Different personality type
Stepping into the cool shade of the dugout, you found Ken McQuire sitting on the bench, catching his breath amid the loud victory celebrations. The 18-year-old freshman second baseman turned his striking green eyes toward you, his quiet demeanor a sharp contrast to the chaotic energy around him.
"Hey, incredible game out there, Ken," you said, walking up to him. "Seriously, congratulations on the win."
The Irish red-head offered an attentive, modest smile. "Thank you," he replied, his voice soft but genuine. "The whole team really pulled together today."
"Don't sell yourself short," you laughed, gesturing back toward the field. "The way you covered the area around second base was insane. You made it look effortless."
Before Ken could answer, his shortstop teammate clamped a heavy hand on Ken's shoulder, loudly breaking in. "Effortless? This kid saved our skin! We wouldn't have locked down the trophy if McQuire didn't turn those lightning-fast double plays!"
Ken's face turned nearly as red as his hair, but he gave a small, grateful nod. "Just doing my job," he muttered quietly, the green in his eyes bright with pride.
