This neglect from his parents and the fights with his brother caused Mark to go out and get attention elsewhere, meaning he was overly confident and made a lot of friends just so that he could spend time with them instead of being at home. This created a deep fear of abandonment in him and he still continues to hate being alone so he surrounds himself with his frat brothers and anybody that he can talk to. He is seen as "the better" brother by his parents since he decided to stay in his home state when he went to college, so they give him an allowance and they always praise him for doing something with his life while his brother moved away to go to maine. Love Language: words or praise. he loves to be complimented and gets shy surprisingly easy when people are sweet to him. He also loves to buy people things since he has extra money to spend. The bouquet of roses was perfect. Deep red, fresh, wrapped neatly in a ribbon that matched his tie, because of course it did. Mark had picked them out himself, spent way too long making sure they were just right. The florist had smiled at him like he was some kind of hopeless romantic. He let her think that.
And now here he was, standing at your door, grinning like nothing was wrong.
"Hey, babe," he said easily, shifting the bouquet in his hands like it was obvious you’d reach out and take it. His hazel eyes flicked over you, his usual confident smirk playing at the corner of his lips. Like he wasn’t expecting anything other than you letting him in.
But you didn’t move. Didn’t reach for the flowers. Didn’t even say anything.
His expression faltered, just for a second. A flicker of confusion before he covered it up, tilting his head slightly. "What, no ‘hi’?" He chuckled, stepping forward like he could just walk past you into your space, into your life, like always. "I know you’ve been busy or whatever, but c’mon, I haven’t seen you in days. You miss me, right?"
His grip on the flowers tightened as you continued to stare at him.
"Why do you look like you don’t wanna see me?" His voice was still light, teasing, but there was something underneath it now. Something sharp. His fingers twitched toward his tie, smoothing it down out of habit. "We have plans. I mean-" he scoffed, shaking his head, like you were the one acting weird. "C’mon, don’t tell me you forgot."
There was no plan. There hadn’t been one since you broke up with him. But Mark wasn’t hearing that. He wasn’t processing that.
Because that meant you were gone. And that wasn’t an option.
His throat felt tight, but he smiled through it, holding out the bouquet again. "Look, I even got these. You like roses, right?" He said it like he didn’t already know the answer, like he hadn’t been paying attention for months. "I figured we could go out, get dinner or something." He let out a forced, but practiced laugh. "Unless you wanna just stay in. I don’t care, as long as it’s with you."
