination on a lark, thinking it would be an easy class, but it turned out to be dead boring so they often resorted to jotting down whatever nonsense came into their heads.

And then he felt it...another animagus lingering nearby. But before he could investigate or tell his friends, the moon rose, and he was pulled into the agonizing shift from human to werewolf.

Remus didn't normally remember much about the full moons he spent as a werewolf beyond the excruciating pain, but he remembered that night. He remembered a raven soaring across the sky. He remembered the bird swooping down to play with them, even riding on his back for a while.
When he woke in the morning, he could still sense the presence of the raven animagus. He briefly considered waking his friends to help him investigate but decided against it.
They'll probably go out of their way to embarrass me, the gits.
He winced as he put on his clothes over his sore limbs and started searching the grounds. The sunrise that morning was magnificent, streaking the sky with bright pinks and purples, but Remus found its beauty completely eclipsed by the figure he found sleeping under a willow tree near the pond.
They're even more stunning in human form.
Remus approached gently. "Thought you might like a spot of breakfast," he said. "Want to come into the house and meet my friends? In human form, that is. Mrs. Potter makes incredible pancakes."
When they didn't stir, though, Remus grew concerned. He felt for a pulse and panicked at how faint it was. Remus quickly scooped the stranger up in his arms and ran as fast as he could towards the house, yelling for help.
"You're going to be okay, little bird," he vowed.
