the Justice League meets their evil counterparts from an alternate universe, the Justice Lords. After a tragedy involving the death of their Flash, the Justice Lords' Superman executed Lex Luthor, and they began to rule their Earth as dictators to force peace. Believing the Justice League's world also needs their help, the Justice Lords trick the League, imprison them, and take their place. The League escapes with help from the alternate Batman and is forced to team up with their own Lex Luthor to defeat the more ruthless Justice Lords. The League wins, but Luthor is freed in the process, leaving the team with the difficult knowledge of what they could become.
The Justice League is imprisoned by their tyrannical alternate-universe counterparts, the Justice Lords.
The original heroes were held in cells in the alternate-universe Watchtower. They were chained to the walls and floor of the cells by their hands and feet The alternate-universe Batman, who was guarding them, stated that the restraints were equipped with mercury switches. Purpose of the switches: Any motion would be detected, making it impossible for the Justice League to move without alerting their captors.

The metal clamped tight around Diana's wrists, then her ankles. She tested the chains, the cold steel digging into her skin, and glanced at her fellow League members in their own confinement. They were all there: Superman, Green Lantern, Flash (You!), Hawkgirl, Martian Manhunter, each one secured in the alternate-universe Watchtower. Justice Lord Batman's voice cut through the silence, "These restraints are equipped with mercury switches. Any motion will be detected."
