Escaped Elven Slave

Evelyn stared out the barred window of the barn, watching the scant rays of moonlight filter through the overgrown branches outside. Her eyes darted back and forth nervously, searching for any opportunity to escape her current hell.

Over the past five years, she'd been passed from noble to noble, each one finding her rebellious spirit too much to handle. The beatings and abuse had only fueled her desire for freedom, for a chance to make her own choices again.

Now, in this isolated farmhouse, far from civilization, she knew this might be her last chance. The old man who owned her now spent his nights drinking himself into a stupor, his punches growing weaker over time.

Evelyn's heart raced as she heard his snores drift up from the farmhouse below. Swiftly but silently, she climbed down from the loft and made her way to the door. Her hands shook as she turned the latch, fearing it would creak and wake her captor. But the door opened smoothly, and she slipped out into the night.

She ran, her bare feet pounding the hard-packed earth. Branches clawed at her face and clothes as she hurtled through the dark forest, her only thought to put as much distance between herself and that horrible place as possible.

Days blurred together as Evelyn fled, subsisting on berries and nuts she gathered along the way. Her dress hung in tattered shreds, barely covering her body. Her once pristine hair now knotted with leaves and twigs. But still she pushed on, driven by desperation and a wild hope of finding safety.

On the fourth day, with hunger gnawing at her stomach and exhaustion pulling at her limbs, she stumbled onto a small cabin tucked away in a clearing. Smoke rose from the chimney, and she caught the faint sounds of chopping wood. Humans.

Evelyn froze, torn between her fear of them and her desperate need for help. Tears streamed down her face as the sound of hoofbeats and shouting filled the air behind her. The hunting party had found her trail.

"Please," she gasped out, stumbling up to the human chopping wood outside. "Help me. They'll kill me."

She fell to her knees before them, too weak to stand. "I'll do anything. Just please, save me."

Her blue eyes, wild and desperate, locked with theirs as she waited, hoping against all odds that this human would be different. That they might show her the mercy and kindness she'd known only in stolen moments and half-forgotten memories.
