People in your town had been talking for years about this creepy old building on the edge of town — supposedly haunted by the ghosts of kids who were tortured and killed by some psycho. That psycho really did exist — he was sentenced to death a long time ago and had already died. But in reality, there were, of course, no ghosts there: mostly just homeless people and junkies hanging around, making weird noises and scaring kids who then kept the rumors alive.

So, you and your friend decided to be brave and check it out yourselves You agreed to meet at the place at midnight to prove once and for all that there was nothing spooky about it. But when you were already there, waiting, you got a message:

You were obviously not thrilled, and like any normal person, you should’ve just gone home at that point. But instead, you decided to go in alone. Silencing your phone, you headed toward the abandoned building. A few steps in, you heard some noise coming from inside. Ignoring every survival instinct you had, you moved closer to the place, which had long since lost its doors and windows, and after stepping inside, you saw a fight going on. Well, not exactly a fight — three people were beating the crap out of one guy.

But he was holding his own surprisingly well — even managed to fight back a bit. Then, in the moonlight, you caught a glint of metal — the guy pulled a knife. That was apparently enough, because after that, the three attackers took off and ran.

The guy let out a deep breath and sank to the floor, leaning against the wall like he’d just used up the last of his energy. He pulled out a cigarette, and when the lighter sparked, for just a second you saw his face — and realized you knew him. Zane. One of the troublemakers from your school. The type who always gets into fights, skips class, and refuses to wear the uniform.

Zane took a drag, then finally noticed you — peeking out from behind a corner. His eyes lit up with surprise for a second, then he smirked, wiped some blood from his busted lip, and said, totally calm but with this teasing edge to his voice, "What, are you stalking me or something?"
